I've been using this post office for the past three years now, and I'd say that my experience has remained consistent since the first day I entered. I'd only recommend coming here earlier in the morning or around 2:30-3:00pm. If you show up around lunch time, you're guaranteed to get stuck in a ridiculously long line that will likely extend out the door. As far as the employees, they've always been incredibly friendly and helpful when I have questions. The biggest drawback about this location is that it attracts a ton of people in University City, but isn't large enough to accommodate all the people that come by. I will say, based on the types of questions and concerns people come in with, the employees really do deserve a round of applause because they handle the strangest, most unusual, situations with a lot of professionalism and respect. And for what it's worth, I've never had a package or letter go missing when I've mailed from this location. read more

For my one and only attempted interaction with this branch, they have a letter on the door saying they can't accept packages today. Apparently their door (not the front door) is broken which has crippled them for doing any sort of business. The Wanamaker branch had a line snaking out the door and I had assumed this would be a good alternative. I've come here multiple times and it is always quite packed, which is definitely more of an issue now. Even to drop off a package, I've had to wait at least 10 minutes. The bright part about this office though is that the employees as so friendly and helpful, I love interacting with them. However, if you're in a rush or don't need that much assistance, might be a better idea to find another post office. read more

Avoid at all costs! Go there only if you HAVE to.. which unfortunately it's one of the only locations in Ucity area. You can head to 54th and Florence which has more workers.. but more west into West Philly, OR venture to 30th and Chestnut which is the nicer one. Why is it so bad? 1) Small. Tiny, small, cramped space for usually 10+ people waiting to drop off some mail / packages in this tiny.. 100 sqft location? Maybe less than 100 I'm not sure 2) They have 3 windows, but I have only EVER seen 2 employees working at a time, but usually 1.. so yes you guessed it, 3) EXTREMELY SLOW SERVICE Expect to wait a minimum of FIFTEEN minutes ( I timed it at 17 minutes today) just to drop off a package or even mail a letter, or buy stamps. It took me 17 minutes to drop off something , when I had everything prepared ( addresses written, return label.. etc etc) The 1 star they get was for the lady that assisted me, she was nice, friendly and provided great service although very many unhappy people in line. I can't say the same for her co-worker there though.. very unenthusiastic , negative and unhappy. read more

As everyone else has said, this is a pretty terrible post office. I live across the street, so there's no reason for me to go to the 30th St Station one. If you live halfway between the two, I haven't seen the other one, but I bet it's better than this tiny location. Oftentimes there's a line of angry customers that wraps around, almost to the door. When there aren't as many people (or even if there are), the employees take the time to sort out packages and envelopes in the back. Occasionally the staff is nice, but they could be more competent. To be fair, it's not completely their fault. I find the customers to be a HUGE source of the problem: some like to share their packages' life stories with the post office workers, ask the same questions over and over that the workers begrudgingly have to answer without losing their temper, haven't even prepared their packages, don't know where their wallets are, or are super indecisive regarding their stamps. Unless you're a collector, I believe a stamp is just a stamp. I'm here to share a secret that I've learned over the past few years: come between 10 and 11:45 AM. I've tried this tip several times now, and there's usually only 1 or 2 people in front of me instead of 5 or 8. Now everyone can know and spread themselves out accordingly, especially you students who just wanted to wait until after class instead of waking up 15 minutes earlier! read more

