I went in to get new keys for my mailbox after moving, and the staff made it simple, quick, and we were able to get the same price as ten years ago to get a new key set, which was a pleasant surprise. Alright, so I could write a whole novel about this place. I have spent more time than I would have liked to these past few weeks but before I get into it, I'd like to point out that they did fix my issue and were both kind and honest (with the exception of one person, who may have been having an off day). I'm a recent transplant to Albany from California (I know, I know, and I'm sorry). I purchased my first home here in Albany and was super excited about it - after spending my entire adult life as a renter to some shady landlords, I was a property owner! And everything was good - I love my little home, I love the town, I love the people in the town - but I was notified that I wasn't going to receive mail at my new home unless A) I built a communal mailbox spot ON my property that would include mailboxes for me and my neighbors or B) me and my neighbors paid to open PO Boxes. See, previously mail was delivered door-to-door but for a variety of reasons they didn't want to do it anymore and claimed that any new resident/tenant would have to have a communal box that could be accessed by the mail carrier without leaving their car or else. The thing is, the POM (one of the USPS's manuals, said that this was incorrect - that the USPS could not force people in established (not new) buildings to change their mode of delivery. The Albany post office, though, had not heard this so they gave me quite a bit of resistance and, for a while, they were not delivering my mail. Thankfully, though, the fine folks at the Albany USPS office did more research into the issue and I was eventually allowed to continue getting mail at the door. The last time I went in, they were very nice and helpful. I was initially pretty upset at this post office, but they made it right and I'm good with that. So thank you Diane and Brian (I think that's their name). I appreciate the work you put in to get this issue resolved. read more

We spent the last few years looking for a Lladro Figural piece from Spain called "Fox Hunt". When it was discontinued in 2014 it sold for $10,000.00 and in some instances it sold for $15,000.00. We finally located one in Washington DC, negotiated a price & they shipped it to Albany Oregon in same original Lladro padded box designed to withstand a trip from Spain to USA. USPS beat the HELL out of the beautiful work of art & will not reimburse the seller even though it was fully insured. We have the USPS delivery guy on video striking the curb with it on a hand truck with it sideways! read more

You know, the United States government has a bad rap, but I think they're pretty good people and they really know how to run a business properly at this post office. You've got to love the retro look of most US post offices and this one doesn't disappoint at all. From the brown 70's paneling on the wall and the dirty white square tiles on the floor to the oversized window blinds, this location didn't miss one detail of making it the most depressing place to stand around in while you wait for the understaffed counter to help the dozens of customers that are forming a line out the door. One of the really nice touches to this place is the way they completely boarded up the windows from the inside to make things look even more depressing. Then they hung garbage all over the boards like framed photographs of stamps signed by Dale Erndhart Jr. and lots of old boxes. I think not ever letting any sunlight into the lobby is a great way to help the employees stay focused on their work. A few years back the post office decided that their customers were getting served at the window way too quickly, so they asked the DMV how they could make things move more slowly inside. The DMV suggested that they start accepting passport applications because that takes forever. So now if there's only a couple people in front of you and one goes up and says, "I'd like to get a passport." you know you're going to be standing around for an hour while the clerk gets all the paperwork together and leaves the counter to take a picture of the customer with his aging Polaroid camera. (How fitting is that, a dying company using Polaroid cameras.) This post office has the standard point of sale terminals that most post offices use which includes a computer, a thermal receipt printer, a scale and a screen for you to enter your PIN and sign your name. Underneath the hood is apparently an Apple IIe computer from the 80's because that's about how fast it runs. Above the counter you'll find passive-aggressive signs ordering customers not to come up to the counter while they're still on their cell phones. The postmaster, with his Polaroid cameras and his Apple computers, clearly hates modern technology. On the wall behind the clerks you'll see a scrolling LED display which displays useful information on it, such as "PLEASE FINISH YOUR CELL PHONE CONVERSATIONS BEFORE APPROACHING THE COUNTER." The conversations that the waiting patrons have are the most stimulating thing you'll hear all day. You'll hear them say things like, "You'd think they could hire a couple more people to work at a register." and "Why are there 6 registers here when they never have more than 2 people working?" Oh man, that's the best. And then there's the people standing outside all year, trying to gather signatures for their political beliefs or trying to get you to donate money to something. I just can't imagine why the United States post office is losing billions of dollars every year with a nice, snazzy setup like this. And yet all these independent post office stores around town seem to do just fine with their carpeted floors and open sunshine policies and short lines. Oh look, I'm next in line now! This means that I might have my turn to mail packages in as little as 10 minutes! So I better finish up this review now. Good luck, future patrons who don't want to drive a little further down the road to the mailbox store at Fred Meyer because you think that driving a shorter distance saves time. read more

