Excellent staff at the Kapolei Social Security office! Every representative I've interacted with has been courteous, patient, and genuinely helpful. I've been working on handling my dad's account for quite some time now, and all three of my visits have gone smoothly. Each visit helped me better understand the process, and although the wait can be long for walk-ins, I'm grateful to have been able to get everything taken care of efficiently. When you arrive, security assists you with either the mobile check-in or entering your SSN into their system. After receiving your ticket number, you simply wait to be called. There's also a screen displaying the numbers currently being assisted. Restrooms are conveniently located nearby, and the air conditioning keeps the waiting area comfortable. I've walked in twice - the first wait was about 30 minutes, and the second was 1 hr and 40 mins. The one time I made an appointment, I was shocked when they called my number right on time! :) From my experience, those needing answers to general questions or assistance with small stuff may be helped sooner than visitors requiring account changes. Yesterday, I went to update the bank account number for direct deposit and was told I needed to go back in line since I was a walk-in. Thankfully, I was still helped as soon as a space cleared between appointment times. This was the long wait lol Overall, this is the office I'd return to whenever I need assistance with Social Security matters. Parking is plentiful, and I truly appreciate the staff's willingness to help. Applying for benefits in Kapolei, Oahu, Hawaii... Compared with the Federal Building in Downtown Honolulu, this location of Social Security Administration is really great! First off, the parking is totally free! Yay! Secondly, the waiting room was spacious, had many chairs, was air-conditioned, well-lit, and had a convenient restroom! There also was a wall of informational brochures! Thank you! Best of all, the service was efficient, polite, and professional! The process was quite simple: Enter your name and Social Security Number into the kiosk; get a number; wait for your number to be called; and go to the window assigned to you. I dreaded needing to go into the Social Security office. My elderly mother finished her phone interview for my father's Social Security survivor benefits after he passed away. I still had to go into the Social Security office to drop off a CERTIFIED copy of my parent's marriage certificate, not a photocopy. We were told no appointment was needed for this, and that I could just walk in without my elderly mother, since she has a hard time getting around physically. I read nothing but horror stories from other reviewers about their experience with the downtown Honolulu location, and how it is not disability-friendly. I drove by the Honolulu office on a weekend, where I had a hard time finding the building, because it is not visible from Ala Moana Blvd. I googled where am I going to park and how much is it going to cost. I googled the Kapolei location to see what others thought. Coming from Manoa, I decided to bite the bullet, and drive all the way across the island to Kapolei since that location had better reviews. I must admit, although the drive getting there was long, the service was great, for a federal office. Once inside, I got my ticket and I waited about maybe 5-10 minutes, before I was called to a window. The nice gentleman at window 4 or 5 (I forget which window now) assisted me. He took a copy of my parent's marriage certificate and (thankfully) gave me back my one and only original certified copy. He also asked me if I brought my father's death certificate because they needed proof that he passed away, which fortunately I brought with me as well (the SSA interviewer didn't tell me to bring my dad's death certificate, just the marriage certificate). About 5 minutes later, I was done. Kudos to the Kapolei office. If you live closer to the downtown Honolulu office and have to go into an SSA office, do yourself a favor and skip it, if you can. *REPLACEMENT CARD DUE TO NAME CHANGE (marriage)* This was the quickest and easiest appt of my life lol! The website has everything you need to know as far as what to bring to your appt and you're able to fill out the appropriate form ahead of time as well. Making an appt was easy too, I was able to get one for the following week from the date of booking. Both the parking lot (free parking) and inside (with plentiful seats) were quite empty but appts are highly recommended -- for reference, my appt was in the afternoon; I heard it can get really busy even before opening! I got a text within the hr of my scheduled time and ended up arriving to the office early. After checking in at the kiosk, I was in and out within FOUR minutes (see pic for proof lol)! After spending 3 days and multiple people trying to sign on to the SSA website, to get a copy of my 1099SM to file my taxes. I finally just drove to the Social Security Administration Office in Kapolei. A very helpful security officer helped my sign in on their computerized machine and I received a ticket with a number and was told to have a set and wait for my number to be called. I only waited about ten minutes, when I was called to window 4, where a very gracious young lady immediately printed out the 1099SM form I needed to file my taxes! She was so understanding and helpful. I should have done this in the first place. Why did they stop mailing our 1099 out? read more

Visited Friday, 8th April 2022! I was astonished at how quick & easy the process was! I needed a replacement copy of a social security card for my minor cousin. She is 13 and living with me; I am her guardian.This is important to note for minors who are under 13 years old. Typically, you need to show proof of parental relationship or guardianship to apply for a minors replacement social security card. However, since she is 13 years old, she had to sign the application form herself and present a valid state-issued ID. This was all explained to me by the helpful customer service representative I spoke with over the phone a week prior to my appointment. I was just calling for information because I assumed the application would have to be mailed. *If mailing you are required to submit original copies of all documents, for example passport or other identification, and parental/guardianship forms. However, the customer service representative was able to find me an appointment for the following week. It seems the appointments are based on the number of parking availability (I assume this because the customer service representative stated that, "it looks like we have 2 parking open for a specific date/time"). Although, I had a conflict for the date/time he noted, I took it because I was unsure when the next availability would be. Day of appointment, I get my cousin from school and when we arrived in the parking lot, it was a bit empty with a few spots taken. **I did not have to take her with me to the appointment but I felt that helped to make the process easier. We were a bit early so we waited in the car. The customer service representative had informed me not to come inside more than 10 minutes prior to the scheduled appointment time. While waiting, we saw a few people leave and a few more arrive. However, it was not overly busy. Near our appointment time, we walked in. There was a security guard who directed us to a kiosk that assigned us a number once we were done answering the on-screen questions. The seating area is still had seats blocked off to allow for physical social distancing. And, masks are required to be worn by all. The seats face a big screen that displays the assigned numbers and what number customer service desk to go to once called. When our number was called, we presented the pre-filled application form (which can be found on the social security website or outside the door prior to entering) and passport to the customer service representative who was assigned to us. We got a friendly young, former marine, from New York who was helping us. She processed the application and gave us a confirmation form, which served as proof of service. She informed use that the card would come in the mail and if not, follow the instructions on the form. Overall, once inside, the entire process took approximately 20 minutes. I thought it was going to be more difficult and a longer process but I was pleasantly surprised. I am truly happy this process went well and encourage anyone needing a replacement card to try getting an appointment instead of having to mail your important documents. read more

