The moment that pushed me over the edge was watching an older Black woman continue to wait while a white customer walked in and was immediately seated for a pedicure. I spoke up because I refuse to stay silent when I see something that I believe is wrong. I even asked the older woman if she noticed what had happened, and she said she hadn't. I told her not to let anyone make her feel like her time and money don't matter. This experience left me feeling like Black customers were treated as less of a priority, and I find that unacceptable. Whether anyone else agrees or not, that's exactly how I experienced it. Black people, our money has value. Stop spending your hard-earned money where you don't feel respected, appreciated, or prioritized. There are plenty of Black-owned and Black-operated nail salons that deserve our support. Keep your dollars in businesses that value you. I will never spend another dollar at Avalon Nails.
