Our favorite is the Mashed Potato Pie. Just an amazing combo of actual mashed potato, bacon and cheese. So good. Kids always get a pepperoni. We got a large and it was HUGE! I like URBN. I've been eating URBN pizza since the beginning when there was one location in Vista and it was owned by a guy named Joe who went to the east coast to study pizza. He copied the white brick, coal-fired oven from my favorite pizza joint, Pepe's, which is located in Little Italy on Wooster street in New Haven, CT not far from Yale University. Frank Pepe's pizza has been around since 1929. My point is, URBN pizza has good intent behind it. That said- save yourself the disappointment and do not order a Caesar salad. By far the most heinous excuse for a salad. Dressing tastes like sour Mayo and the lettuce is wilted and brown. I threw it away. Pizza is ok though. 4 stars is for the pizza. Such a trusty spot on the ever-evolving strip of DT Encinitas. Do yourself a favor and come during off hours. 4pm is perfect. Food & service is fast, plus you're able to secure yourself a relaxing spot by one of their pop-up windows. I love the salads here, so so much. Dressing comes a little heavy, but other than that they're really perfect. Ingredients are super fresh, and I love the perfectly ripe pears for the URBN Salad. URBN is a thin-crust lover's dream. I recommend going a little lighter on toppings so that the thin crust isn't weighed down too much. The dough and red sauce are very complimentary together, and everything tastes extremely fresh. This isn't cheap pizza so don't expect cheap prices. Plus you're eating in one of the coolest lil neighborhoods of north county, so just swipe your card and enjoy it. I'm giving this location 2 Stars, because they've got excellent potential and great location situated with nearby parking on HWY 101. Here's my review of their establishment: Overall - DISAPPOINTED PROS LOCATION: The location is nice with a HWY 101 Vibe, and pulls you in with the sizzle of a "coal fired" pizza. They have a single restroom and adequate dining area - both clean. BEVERAGES: Lots of craft beverages for the discriminating traveler. PRESENTATION: The pizzas look amazing and tempts your taste buds. STAFF: They were courteous, attentive, and engaging through the entire "order to table" process. CONS CRUST: The oblong pizza crust was cracker style, burnt intermittently (sides and bottom), thin, and cut oddly into rectangular slices that you can't fold (so not NY Style or Neapolitan). It was virtually flavorless - no herbs, cheeses, butter, or anything that is worthy of the title "Craft". SAUCE: The sauce had a mealy texture akin to eating old tomatoes. SEASONINING: None in the crust, sauce, or toppings. Pizzas, generally speaking, has a traditional profile: Salt, Pepper, Oregano, Basil, Garlic, Thyme, Marjoram, Cilantro, Red Pepper Flakes, and Rosemary. This can vary, but it cannot be completely absent either. TOPPINGS: After cooling off, slid off the pizza! Pizza sauce, crust, and toppings should enter your mouth and stay together. Craft pizza toppings should be bursting with flavors, colors, and aromas that justify paying more for the pizza. The vegetables were not roasted, which I find baffling, since it was coal-fired. And, the toppings had no flavor, but appeared fresh before cooking. CONCLUSION: The owners should strongly consider getting a chef, who can better execute and instruct staff on BASIC pizza making, because it is an art and science. When you put "Craft" in your title, you are delivering on flavor, texture, and aroma complexities transcending the ordinary dining experience one would have at home or get from a commercial location. Commercial meaning chains like Round Table, Lamppost, and even Costco, who unfortunately outperformed this location at a lower price point. Remember, executing well on a truly craft pizza will draw pizza enthusiast who will drive business to their front doors. You have much more to offer. I have fond memories of going to Urbn in Vista on the regular and enjoying the crispy, charred thin crust pizza with tasty toppings. I've been to the one in North Park also many years ago. However, this place has jumped the shark. We ordered the Margherita pizza for the kids and got the pepperoni, pepper-chino pizza, and an Italian chopped salad. First indication this place was no good, it was completely empty on a Saturday night and our first option at Buona Forchetta was packed with a 45 min wait. We considered a 10 min drive to Solana Beaches Pizza Port, but it was getting late for the kiddos. Bad decision based on laziness. The pizza was totally soggy. Need to bake for at least a few more minutes. The dough quality has really gone downhill. No longer soft and tasty, it was thin and wet. The pepper-chino pizza was way too acidic and salty. Terrible flavor profile. Much better off at the Costco food court honestly. The hazy ipa was good, and the chopped salad was better. Never going back again though since the bread quality has diminished so much. But we saved a few minutes on the commute and wait times though. Quick seating for a large and noisy group. You get what you are willing to wait for. What you pay for is not what you get here though. Way overpriced for a sloppy wet cardboard pizza that fails on many levels. What irks me is that there is so much better pizza here in every block. Dominos, Costco, even store bought is preferred to this mess. RIP Urbn. New Haven would repudiate you. read more

