I had to send multiple packages to different countries for the Indian festival of Rakhi, and the staff were incredibly patient, friendly, and helpful throughout the entire process. They helped me sort everything out, and even though it took quite a while, I never felt rushed. The location is clean, organized, and welcoming, and everyone was so pleasant to deal with. Went to get passports done for my children. Took photos myself at home so save a buck. The lady helping me thought it was appropriate to mock my kids' faces by making her eyes wide and puff her cheeks up saying "they're faces are too big. You need new pictures." I apologized for not knowing there was a face size requirement. After taking new pictures, she asks for the pictures I took at home. Assuming she wanted me to see the difference, I responded with "Yes, their faces are too big, I know." She insisted and said "just bring them out." She then took my child's picture, called her coworker and said "look at this picture! Look how big the face is!" They both proceeded to laugh while other customers are also around. I interrupted with "okay, I think that's enough. There's no need to embarrass me for my mistake." She then returned my photo and continued to do the paperwork. I'm glad my kids were occupied with the greeting cards and unaware of this worker's behavior. 2 stars because the paperwork was completed, but I won't be returning. read more

This is a really nice USPS store located in a nice, serene area in the Clayton Downtown area and next to a nice park, so the area was very green and surrounded by trees and plants. I went there on a weekend morning and pleasantly found that finding street parking to be super easy, and in fact there was a lot of parking available right in front of the store. I was able to conduct my business there and get in and out of the store pretty quickly. Definitely I would go to this USPS store again if I happen to be in the area. read more

I am trying to limit my December trips to the post office. But if I have to go, the Clayton PO is my choice. Good parking, friendly service, COVID protocols in place. I was surprised on a recent visit to be greeted by name. What?! I recognized the voice, but it took me a minute to recognize the "masked man." Such a horrible location, whoever is running this location needs to be fired or training to know how to run the store. We had to come two times to get our passport application done, no one was able to help us, two ladies were in the store, didn't care about our time, our effort that we are putting in to get our application started, and how important was for us to get the passport done, they really didn't care, and there excuse was that they don't have employees. Going into this location two times and nobody was able to serve us or help us to get a picture at least. Went in to mail a package and put my stuff medium flat rate box. I have the use of only one arm as I had surgery on it and just had cast removed today so as you may know that it is weak. It took me about 20 minutes or so to box it up and fill out address label as I can't really grasp a pen. Needless to say, I was riding the struggle bus. I take my package to the front and an Asian lady was helping me, she asked me all the questions and when it got to the one if any liquid was in the box, I said yes, perfume. She pushed the box back at me and said no liquid in flat rate box, only in ground. You can take it home and redo. I said, no I need to get it out today and she pushed the scissors at me and said go open it and repack it. I told her I have the use of one arm and it's a struggle, she just looked at me. A very nice lady offered to help me, I found an empty box and we packed my gift. I went up and asked for tape, she said you have to buy it. Like, are you kidding me?! She couldn't spare a strip of tape, a single strip of tape?! I had to pay $3.99 for one piece of tape. Do better!!! I hope she learns something about human decency. read more

Something is amiss at the Clayton California post office. I've attended demolition derby's with less chaos. Now I normally enjoy chaos and bad behavior- yes I do. However when it's mail time, I just want the mail delivered. No fuss. No muss. No mistrust. The Clayton, California post office is now heavy on the 'mistrust'. In the month of December I mailed two letters from that PO that never showed up at the recipients address. Hell, I've been using the US postal service since I was a young whipper back in the early 1970's- yes the 1970's and I've NEVER had a single letter not arrive. Both times I was in that PO other citizens were trying to claim packages that they were told (via email or via a peach colored post card) were waiting for them at that post office. Lord have mercy! You would have thought they were asking the postal employee for a box of magic beans. The employees were looking in boxes, they were searching cabinets, they were digging through big canvas carts... hell she even looked inside her coworkers cash drawer- for a 20 x 20 box! The employee finally decided, "it's here but it's not officially here... so can you come back in a few hours?" My my my. I did feel bad for the young lady working today. She had a busted wing and was all wrapped up in a sling. Great! Nothing more efficient than a one armed package handler. Neither one of my missing letters has ever been delivered or returned. It's probably there- just not officially there. read more

In all too familiar world where post office employees can be real jerks, the ones employed at the Clayton office break that trend. I first called the office to make sure they have P.O. boxes available. The woman on the phone (I can't recall her name at the moment) was not only pleasant to speak with; she knew what she was talking about. I dropped in later that day around noon (this was a Thursday), and I was helped by both Hector and Shauna, the latter looking like she was in training. Hector has a great personality, was very friendly, and judging by his training of Shauna is a very good mentor as well. Shauna did a great job helping me out in opening up a new P.O. Box. The office closes at 5, but the area with the P.O. Boxes is open 24 hours a day. If you want to avoid grumpy Post Office workers, or long lines, I highly suggest checking out the Clayton branch. read more

