Terrible post office! Surly workers; long lines that don't move. It's been this way for YEARS. You think they would fix. Grrrr.

Can you give 0 stars? I would. There is no follow up with this group. They are rude. There was an error with my package and they refused to help me. All that happened was the manger complained that he was suppose to be on a break. When I offered to wait until he is off his break, he refused. My goal was to figure out where my package was and they did not help. They just told me that I was wrong and they can't do anything. They have not called people back when requested. I will not use this post office ever. So sad because it is a beautiful building. Too bad it is employed by people who don't want to do their job. read more

Earlier this week, I put a piece of mail in the outdoor mailbox of the Oak Park post office. It was one of those RSVPs to a wedding that is addressed to the bride. My own address was printed in the return address section (where it normally goes). Lo and behold, this same piece of mail showed up in my own mailbox today! There was nothing stamped on it saying "return to sender," so I was confused. I called the post office to find out how this would have happened. Here's the answer I received from the gentleman who picked up the phone: "I don't know unless I see the piece of mail." What?! Does it matter what mail it is or where it's addressed? While I was still in the middle of speaking, the call dropped. Not sure if he hung up on me or if I had a bad connection. Needless to say, I was left feeling a bit frustrated and not satisfied at all by the "customer service." There was not even a "sorry that happened." Plus, this piece of mail was supposed to be received by the bride by tomorrow! read more

The building is nice, yes, but this post office is understaffed, and no matter what time of day I come there is always a line at least 15 minutes long (if not longer). The self serve machine is kind of confusing I think. The hours are better than other locations though, and unfortunately understaffing is not unique to this location. Sadly it's still better than any FedEx or UPS I've every experienced and will still be my first choice for shipping anything. read more

This is the Post Office from hell! Is it friendly and courteous service you seek? Listen, it's never, ever happened to me here, so you'd best move along. Last Saturday I spent 50 minutes waiting in line to renew my expired passport. During that time period, two folks were successfully processed and then the guy in front of me steps up to the woman handling applicants. After maybe 10 minutes, the gal sitting in the neighboring service window rudely yells at the rest of us in line stating that renewals must be handled by mail. Almost suggesting we were idiots... Perhaps posting signage detailing this policy would be appropriate? No, it's more fun to abuse the public whenever possible, don't you think? The four of us remaining in line were not amused. Really, what does it say when your expectations aren't very high in the first place... and you are still disappointed? read more

The facility itself is okay, but the delivery service provided has gone downhill over the years. In particular, they seem unable to comply with hold mail requests, and frequently misdirect mail. read more

Rude employees that contradict themselves and each other. They tell you you can pick up a package, you get there and they say they don't have it, then they magically find it, but they want you to bring mail to verify address(ID isn't enough), and they close in half an hour. I can only surmise they are ego-driven morons looking to make things more difficult than it has to be. Do yourself a favor and just call the usps customer service, deal with the annoying automation system, and let them deal with the post office. Unbelievable incompetence. read more

Wow...this is the classic example of government workers who do not give a crap about anything. The customer service is atrocious, the employees do almost nothing, and the customer does not matter at all. It surprises me that a community like Oak Park would have such a terrible post office. The best way to approach going into this place is to laugh at it and make fun of it. You'll stand there in line and think you're watching a Saturday Night Live skit--it's that bad. I've had many examples of poor service with these people, but the most recent one was when I went on vacation and put a hold on my mail. Four days after the mail hold was supposed to end, I finally spoke to the postman...he said, "oh yeah, I was supposed to bring that on Monday (it was Thursday). No apology, no nothing. So I walk into this branch office...the woman retrieves my mail after I explain my situation. Again, no apology, no nothing. No "is there anything else I can help you with?" Its 7:52 PM and I still have not received mail today. This is a common occurrence, especially after a holiday. Many days we just dont get any delivery. Well, today I am waiting on a small package that I really need for tomorrow, so I called the post office. Didn't expect them to be open, but "Joe" answered and listened to my complaint. He said many carriers were still out, and I might still get mail today. He was totally uninterested in finding out where the carrier was or when it might be delivered. I asked if I might have his name so I could call tomorrow and make a complaint, in case the mail didn't come. He wouldn't give his name. Hah! What a load of crap! I hope the USPS does go Bankrupt and all those lousy employees loose their jobs and theirs pensions. read more

