Honestly the only problems I have encountered here are with clients that have no idea how to ship items and take 20 minutes of a staff members time as they try to explain basic information. I'm very socially awkward and anxious when I don't know exactly what I'm doing - I'm new to mailing packages I've been here twice so far and I like it here. First time I was buying a label and shipping my item I packaged myself, paid about $15 for a 5lb lamp, it was an efficient transaction. Second time I came to print my own prepaid label , I was very confused but the staff was nice and helpful. Like I said , new to shipping, I didn't realize the label would be printed out on regular paper then placed into a little plastic bag like sticker that holds the paper label & goes onto the package, the staff here handed me one when I was obviously cluelessZ FYI to print your label here, it's $2 for 5 mins on the computer and 15c per print. So whatever you paid for the label add $2.15. read more

I had to ship off a package this morning to my son's college. I ususally go to the UPS Store downtown. But I was crunching for time. Anyway, I drove to the location in Oak Park. The guy behind the counter was in a hurry trying to rush the shipping process. I asked him kindly if I was already in the UPS System since I had shipped out several package at the other location. He stated that I should be in the system. After I gave him my cell number and son's number. He still could not locate my information. Ok. No problem.... Mr. In A Hurry still trying to go too fast that he missed entering my son's Box#. The nerve to act like he had an attitude cause I called him out on it. He preceded to explain the policy of the shipment contract and had me sign it. It was like he was trying to win a marathon. Too much in a hurry and talking too fast is not a way of good service. Just a Hot Mess. It was too early for the foolery. I was very disappointed with the customer service here on this morning. I will just stick to my norm and continue to ship my package out at a the UPS Store downtown. read more

It has been a while but when I went in for notary services on most occasions it was efficient. However, on one occasion the notary took my papers and went in the back and was gone there for a long time before he came back and notarized my documents. He did not state that there were any issues, or any other information needed, or explain any reason for the long delay. So, I was wondering if he was in the back reading my documents which left me feeling unsettled. I am not aware if notaries have to read documents before notarizing them and am thinking that is not the case, since he had not mysteriously gone in the back and taken that long before when notarizing other documents I brought in. I am not aware of another cost-efficient notary service in my area, so had been continuously going to this UPS Store. read more

I had a coupon for a discount on shredding papers. As in most coupons it says something like "participating locations only". They do not participate and charged $8 to shred a 9" pile of paper. I think in my entire life this is the first time that a store refused to honor a coupon. You'd think that as a courtesy they might honor the certificate for $4 ? Nope. read more