This is my local post office but it lacks one of those 24 hour postage kiosks and its lobby lacks the different priority mail supplies (they don't stock their lobby on a regular basis). I guess negative yelp reviews are for times like these... I went to the post office Saturday just before closing to get money orders to pay my rent. I've never mis-counted before, but this time I handed the clerk 1785 in cash and she counted it while I looked for change in my purse to actually pay for the money orders. When she finished counting, she said it was 100 short.... I didn't think it could be, so I asked to count it... She let me count it, I accepted that maybe I dropped some in my car and handed her another hundred dollars, so o could get my money orders... Later I counted my remaining cash and went thru my car to ensure that I wasn't wrong. I wasn't wrong....... So today I went back to ask if they had cameras in the post office so I could confirm this. Of course the only camera they have is pointed at the line of customers, not at the employees.... So there's no way to prove that she stole $100 from me, while I was focused on other things..... No way to prove that a federal employee doesn't deserve to keep her job. (I'm just saying, if she'll steal $100 right in front of my face, what might she do with the mail?) And no way to get my $100 back. :/ Without proof (that they aren't making any effort to record) my only protection (and yours) is to watch them count, like a hawk, when you come in with cash... Or maybe even count it out on the counter before handing it over to them... Because the girl who stole from me isn't even getting fired.... So she'll be there to potentially steal from YOU too. Prior to this experience, my only negative has been having to wait in line, but that's normal and hardly worth reviewing. read more

I've always had good experiences at this post office. It's our neighborhood USPS so I've been stopping by fairly frequently in the last 6 months. The people that work here are very friendly, and it does seem to be about the same 4 people that work everyday, probably due to the size of the place. The reason for the 4 instead of 5 stars is I did run into some issues when trying to apply for a passport for my daughter and renew my passport. You have to sign up for an appointment online to go through your application(s) with someone, and it was frustrating because the information that I found online (some of it was directly from the USPS site) was not the same as what the rep went over with me in person. For example, you have to put tracking on a new application. They require it, although on all the websites I found, its supposedly an option, and of course cost an extra $20 or so (I don't remember the exact cost right now). In the end, I think the new application cost a very significant amount of money, around $180. Which was about $60 more than I though it would be when I was planning everything ahead of time. And this was just for the new passport--not including the renewal. I think it's just the natural beast of getting a passport, but it still was frustrating in the moment. I agree with the positive and negative reviews here and for that posting. But the negatives have caused me hours of wasted time and money so overall it's one star. I have lived downtown and in a rural area. In both cases there was more mail misdelivered than in any other town I've lived in. The rural situation is far worse, however. My mailbox is at the end of a long driveway. FedEx and UPS will always drive up to the house to drop off a package. The post office never does. The pink slip gets filled out sometimes for me to pick it up, but sometimes not. Tracking the orders in Amazon shows the item is at the post office, but no one can find it. I have had to file several claims with various merchants. The post office has rendered my Amazon prime account advantage of two day delivery useless since I can only get my packages between 10 and 2 on Saturdays. God forbid I have plans during that four hour window. I have had to get a locked mailbox because my mail was being stolen. I don't see that as their problem. They can't monitor all day. However, when I reported the theft to them, I expected to get some instruction on how to file a report, not advice to get a PO box that I'd have to pay them more money for. It has gotten so bad that I have to redirect every USPS package delivery to my work office. Update April 15, 2015. I have redirected all mail and packages to the UPS store. This was the best decision I've made in a while and was absolutely necessary when USPS started leaving packages on top of the locking mailbox!! I had the locking mailbox because people were stealing my mail and the post office was well aware of that. What would possess them, then, to put packages on top of a locked mailbox? Additionally, my neighbor and I chatted about how the service has gone downhill and she now uses Rodie's as a recipient for her packages. I attempted to discuss with the manager, who informed me that we have the same mail carrier we've always had, and there wasn't anything she could do. I normally go to this post office since it's closer but had a couple negative experiences. 1st one: I sell clothes for a living and deliver through usps. I dropped off a package (shoes), didn't scan it in, just dropped it off on the side of the cash wrap where big packages get left. I was instructed I could do so by the mail clerk. I went to track my package the next day and the package wasn't scanned it. Waited a week- still no tracking, called and asked if any pkgs were left behind and explained my issues. I hade a rude, ghetto woman from the post office give me attitude when I explained my concerns- wasn't helpful at all! Checked the following few days to the end of the next week, still pkg wasn't checked in from the Clayton post office. After everything, the package had "mysteriously disappeared" and I had to refund my customer and lose out on inventory. I'm sure someone at that post office stole it-since it showed that i never I dropped it off. I spoke to a mail clerk at the concord post off, who was nice and very helpful. She had suggested to have it scanned it rather than just dropping it off and taking the receipt for the tracking (its free). Great advice! 2nd: I was running errands and was pressed for time and had to drop off at the Clayton post office- this was 1 month later from the last issue. I waited in line to have my boxes scanned. The same ghetto woman who I talked to on the phone "assisted" me, more like gave me attitude. I told her I wanted it scanned in-she scanned it in and was like "its scanned"- I asked for the receipt (mind u, I never had an issue anywhere else). She was like "why" with an attitude, it was scanned in. I told her I needed the tracking. She was like "u can take a pic"- that wasn't the f'ing point, plus I don't have a camera w me. It was proof that she did scan it in, and wasn't going to steal it. She told me that it was $1.75 for the receipt, which is bull. I told her I never paid- why? She was like "u have to pay all the time." Which is bull bc it says FREE for tracking on their signage. I didn't have time to argue with this ghetto woman so I left, hoping it doesn't get stolen! I scheduled an appointment to get my daughter's passport and was very satisfied with the service. I called ahead to ask some questions and was greeted by a very nice man. My wife had a great experience with the asian lady that helped her with her passport for her and our daughter. The worker was as kind as can be and even handled a very rude customer with patience and concern. Even postal coworkers were rude to this sweet asian postal worker. This is the worst post office on the planet. When we resided in Clayton, they constantly misdelivered our items (some went next door, a couple actually were in an entirely different subdivision. I recall one should have gone to Easley Estates and another to Dana Hills. We were in Regency Woods), on others they would misdeliver a JURY SUMMONS. When we would call and complain they were downright rude (Johnny was the initial manager who treated us like garbage. What did the USPS do? Promotes him to Postmaster General in Clayton *smh*) and unaffected. It was if they never wished to correct our problem. This persisted for a couple years so we ended up having to go through Senator Feinstein's office to fix the issue (we should never have had to go that far). The carrier, Linda, was fantastic. However, she's not enough to rate this place above a single star. read more