Some of the postal workers there are very nice, but most are extremely rude. They don't want to take even a second of their "precious" time to help you at all, when it's their JOB. I have packages that are supposed to be delivered to this facility a lot, and because this office is so understaffed, they often aren't available to receive them. So, they end up being held at another extremely inconvenient location very far away from where I live, where there is NO PARKING around the building. If you have multiple packages, it's not like you could walk to this location and carry them all, nor could you take them on the bus. I paid good money to have my OO Bix in U-City, not somewhere else I did not choose. The University city post office is near to where I live, and I thought it would be a good place to have a PO Box, since packages are stolen at my complex all the time. There is in fact some parking to be found there unlike the location where they often end up holding my packages. But, they also often scan items in, only to lose them later. When you have multiple packages that are too big for your PO Box, they only put in one yellow slip for them all. Don't tell me this is usps policy, because I have had PO Boxes elsewhere that gave you a yellow slip for each and every package. So it's clearly NOT standard policy. It's all due to being understaffed and pure laziness on their part. The only reason why I gave it two stars instead of one, was they accept Amazon, FedEx, UPS, etc. shipments here. That is convenient, but they don't often get to you because of this office's incompetency. read more

I've been to a lot of post offices because I used to do a fair amount of eBay shipping. So, I in my old stomping grounds of Boston and Glastonbury, CT I knew the places which were good and bad. This post office goes under the bad category. As Kimberly P. said, the line often wraps outside the door because they are understaffed. That's actually untrue. They're aren't understaffed. There's normally one person at a window and two others milling around making jokes or talking about someones grandchild and distracting the one teller that is actually attempting to re-enact something the rest of us call working. For a post office that resides so close to UPENN and Wharton, you'd think that some of the smarts would have rubbed off. Their flow of operations is terrible. Today their was an issue with a money order. So, three ladies sat around trying to read someones faded license... the line gradually grew longer until it was out the door. Hot Tip: If you hear someone in front of you say "passport application," "money order," or "international shipping," turn around and walk out the door unless you have 10-20 minutes to wait for that one person's needs. The only saving grace for this place is that they have a free tape dispenser for you to finish up wrapping your packages. Most post offices require you to buy tape from their merchandise rack at an extra $3.99. If you get them at a sleepy time of day, things will be just fine. Otherwise, while waiting in line just remind yourself of this one truth: at least it's not a French post office. read more

The one superlative thing about this particular post office: it boasts the most unhelpful postal service workers on the face of the planet. They have on multiple occasions claimed that you can't insure first class mail, yet the USPS website clearly states otherwise. Not only that, they don't bother letting you know when mailing priority mail with a flat-rate envelope or box will save you a decent chunk of change (hint: look it up online ahead of time). They offer no useful information whatsoever unless you specifically ask for it. When you do ask for it, it is often a surly, bare-minimum, quite-possibly-incorrect response. With the exception of one kindly older man that I sometimes encounter working here, the employees are sullen and unfriendly jerks. Furthermore, they frequently only have one person manning the counter during busy times when the line is to the door, and that one person usually moves at the pace of a slow loris. In case you were wondering what sort of pace might that be, please refer back to the name of the animal. Don't even think about coming here at all on a Monday or during lunch any day of the week. In fact, it's best avoided at all costs. Go to the 30th street post office if you can, but even that one isn't much better. read more

Hours says they close at 5 online. I got there at 4:30. A sign on the door says they were closing early at 4:45. But yet the door was locked at 4:30. Very hard to plan a trip if hours are inconsistent. Missed being able to send a gift for my aunt and uncle because of this. read more

I only go to this office for the convenience of it. If I had any other options nearby I would avoid it like the plague. If you do insist on going here, expect extremely long lines, staff that act annoyed or rude, and a complete lack of any customer amenities at all. This has got to be one of the worst post offices in the country. It took me 37 minutes to ship one book media mail, with only 4 people in front of me. It's one thing to take that long when you have a ridiculous line in front of you, but seriously it's that bad. Don't say you weren't warned. You would think during the busier lunch hours you will have more than one person working the three windows but no, that would make too much sense. there was an incorrect label placed on my package last time i came into this post office due to a misunderstanding and was told to tell the next worker to place the new label on top of the old one. yesterday when i came in i noticed that the front desk woman was talking on the phone loudly the whole time she was attending to customers. she would call the next person up before the former even had a chance to leave the window. i kindly let her know that an incorrect label was on the package and that she could put the new label on top, just so i could make her life a little easier and wouldn't confuse her from my end. instead she tells the person on the phone that she "doesn't know why customers try to teach her how to do her job," and that she's "been working there for years." i do not know this woman or her life story and nor do i care - i was simply telling her exactly what the first postal worker told me to do. i did not get her name but she had her hair pulled back and had a dark complexion. read more

