My review is not for all postal workers, but for the woman working on Saturday, Feb 11, 2023 at the Fairmount office. When I came in at 8:15 there were no customers nor were there any workers behind the glass. I put my package inside the glass and waited for a few moments before I knocked on the window. I then knocked again. With 30 seconds to a minute between each I kept knocking, but there was no response. One man came in to deposit his mail and another customer came in to send a package. She had to fill out forms. I kept trying knocking. I then knocked on the door where they give you big packages. I really thought someone must be far in the back and so I slowly increased the loudness with which I was knocking until finally I banged intentionally loudly on the door. Mind you, this is a good 10 minutes I've been waiting. I have knocked at least 12-15 times now. Then I hear someone yelling are you're crazy knocking and a woman comes out yelling, she will not let me explain that I had been waiting for nearly 10 minutes. She says she has to go to the bathroom. Now did she leave a note that said, I will be back in a few minutes? No. She continues yelling and won't let me talk and then tells me that she will not wait on me. Updated, Feb 7th, 2025: It's almost comical, but the exact same thing happened today. I waited for 10 minutes -- and I know it was 10 minutes because I was watching my watch. First, I knocked on the glass several times. Then I knocked on the door, once, twice. Finally, I kicked the door, again thinking, maybe no one can hear us? Again, she came out yelling, who kicked on the door. Then she refused to serve me. The first time I filed a complaint with the USPS, but I ended up not following up with it thinking, oh, maybe she had a bad day and I don't want to get this person fired (I know that may seem comical). But you can bet I'm going to go through with it this time.

Got there at 10:30 on a Saturday to return something and it was closed (not a holiday). Multiple people walked up to the door with packages only to realize it was closed and they had come all this way for nothing. I was confused because their hours said 8am - 2pm.

I've been here twice and both were just terrible. The first time very busy long line, nothing you can do really. Second time I was grateful that the line wasn't long but the agent next to agent 21 had a way of ruining it for me. While I was waiting for my clerk, she started screaming from the other side and telling me to wait til they call my name. I said I'm not harming anyone I'm just standing here. She continued yelling and came outside of her glass, and continued. I later said I have nothing to do with her and continued waiting for my agent. She then kept talking to other customers about me saying "with that nasty attitude she will hope her package gets to where it's going, whatever it is" the customers sympathized with her oh it just be so hard to be working here. That is correct, it must be hard and she shouldn't take it out on customers. She then refused to give me her employee id when I finally said I will submit a complaint which I did. She also helped people after me and was super nice to them. Lady, whoever you are, who do you think you are. It's extremely hard for me to get to the post office. I had to walk 30 minutes to get to that destination and just to be yelled at for standing? What? You gotta be kidding me. I hope the authorities look into this.

Hours & a person taking their jolly time as if it's not 9:10 while a lone of people are waiting. Miserable people.

The BEST service! These guys are professional as well as pleasant regardless of the long line while asking questions.

Yes, the lines are definitely long, not because its the city, because its chronically understaffed. Speaking of staff, it seems who they have working there are textbook definition of resigned. The lines can be long at certain times of day which I just accept now, but that particular employee always says a package cannot be sent out if more than a day from the date mentioned on the shipping label. The issue is if you sell on eBay, Poshmark, Mercari, and other sites, the shipping labels are often created for you when someone purchases an item, so you have minimal control over what date shows up on the label - you are allowed several days to ship out the item per policy on those sites. I have sent out 1,000+ packages over the past few years via several different post offices in NJ and now here in Philly and NEVER heard this until I arrived at this particular USPS. The other post offices in the area have never mentioned this policy either. Also saw this employee yelling at a lady who was visiting from Europe since she was looking at the gift card display which was placed past the "wait here" line - the lady apologized, mentioning she was not from the states and didn't realize the rules. This employee then went on to sarcastically and patronizingly ask her "what, you don't know what a gift card is? You don't have those in your country?" The look on that poor lady's face - all she wanted to do was mail something out. Anyway, awful experience here unfortunately. The one at 720 Arch St has been much more pleasant and is open slightly later too! The one in the subway station by city hall is rarely open on time based on their stated business hours and often closed early so it's hit or miss.

They sit around chatting, talking personal calls and acting like basic customer service is some outrageous inconvenience. Turning away paying customers seems to be their favorite hobby. Honestly, it's impressive how consistently useless they manage to be. It's no wonder people want to sell off the postal service. This is what happens when you put a bunch of lazy, unqualified people in positions they have no business holding. These employees shouldn't just lose their jobs, they DESERVE to. They're leeching off taxpayers while putting in less effort than a broken vending machine. No one's going to feel bad when they finally get shown the door. The sooner this place is gutted and taken over by people who actually understand what "work" means, the better. These slackers can go back to doing what they do best, standing around, wasting time and hoping nobody notices. Spoiler Alert: we noticed!!

A friend of mine mailed me a package from this location but lost her receipt, and with it, the tracking number. It should have been delivered to me weeks ago, but we had no way of knowing what happened to it. So I gave them a call (from Boston) and explained the situation. Bonnie Brown, the supervisor, was extremely helpful and even cut short her lunch break to deal with my problem. She even waited on hold while I talked to my friend on the other line to obtain information (time the package was mailed, last 4 digits of her card, etc). Once she realized that the package still hadn't left a USPS shipping center, she even encouraged us to file a complaint with the customer's affairs department. Thank goodness she was on duty!! I'm taking away a star because I wouldn't be writing this review if it wasn't for my misplaced package in the first place!
