Yes, the lines are definitely long, not because its the city, because its chronically understaffed. Speaking of staff, it seems who they have working there are textbook definition of resigned. Honestly I have had several terrible experiences at this post office (mostly with one specific window clerk who I have now witnessed behaving rudely to several other unsuspecting customers as well) but it is the closest one to my workplace so I just brave it. The lines can be long at certain times of day which I just accept now, but that particular employee always says a package cannot be sent out if more than a day from the date mentioned on the shipping label. The issue is if you sell on eBay, Poshmark, Mercari, and other sites, the shipping labels are often created for you when someone purchases an item, so you have minimal control over what date shows up on the label - you are allowed several days to ship out the item per policy on those sites. I have sent out 1,000+ packages over the past few years via several different post offices in NJ and now here in Philly and NEVER heard this until I arrived at this particular USPS. The other post offices in the area have never mentioned this policy either. Also saw this employee yelling at a lady who was visiting from Europe since she was looking at the gift card display which was placed past the "wait here" line - the lady apologized, mentioning she was not from the states and didn't realize the rules. This employee then went on to sarcastically and patronizingly ask her "what, you don't know what a gift card is? You don't have those in your country?" The look on that poor lady's face - all she wanted to do was mail something out. Anyway, awful experience here unfortunately. The one at 720 Arch St has been much more pleasant and is open slightly later too! The one in the subway station by city hall is rarely open on time based on their stated business hours and often closed early so it's hit or miss. read more

This is one of the worst Post Offices in the city. They can never seem to find my packages and the lines could go all the way to the door. Sometimes they have only 1 person working at the counter. Oh, and they close the location for lunch. This is the first time I've seen a Post Office closing its front doors for their workers to go on break. They even messed up my Post Office Box sign-up process. Just horrible. I spent over $200 on ride shares just going back and forth between Post Offices because the processing center sends my packages to the other side of town and then the tracking updates to: available for pick. I go there and there is no package. Then that location tells me to go back to the one that I've opened my box at, and here we go. Back and forth... it got to the put I almost had an angry and frustrating month of dealing with this Post Office and now I rather not have any Post Office Box until I get my house all renovated. Just horrible. If I could have given them half a star, I would. But I'm forced to give a star. read more

The wild goose chase you get sent on if you DARE to not be home the ONE time they try to deliver a piece of mail that requires a signature. Deliver a piece of mail that doesn't require a signature? NO PROBLEM! They'll happily toss it on your stoop to be stolen the second they walk away. I understand this specific location is not responsible for this particular issue I am having, however, this location is insufferable. Every post office I have visited in Philadelphia possesses a differing degree of reluctant ambivalence toward helping anyone from the enormous line but this location takes the cruelty to a whole other level. It's honestly sad. I am simply trying to locate a piece of mail and after waiting for 30 minutes, I was told to go to 3000 Chestnut. I go to 3000 Chestnut and after waiting in line for 40 minutes, I was told to go to a third location. Not once did anybody: look at my ID, look up my address, use the barcode, serial number, QR code OR tracking number on the slip that was left in my mailbox, the phone number leads to nowhere, the online re-delivery service is not available at my address, and when I look up the tracking number for the parcel all it says is "Philadelphia, PA". I feel like it isn't unfair of me to suggest that this is absolutely absurd but I'll let you decide. read more

I respect snail mail. I love it, appreciate it, and support it 100% as if it were my best friend. However, the staff at this post office take the concept of slow to a whole other level. Imagine yourself waiting in a line with 10 people ahead of you and 10 more after you... Only one counter is open, even though there are two postal workers. You observe one postal worker slowly scanning a package, while the other walks slowly back and forth pretending to be looking at packages... and you wonder to yourself: "Can these postal workers be any slower?" I just waited about 5 minutes What makes it bad is the environment: Yes, slow, personality-free workers, no magazines or stuff to peruse while we wait, and PUT ON SOME MUSIC. 05/03/2017 update: 6 people in line moved in all of about 4 minutes. The worst service. A bunch of my letters got mailed back to my own address. I went to USPS to inquire why. The women at the counter was rude, condescending, and almost made me explode on her. One star is honestly way too much for this place. I absolutely loathe this post office. The customer service is nonexistent. The girl by the name of A. Blake is rude beyond belief. She can't even fake a smile. Even when there is a line out the door, they'll take their good damn time talking to each other or twiddling their thumbs. There is no reason for anyone behind that desk to have the attitude that they have. You have a government job and it cannot be that hard and stressful. Get off your high horse and at least fake a smile. Very rude service from clerk 18! Came to mail an item that came with a prepaid shipping label and asked the clerk if I could borrow tape to tape my box. She was very rude, told me I should have already had my box "packaged and ready to go"and that I couldn't use their tape. She said I would either have to purchase tape from them or get it from somewhere else. Luckily, right across the street was the UPS store where the workers there not only let me borrow their packaging tape for FREE but also taped my box for me! That's what customer service is about ! There is a line whenever I am there- but there are two ladies and an indian guy who are very nice. Head to the Wanamaker station!! Like pretty much every post office these days....Wanamaker is extremely understaffed and there is always a line. I believe the main photo is extremely accurate. The line moves, but expect to wait at least 20 minutes. There aren't any kiosks here, I honestly suggest going up to 31st and Chestnut where they have a little more staff and the mailing kiosk (seriously if you are paying with a credit card don't stand in line for simple shipping or stamps!) read more

