I went to the DMV office at 2904 South 70th Street to get a REAL ID same day issue. I arrived on a Wednesday afternoon at 1:55 p;m. and was finished by 2:45 There were no lines out the door. There was a person checking documents and answering questions. I was given a number and some forms to complete. When my number was called, I went to an area where I was able to sit down, get my documents processed and pay the fees. Then I was given a new ID card which is good for 5 years. Note that the REAL ID does not say REAL ID on it, it's the same as my old ID with a gold star on the upper right side of the card. read more

Based on previous reviews, I expected the process to take much longer but I was pleasantly surprised! I arrived around 1 PM and was finished in under an hour and a half. The staff were sweeties and gave clear, step-by-step instructions throughout. At no point was I confused or left wondering what to do. I went in to transfer my license from another state, and they required my birth certificate, Social Security card, out-of-state license, and two pieces of mail with my current address. I paid around $70, which included the Real ID. The entire experience was smooth, efficient, and exceeded my expectations! The only thing I could critique is the line system at times, it stretched beyond the designated area, causing people to unintentionally block the entrance. A bit more structure there would help, but overall, it was a great visit. read more

ATTENTION PLEASE: I have lived in over 10% of the states in the country. NEVER, have I experienced a more pleasant, curteous, professional, effective, and efficient government center for ANY service. The DMV located at 2904 S. 70th Street in Philadelphia is a dream. It's clean with updated decor, great lighting, and fresh white paint. Why every city, county, state, and federal center doesn't replicate the gem developed here is mind-boggling. Every official, from the Mayor to City Counsel members should come here and observe. You will definitely learn from your experience! EVERY staff member is helpful, and will raise your spirits. They understand that they provide a service, and whomever manages the center has an exceptional HR staff, and trained people with character and personality traits, rarely seen. This may be a great sociological experiment. Regardless of what has occurred in your life prior to entering this DMV location, the feeling is nearly akin to walking into a movie theater, and having an escape. What exists at South 70th Street is an alternate reality. Anthony was the first gracious and knowledgeable employee, greeting me at the door and making sure all the necessary documentation was in hand, and provided me the small printout with my call number, when it was my turn to go to one of the many stations. Kelley was the first person to process my information. She was sweet, genial, empathetic, and authentic. Cierra was the second delight. She is considerate, and patient, thereafter taking my photo for my license. Carmen is another notable exception. As I sat down, after entering, Carmen was the first to say "hi, how are you?", asked what my number is to ensure I was sitting in the correct area, and greeted me as if she was my friendly neighbor who knew me for years. Bottomline anything less than a 10/10 rating is inexcusable. This is center is worth the drive. The time you save, and the people you interact with, are ABSOLUTELY worth the extra mileage. Let us begin by the initial getting in line, the security guard allowed people to jump the line and go ahead of the people who had been standing there. The female worker who checks the documents lacks professionalism. She didn't seem to have factual knowledge of the required paperwork. Could not give me a valid reason but was extremely rude. The place was dirty, chaotic and no one seemed to even slightly be concerned or helpful of your issues. I thought that is what customer service suppose to entail. I had to leave there, drive to King of Prussia where I presented the same exact paperwork. Not one issue. Save your time going here. They will ruin your day before even exiting the office and without resolution. It is the worst. read more

Is it still a line around the building? Weather too hot to stand in the sun for hours

This location is very well managed and that's the secret to it's success. All of the locations have long lines these days with some more than others but if they're managed well that problem can be solved. I arrived on Tuesday, about 8:30 am, about a 1/2 hour before it was opening time and the crowd was wrapped around the building. What's great here is that they let in really large groups of people, instead of 3 or 4 people at a time. So, if it is one of those busy days, you really don't have to wait long outside and you're brought inside where it is fully airconditioned. Every 45 minutes or so they let in huge groups of people and can move the lines fast this way. They have a main agent stationed at the front who will go over all your information and let you know what you need. I thought this was just great because if gave you time to go get what you need and come back that same day. Once this is done, you're cleared to go and all the rest is just a formality. I needed to go get more information and while I was gone, I'm told, they brought cases of bottled water and took them outside to those who were still standing in line. When I came back around 2:00 pm there were only about 2 dozen standing outside. I must have interacted with about a dozen agents including Security Guards and they were all polite and respectful. Special Shout Out to "Michelle G" who handled my Driver's License ID with such kindness, grace and empathy. Finally, I went back to have my photo taken again for my Real ID License and talked to the "photographer," who was an absolute delight! I promised to bring party goodies years from now when I have to come back to renew again! This was a Terrific experience, and I'm truly grateful to the cab driver and my neighbor, who suggested we go there! It was a blessing to find this place! read more

This is the best DMV I've ever been to. I arrived 40 minutes before they opened so I could be one of the first people in (I was fifth) but honestly after seeing how smoothly they work here, I don't think it was even necessary. They opened exactly at 8:30 and when I walked in I was shocked to see MANY employees seated and ready to assist. I'm talking like 12 people, at least. I came to renew my license and upgrade to a Real ID, and thankfully all of the paperwork I had was sufficient (I've heard horror stories from others). I was in and out of there in less than 20 minutes. The facility itself is very large with tons of seating and they also have public restrooms available. Their parking lot is huge, too. Truly, I have no complaints. Shake off your dread and just hit this place up. You'll be ok! read more

Such an efficient location! It was a bit of a drive to get to, but the only center in the area offering same-day RealIDs. I checked in, showed my documents, and was given 2 forms to fill out. I wasn't able to make an appointment for it online but it actually didn't matter to since this DMV is hands down amazing. staff to service is all phenomenal and as odd as it is, the staff really made the DMV a fun, enjoyable location. I am disabled; Saudel Avril & AL-B were very pleasant, kind & accommodating at this location along with the staff the lines moved smoothly, fast, calm & without disagreements. Line waite approximately 10-15 minutes. Once inside it is a very cool & cold facility chairs are 3-4 feet apart waite time once inside is approximately 10 minutes according to your specific need. One thing I did notice; language barriers cause a major hold up in the facility once a consumer is at the counter! read more

This place is awesome! I decided to get the REAL ID. Expecting the worst, I got there early before opening on a Saturday morning, hoping that my day wouldn't get sucked up by the process. I arrived at 8:15am and there was already a line waiting outside. They opened promptly at 8:30am. By the time, I entered letting them know I wanted my REAL ID, they handed me 2 forms to fill out and said "your # has already been called". I went directly to the lady who was going to process my paperwork and she was so nice. She gave me time to fill out the paperwork. I gave her my ID/forms. And within 5-10min, i had my REAL ID. I went to the Arch St PennDOT on Tuesday at 1 pm. When I walked in, I was given a ticket that said 63 people were ahead of me. I waited an hour and 15 minutes because my drivers license was expired and there is no way to get it done online. I ended up leaving because they had only gotten through about 30 people and I realized I wouldn't be able to get the license and pick up my daughter from her school. So, I left feeling frustrated...BUT, then my friend told me to go to 70th street PennDOT. On Weds, I went to this location at 3:30 pm and there were *3* people ahead of me. I was seen within 5 minutes, the building was new/clean, and there were plenty of seats. I got my renewed license and was out of there so quickly. I will never go to Arch St. PennDOT again! Also, my friend told me that he went to the 70th Street location to get his name and gender changed on his license and he also had a fast and easy experience.
