Snowflakes are new this year so I got some of those, some Christmas and then a baby animals set (not holiday themed in case I have some left over). I also bought 10 international forever stamps which had a poinsettia design. I believe this location offers self checkout where you can weigh your package, pay postage and drop off your package in a box but I haven't tried this before. Even the cheaper options were pretty pricey, and it was pie, so I couldn't go with the cheapest next week delivery option. I was about to give up, then I remembered that the USPS did offer some quickish delivery options and ran over before their door locked at 6pm. Good news - if you make it in, they will take care of you. Relief! The two pies didn't fit into their large priority box with 2-3 day delivery. Given the risk to the pie quality, I ended up shipping one pie in a medium flat rate box (11-7/8x3-3/8x13-5/8 inch) for $13.65 (one rate, any weight! box included, and with a tracking #), which would have cost $56.99 for 2 day ship at FedEx (about 4 lb, and the price doesn't include a box). A male worker came from the back to help us and our transaction was over in less than ten minutes with no issues. They provide glue sticks for customers to seal their envelopes. Most of my experiences in Post Offices involve huge lines and dawdling employees. The folks here seem to actually want to get through the line quickly. While it's clear that most employees dislike their jobs (and perhaps rightfully so), I do my best to make their day as easy and pleasant as possible. Typically, they offer the same in return. Except for the female staff member who yells and berates people. She's consistently unpleasant. Yet, she's only been overtly aggressive towards me once. (This is a strong record, since I see her verbally abuse people almost every time I enter the Post Office while she's working, which is multiple times per week.) Today, she took it to a new level. As usual, I handed her my pre-stamped package that she only needs to scan. And, as usual, she asked me what was inside. (The answer is always either clothes or books.) We've repeated this ritual for months. Today, however, she took a turn. Me: "It's a coat." Her: "I don't believe you. The box says fragile." Me: "It's a reused box." Her: "Tell the truth!" Then, she proceeded to violently shake the box. Her: "I can hear something. Stop lying to me." Me: "It's a coat. It's not fragile. Feel free to shake it." Her: "Stop lying." Me: "Go ahead an open it." It... was a coat. When I asked her why she thought I was lying, she said something to the effect of "My manager tells me to ask everyone." And, I know that's not true. Last week--when her manager was at the desk because the customer in front of me complained--she was treated me kindly for the first time ever. ___ I understand that the Postal Service is a serious job with real regulations and legal implications. It's also... a service. If a few employees at this location decided to be less miserable, I think it could go a long, long way--and make customers nicer, too. I wish them luck. Inside they were short staffed but they were trying, the young lady who helped me was friendly and efficient and she also paused to help someone else who needed help with a self service question--copier/loading the paper/where he could find it, et al. It all went smoothly, I was a bit worried b/c no receipt but the family member emailed me to tell me the return went through/all was well. This was my limited experience here but it was a positive one.