But the process honestly was pretty easy! I filled out my information online and then it asked me to go to any of the Social Security offices and bring in the required documents. I went in on Monday afternoon since I was in the Kapolei area. There was ample parking available and when I arrived, there wasn't too much people. You check in at the kiosk and then you wait for your number to be called. Less than 15 min and I was in and out the door. The guy who assisted me was super nice and friendly as well! Now I just have to wait for my card to come in the mail. Recommend coming to the Kapolei location as they made the process super efficient. Aside from the parking lot (free parking) being full shortly after opening, the Kapolei SSA office had a pretty good system in place and were turning over customers relatively quickly. You check in at a kiosk upon arrival and wait for your # to be called. They had multiple service windows open to accommodate a nearly full waiting room at the time. We waited about an hour to be called as a walk in (during a busy time), which didn't seem too bad. Once our number was called it took about 10 mins at the window. Bathrooms are available in the waiting room also. read more

I came to this location twice. The first time was a few years ago after I got married and needed an updated social security card for my drivers license. If I can recall, all I needed was my marriage certificate and to fill out the application. Second visit was this morning, a replacement social security card for my 6 year old. The lady did not accept his original birth certificate....instead, she asked for a medical card with his birth date or original medical records (I used his shot records directly from his Doctors). I got there 15mins prior to opening (8:15), got through a long line of probably 30 people in front, finally got my ticket number at 8:46, and seen by 8:55. Fastest I have been served between my two visits. I was in and out of there by 9:02am, OH YEAH! No food and drinks. Kind of a go figure moment, but I had bought breakfast and coffee prior thinking I could munch on it while I wait..I stuffed it down prior to entering the building so that I didn't have to trash it. They have applications to fill out inside if you forgot or don't have access to a printer. read more

I was in the area and thought of checking out my ssn benefits. Luckily I was off from work and had some time. I arrived here about 9:35ish and entered a crowded waiting room. The offices don't Open until 08:30. When you arrive, there is a kios, where you sign in, and get an assigned letter/number. There is a security guard there, sitting at the entrance, checking bags, and maintaining order. Lots of chairs to sit on, and facing the wall with the tv monitor. Its best to have your phone with you, to be preoccupiied, while waiting to be called. Expect a long wait. Lots of parking on the Street, but lots of parking in the lot parking also. This place dont provide Child care Services, so if you bring you child, or toddler, be a responsible parent or guardian, and have them preoccupied with something to do. It can be annoying or distracting when the child crys, or makes noises, while others are waiting for their turn. Best yet, have someone watch them, or take to a babysitter. Dont misunderstand me, I Love kids. Anyway, about 1045, I was called and was quickly serviced. The Service representative was quick, courteous and friendly. I was out just like that. read more

The guy wrote & spelled my name incorrectly. I should have checked it before I left- I just figured he had my ID , the paperwork from social security. I figured & assumed that you had to be intelligent with common sense to work there- NOT! I just got approved to be the payee for my paralyzed brother- now I have to go back & wait again to get the letter corrected , otherwise the bank won't accept this incorrect letter. I brought in my marriage certificate and was in and out within five minutes from the appointment time. I highly recommend making an appointment. You can check in through your given link 15 minutes before the appointment, wait till your number is called on the screen, and you'll be seen promptly. When I got here at 9:00am, there was a line of about maybe 15 people in front of me, and when they finally opened at 10am, there must have been about 30 people waiting. They couldn't open on time because they were waiting on security. Once the doors opened, the line is directed to a sign in terminal. The line moved very fast, there are a lot of seats and they have lots of service windows so the wait time was brief. Very organized process for a busy office. I was surprised to be out of there in half in hour or so. Even though the lines may back up all the way to the sidewalk, it moves pretty fast. I think the slow part is having everyone sign into the little computer kiosk. So for the non-tech savy people, that might be a challenge and hence the long wait. Other than that, once you check in to the kiosk, the security guard checks your belongings, and then you're given an application to complete. Make sure you have all the documents you need in order for everything to go smoothly. Also, there is no cost to making any changes to your social security (ex. name). read more

Why Yelping about a Social Security Office? Because it is so much better than then one in Honolulu on Punchbowl. I live in Honolulu and needed to take my mother in law in to start collecting benefits. I didn't have an appointment and I've experienced the long wait times in town. The drive to Kapolei was well worth the drive. The parking lot is adjacent to the building so there is no crossing the street from a multiple story parking structure. You can drop someone off right in front of the door and park a few stalls away. I was pleasantly surprised they had a native Japanese speaker working there. She did not appears Japanese but from what came out I could have sworn I was at a reception desk in Japan. Very helpful. I hope I don't have to visit the Social Security Office anytime again soon, but if I do, I'll skip the town office and come out here. read more

It was raining and part of the crowd gathered had to bare the elements while people took their turn checking in on the lone machine, however once in the wait wasn't long.
