Do not go here for walk-in passports!! I wasted two days and lost yeas off my life attempting to get a passport here. Got a possport in 10 mins at the Raleigh office. (The people who work here will tell you the same). If you choose to go here for walk-ins, against the better judgment of yourself and everyone that has come before you, get there at 12:45 at the latest on Tuesday. You'll wait until 2 to put your name on a list (dont miss when they bring the list out) that will processes you by anywhere from 2:45 to 5:00). They only take 8 people on Tuesday and 4 people on Fridays (get there much earlier on Friday). Or you could just go to Raleigh and not suffer... read more

Do NOT use this post office for passports. The woman who works that department is rude and has zero customer service skills. She treats you like a child and gets frustrated if you ask any questions. When she messes up your passport application and you have to drive back to correct it, she does not apologize and blames you for the mistake because you dared to ask her a question while she was working. Read the reviews here and on Google about this location's passport office. Apparently the Lead Clerk can also process passports and she is actually helpful and doesn't seem to hate her life and the world. But if you get the other agent, be prepared to be stressed out and treated like garbage. More importantly, be prepared for her to screw up your passport application and blame it on you. I would not recommend going here to complete you passport application. When we showed up the week prior just to ask about appt. She said they had walk-ins from 2:45-3:45 on Fridays, but neglected to tell us only 4 patrons can be seen. Even if it only takes then 5-10 min to process(which let's be honest, it does not take 15 minutes). Not to mention she seemed annoyed we were there and when i asked if we could schedule an appt. did everything she could to not do it. For example, "there isn't an appt. For 3 weeks." And "well my computer is down." (Of note she had just processed the lady in front of us, passport, so we know that's likely a lie). We show up the following Friday with all of our documentation , EARLY, and that's when we found out they only take 4 people during that hour and we weren't even allowed to wait in case they finish early and could process ours. She pointed to the rest of the post office and said "we don't just do passports and ALL these people are waiting." I looked around and saw at least 3 other people working the window and other than the 4 waiting for passports there were only 3 people in line for other postal concerns. Save you effort and time. OK, so this may not be the friendliest place in town when it comes to customer interactions, but just coming to this building always makes me happy. It's such a gem inside and out that I always feel that I'm stepping back in time into a grand old building. I enjoy architecture and this is one not to be missed from all the brass inside on the old PO boxes and the lights on the counters, to the arched ceiling with the long hanging lights to the outside staircase in front and the side and the light globes. Its a okay place to go to but not sure how they handle the mailing and delivery here. I would say you should go somewhere else if you're mailing something important like a passport or something important you might have. Thanks to my old fashioned love of hand written letters (and my enormous collection of college textbooks that I'm still selling on Amazon--thanks Philosophy major!) I frequent the post office a lot! I recognized the ladies that work at this downtown branch and I would imagine they at least recognize me, however you're not going to get your friendly bartender experience at a post office. This particular branch has some lovely architecture and you will rarely walk in and not have to wait in line to mail something. I've never had an attendant be rude to me, although I can't say I've ever had one be charming either. These ladies (I don't think many males work at this branch...) are just doing a job, day after day, and from the way they act I'd think they can't wait to retire. But, since going to the post office is a practical event, let me tell you that parking at this location is limited to street only although it's time limited and not meter paid. This is the nearest post office to my work from American Tobacco campus. About a 10 minute work. The architecture of the building is really cool and you get the sense of feeling like you are going back in time. The line was short and moved quickly. I inquired about getting Christmas stamps and was shown a variety of choices. However, my coworker at a separate window with a different teller told her she's sold out of everything except for Kwanza and Happy Hanukkah. They are fine choices but she wanted something else and ended up getting Kwanza stamps. When I got my stamps, we tried to exchange them but couldn't because she used a credit card. Couldn't the teller ask her coworkers if they had any other Christmas stamps in the first place? Customer service here is not the greatest. Or at least put a few vending stamp machines at this location. read more

