I have gone to this PO Office 3 times this week well within their posted hours (once Monday and twice today). It was not open any of those times though there were people outside who wanted service. None was forthcoming. A woman was there who responded to a knock at about 4 and said she had not had lunch and was closing until 5. I think this is shocking. Arrived 10 minutes early (as per the websites instruction) for my passport application appointment with all of my required documentation. The woman at the counter asked if I had my birth certificate, I did not as the application paperwork said that I could use my expired passport instead. I had called several times in advance of the appointment to make sure that I didn't need my birth certificate but no one answered the phone. She then informed me that she was only shown how to process it with a birth certificate so even though the paperwork specifies that I can use my expired passport she doesn't know how to do it. Wasted a PTO day from work, brought the required documentation, and was refused service because the staff member wasn't shown how to do the job she was there to do that day. read more

I have never found this post office to be open, even during the hours posted on their door or online. It appears to have closed during Covid and nobody bothered saying anything or put up a sign to notify potential customers. I've tried to go multiple times and called them. The worst. Randomly closes during the day - or for an entire day - or for a "lunch brake" at 4:30pm. This seems like a joke. Irony: there are tiny handwritten signs taped to the front counters that warn you to stay back. You can't read them unless you are right on top of them. Advice: put your handwritten commands back where everyone is standing (and losing their mind.) It's time to erase the old good reviews from the Prince lady era. I came in on a weekday at 3:30 PM. No one in line. Gave them my small package. Paid them the money. Told them I didn't need a receipt. Worker gently reminded me the receipt had the tracker info on it and suggested I hold on to it. I took the receipt. I was done and out of there in about 6 minutes flat. Done and done. read more

Probably the worst post office location in the country, at least 50% of the time when I have gone there they are closed during posted open hours. Sometimes staff is inside but has locked the door and yelled at me that they don't want to serve me or anyone else because they feel "unsafe", sometimes at 3 PM on a Saturday beautiful sunny day. When I do actually do business there, staff is often surly and curt and dismissive of any question requiring any consideration or thought. I have also been yelled at for asking where to leave a package when they just point "over there.". A constant source of disappointment for the community, I always try to go anywhere else to avoid wasting my time, and feeling chastised! Please put these employees out of their misery, firing them would be merciful it seems. read more

Would give 0 stars if I could. Please take my warning and go to ANY other USPS. Everyone quit that worked here and they only have 1 employee at any given time. No way this is normal. I wish this post office was my primary location (which is the crappy Dickenson station). Every time I've gone in here the two ladies working the counter are the best. They are very patient, attentive and friendly. When you're at the front of the line, you have their attention. In an impatient city, you get anxious waiting for someone to figure out what the hell they are doing but you suddenly calm down when it's you're turn and need the help. Both the ladies who work here have always shown me top notch service. They should be training other postal employees how to provide a friendly efficient experience. Their service makes me want to use USPS instead of UPS or Fedex. read more

I can't believe I'm giving a 5-star review to a Post Office! It's just that I can't think of anything that would make this place better... maybe cocktails? :) The most important thing that makes this office stand out from the rest is their uber-friendly customer service. It almost seems like these ladies enjoy their job! One lady, for sure, enjoys Prince, as evidenced by her Prince jewelry, photos, and tissue box! I am always greeted with a smile, which is a lot for Postal employees to offer. The cynic in me wanted to complain about the way the Prince lady's counter is overflowing with family photos and random memorabilia, but screw it. Whatever helps her do her job is okay with me. Plus, it breaks up the notoriously drab ambiance of this otherwise typically decorated Post Office. Hooray for 4th Street! Let's be honest--this post office, and nearly every post office this day and age--is hit or miss. Naturally the building has nothing to offer, with double semi-automatic doors (WHY??), oppressive fluorescent lighting, and an inconveniently placed self-serve station. Service, too, is largely dependent on the clerk--most are above average, but a few are both inefficient AND stoic (please, retail workers, choose one or the other). On the upside, however, are the turnaround time of parcels sent from here, the good selection of stamps, and, above all, the seven o'clock closing time (which can induce maddening frustration when they lock the doors at 6:55!!) It's difficult to settle on a rating here, but since the closing of 30th Street Station I think Penn's Landing takes the cake for the best post office in Philadelphia. read more

