Note I Left for letter carrier which he didn't put back in the mailbox as I had requested.

I apologize in advance for the length of this post, but I am beyond livid. Maybe I should have waited several days to cool down so I could write something shorter, but I need to vent. It never ceases to amaze me how incompetent the personnel at the main Bowie post office on Rt. 197 are. I put a hold on my mail from 8/28/21 through 9/6/21 and requested that my accumulated mail be delivered instead of me picking it up at the post office. Since 9/6/21 was Labor Day and there was no mail delivery, all of my accumulated mail was supposed to have been delivered on Tuesday, 9/7/21. However, the only mail I received on 9/7/21, which was not delivered by my regular carrier, was the mail I was supposed to have received for that day. I know because I receive an email from the USPS every day with images of most of that day's mail (envelopes only; no images of magazines or packages). While my mail was on hold, I continued to receive daily emails and there were at least 18 pieces of mail that should have been delivered on Tuesday, 9/7/21. On Wednesday, 9/8/21, I attempted to call the main Bowie post office, but, as usual, no one answered. So, I printed the email I received from the postal service on 9/6/21 showing that the hold on my mail was ending and that my accumulated mail would be delivered by the post office on 9/7/21. I wrote a note in red ink on the email to the attention of the letter carrier that I wanted the mail that had been held to be delivered. I asked that he put the printed email back in my mailbox so that I know that he read it. I taped the email to the mailbox so that he would have to move it to put the mail in the mailbox. I had hoped that this would force him to read it. As I was leaving my house around 3:30PM, I saw my regular letter carrier at a neighbor's house. When I returned around 4:20PM, there was one piece of mail in my mailbox but the letter carrier didn't put the email back in my mailbox as I had requested. So, I don't know if he even read it. By this time, I was seeing red. I tried calling the post office but, again, the phone just rang, and rang, and rang (a total of 23 times) and no one answered. The last time I put a hold on my mail, the Bowie post office lost my hold request even though I got an email confirmation of the request from the Postal Service. One of my neighbors, who knew I was gone and I had told I put a hold on my mail, just happened to be outside when she saw a substitute carrier walk up to my front porch and put mail in my mailbox. She yelled to him that I was gone and had put a hold on the mail. The carrier said to the effect of, "I didn't see any paperwork on it" and put the mail in my mailbox anyway. Fortunately, at the time, I had a very conscientious regular carrier who noticed that my mail was piling up. So, he took it upon himself to take and hold all of the mail in my mailbox and stopped delivering any more of my mail. He left me a note asking that I let him know when I had returned, by leaving a note for him in my mailbox, so he could deliver all of my accumulated mail. When he did, he said he looked for my hold request at the post office but could not find it. Unfortunately, he was my regular carrier for only about a year and a half before he got transferred to a different route. While he was my regular carrier, it was the first time that I didn't have a problem with receiving other people's mail and not receiving mail I knew I was supposed to receive, except on his days off and when he was on vacation. I don't want to give his name. I'm afraid that someone who is as conscientious as he is and actually does their job right might get in trouble in an organization as incompetent as the rest of the employees at the main Bowie post office, because his work ethic makes everyone else look bad. My wife is going to the Bowie post office tomorrow to see if they have our mail, which should have been on the letter carrier's delivery vehicle on Tuesday, Sept. 7th. I'm having her go because if I go, I'm apt to get arrested for disorderly conduct because I've had it with their constant mistakes and incompetency for almost 30 years.

Pretty average post office. They did not have any priority labels out which definitely slows down the process. This particular post office did not have a sign on the building, so if you are not paying attention, you can easily pass this place up. The staff was pretty friendly and the line moved relatively fast.

I have been waiting for a replacement MVA document for which I have to sign. The Lanham office…read moreSAYS it tried to deliver on March 22 but I was home all day and NO ONE knocked or rang the bell. They also did not leave a note. Then they claimed that they attempted delivery on Sunday March 23. I was at a scheduled MRI and had been told BY THE DMV that the earliest attempted delivery would be Monday, March 24 so I thought I could attend my MRI without missing a delivery. However, if I had been told that they would be here Sunday, I could have rescheduled the MRI despite being in intense pain. Yesterday, Monday, again -no delivery. Today I went to the website but it was a horrible experience. Their system asked for the tracking number but I was cut off after in putting only half the numbers on my phone keypad. I tried several times and I KNOW I had the correct number. Later, I went to my porch and found mail, including a notice that the Lanham carrier could not deliver and "were sorry they missed me." They did NOT miss me. I have been near the front door all day. The carrier made NO attempt to see if anyone was home - did not knock or ring the bell - just left the stupid note. I requested an investigation via the main post office about HOW to get my package but that was before the carrier put delivery notice put in my mail box. What is wrong with the Lanham Post Office that the carrier will not due her damn job and knock or ring the bell so an old lady can get her important MVA document???? How much effort does it take to ring a bell or knock on the damn door????