However, it says to be open on Saturday morning on Google or the door...but I guess they only meant the building lobby but not actually USPS counter. This USPS Office has varied a lot for me. Their building stays open longer than their "windows" (where you can talk to a post-person). However, I don't know why you would want to talk to their people. I mailed something recently and the post-lady's attitude can be kindly described as "curt" and best described as "grinch". I asked her if I could use their tape and she said (rudely) "No, your package is the cheapest package possible and our tape is for priority mail. NEXT!" Um, I wasn't done? So the next guy came and had to stand there awkwardly while I wrapped up my business with her. Thanks, post-lady. I'm sure my miniscule use of your tape is what's going to save US Post. Not your salary, pension, over-time pay, benefits, etc. *ahem* read more

The post office are good at what they do because if it was not for them how would you get your mail or packages that come from a cross the worlds just think about that the next time you want say bad things about the us post office, I am not trying to say that the things people say are not right but this people work hard to give us their services and we should show them that we are greatful for there services to us if something goes it is not the post office fault it mit be the person that sent the package or letter so think before you say something that will hurt a person feelings. By far the coolest post office I've ever been too! I was directed to go here after filling out my passport information online to get it processed! When I arrived, they do have some 30-minute street parking right in front where you would pay at the meter. I didn't know how long the passport process was going to take so I parked in the parking deck directly across the street. The deck was nearly full but I was able to find a spot on the top level. This deck is $1.25/hr during the week days. I went in through the entrance in E. Chapel Hill street. As you walk into the post office you see all the vintage mailboxes that cover all the walls! This post office dates back to 1934 where it was originally built for $300,000. This post office doesn't seem to have been modernized at all. They are still using the original light fixtures behind the counter! This is definitely a neighborhood-friendly post office. The staff all seem to having been working this same location for years and because of that they were familiar with a lot of the regulars that were coming in. Some of the staff even knew many of the people by name! I was helped by Rosie! Rosie was very sweet and took care of getting my passport processed! If you're into historic sites around Durham, definitely check out this post office! read more

I only come here to drop off mail, so I can't speak about the customer service. However, I will say that this location is the biggest and most attractive of all the USPS locations I've been to in Durham. There are also a handful of convenient 30-minute parking spots right outside. read more

I was really nervous about coming here for my passport paperwork since the reviews were pretty awful. I have to say I was very impressed on how sweet the passport lady was. She was very informative and the process went so smooth. I think when you come here you just need to be properly prepared and informed on pricing (you can get all info from their website) and then there should be no issues. The bad thing about this building is it is in downtown Durham where there is a bit of construction and a struggle to find parking. I was almost late for my appointment because of attempting to find parking so definitely arrive early. read more

I would get negative stars if I get. I get to the front of the line and I didn't walk up to the counter because the lady looked busy so I waited to be called on. She then looks at me and says "yes?" I tell her I need to ship the package in my hand and she says with an attitude "ok well you need to tape the label to the box" and just points to the tape. There's two different types of tape on her counter and that's my first time shipping so I honestly didn't know one from the other. She just walks off as I stand there confused and comes back and I point to one that says priority and I say "this one?" She responds with "obviously not that one". So while I'm taping she's standing there huffing and puffing instead of offering to help. When I'm done, she says "that it?" I just walked off. If you don't like your job, that's on YOU, but don't take it out on everyone else because of a decision that YOU made. read more

NASTY and rude! The lady today slammed my package on the counter because of a miscommunication. She talked loudly to me, she was nasty, and this is obviously a management issue because its too many old reviews here with the same complaints. If management in the local office won't deal with their employees, maybe the complaints should be escalated higher to someone who will correct the problem. read more