Just was reprimanded by an employee for not following the directions to stand in the aisle until called despite the fact that I was the only customer in the store who needed service. I had approached from the other side of the rope and waited politely in front for her attention (she was on her smart phone). This is the creme de la creme of post offices. Their customer service not only outshines any other post office, but also goes above and beyond your typical retail experience (which isn't necessarily saying much in Philly, I know). The clerks are friendly, polite, and extremely good at what they do. They genuinely seem to like their jobs and treat their customers accordingly. It probably helps that they're a retail branch and don't have to deal with the hassles of package pickups but the most important thing is that they're real people. Like any good neighborhood businesspeople, they know their regulars and their regulars miss them when they're out sick or on vacation. It's never any fun to wait in line at the post office (I can never figure out why the P.O. installed all those credit card readers at the counter but you can't swipe on them) but at least you don't mind it as much here. (Plus there's always a little dish of candy if you need a little sugar hit.) read more

For some reason I didn't know this post office existed until about 6 months ago. Since then, I've been mailing all my stuff from here. I used to go to the 9th & Market location, which is an absolute nightmare every time. I wish my undelivered mail went here to be picked up, instead of the 9th & Market post office, as standing in line there is hell, and visiting this location is an absolute pleasure. The Prince lady (she even has a Prince tattoo!) helped me figure out how to label & ship my package today, and I wish I'd had more reason to spend time in there, as it was by far the most friendly and cheerful part of my day. Thanks, 4th street post office. Maybe if more post offices were like you, I wouldn't think of USPS employees as grumpy, misanthropic slackers. read more

Is is your basic, clerks-are-indifferent-at-best postal location, although better than some. Often understaffed. Lines bad but not terrible (for the post office). Do not go on Saturday when there is a skeleton crew working and line moves slowly. read more

I'm not sure if she's the only person who works here, but every time I've been in it's the same woman with the Prince tattoo. She's totally rad. It's easy to say what makes this post office so awesome. People in line here don't grumble and huff and sigh. The service is not necessarily fast but very certainly efficient and FRIENDLY. The interior is "modern" compared to certain other post offices (*cough* dickinson *cough*.) Maybe it helps that I also really totally love Prince? Whatever it is, when I have packages to mail, this is my number one choice despite having the 30th Street office on my way to and from work every day. read more

I've never experienced post office service like this, so after I left, I texted my sister-in-law to ask if postal workers actually being friendly is a Philly thing. It's not. Prepare to wait in a line. I think the lines here are mostly due to the cutbacks with the Postal Service in general but there is usually only one person working at the counter. Once you finally get service it is usually very friendly but this post office needs to figure out a way to expedite serving each customer. There are few things more frustrating in lfe than waiting in lne for a half and hour while you watch each customer contemplate which type of postage stamp they want (do I want the pixar ones or the ones with disney characters? who cares!). In general, its fine and the people working there are friendly and nice. I just think that the post office is shooting themselves in the foot...of course people are going to stop using your service if it takes 30 minutes to mail a letter. read more

First I can't believe this PO has as high a rating as it does...I work in the area and I can't tell you how many times I've walked by at 10 and there was a line out side...I always tell them that it's not 10...it's 10ish. I also never put my mail in the box outside because I don't believe they check it every day...having put mail in there and seeing how long it takes to get where it's sent. As you can imagine because of the location it gets crowded and it seems more often then not there's one person in the front and one in the back eating a sandwich. If I go in and see a line of more then 2 and one person at the counter...I just leave. read more

The smiling sweetheart at the counter really cheered me up - I was mailing an important package that's been a real bear to put together and wasn't in a good mood. When I arrived, there was a long line... but then I noticed a very cute baby in front of me, and his mom was dancing with him to Tony! Toni! Toné!'s "Feels Good". The counter people are friends with the locals, and I couldn't believe the amount of good feeling in this place. No room for attitude or angry stuff, like you see anywhere else. And yep, when I got to the counter, dead tired and ready to get on with my business, somehow, the Prince lady really cheered me up with her super energetic heart and smile! read more

Karen and Renee are the best you could ask for! I own a small online business, so I'm in this branch almost every day. Karen and Renee are ALWAYS polite, helpful and sweet mannered- even when the impatient customers in line are not. I've seen people be extremely rude to them, because there was a bit of a line, but they are always very professional and nice. The post office is under-staffed but that is not their fault. These ladies do everything they can to move the line as quickly as possible and to make sure ever customers needs are met. I know that I would loose my temper with some of these rude customers, but I have never seen either of these ladies loose their cool. They are definitely under appreciated and deserve to be recognized for their hard work. I would have never thought I'd say this about a post office, but I've been going there almost everyday for the past 4 years- I love my post office! read more

Where is the selection for zero stars. If this location has a 4-star rating it's for the postal workers who used to be there (they truly were a wonderful crew). The employees who work there now are horrendous to say the least. For many people, that would be a really good job. Better pay, benefits and pension than many people have. This bunch should be a little more grateful or quit and let someone more deserving have the position. I need to get a new passport and I'm afraid to go back in that den of evil! read more
