After my friend introduced me to Uroko, I've been going nonstop. It's a build your own poke bowl and they are generous with their toppings! I usually get the three scoop bowl with salmon, spicy salmon, and spicy tuna. Sometimes I get a scoop of unagi/eel; it's a newer addition to their menu. You get to pick your base, then you select six different sides, no repeats. I always go for their crab meat, spicy crab meat, seaweed salad, avocado, cucumber, and onion. There's also a good selection of sauces and toppings you can choose. There's usually a line during peak hours, especially at lunch, but the service is quick. If you asked me to review 2 days ago, I would have given this place 5 stars, no hesitation. But after yesterday's dinner, we left feeling disappointed. We've been to this location a few times and it's our favorite in the area. For $16 for 2 scoops or $18 for 3 scoops, it's not cheap, but worth it if you're getting heaping scoops of fish like with other poke places we'd visit. We'd come here often because we never felt like the staff would skimp out... until last night. Last night, we dined with 2 others and all of us have been to Uroko before (this location or another). The scoops of fish and all toppings we got were exactly leveled and some even less than leveled. This was NOT the experience we were used to here or at their other locations. I hesitate going back because of the inconsistency with how much you're getting, highly dependent on the staff. One of the staff seemed new, and the person training them also was stingy with scoop portioning. The 2 stars are for the upgrade from paper to-go bowls to metal wide bowls if you dine in + nice air conditioning and clean seating. Otherwise, this place is a hit or miss. I had tried the Costa Mesa location, but was happy to find out they have opened another location so I went to try it out. I got the double scoop, double salmon bowl with white rice and all the fixings. I would have to say this is one of the better quality and priced poke bowls in OC! I came here STARVING after a long day of work and got a bowl with 3 scoops. The good: there's a marinated fish option and good topping choices. I always appreciate places with lots of vegetables. The bad: my fish was fishy smelling/tasting. I was surprised because the restaurant was freezing and I ate there so the food wasn't siting out or anything. Something was also bitter? I couldn't tell if it was the Ponzu sauce or if something went wrong with the roasted corn, but I kept running into it every few bites. I think my experience was an outlier based on the reviews, but still disappointing. Also skip the mochi in the freezer: I don't think people buy from it often so your mochi could be frozen to a point it's lost its chewy texture from something like freezer burn. read more

My first few experiences weren't great as the workers here are rude & get annoyed easily, which didn't feel very welcoming especially for my first time. They're also pretty skimpy with their scoops of fish for no reason lol. Honestly, I've had much better experiences with getting their food delivered or their Costa Mesa location. Much like the one in Costa Mesa, you get in line to order your base, proteins, add-ins, sauces, and toppings. I got salmon, ahi, and yellowtail on a bed of half brown rice and half salad. The fish chunks are quite small, but I'm just happy when they don't skimp on the size of the scoops. I went with mild Uroko Original sauce and asked for spicy mayo on the side. The combo with savory flavors and varying textures made for a pretty satisfying meal. All of the ladies working there were efficient and friendly. I appreciated seeing that they were on top of restroom maintenance, too. There are tables inside and outside, and a clean water dispenser with cups and napkins are provided. Free parking is available in the plaza, and a nearby spot was easy to snag on a weekday afternoon. PLEASE FIX YOUR STAFF'S ATTITUDE! Even though there are many poke restaurants near my home, I always choose Uroko because I've had good experiences at three different locations. This branch is the closest to my house, so I expected the same level of service. Unfortunately, today's experience was extremely disappointing. My order was made incorrectly, so I had to drive all the way back to the restaurant. In total, I spent about 50 minutes driving just to get a poke bowl. Mistakes happen, and I understand that. What I cannot accept is how your staff handled the situation. The employee with white hair, who gave me the wrong order, simply placed the corrected order on the counter and practically tossed it toward me--without a single apology or any sign that she cared about the inconvenience she caused. No "I'm sorry," no acknowledgment, nothing. I returned to the store at 4:11 PM on July 21, if you'd like to identify the employee. Customer service is just as important as food quality. There are plenty of poke restaurants in Orange County, and experiences like this are exactly why customers choose to spend their money elsewhere. One employee's poor attitude can seriously damage your business's reputation. I felt completely disrespected. A lot of my local poke places close around 7/8 PM so if I want to get late night poke, this would be the perfect spot to hang out and chill. Uroko has been our only to-go spot before this location even opened, we are here for the portion, the freshness, the flavor, and the ambiance. The guy getting us the rice and the toppings was so efficient, he was quick with the job while remaining a smile on his face - keeping his cool while doing God's work. So then she told the other girl to work on the drinks while the guys work on our Poke bowls. (Drinks are also amazing as usual!) I am so disappointed with how Uroko has fallen off. This place used to be my favorite place to go when I wanted a quick, reliably delicious meal. The servings were the best out of all OC poke places. In the past 2 weeks, I have consistently received the most mind-bendingly terrible service from the employees. It's only the new employees. It is VERY clear that they hate their jobs, and for that, I am genuinely sorry. They seem to be operating under the idea that if they are rude enough to the customers, less will come in, therefore reducing the work that they have to do. I am sad to report that this strategy is finding great success. I crave Uroko poke, but not enough to get over the horrible service that I will receive there. Guess I have to go somewhere else now. This new focus on chipotle-ing the serving sizes is the most foolish business decision Uroko could have made. If you talk to anyone about Uroko (at least Uroko in the past), they will tell you it's expensive but the serving sizes are good enough of justify the price. Not anymore! They skimp you on everything now. Genuinely, the portion sizes have been cut in half. Don't waste your money on Uroko. I enjoyed how they have the option for indoor and outdoor seating. Very clean and ingredients taste quite fresh. I contemplated on getting avocado but it looked like it had aged from being out haha. All the classic selections but you can customize the base up to 3 (!) different things, i chose broccoli and rice. The broccoli was perfectly steamed and still crunchy, the rice was fluffy and oh so good. You can get sauces on the side, toppings like ginger and wasabi on the side, and everything is super fresh. My go-to for most non-Hawaiian style poke spots is usually white rice, salmon, tuna, yellowtail (if available), shrimp, and octopus with most of the greens and light dry toppings and regular/heavy sauce (depending on the place's options) For my first time at Uroko, I was pretty indifferent about it. The place is clean for the most part and service is as regular as most places. I got a large bowl (5 scoops) which came out to about $20-25. Nothing against the freshness or anything but I just didn't feel ecstatic about the sauce choices. BUT as I started going more, I realized that Uroko was a good choice and satisfied my hunger. HOWEVER, some good things don't last. I got my order today and I'm so upset because I really do like to keep my mouth shut. But with my experience in working at a poke shop, I couldn't let this slide and well, I found a bone in my salmon. NOOOO. Food safety issue! I know... I kinda liked how they put the calories next to the food item it made it easier for calorie counting.