I was recently at the postoffice to send 6 boxes of books to India by M-Bag which I do often so am familiar with the procedure. The first clerk, Eddie, was totally unaware of the requirements for this type of mailing and insisted on making the procedure unnecessarily cumbersome. I was leaving in disgust when another clerk, Orlando, asked me to come over to his desk and handled the entire mailing without any hassle. Eddie was not only incompetent but had an "attitude". I am planning to send a letter of complaint to the Postmaster and hope that this will lead to a reprimand for Eddie and kudos for Orlando who went out of his way to help a customer. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. DO NOT ship ANYTHING from this post office for any reason. I have shipped 2 packages from this post office in the last month (the first intentionally, the second not by choice as I was returning an item and the vendor required USPS). Both of these packages are gone forever. Several phone calls have left me with no resolution, no answers, and no compensation for my losses. The customer service is also terrible. If you come in with your package un-taped, they will look at you like you're crazy, require you to purchase a roll of tape, and make you go to the back of the line to tape up your package. Again, do not use this post office for any reason. Totally unreliable, unfriendly, and incompetent. read more

An absolutely terrible place which will be demolished for unnecessary condos in Oak Park and be a huge improvement. I live in a single family home that was once a two-flat and legally have two addresses. Unfortunately, only one address is on my drivers license and the package I needed to retrieve had the other address. After explaining this to the incredibly rude manager he wouldn't release the package. I went online to try and have the package re-delivered, signing the necessary documentation and they haven't even tried despite my daily reschedules the past two weeks. I know there are rules to follow but what are the chances that their are two people with the same name living next to one another, robbing each other of their packages? The manager was a horrible human being that hates the human race and enjoys the menial power he has over other humans. If you want to see what is wrong with the US these days, take a good look at the post office in Oak Park. read more

They only have one self service station for big packages and to purchase stamps. If they're going the self service route then they should invest in more than one machine. They should also have a separate stamp machine too. I waited 30 minutes to buy stamps. read more

Sadly, this post office is always understaffed. I only come here when I have to due to the awful service. Today I called ahead to ensure they were taking passport applications. They confirmed they'd be open at 10. Been standing in line since it opened (for over an hour) & they've only completed one family's application so far. read more

The building is gorgeous, but in the time it takes you to find a parking space, get into the building, and wait in the always-long line, you could just drive down to the P.O. at Harlem and Garfield. Free parking and shorter lines! read more

This is the most unprofessional staff I have ever encountered, I have had trouble with my Mail before, but lately it's been consistent, with mail not delivered, or give too the wrong address and even the wrong street. I have wittiness the unprofessionalism of the workers on the phone talking and not paying attention to who mail is going too the right address. I tried calling several times too report, my Mail left on my porch in the rain instead of my mail box which, is clearly noticeable. Every time I've called a Joe answer, if that's his name! He refuse too allow me to speak with the carrier Supervisor! And he just gives me the Run around. I feel that they are covering for one another, Email seems too be a lost cause, I'm not sure what too do next! read more

I sympathize with all the reviewers about this place. I am currently working with them to determine what happened to my package that was supposedly delivered on 8/29 at 11:49AM when the mailperson ALWAYS delivers our mail well after 2PM! I went to pick up an internationally delivered package and provided a slip that had been placed in my mailbox. I had just moved to my new address, so the address on my ID was different, but my name is the same. The clerk said I needed to prove that I could receive mail at the new address. How did she think I got the slip of paper telling me that I have a package??? I had to go get another piece of mail and wait in line for twenty minutes again just to get my package. I've never been asked for another piece of mail again to prove that I "can receive mail," which leads me to believe she was just making my life difficult for her own entertainment. The customer service is terrible here in general, but that was my most irritating experience. read more