Urbn caught my eye on a Presidents day afternoon out with mom. Admittedly, Urbn was not our first choice, but "Death By Tequila" was closed for the holiday. The concept of coal fired pizza sounded fun, and their welcoming restaurant front drew us in. We strolled in to the restaurant and grabbed a menu, paroozing over the pizza's priced 17-35$. We settled on the large sausage and peppers pizza and snagged a seat near the window. Pizza is a hard art to master, everyone has their own unique take. Urbn's unique take comes in the form of Neapolitan/New York style. The large came out a sprawling 20+ inches, too much for my mother and I... but I was anxious to dive in. Upon presentation, a few things immediately stuck out. Partial char on 1/4th to 1/2 of the pizza, lakes of grease on the pizza, and slices that couldn't hold their own... even with the famous Brooklyn Pizza fold. Slices flopped harder than James Harden taking taking an NBA charge. Ingredients dribbled off into a pile of broken dreams. I very much try to avoid utensils for pizza... as, what is the point? But when I had a pile of cheese, sausage, peppers and marinara sitting in a piece of wax paper, I had limited options. I might have well been eating doughy pasta. How they both managed to char and undercook a pizza is baffling. The saving grace was that everything tasted fine. But very disappointing from a pizza aspect. Brought more than half of it home in a box, hoping I could salvage it in the oven... no dice. It ended up in the trash. While entertaining some friends and showing them the gorgeous hwy 101's coast we decided to stop for a bite. As an avid URBN regular in downtown and north park I knew the Encinitas location wouldn't disappoint. With a friend who have allergies to gluten and are also vegan I called ahead to make sure they had choices for us all to try. In luck they did. With the pandemic they transformed some of the street parking into an outdoor patio with 3 large picnic tables and a few small tables to accommodate all guests it's a great alternative to enjoy the outdoors. Out of the three locations this is the smallest, which is not at all a reflection to the quality of food. With a constant line of pizza lovers you can see it's a favorite in all towns. With a large group of 9 the staff was accommodating with pushing tables together or asking those guests of two using the larger tables to shift to help with our group seating. Although, we called ahead to ensure they actually had vegan cheeses we were really bummed the vegan, gluten free pizza that had red onion, red sauce, artichokes, mushrooms and arugula had no vegan cheese. I think with the addition of the vegan cheese the pizza could be epic. We also ordered a gluten free mashed potato pizza with vegan cheese and no bacon. Even as a vegan pizza the mashed potato pizza never gets old or disappoints. **Tip: Gluten free pizzas only come is a small pie and are additional $6 which makes this small gluten free pizza about the same price as a large. You can add more toppings for extra as well. The smalls were much larger then we anticipated. Although, I didn't take any pictures of the vegan pies because they had a added bacon on the first pie by accident so we didn't get ours an hour later after our whole table was done so we were starving. However, I did take a picture of the large margarita and as you can see it compared to the width of our table. It was huge and the small was half the size! The crust is thin and crispy perfect for stuffing your face without feeling super guilty that you have a secret fat kid inside you! With some wine and beer we had a wonderful time catching up. If you happen to go around 5-7 they were pretty busy so if you are hungry I would order ahead or expect to be waiting. read more

We shared a large pizza, half margherita and the other half was of bbq chicken. She had something off tap. And I had a canned ginger ale. The crust was amazingly crisp and thin! I inquired for a white pie just because I didn't want to over power the pizza with tomatoes (just a personal preference). I love that they use coals to cook their pizzas. We have always enjoyed the Urbn Pizza in Vista pre COVID. However, we recently went to the Encinitas location and we're very disappointed. Everywhere on PCH, restaurants seemed to be hopping but there were only two parties in Urbn. It was very quiet. We ordered the chicken bbq and the Gouda chicken spinach pizza. We were very disappointed that the crust was very soggy though it had a char on the bottom. The whole reason that I wanted wood fire baked pizza was for the crispier crust. The pizza has the thinnest crust you've ever seen, but they make up for it by providing a bigger pizza than most other places. Went here for lunch at the recommendation of my husband's coworker. When we arrived, there weren't very many customers so we had our choice of where to sit. We chose outdoor seating and they brought our food out to us. We ordered the Urbn salad which was delicious. It's a perfect combo of greens, pear, and walnut brittle. Very tasty, not overdressed. When our pizza came out, we were asked how the salad was, which I always really appreciate when I eat out. It made us feel welcome and like it actually mattered whether we enjoyed the food. The pizza was ok. We had half sausage and half mushroom. They were nice enough to let us know that half toppings was even an option. The crust is thin, not super sturdy but tasty. They didn't over-sauce or over-cheese the pizza which we really liked. A couple of disappointing notes because I pride myself on leaving honest reviews: the bathroom floor was very sticky and there was complimentary water but it was lukewarm (and it was really hot out that day). Those are literally the only complaints I had.
