This post office seems to be understaffed, which is a recurring theme for USPS locations. Aside from that, does the job if you need in-person services! There's greeting cards if you really need them, shipping supplies for last-minute packing, and it's clean at this location. There are two entrances, one from the street, the other via the building lobby. This office isn't open weekends, but thankfully there are other USPS locations nearby. Haven't had any long waits here, and the staff have been nice to me. I don't have complicated needs, and I don't think I'm complicated to deal with, so your mileage may vary. read more

Not enough people working there to begin with. It was closed today with no sign on door or notice on line. If it was the snow - I guess neither rain no snow nor gloom of night will keep them from their appointed rounds no longer is valid! They should at least let people know that it's closed before hauling all their packages there in the freezing cold. Unacceptable. read more

The 615 Chestnut Street postal service is a total disaster, and every terrible review is spot on. The female employees here couldn't care less about doing their jobs. They sit around chatting, talking personal calls and acting like basic customer service is some outrageous inconvenience. Turning away paying customers seems to be their favorite hobby. Honestly, it's impressive how consistently useless they manage to be. It's no wonder people want to sell off the postal service. This is what happens when you put a bunch of lazy, unqualified people in positions they have no business holding. These employees shouldn't just lose their jobs, they DESERVE to. They're leeching off taxpayers while putting in less effort than a broken vending machine. No one's going to feel bad when they finally get shown the door. The sooner this place is gutted and taken over by people who actually understand what "work" means, the better. Slow? Sure, but sometimes that can't be helped. But the woman at the desk!! I asked if they had a certain stamp design, and she looked at me like she'd never heard of it before. So i asked again, pointing to the picture. Then I asked if they had the 1-ounce matching stamps. "YOU ALREADY ASKED ME THREE TIMES AND I. SAID. NO." Sheesh, no need for the attitude. I'm an artist and ship out packages frequently and always aiming for the best rates. In the past other USPS offices have given me more premium shipping rates implying they are the best options leaving me broke and in the dark, so, naturally, the shipping process is always anxiety inducing for me. My experience at this location on the 600 block of chestnut was fast, transparent and incredibly pleasant. I even received a quote for an international package with extreme ease. Pamela was an absolute pleasure to work with and I will definitely be back at this location in the near future!!!! read more

I have low expectations for the user experience at the USPS, but this location manages to go below and beyond. Do NOT expect to get in after 5:15pm even though they are required to stay open until 5:30pm. If you do manage to get in, people will scream at you. I kind of hate everyone who works there, and I've had many interactions. The only reason I don't give this 1 star is that the line does move faster than other USPS locations I've been to. So I guess you can get screamed at a little faster, which is nice. read more

I popped into this location around 11:30 today after a doctor's appointment two blocks down. I had to mail two letters. I was fifth or sixth in line (and the line grew behind me) and there was only one clerk working. No big deal, I always expect a line. When I finally got up to the desk, another clerk has simultaneously walked into one of the other clerk stations. I say hello to the clerk and she directs me to her freshly arrived co-worker and says (without a hello back) "she will help you" and points to her. Before I can even nod and say okay to her, she is already looking past me and says, "next in line." Okay, fine. No big deal. So I walk over to the newly arrived clerk and say hello. She is looking at something on her monitor and she looks up at me and just stares at me. So I kind of just stare blankly at her, a bit confused on my end. Her eyes open wider and her head shakes a bit side-to-side as if to say 'what?' to me. Mind you, she still hasn't even said hello yet. I hold up the letters in my hand and ask, "Hi, um... can I mail these?" SHE TAKES HER EARPODS OUT, sighs, shakes her head side to side, and she speaks!! "I JUST walked in here." At this point all of the blood in my face has drained, I look back over at the other clerk, and I am about to say 'she just directed me over to you' because I wasn't trying to rush anyone or make things difficult for anyone. Ultimately I decided against saying anything about the other clerk sending me over to her because I thought it would come off like I am pointing fingers. I've just waited in line for 5-10 minutes like everyone else, I was not doing anything out of the ordinary that would warrant a negative reaction. So I stand there in silence while she gets her station ready. At this point, the person in line behind me has already been helped by the clerk who had been there the whole time. She weighs each letter, sticks the sticker on each, and one at a time chucks the letters hard into the outgoing bin. I worked in the customer service industry for a decade. I get it, believe me I do. I have been called every name in the book, cursed at, threatened, homophobic slurs, ALL of it. BELIEVE ME, I REALLY get how frustrating it can be working with the public. But WOWWWWWW! It was truly unnecessary and kind of cruel... but I still do not even feel angry about the situation. Just downright pity, they are obviously disgruntled and frustrated and hopefully someone in management can help the staff out at this location because something is not right. It was only 11:30... she still has the whole day ahead of her and she is already upset. I feel terrible that I was an accidental part of making her feel bad. I wish it wasn't so awkward to ask strangers if they need a hug because I really think she needed it. read more