I don't normally leave reviews but this place rules. I came to this location to mail a package to a family member and accidentally put the wrong gift in the box, a very embarrassing mistake. I came in two hours later totally flipping out, and the person (and the person who helped me earlier) literally searched the place top to bottom to find it. They even called the pickup guys and everything. Best part, they FOUND IT! I was able to avoid this awkward holiday mistake. Absolutely stunned at how great the service is here and 10/10 recommend. Fortunately, I had alternate verification of my name which showed the same info on my government issued DL. The accusation of me throwing the packaging on the streets of Oak Park is completely false. It was left at your location. TY for furthering escalating this occurrence at your location, just like in the same manner as the associate who "helped" me today. If I have the door tag, a proper government issued DL, and my name matches on the package -- shouldn't I retrieve my package without any issue?! Last week I visited this UPS Location for the second time. The first time I visited was during January. I spoke to the staff regarding a package being sent for pick up. I had no problems with that package, my friend was able to pick it up for me with a valid ID, while I was in Brasil. My second visit was for a notary and for sending a three business day item. I had a great experience! I was nervous while signing my paper work and the staff was very patient with me. They were also kind when the system corrected an address and I had to contact the receiver to verify the corrected address. They even helped customers behind me, so that the they wouldn't be waiting while I verified the address. Everyone was professional, compassionate and helpful. I'm also uploading an image of the top of my receipt. I'm hoping the young man and other staff that assisted me can receive positive recognition from their superiors. I've had nothing but good experiences here! Quick drop offs, pack and ship, printing paper shredding - staff are always up beat and ready to help. In fact, props to the manager for assembling such a friendly staff. Nice store. Premium location. It gets busy sometimes but almost always under control. Parking is a problem, but it's in downtown Oak Park so that's to be expected. Paper shredding is shockingly expensive, but I guess that's the going rate everywhere. Expensive place to complete your shipments. And I'm not talking about UPS rates. They charged $5 for a box that needed to fit a shoe box. Then charged another $3 for printing 2 B/W pages. Christy is a superstar! Anyway, Christy (sorry Christy if I'm spelling your name wrong) packaged the massager really well and shipped it off for my parents. So right about now you're probably wondering why something as mundane as that earns 5 stars from me. Well, it's because Christy's story doesn't end there. My parents never heard a peep from Brookstone and gave them a shout only to find out that they received the massager on the 16th (not sure why that's important) and dirty and thus wouldn't be honoring the extended protection I bought, grrrrrr. On a whim my mom went back to the UPS store to talk to Christy, which is where all of the stars are well earned... Christy not only remembered my mom, she remembered the package she helped them ship. My guess is it's because my mom probably told them the entire history of the massager - how they got it, why they got it, when they got it, why they were returning it, etc. Yep, that's my mom, she can get really chatty. But I digress.... Christy, remembered that the massager wasn't dirty when they brought it in except maybe for a little cat hair and that it was well packaged (double bagged) so it was very unlikely it got dirty during transit. She also pulled up the tracking history for my parents and found out that package was received 6 whole days before being logged in. She printed out all of the documentation they needed to call Brookstone back and giving them a serious talkin' to. Christy also provided my parents with a letter to Brookstone about the condition of the back massager. For those of us that are very computer savvy this may seem like no big deal, but for my parents who are old(er) and not that computer savvy this was huge. Lake St UPS in Oak Park The manager staff if great, but today, very very different. Use this store often. Manager is good.....but today, family member went to track a package, and the younger staff said they could not find the tracking number. That does not make sense. of course, a tracking number is what they do. I went back to the junior staff, and got the same answer....said no, that cant be....you have to have this...and of course they did "here you go" was all i got. no apologies no sorry. I'm usually a USPS guy but, with the slow down in the mail, I figured I'd give UPS a chance to earn some of my business. I show up at the store looking for basic shipping supplies to send two slates of documents--an inch and a half think--overnight. You would have thought that I was speaking Greek the way that the person at the counter responded to this request. First, he offered me a box like you might use if you're going to be moving (for which I would have had to pay). Then, he offered me a flat rate envelope that you might use if you were sending only a few pages of materials. FedEx has supplies where you can send this quantity of materials; so does USPS. I've seen similar materials from UPS, too. Why can't I get it at this location? Who knows. But this is the second time I've experienced incompetence at the Lake street store. read more

I was just in June 16th and had the misfortune of Skylar helping me. He has poor customer service and my 12 year old daughter even commented "why was he so mean?" When we left the store. Every time I come here I have a horrible experience. I wish you all would train your staff in proper customer service. Absolutely deplorable! To add, I actually sent an email to the customer service address and CJ the owner replied never apologized for Skylar's behavior and suggested I go to other UPS locations to do business in the future. As a Oak Park community member and tax payer, that really struck a cord with me. Everyone in customer service should know the basic A.E.R. The UPS drivers who cut through the lobby are the worst always telling people to get out of their way. We've been a customer of this store location for the past two years and can't say enough. Their staff is consistently the friendliest group in town, and not only friendly, but willing to help with anything we need including labeling, carrying, or just offering support. I wish every Oak Park business had such an incredible team. Recently we changed one of our mailing addresses and they not only answered all of our questions on the phone, but when we came in they were ready to give us the new forms and handle everything we needed with a smile. I have used UPS Stores for my business mail/shipping for 10 years. This store is is fantastic. They always say HI, take care of customers as fast as they can and are patient. I go here to get my shipments 3 to 5 times per week and have seen my share of nasty customers. It is sort of like the Post Office, for some reason "mail" brings out the bad side of people. Had 225 pages scanned and somehow, either on my end or their end, the scan was out of order and mixed up in two separate file, and I needed to resolve the issue for my client, which ultimately would be my responsibility if not done correctly regardless of how they were mixed up. So I returned to the store to explain that the scan was out of order and needed to be corrected. As I attempted to carefully explain to the representative who was "assisting me," what I needed, I was met with abrupt interruptions, various accusations such as blaming me for mixing up the pages, not listening to what he was saying, all very loud and humiliating. Ultimately he loudly accused me of not listening to him and shouting he will not help me. He stated he re-sent the files (without re-scanning from the originals I placed in proper order) that he will not speak with me any further and left me standing in the store dumbfounded. I then had to take the original documents to another facility to be scanned with care so that I can deliver them to my client in order. read more

