Good on them for it too. If this one isn't too far out of your way, give it a shot. Parking is a little whacky and it is small, but I'd say this is probably the best post office in the general area.

Upon arriving I did find one handicapped parking space in a gravel driveway but no ramp to lead to the walkway so a friend had to take me up a grassy hill to get me to the walk way. Once there I could find no way into the house. Someone finally told me I had to enter through the service entrance, which was very narrow and cramped. Then I had to go through a narrow and cramped kitchen. The wheelchair just made it past the doorways within 1/4". I was then told that there were three steps to the art gallery so I drove 45 minutes and went through all that to get inside the house just to find out that I wouldn't be able to see the art at all. Luckily the artist was there and she brought out each individual piece for me to see or the trip would have been a complete waste of time. She will not be there for the rest of the month. I was just lucky to be attending the reception. This gives one pause when being assured that a place is handicapped accessible to begin with. I have the impression that they are just handicapped accessible enough to comply with local laws and full disclosure should have been given to me at the time of my call. I would not visit again or suggest that any handicapped person visit.

Weirdly enough, the State Surplus Property Agency was recommended to me by a local Cary business…read moreowner. During a day trip in Cary, playing "tourist" we were looking for things to do, and the surplus agency sounded like an adventure. And let me tell you, an adventure it is! You never know what you're going to find at the surplus, but it's all items that have been donated by the state through confiscation [at the airport, drug busts, etc] or from state offices [colleges, government buildings, etc]. When getting to the Surplus, if you're headed down Chapel Hill Road AWAY from Cary, take the second gravel entrance [past the building] and park in front of the chainlink fence. Walk through the chainlink fence and walk up the stairs located to your right. Among other things, you'll possibly be greeted by some trackers or cars initially, and then you walk inside and hit "the good stuff." Everything from old school notebooks, medical equipment, pocket knives, laptops, bullet casings, and bottle openers. You've also got a mix of office chairs, desks and tables mixed in with your random collection of laboratory refrigerators, arcade games a possible piano and lawn chairs. It really can be a hit or a miss at the surplus, and if you're looking for something specific, this might not be the best place to look. However, that being said, if you are looking for a general piece, this place could be perfect for you! I'd say the surplus is most full of desks and chairs, so if you're into recovering/refinishing things this is a great spot to purchase something cheap! Other items go through a bidding system, which is a little more complicated and time consuming, so look for the items that you can take home that day.

Originally the only thing that was unexpected was the fact that the cashier had to write my driver's license number and address on the check, she said it was needed to track me down in case the check bounced. Easy Wake County offices with plenty of parking as an option to going Downtown Raleigh and fighting for parking 15 minutes is all it took to do all the paperwork and pay at the cashier without lines. The only thing was that the cashier had to write down my address and Driver's license number on the check in case the check bounced. Lol If paid by cc there is a 4% surcharge but at this location they take cash or check only, no cc processing machines here. Question to Yelp, why Wake County be allowed to edit a review and change the name of the original review given in good faith to their Regional Center, if so why don't they change their marquee since it is misleading to the general public that come to do business here. Certainly, shows how the Board of Elections votes now doesn't it? Either way works for me. I'm between Wake Forest and Knightdale. Rather than spend the 28 minutes to drive up to Wake Forest I'll do my early voting in Knightdale (15 minute drive). That is until the vote is suppressed to the point of having to take off work to vote; in person, day of election, bring everything that documents you are a US citizen, your first born grandchild AND a pint of blood! I come here a few times a week to work out and take fitness classes. Durham is truly helping those with all the programs offered at the recreational centers. Some classes are free and others have a small fee but everything f is within reason. There's a small gym, basketball court, computer lab, dance studio, and more! The staff at the front aren't always the friendliest but they're there if you need help. You'll have to specifically ask. I personally love the hip hop aerobics class that's offered ... FOR FREE! The instructor is energetic & personable. They have a field directly across & there's always some events/games going on weather permitting. Entering can be a bit tricky as one side is typically gated and you enter through the back & not the front which is street side. Check them out & try a class!