All of the mailboxes in my neighborhood are at the end of the driveway. I'm giving this post office 2 stars for our carrier - God forbid he actually has to get out of his truck to bring a package to our door! My husband was in the garage (in plain view) the other day when our carrier pulled up to deliver our mail. Does he call out to my husband that he has a package for us? No. In the time it would have taken him to GET OUT OF HIS PRECIOUS TRUCK and bring the package up the driveway, he instead fills out one of those stupid peach "Sorry We Missed You!" slips, which I either have to fill out so that he can re-deliver it in about 2 days, or I have to drive down to the post office to pick it up. Sheesh. I have no complaints about the actual post office, though. Everyone there is very friendly & good-natured. read more

Matching Clayton's small town feel, the people who work here are always cheerful and remember your name and are genuinely nice people, which is rare to find in a post office environment. This post office is located in the downtown Clayton shopping area. There are several free street parking spots, so parking is never a problem. It is a medium sized post office and they usually have one person working the desk. There is generally a line of 2-4 people waiting whenever I am there. Sometimes they are able to call up someone from the back, but you are usually left waiting. The staff working can be hit or miss, especially the pass port person. read more

I love this post office. Since I work in Clayton it is very convenient. There is hardly ever a long wait [I usually go between 4-4:30pm]. Almost always 2 people working the windows. If the line is more that 5 they call out a 3rd person if one is available. The people are VERY friendly and professional. They are very quick even though the new computer system doubles the time it used to take them. Even 2 weeks before Christmas the wait was no more than 15-20min. At the Antioch office it is 30min on just about any day. The only day I avoid is TAX day!! It gets crazy!! read more