So, where do I begin? Pamela and Yvette (there is one young gentleman) that are fantastic! I can not tell you how professional & helpful they are. My daughter was in NC & now she is in Germany and even extra large boxes were/are no problem at all for them to ship. I will say there is one woman who is sooo nasty she goes by the name of Pam I think well she is shorter and just plain mean. I could tell you stories on how unpleasant she is but I won't. So, use this post office, love them except one person that just makes it harder for the others to have a good reputation. read more

"I have to say I'm really pleased with the government," said no one ever. Well, the same holds true for the government's postal brainchild, the USPS, which boasts of the worst customer service in the history of mankind. I am in the business of customer service, so I know the limitations, challenges, and attitudes to expect. I was very patient as I waited days and days for an important, Priority delivery to arrive to its destination. I tried to Overnight the letter, but apparently it couldn't be overnighted from Philadelphia to West Virginia, which is astounding considering you can drive to this place in four hours. An employee at this location on Chestnut St suggested the Priority option, guaranteeing delivery 2 days later. 2 days came and went; then three, and then four. I emailed the customer service hub, left messages for the local and national call centers, and called the local post office. If anyone answered at all, it was only to say that the tracking number was incorrect (I was reading it directly from the receipt I was provided). This was the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak, because this is not the first time I paid good money to have a letter lost or delayed. The USPS sent me a survey, which was entertaining to fill out. They asked me what I would do if I encountered a problem in the future. Use the online service? Use the chat room? Use the hotline? No, I wrote...Use FedEx. And that's my advice to all of you: use FedEx. I've never had a problem with delivery, the tracking numbers always work, and the employees, with only a few exceptions, are very helpful. read more

Usually I have low expectations based on past experiences at usps offices, but all the staff here is friendly and helpful. Pamela is great and answers my questions with a smile. I have a PO box here. Letters and packages are routinely delayed or lost. It took me three weeks to get a package that had two day shipping. I looked up the tracking information and saw that it sat in this post office for two weeks before they placed it in my PO box. read more

I have been to countless Post Offices in my time. I normally go to the locations around my home but this time I went to one up town. Best decision I made. Had to go out of my comfort zone and needed different forms, I'm sure I looked like a lost child. One word, Pamela. She is a blessing to have at the front desk. Do not use this location for a PO BOX! You will always wait at least an additional day for shipments. Your mail must go through 900 Market first and it will 1) be held there or 2) they will accidentally throw the mail on the wrong truck, or 3) try to deliver on Saturday (when this place is closed), etc. Just open a PO BOX at another location i.e. 900 Market which is only 3 blocks away. read more

My experience was strikingly similar to what's recounted by the other (eventual) one-star reviewer. Initially, I was happy to find a more "local" feeling post office (compared to the 9th and Market location) in an area where I sometimes do business. I tried to keep the surly staff and long lines in perspective. However, when I sent a certified letter to Princeton NJ, it arrived three weeks later! Further, the letter proved mysteriously un-trackable, according to multiple tiers of post-office employees. At that point, I gave up on this branch, and now I only use the USPS when it's unavoidable. Reading the other one-star review, I wonder if my certified letter sat in the back of this post office for far too long, perhaps due to various inefficiencies or free-floating hostilities (or both). I agree with the other 1-star reviewer that this kind of occurrence is one of the many reasons the USPS is on the way out. Stepford-style surveys only serve to highlight the gap between what the USPS wishes were the case or wants to pretend, and the sad reality of their non-service, inefficiency, and non-competence. read more