US Post Office - The decor here reminds me of my parents basement in the 80's - Post Offices Near Me - Albany, Oregon

Driver does not like if we ship stuff from our home, if we sell stuff online and ship it. Too lazy. He asked we use tubs if we must ship. We used a tub. He then took the tub back to his truck, emptied it and returned it full of garbage. (see images) The items he took from the tub were never scanned. We now lost the items. We are now out $400+. We have to refund everyone. It was the money we were using to help pay bills. We have no income, we lost our jobs and no unemployment. You are really making it so we may lose our home. You have no care for human kindness. You have a job with benefits and you treat others this way. Should be beyond ashamed. I can't get a hold of the anyone at USPS, only an online form. The local post office phone is off the hook they're not taking calls, busy signal all day.. tried 40x. Postmaster Marcy can't be reached. I called other locations and they told me to call the same number that's offline. We will be filing a theft report with the Albany Police based the items taken by the carrier and the garbage returned. I hope they can do a DNA test on the coffee cups left in the garbage. I have a really nice mail carrier and there is one decent supervisor there with a good work ethic.. other than that forget it. I have had so many misdelivered ( expensive) packages now that I don't trust them to delivery my mail. Most of the people there are petty and inefficient. If you do get a good one they burn out due to the apathy and poor work ethics of the others. In short , along with this city's water, the post office sucks. I sent TWO birthday cards to my grandsons via a SW Albany PO BOX from Rochester, NY 14609 on 6/6/2019. The PO Box has been closed and my daughter has a new residential address. However, these cards and gifts were not forwarded or returned. What has become of them? Do you simply shove them in the terminated PO BOX with no regard to the addressee?! What the hell!! If I wrote a review every time I have a problem at this post office this page would be endless. The lobby machine works sporadically and they have only one person "who knows how to fix it". This week, two for two times it didn't work. My record is 5 out of 6 times in a row I went to use it and it didn't work. I have to use the machine because of my odd work hours, I post things up to four times a week. We have a new post master and he knows nothing about the machine. They all think it's funny. It's not. The current post office worker for my location needs to be fired and replaced immediately. I walked up to my mailbox today and the mailman was throwing a tantrum like a child because an elderly woman was waiting for her mail and he had to walk around her a few times. HE SLAMMED PACKAGES TO THE SIDEWALK! HE USED FOUL LANGUAGE TOWARDS THE ELDERLY WOMAN mail man: "You're not getting your %T#$ mail today". He left his handheld device on top of the UNLOCKED mailboxes and drove away! I dropped the device off at the branch and informed them of what occurred over the phone. This is probably the worst post office I've ever had to deal with. Sometimes they are opened on Saturdays- sometimes they are not. There is no warning on if they will in fact be open. Also, the phone number- doesn't work. In fact I called the parcel location down the street and they gave me a different number- which did not work. I drive down to send something out and set up a po box and asked about their phones. The reply that I got was "oh yeah the phones haven't worked in a while" ?!!?!?!? Are you kidding? - another time I was expecting a package and my tracking number said it had been delivered. Went down to grab it, and they can't find it, which wasn't a big deal. What did bother me was that they said "oh it probably got returned" I'm sorry, it got returned after 4 days, and no notice? Thankfully it was indeed "hiding" in a roommate's po box, but I have just struggled in getting anything accomplished through this site. -edit: the people who work there try their hardest to be helpful, but there is only so much they can do without any organization. read more