So excited to experience customer service where receptionist display nervousness, yet control, it's humility and being grounded in perfection Professionalism. I visited this establishment for a simple sheet of paper, an application to be precise and the staff member behind the desk went out of here to explain how the P.O.Box service worked by asking, "Do you need to know more about how the address/P.O. Box works" she said. Although appearance remained firm and resolute, she maintained poised and ready to satisfy customer concern, never scared just willing to help. What a great experience to find the face of an organization smiling throughout an indifferent customer. I refuse to go anywhere else for my parcel service. Not to mention the male receptionist while helping those at the desk kept an ever present eye on the build up of customers, and so moved the line along with the greatest respect and firm diligence. COVID posts were properly displayed while social distancing was observed and so fantastic seeing maximum customer capacity in practice posted at the entrance. Refused to let me simply drop a package off. Declared if I couldn't wait "a few minutes" the. I should go some place else. Since I don't want to stand around a tiny enclosed place with a bunch of people breathing on each other, and I spend thousands of dollars on shipping each year and understand how the system works, have prelabeled, prepackaged and ready to go items, understand ups policy on mishandled and lost packages, I cannot and do not want to wait "a few minutes (btw 1 person at the counter, 6 people in line does not equal "a few minutes"), I will go elsewhere and I will ship with another carrier, no problem! The love affair is over... I was so disappointed with the "tone" of the UPS store upon this visit, so much I don't intend to return. I had two packages identical in weight. Each package contained a dog tag like necklace and a tiny figurine approximately 1"x1"x 1/2" wrapped in a bit of tissue paper in a tiny paper gift bag not much bigger than the figurine itself and a one page letter written on regular copier paper. Both packages were in their own small padded envelopes, one was a 5"x7" and the other was just slightly bigger. One of the packages was for my son in the Air Force stationed in Turkey. I've shipped items for my son in the past from this location. The most recent shipping was around Easter, but yet the clerk said that she couldn't find anything for his recent location and that it was a lot of paper work and rather costly' "You'd be better off going to the post office". I thought how odd - but no problem I'll go to the post office down the street. My other package was headed to my daughter in the Army in Washington state. She found that I had shipped there in the past.... and oh.... "that will be $10.47". Now remember, this package is very close to the weight of a letter - the padding was bubble wrap. The necklace was NOT a ball and chain, but a simple dog tag necklace - lightweight. The figurine was not some dense mineral, but a cheap craved resin dust collector - a little mommy gift. Sigh! Thanks but no thanks! I should have turned and walked out the door, but the clerk had taken time to look up past mailings - checking addresses and such and then double checking my daughter's address ... Fine! I left with my package for my son in Turkey and went to the post office right up the street. No waiting. No problem. $2.07! Whoa!!! I asked the clerk at the post office, '... And how much would it cost to ship the same package to Washington state?' "The same price madam! It's military." the clerk said. I was dumbfounded. We're talking a mark-up of 5 times as much. I thought surely, something was wrong at the UPS store. I went back to the UPS store. I spoke with the same clerk and explained that I went to the post office, PER her INSTRUCTIONS! She seemed a bit taken aback by my challenge, (which of course, I wasn't rude or anything). I just wanted an accounting of the price difference. She questioned if the post office put their stamps on the package, (which they did), but this made little difference to me - as the package sent to Washington state via UPS was $10.47 and an identical package sent to Turkey was $2.07. In a bit of a huff she said "... Well that's our mark-up - that's how we make our money!" To which I responded - 'Never again!' Politely, of course, and left the building with Elvis. I'm all for capitalism - but that's some mark-up - add to this the attitude which with she handled shipping something to Turkey and her tone - I can wait in line at the post office and get classic responses like the folks who work at the DMV - however I must admit the folks at the Oak Park Post Office are more pleasant. And I'd be paying a lot less! I had experienced so much better in the past at this particular UPS store. I used to get regular clerks who recognized me and smiled, (I always used to use my own painted strips to cover the edges of the boxes I shipped - call it my mailing signature). I never had a problem until now. Cold - curt, no smiles, poor services and a huge mark-up. I don't mind paying a bit more for extra services, but with the service being nearly non-existent - I can think of other ways to spend $8.40 Anyone for a sundae or malt? :-) read more
