I've been working on handling my dad's account for quite some time now, and all three of my visits have gone smoothly. Each visit helped me better understand the process, and although the wait can be long for walk-ins, I'm grateful to have been able to get everything taken care of efficiently. When you arrive, security assists you with either the mobile check-in or entering your SSN into their system. After receiving your ticket number, you simply wait to be called. There's also a screen displaying the numbers currently being assisted. Restrooms are conveniently located nearby, and the air conditioning keeps the waiting area comfortable. I've walked in twice - the first wait was about 30 minutes, and the second was 1 hr and 40 mins. The one time I made an appointment, I was shocked when they called my number right on time! :) From my experience, those needing answers to general questions or assistance with small stuff may be helped sooner than visitors requiring account changes. Yesterday, I went to update the bank account number for direct deposit and was told I needed to go back in line since I was a walk-in. Thankfully, I was still helped as soon as a space cleared between appointment times. This was the long wait lol Overall, this is the office I'd return to whenever I need assistance with Social Security matters. Parking is plentiful, and I truly appreciate the staff's willingness to help. They seem to understand that dealing with Social Security can sometimes be stressful, and their professionalism makes the experience so much easier.

We…read moretried to schedule an appointment online at alohaq.honolulu.gov for the Kapalama location, but it was booked through the middle of September. I checked this morning for the Kapolei location and their was a spot that opened up for noon today. It was perfect. He lucked out. We got here around 11:45am and there were people waiting outside on standby. The woman sitting to the right when you walk in checked all the paperwork: social security card, birth certificate and two proofs of principal residence. Then, she had him fill out a permit application and told him to wait for his number to be called. We waited about 15 minutes and they called his number. They gave him an eye test, processed his paperwork and charged us $5 for the card. Then, he had to wait to get his picture taken. We waited another 10 minutes standing in the picture line. He sat in the chair and took his picture. They told him to check his info on the screen to make sure it was correct. Then, they took his fingerprints on the screen. They printed out a temporary paper copy and told him the plastic card will be coming in the mail. We were in and out in half an hour. The workers were on it. They have a small parking area on the side of the building.

Availability: The only thing that sucks about this place is the limited time. For TB it is only Mondays where they give you the test and a follow-up on Wednesdays 2-4 PM. Um..omg, the window of opportunity is soo small. For immunization it is worse. It is from 1-3 PM second and fourth Tuesday of the month. How can anyone get anything done???? However, as a state worker, I can understand as to why this is occurring. It is due to budget cuts...and further budget cuts that may or are occurring for the Department of Health. Environment: Can you spell G-H-E-T-T-O. It isn't very welcoming, however the chairs and some other things were donated by a church. That's nice! People: They are very nice. They invited my staff and I to a coffee hour, in which they displayed numerous local business and farmers' produce. I've visited the Wahiawa Civic Center to obtain a TB shot for work. They offer FREE TB shots and…read morealso immunizations to infants, keiki's and those under 18 years of ago. It's kind of a tricky place to find. Since I'm familiar with Wahiawa it wasn't hard for me, but if you're not familiar with the area it can be confusing since there are no visible signs of arrows of any kind. Parking is available in the lot, but how you enter the lot is tricky. You can enter from California Ave or you can enter from behind Wahiawa General Hospital (can't remember the name of this street) and this is where I ususally enter. There is more than enough parking in the private lot as well as on this street (it's not street parking but it's actual marked stalls) TB tests are administered every Monday between 2PM-4PM. You just bring your ID, fill out the form in front, and wait in line. Usually there is a group waiting right before 2PM but they are pretty quick to get you in and out. The staff is very friendly! The office itself is small. A small desk where they check you in, and a small area where they administer your shot (s). TB readings are done every Wednesday, again from 2PM-4PM. Just bring your ID again, wait in line, they'll peak at your forearm, and give you your card. It's very quick and easy, and best of all, it's FREE! I'm not familiar with the hours for other immunizations but you can view them on the Department of Health's website. Last year I needed a TB test but because of my work schedule I wasn't able to make it Monday OR Wednesday (only crappy thing is the limited hours), so if you're in need of a TB test, Access Medical Clinic does them for $30.

I have only seen one man here, and he always wears his post office shorts. He has legs like pipe cleaners. LOL No matter whether they are busy or not, they always make unrushed time to help you, and you can tell that they genuinely like their jobs. I mentioned to one of the older men, who is always laughing and teasing them, how happy they all were, and he said I should be careful because their smiles probably mean they are plotting against me. The post office is tucked into a plantation village on Kunia Road, just look for the blinking light. Why is this me favorite post office? The absence of a line helps. I could probably drive here in less time that it takes to stand in line at a few of the closer locations. The mix of people is another plus. Because it is all outdoors, and set up on a lanai, the customers have a tendency to stay long enough to talk story. Nice to have a slow moment during a day. It is also the Postal clerk, who is as friendly as her clientele, and is happy to chat when she has a moment, but is all business and efficiency when she needs to get through the occasional line. So the next time you are grumbling about the lines at the post office in Wahiawa or Mililani, take a detour down Kunia Road. Take in the view of the mountain, breathe in the fresh air, and slow your pace in a more pleasant way.