This is my go-to post office as I live within walking distance from it. The service is hit or miss and the lines are long. Among the most helpful clerks is Orlando, who is always polite, helpful, and makes sure to explain all the options and how you could save a few (or more) dollars. Thank you, Orlando! Tonight I went to mail a package. It was 6 pm and there was no line at all (hint: Monday evening might be the best way to avoid long lines!). I wanted to mail my package with priority mail and searched for a flat rate box and a label. I didn't find the label and so I asked the clerk, EDDIE. Eddie was rude and outright hostile, not to mention not helpful at all. He yelled at me that they were out of labels and that my box was not properly closed. He literally YELLED at me. He had me redo the box. I hadn't brought any scotch tape with me (I had forgotten) but then I remembered that in the past the post office clerks had taped my priority mail boxes with their own priority mail tape. So I asked if they had any tape. EDDIE YELLED at me again saying that it's been since 2007 that they don't have tape and that if I want tape I should buy the expensive tape they sell. He then thrust under my nose a laminated sheet that supposedly proved that they've stopped dispensing tape to clients. I didn't want to have to come back to the post office again and I didn't feel like arguing, so I bought the tape ($3.79 for a small roll of tape). I didn't want to be yelled at again by him, so I headed to the other clerk, Orlando. Orlando was courteous and informed me of different prices and even went as far as to ask if the content of the package needed to be in a flat rate box because given its weight, I could be saving a few dollars if I didn't mail it in a flat rate box. The fancy building mentioned by several reviewers is a red herring. I would gladly take a shack with decent postal staff over a massive edifice with some of the worst customer service imaginable. I have lived here for several decades and do my best to limit my encounters with the OP post office to perhaps once a year. Recently I placed an online order that I knew was going to be heavy. I followed the package online to make sure I was home when it arrived. As luck would have it, I returned home from picking my daughter up to find the dreaded notice to pick up a package in my mailbox. I went to the post office the next day only to find the situation had deteriorated even further since my last visit 10 months ago. A long line of people, two windows open while other employees wandered aimlessly about, surly behavior to customers, an inability to answer questions coupled with refusal to locate someone who could; you know the drill. I eventually made it to a window and gave the package slip to an employee who neither spoke to me or looked at me. She disappeared into the back of the building for 25 minutes while I cooled my heels, fuming all the while. Finally she returned with my package, informed me that it was heavy and told me to drive my car around the back and someone would bring it to the loading dock. By this time I had been ther over an hour. I figured it would be at least another hour before my package made it to the loading dock. I said no. I told her to give me my package. It probably weighed 40 lbs. I heaved it up on my shoulder and staggered out the door and down the street to my car. I honestly cannot think of one other business where I would have resorted to bodily hauling a package out the door like that. If they cannot do their job in a reasonable amount of time then they either need to be provided with assistants or replaced. read more

I sent an important package via USPS a week and a half ago -- trying to do my part to support them. I paid extra to get a tracking number. Well, they gave me a number. But after 10 days, the package still did not get from Chicago to New York. When I put the number in the tracking system, it tells me to call my local post office. So I called them, and they told me that the package hasn't made it to New York yet. (Thanks for the info.) They said apparently no one scanned it in since it went to Bolingbrook. I asked how I could find it. I was told I couldn't. I asked if the Bolingbrook post office might have more information. I was told they might. I asked for the number of the Bolingbrook post office. I was told to call 411. Thanks a lot. I will never, ever use USPS to send something important again. read more