I have lived in this area many many years and the employees are extremely slow. It's as if they know they are locked into the job so they just don't care. They seem to forget that without those people in lines they would quite possibly not have a job. And phone service is terrible. The last time I tried to call this post office I called for 2 hours repeatedly and they simply would not answer. My most recent frustration was in this last week when they held a letter of time sensitive information so long that I lost health benefits due to info not being returned by the deadline date. We haven't got mail picked up or delivered for over a week we had to call superiors that actually had to turn them in to authorities because this post office will not answer their phones. Passport applications and photos are done by appointment only. Appointments must be made by calling a certain number during a certain time period of the day. Try dialing that number during that time frame. The line is busy 100% of the time. Do you really think there are that many people calling the post office, or do they just take the phone off the hook? read more

I simply don't understand how this location can continue to function this poorly (see other reviews in addition to mine). When it's, essentially, the only location to drop off packages in the area, apply for a passport, etc., something should be done to ensure they're properly staffed to deliver the services others get. My biggest beef is with shipping. If your stated pickup time for the entire post office is 3:45 p.m. and I drop off packages at 2 p.m., why don't my shipments get scanned and start moving until the next day?!?! I'm not paying for Priority Mail because I like paying more, I'm paying for it so it get to a location quickly. It makes no sense to me that it takes 4 or 5 days sometimes, to ship a package from here to a neighboring state, when I could have driven there and back at least 4 times in the same amount of time. The staff members are friendly, but clearly the office is severely lacking in the number of staff, or SOMETHING else is wrong, as my issue with packages is just one of several issues I've had to deal with (returning correctly addressed mail -- who knows why?, taking three weeks to get me a key to my own mailbox). They have messed up our priority mail signature required so many times. They never bother to come to door just drop the little card an away they go. Been living in same place now gong on 4 years and they still deliver mail for people who lived here years and years ago..My wife depends on them to get meds from VA..We have to always go pick it up because they never even bother to try to deliver to the house. In addition they stole her meds one time..Never heard back from them about that other than they were looking into it. Lazy carrier. Half the time not even bothering to close the mailbox so mail is soaking wet. Poorest mail service I have experienced anywhere as far as carries go. Joe Atwood (claims to be a supervisor) who works at the Albany Oregon Post Office zipcode 97321 either stole or has knowledge of theft of my package. I mailed legal documents and a check to the Linn County Sheriff's Department in Oregon (PO Box 100) and they did not receive the item. I called USPS customer service and they had Albany Oregon Post Office call me back. Joe Atwood called me and informed me that someone had signed for the package. I informed him that the package was not signature required and no one signed for it. He then told me that the customer had picked it up. I informed him that it was delivered to a PO box and there was no reason for the customer to come to the counter to collect the package. He then claimed that the customer had taken the package on Sunday. I informed him that the sheriff's department is not open on Sunday and no one would've been authorized to take the package. He then stated that "...the cops must've stolen it and not told you." I told Joe Atwood that the scenario is very unlikely and this phone conversation as been very suspicious and I would like to speak to the postmaster. He then lowered his voice and claimed that the postmaster was away for a week and I would be unable to speak to him until his return but he would leave my number. I told him that I expect that phone call soon and we both ended the conversation. I waited a week to speak with the postmaster and no call. It turns out that the postmaster was there and was available to speak to me when I was speaking with Joe Atwood. I am contacting USPS law enforcement about this unusual behavior. I am writing this review to let possible future and current employers know what kind of person Joe Atwood at the US Post Office is. Today the phone was busy (I suspect they take it off the hook) for a solid 2 hours from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. This is not acceptable and not the first time this has happened. In fact, this was my experience the entire 11 years I lived in Albany. I don't think I ever once got through on the phone and always had to go to the PO in person to resolve any issues. I now live in Dallas so not really an option to run into Albany to ask why my mail is still being delivered to my old address and forwarded to me by the new resident. I filed a change of address on line and received confirmation that the update was received so there is no reason for the mail to continue being delivered to the old address a month later. read more
