Look, a post office may be a dreaded errand, so when I find a convenient location, with some great architecture, efficient staff and lots of personal charm, I'm in! Each time I've gone, the staff has been courteous and patient with the customers who still utilize walk in services (in other words, we old!) and may take a beat longer to decide on a stamp theme or if they should get that insurance coverage. I always anticipate entering a USPS Office will be a wait. That's just facts. Most of the time, I'm scheduling this errand off "peak hours" and I don't wait long. I haven't experienced staff shortage at this location and service at the window is prompt. Most of the time this location is decorated with festive seasonal attire. During specific holidays, the staff REALLY go all out and it's nice to look at all the decorations while I wait. Prices are what they are, but I still find the system of moving letters and packages across the country and internationally, mind boggling. Grumble all ya like, but .82 to send a 1oz card or letter to Utqiagvik, AK 99723 Angle Inlet, MN 56711, Lubec, ME 04652, Key West, FL 33040, or La Push, WA 98350 is still a deal in my book. Of course, if you were savvy enough to know you weren't going to be teaching yourself new tricks back in 2007 when "Forever Stamps" were first issued (yes, I knew THEN I would still be rockin' it old skool), that .41 per stamp is a down right bargain! I had purchased an item on EBay to use in a project that I was scheduled to install on the following weekend. The seller missed their guaranteed delivery date and the package was scheduled to be delivered on a day when the electric was due to be off the day for for maintenance by So Cal Edison. I thought I would fix this by using my Fedex account Manage Delivery feature to have the package delivered to a local Fedex office. The package arrived in CA from FL on Thursday for its original scheduled delivery on Friday however when Fedex processed the re-delivery request, the delivery date was moved to Monday (too late). I called Fedex and they confirmed that I could not change the delivery address again or pick the package up from the Branford location (where I could see it had arrived on Friday morning from City of Industry). Throwing caution to the wind, I decided to take a 55 mile trip out to see if I could get the item. This location is basically a series of large warehouse buildings where Fedex packages are sorted for local distribution. I checked in at security and gave them my tracking number and they called it through to another department to check the package was there. After confirming this, they asked me to wait in a small office by security and about 15 minutes later, an employee showed up with my Fedex Ground package. Given that I was told that I couldn't collect the package from this location, and their warehouses span about 3 football fields, I was astonished that they were able to find my package and hand it over. I give Fedex 5 stars for going the extra mile so that I was able to get the project completed on schedule on Saturday (no thanks to the clown EBay seller!).