I was hesitant about mailing something from this particular post office because of the awful Yelp reviews...but then again, that's the case for pretty much every other location in the city. I only came here because it's the closest one to where I work. To my surprise, I actually had a positive experience at this USPS. Granted, I did show up two minutes before they opened. Despite only having one person working at the counter and two people in front of me, the wait time was negligible because I was busy getting my package together anyway. The older gentleman working at the counter was nice and efficient. Even though he wasn't particularly friendly, he was very patient and didn't talk to me like I was a child, which unfortunately, is all I can really ask for when it comes to post offices in Philadelphia. The only minor complaint I have is that some of their shipping supplies in the corner weren't fully stocked when I went in. read more

writing a yelp review about a post office is akin to calling the DMV to complain about their general lack of efficiency. the staff here are despondent, there's almost always a 15-20 minute line, and the general mood of the place is one of suffocating gloominess. my rating is based on one experience I had several months ago where I went to remove my wallet and in doing so, flung 4 or 5 stray wasabi peas that had fallen to the bottom of my purse (saving them for later) out onto the counter. the lady who was assisting me picked one up, examined it and asked "what is this?" to which I replied "a wasabi pea". she started cracking up, which in turn started me laughing, and then the people waiting on line smirked. the entire mood of the room shifted. it was a nice, memorable human experience and I will always remember it. but i will avoid this place like the plague cause it truly sucks. read more

If by chance you have a couple hours to kill and are looking to have an experience which will make you question your very existence and push you to an almost murderous rage over total incompetency to do one's job then you are in luck with this particular location of the US post office. Honestly, if this place is indicative of how the US Postal Service is running things, things must be pretty dire indeed. I honestly did spend close to two hours here in line with a dozen other disgruntled customers (not so patiently) waiting to send holiday packages and buy stamps. When you finally make it to the front of the line don't expect any apologies for the wait, or even so much as a hello. Rude doesn't even begin to describe the people working here. Even though I was using flat rate shipping boxes, she just decided not to give me that price and said it was because I had filled something out wrong..I didn't even bother asking for clarification; I just went ahead and forked over my $50 bucks while silently vowing to order everything directly from Amazon next year. Bottom Line: Thank to this US Post Office Location I will never send another package or letter again! After reading couple of reviews I took courage to express my experience at this post office. I used to go to this location frequently for mailing & stuff between 97 & 2005. The staff during that time were extremely professional, courteous and friendly. I never saw any of them being rude or unpleasant to customers. But later I noticed lot of changes in staffing and almost all of them left this location and in replacement mostly angry and rude staff were filled. I had very bad experience with one of staff at this location few years ago...I think her name starts with "J" probably many customer know who I am talking about.... I called UP customer service and reported on the phone but I don't think anything was done. I agree that most of the staff here are just angry, rude, and simply don't care. This is a perfect example of how a postoffice service can be so scary that you don't want to go there. I wish they clean out this location and bring the old team back.. read more

The person at the counter (clerk 10) typed the wong zip code for my (correctly labeled) package. Instead of going to Providence RI (02906), the package went to Charlottesville, VA (22906). Where it sat for over a week until I went hunting for it. After both Center City Post offices refused to do anything about it, promising they would (call me back but never doing so) I called myself to Charlottesville to find it. It took three days to find, but eventually it made its way to Providence RI - where they scanned the same stupid incorrect bar code and rather than deliver it to the address on the package, sent it back to Charlottesville, VA. It left July 10, and hasn't arrived by August 9, after at least 5 online complaints, and 4 calls by me to other cities. The only response to the 5 online complaints is 2 emails updating me to where the package is roaming around the country. No wonder the post office is going broke. Maybe someone should try paying attention and read the label? read more

Pathetic service, worse than ever. They record a business as closed when it isn't, so they don't have to get out of the truck when it's raining. They lost 2 priority tracking shipments and tell you sorry, it can't be located. They say they delivered $150. package when you have security video that proves that NO USPS deliveries were made that day. Probably because it was raining or the carrier was tired. Management and the Postmaster was notified....the reply..."sorry, can't find it" USE UPS, FEDEX or carrier pigeon.....you'll have more luck! read more

Been to a ton of post offices and never thought I would ever want to write a review. I have never seen people treated with so much disdain as the staff at this site treat people. There were two employees at the front counter today and they both were talking negatively about the people they were servicing or the people who had just left their counter. The woman who was at the front kept shouting that they were closing in 15 minutes, 10 minutes, 5 minutes and then finally asked her co worker to lock the gate. It was weird to hear her shouting the time frame as to which they were going to close at the people in line. Would they have turned people away if they were already in line? I bet money this post office would. They laughed at people, scoffed at them and were making fun of a person who was sending an item internationally. Extremely unhelpful and seemed to gain pleasure at being surly towards the customers they were "helping." Please stay away from this post office if you can, don't let it ruin your day. They could bring anybody down. Its sad. read more

as far as post offices nearby go, this one isn't so bad. i honestly didn't even know it was there until a friend pointed it out to me, and i walk past it all the time. i think most people go to the branch on sansom street a few blocks away, which is a bit jammed, so maybe that explains why this one is OK. read more