I thought the po box would be better than Walnut Creek on North Broadway so I moved over the Clayton post office. Wrong, I'm paying money to rent the box but I still don't get all my mail, I still don't get all my yellow slips when I have a package delivered and the African American woman working there on each occasion I have gone to pick up packages never fails to miss one so I have to go back and ask her again to look and invariably she finds more and doesn't apologize but has rather said oh, your missing package was under someone else's. Well, could you be a little more diligent perhaps even get on a system to see how many packages I have so it's not a crapshoot. (I get a lot and I shouldn't have to do their work). Today, I had a notice that I had a package delivered. She said come back in an hour because it's here but hasn't been scanned. Six hours later they haven't scanned it. She acts like my schedule is on target with the post office hours which is absolutely not true. When I went to rent a po box she gave me one that was the first row from the bottom so I have to crouch down. That's an aside but I have no doubt that here are others available where I would not have to strain my back to get my mail. Speaks to more poor customer service, I should have asked for a better box but I didn't think of it. The friendly efficient Asian lady and the African American man will go out of their way to help. I spoke to the supervisor about the issues with the clerk mentioned above. She said oh yeh, sometimes they don't put in a yellow slip for each delivery. Seems reasonable. Duh. She sounds as apathetic as the clerk who keeps wasting my time with her lack of diligence. Now I have to make yet another trip back because she wasn't willing to find my package, scan it in, give it to me so I didn't have to make a return trip. Again no apologize or motivation to go out of her way to find it. It wasn't even busy she's just lazy, rude and should be home instead of drawing someone else's salary who would actually appreciate having a job and actually do it well. Ever since the new Postmaster took over and we lost all the wonderful employees (retired just in time) this place is the pits. I schedule hold for our mail at our house (usually start date the day before we leave) - and guess what - they deliver the mail. Then it sits in the mailbox until we return. We get other people's mail at our house and at our P.O. Box. I tried to call the elusive Postmaster (they say she is not there - ever) to complain. When I finally got someone to answer the phone - she said I needed to talk to the Postmaster. Instead of getting my name and number she promptly hung up. This is a waste of our taxpayers money. The 1st grade class at Mt. Diablo Elementary can run this place better. read more

If I could give this post office 0 stars, I would. This post office and its workers are horrible at customer service! I've lived in clayton downtown for 13 years! And have yet to see their service change. I have complained to them more than 10 times about missing packages! Every time I talk to the same management, must be assistant manager, is never any help! She always tells me to "wait" or "ill get back to you" for my packages even when they say delivered on front porch! I have a camera and every time can see THEY ARE NEVER DELIVERED! ON five attempts I have had to walk up, door to door to my neighbors and find my own packages. Including many times student books, amazon packages, and valuable items. Not to mention when I get them they are always broken inside, causing me to have to get refunds on items that are no longer available, when I just wanted my packages! It's like they purposely shake up my packages and this happens time after time. BROKEN ITEMS! On top of management continuously telling me to "wait" they say they will keep in touch, and I have even requested weekly updates, yet I never have received a message or call back. How do they even know my package (which I FIND MYSELF AT SOMEONE ELSES HOUSE) finally got delivered? Its like they don't care. And additionally have found their delivery men slacking on the job, hanging around some clayton houses, almost on their lunch breaks. Including my own house and makes my family uncomfortable. For years the Clayton PO was filled with dedicated employees who always had a smile and a kind word. Several of these employees have retired and the service has gone downhill. The new supvisors have been incompetent, not just once in a while, but frequently. I complained, other neighbors complained and as I would wait in line for service, I would iisten to others share their frustrations. My biggest complaint is their inability to forward mail. My latest experience was 10 days ago, when I went to my old address to pick up mail which had been delivered to my old Clayton address, instead of my new Walnut Creek address. There I found First Class mail, with the yellow change of address labels, indicating the new address and still it was delivered to my old address AND it contained a check I had been waiting for from the IRS. I went to this Post Office today to renew my son's passport. He is a minor (17) and so he has to come with me. This will be his 3rd passport, so I'm no stranger to the procedure and the forms. My son has special needs and among other things has severe hypotonia which makes standing for a long period of time really difficult. I chose this Post Office because it is small and on their website offers the passport services on Saturdays between 11am and 2pm. I arrive shortly after 11am and there are 2 employees working, the female employee is assisting a family of 3 with their passport applications. I get to the counter and the male employee tells me I have to wait for the female employee to go over my forms, etc. So I wait. Finally after about 20 minutes, she is finished with them and by now there is a line of customers in the post office. So, both employees are helping the customers who just showed up. After about the 10th customer, I approached the female employee and told her I have been there for some time and have been waiting and she tells me that "we don't do passports on Saturdays", so the other customers are a priority. I told her the Clayton post office website specifies that they do passports on Saturdays between 11am and 2pm and she said that the website is not updated. So I wait patiently because I am not a priority as she put it. Finally after almost an hour in this post office, I tell her I have to leave as my son can no longer stand and at this point there is a line of people and there is no where for him to sit. Me and my family have shipped several packages overseas through this office for several several years with little or no problems. I recently tried shipping with the UPS because I thought I was saving 5 bucks, but they just gave me and my family a mess. That incident made me miss doing business with the USPS. read more