The woman working with the passports is beyond rude. only to people of her color she is nice and very patient. This post office delivered 4 or 5 packages erroneously to my home. I thought they were due to fraudulent transactions, addressed in my brother's name, so I kept the valuable ones in case the vendors asked for them back. When the post office realized THEIR mistake, they sent me a notice stating that keeping someone else's packages was against the law. That is stating the obvious it seems! When I called the "supervisor" that sent this silly, common-sense letter, she did not have a clue. She was rude, argumentative and interrupted my every sentence. She did not have a bit of common sense. She changed her story several times. She either refused to understand, or did not have the capacity to understand, that it was THEIR/HER fault. If this is the quality of "supervisor" at this facility, I wonder the quality of worker that reports to her! I now know one of the reasons why the USPS was 5.5 Billion in the hole last fiscal year! Do yourself a favor and go to another post office with better quality employees/customer service. You will save yourself a lot of frustration! read more

I've had several really bad experiences here. And it's not me, because I do a lot of mailing; and I come very prepared, with forms filled out, etc. These clerks are actually obstructionist. The give problems, not service. Every other post office I've gone to shines by comparison. If you MUST go there for some reason, they have a self-service machine in the lobby that is infinitely preferable to the horrible staff. read more

I try and try to not leave bad reviews but I am literally FED UP with this post office. I almost always have a good experience here but I am pissed. I just received one amazon order yesterday. I had two different shipments in the same order. The same name and PO box number are on both shipments. On Friday I pick the first shipment up with no problems. Today I get a text from the USPS tracking saying my second shipment is available in my box. I get to the PO around 1130 because the text was sent at 7:50AM and my box is freaking EMPTY. I call the post office to see what's going home once I get a text saying the addressee is UNKNOWN at 12:30Pm for a shipment that should've been in my box at 7:50AM! I call and the guy that answers the phone sounds so uninterested and leaves me one of the longest holds EVER! I ask him if they can locate the package since it's still at their facility he says he doesn't know he has to find the person who listed it as addressee unknown...I'm like how is the addressee unknown when the box number AND name are visible...mind you I received a package yesterday that ONLY contained my last initial so I tell him maybe it has my last initial and not full last name. He says it's going to take some time because that's not the name listed on my box...WHY WAS THIS NEVER AN ISSUE BEFORE TODAY!!!!!!!!! I'm so pissed that if the line wasn't so long when I went up there today I would go back right now! I need to speak to the post master because the customer service over the phone here SUCKS! read more

I have never written a bad review, and I'm a genuine, nice person. I am shocked at the poor level of customer service I received. I went to the post office to inquire about a certified letter that was never delivered to me. According to the tracking number, the letter was marked as undeliverable as addressed although I confirmed with the sender that my address was correct on the letter. When I went to the post office, the representative I spoke with was extremely rude and dismissive even though I was polite. She informed me that the letter was sent back to the sender, but he still hasn't received it more than two weeks later. I followed up again today by phone, and the representative I spoke with was also rude and disconnected the call. I am convinced that the post office carrier didn't attempt to deliver the letter in the first place and now it may have been lost. I understand that sometimes things happen, but there is absolutely no excuse for me to have been treated so poorly. All I wanted to know was where the letter was as it contained some very important documents. Although I live within a couple blocks of this post office, I will no longer patronize this establishment due to how I was treated. read more

I ordered a book I needed for a project I've been on this week. It came while I was out on Tuesday. It was not delivered, so the lettercarrier left a redelivery form. I went online and requested for the package to be redelivered on Thursday. I made sure I was home. No package. So I called the automated system. It said that they had attempted delivery on Tuesday and I could request that the package be redelivered. I requested redelivery for Friday. No package. I went into the post office, and started to explain what happened to the clerk, who interrupted me in midsentence, asking for my ID. I asked him for the courtesy of finishing what I had to say. After I explained what happened, he offered no apology, troubleshooting, or explanation. He simply asked to see my ID and said "I'll see if it's back there." Sure enough, he comes out with my package. I asked if this post office does not honor redelivery requests, and he "Well, I guess they didn't get it." Really? That's it? Thanks, Oak Park Post Office, for your customer care, quality service, and convenience. I'll bypass you next time and choose a for-profit carrier like UPS or FedEx. They're not rude, they're competent, and they actually seem to provide customer service. read more