One star is too high of a rating and rude is an understatement! During a special event for passports the clerk at the passport window should expect questions and a large number of people asking them. The attitude of one employee - Debra has prompted me to write a letter to the Postmaster in this branch. NEGATIVE outweighs the POSITIVE Let me begin with explaining that I was there for a particular reason & I'd like to apologize for such a long review. However, this applies to all ppl in general regardless of race, age or gender! I don't mind letting you know that I myself am a born & raised American 39/F of Filipino descent. I have np saying the clerk was approx same age range female African American. NEGATIVE: As for my experience itself at this P.O. location, the wait wasn't so bad even though I had an appointment to be there in the first place. There was only 1 window open for different tranactions & the person working it was extremely rude & sarcastic to say the least! She didn't greet me back, which no big deal, but I had all my stuff completed in order & it was all correct. An re say transaction, but I asked 2 very "simple" questions that could be answered with a simple # & the other a simple Y/N. She not only ignored my questions, but rolled her eyes with such an attitude, I kept a smile & said thx & just let it go. I went over to look at some cards & couldn't help but notice that obviously she lacks regard for anyone! People of all cultures & even her own race. I normally don't post negative reviews but not only did she treat me like some low class citizen, she was like that to everybody in general. I couldn't stand how rude she was to everyone else. But I was bothered the most by her lack of respect for elderly ppl! This clerk had no manners whatsoever! Anyone with a question she acted like they were stupid. I regret not getting her name to take it up with a manager! She should be thankful to be blessed with that job! There are so many ppl who are more deserving & would appreciate to have that job & NOT treat ppl so unprofessionally & rude! On top of that,her window/line of ppl wasn't even long or busy! She had the nerve to yell out, "Anyone without an appointment needs to schedule one & come back later!" It made me sick!!! PERSONALLY: So as a FYI or some general advice, I would like to share my story to help others out before you ask a person like "that" a question. In my particular situation, I needed to get a passport, which not all post offices offer. So I was referred to this P.O. location to make an appointment "prior" to bring in the completed application & required documents/fees necessary for them to process everything in order to get one (passport will be mailed once approved). Personally, this was a much more safer application process vs the alternative of applying via mail, which requires sending your legal "original" documents & pymt. to be mailed back in return, separately from the passport itself. POSITIVE: Anyway, being my 1st time visit going to this P.O. in downtown Durham, thankfully the building itself wasn't a problem to find & there was sufficient parking spots without difficulty getting to the building. In addition, I can say I did notice they generally had several windows with available clerks to handle all things mail related, etc. So the lines appeared to move rather quickly even with a full line overall. read more

I suppose i had to select a star though none are deserved. I represent a business customer, our daily mail is our life blood. Today is Tuesday October 10 2017, the day after Columbus Day. It is now 3 pm and we have sent personnel to the Durham Main PO 3 time today and there is still no mail in our box, nothing since Friday, impossible! The PO personnel are not concerned, they offer nothing, could care less if their customers are served and move so painfully slow that they exemplify the very caricature of a Government employee! Why aren't these facilities staffed properly to handle the extra work after a holiday? Do they have no appreciation of the effect this has on commerce or do they just not care? After four out of four bad visits to this US post office, I wrote them a one-star review on Google. Yesterday, however, our visit was good! Hopefully the situation that was zapping the life out of the team has been resolved permanently. I am upgrading my review to two stars and hopefully more in the future. P. S. I have been to this post office at least ten times and there is usually a line. It takes a long time to be helped. Some of the postal workers are friendly, but some are mean to customers and have a bad attitude with them. One postal worker in particular provides poor customer service. She assumes the customer knows everything about mailing stuff and will yell at the customer. She yelled at me because I was confused about mailing something. The only thing this post office has going for it is the architecture. It's a gorgeous place, but some of the staff could do with a little lesson in manners. They act like you are taking up their precious time and can't wait for you to leave! Don't bother calling them, they won't call you back and they NEVER answer the phone. Checked online on something I had ordered and it actually said that it was delivered on Saturday and the business was closed on Saturday. Didn't get it Monday either. It's sad when you don't expect anything else out of them, but I've had plenty of checks get lost in the mail or never delivered (so that could possibly be blamed on the post office on the other end) but the mail went all over the country so I'm thinking it was the local office. When I called the vendor, they said that it was left outside. Pretty good trick considering there's a fence around the whole place and it was locked. The vendor even said that it wasn't unusual for them to put that it was delivered and as long as it was delivered within a week the post office didn't see anything wrong with it. It is close by so I'll take it until I can't take anymore. But don't make a special trip over here unless you want to see the architecture, otherwise you're probably going to be disappointed. read more