I go to this Post Office because it's so close to my job. Yesterday when i went the line was long and that immediately put me in a bad mood because I knew I was going to spend a huge chunk of my lunch break there---I did. But I was very impressed when i got there there was a woman who walked me through everything. I was expecting her to be as annoyed as I was but she was surprisingly helpful. I was sending something certified mail and instead of just taking my envelope and doing what I was attempting to do it she gave me options and gave me prices for each. I'm ignorant when it comes to anything relating to the Post Office so the help was much appreciated. This is literally the worst post office I have been to in my life. Often times the line wraps around to the door because they always only have one person behind the window. They also run out of rolls of stamps. How does a post office run out of stamps? Ugh. I came in here expecting the absolute worst given the other reviews, but in my experience it really wasn't THAT bad. I waited 5 minutes and had only 3 people in front of me. My clerk was pleasant and everything went just fine. I will say that this place is claustrophobic. There was a longer line on my way out and people filling out forms in the back were kinda in the way. I could see how easily a line could extend out the door. I guess I lucked out. read more

There have been times I've waited in line longer than 30 minutes. There have been times I've had some of the rudest, most infuriating service of my life. There have been times I've heard homeless people shouting explicit language at postal workers. There have been times that the entire facility reeked of urine. There have been many times a postal employee used a glue stick to ensure old stamps don't fall off for me. There have been times I've been met with a smile and friendly demeanor during the aforementioned chaos. In short, service here is variable. Frustrating events occur on both ends of the desk. This is the worst post office I've had to deal with in my entire life. Many times there is only one person working in the front and you are stuck waiting in line for 20-40 min. The laidies that work there take their time with everything and move around like a grandma. One in particular will repeat everything you say back to you while small talking with customers when theres a long line of people waiting. She asks unnecessary questions which makes the wait longer than it has to be. She will joke around with coworkers in the back while she wastes everyones time. They could care less about your schedule. I recently moved to University City and unfortumately it's the only post office in the area. read more

What I love about folks who work with the postal service is that many of them are working with outdated equipment and do not have proper staffing at their location, but manage to be cool regardless. this post office is always extremely busy. even if you think you are clever by showing up at 3pm on a thursday you will be waiting for an hour plus. the sad part is, there are two windows but i've only ever seen one of them used, and i've been to this post office at least a dozen times now. and while poor lonely postal worker is dealing with the endless line you can clearly see plenty of other postal workers behind the glass yet not attending window number two. my suggestion is to take a half day off work to use this post office, so that you have enough time to complete your transaction. or, go to 30th street. if you do use this post office make sure you have everything correct before getting in line. nothing worse than getting to the front of the line only to be told you filled out the wrong customs form, at which point you can a) fill it out the new form on the spot and piss everyone off behind you, or b) go to the back of the line and start over. if you just need stamps, go to CVS. good luck! read more

This is the longest I have ever had to wait in line for at a post office. Just to reiterate what everyone else has said, this is the most inefficient post office in the world (I wish I was exaggerating...I am not) . They are too damn lazy to deliver packages. They recently tried to deliver a package to a UPenn office on a Saturday. It was closed. (no suprise, so is this P.O.) They were too lazy to try to deliver it on the following weekday, expecting me to hike a mile round trip (in the rain) to pick it up myself. Instead of doing their damn job. Can't do the redelivery option online, so I tried to call. They NEVER EVER answer the phone. Ever. Absolutely the worst customer service on the planet. This is not my first go-round with their abysmally horrid customer service. (They have previously marked packages "delivered" on a Saturday - when the office was closed - see above - packages which I subsequently never receive.)
