Amazing - went here with my fiance. It's the perfect ambiance - nice-casual, great music & lightning, lovely little patio. You can thank me later. We were here for dinner on a Sunday. There's enough parking right in front of the restaurant. The ambiance was so great with festive vibes and a Christmas tree right in the middle. Several tables were occupied, but there was enough room for us and we were seated right away indoors. The owner of the restaurant is a friendly lady who handed out our menus and took our orders shortly after. The daily special soup was Minestrone. It was perfect for our chilly night, packed with veggies. Next, we had Spaghetti Bolognese -- it was so light for a pasta with irresistible sauce and noodles. UPDATE: I'm modifying my review (I had previously given an updated review that was a little more negative), as perhaps I was a little too harsh, and we want to support this restaurant. What I will say is simply this: the last pizza we had had too much cheese (very unlike what you'd get on a pizza in Italy, but more like what you typically get in the US - perhaps American customers are simply demanding more and they are responding, which is natural). (By the way, this is not to say they don't make good pizza - compared to just about anything around here, they are superior. It's just that I noticed the last time was not like their usual standard, and perhaps this is not fair, as anything can happen any single time. New owners and a much more classy and cozy design but annoying music as most pizza places seem to have. Very attentive staff. A much bigger menu including pasta dishes too. Pizza was 5 star for us and was. New York style. We're from that area and love NY style. Delicious sauce, cooked perfectly and correct proportions- not cheese overloaded. Meatballs were good, about a four but have nothing on Rosanna's. They really fell down in the eggplant parm sandwich. Huge portion and the bread was amazing and unwieldy to actually eat but I can deal with that. The eggplant itself tasted smokey or burnt-- it was not fried in olive oil in the typical Southern Italy way. It's also not breaded like Italian American style but that's fine. The smoky taste was really odd. But what killed it was the salt level. It was inedible. Everything else there leaned salty but this was just too much. Neither of us could eat it. Eggplant parm is one of my yardstick items when I go to these restaurants too. Decent assortment of alcoholic beverages. Next time we'll try the pasta and salads. But for now I can only recommend the pizza. read more

I think this is a very good italian spot that is underrated due to its location. It sits within a very popular series of food plazas as you drive along el camino real, but it's particularly tucked away and hard to see. Perhaps that's part of its charm. As for the food itself, i am of two minds: on the one hand I really like the pizza- but I hope the staff is encouraged to keep making them as **** italian as possible ****. We have a lot of pizza places in the area that serve good thick crust, thick cheese american pizza. Not nearly as many that as truly italian in make. I think thin crust, almost wet like buona forchetta. I've had it both ways here but hopefully they'll get their consistency down. Either way the food and vibes were excellent. read more

This small business has big flavor when it comes to pizza. The pizzas were perfectly cooked and the toppings were fresh and delicious. Searched for "pasta near me" while cruising through Encinitas, and this spot came up first. Only 7 minutes from La Costa Resort, so I gave it a try. The entrance is a little tricky (shared with Alice and Rubio--the restaurant is tucked behind them), but once inside I ordered the calamari fritte and chicken parmesan sandwich. The calamari was fried in fresh, clean oil--big win since I can always taste old oil. The chicken sandwich was crispy, perfectly toasted, and they even offered extra parmesan cheese. I was tempted to get pasta (been craving it!) but the two dishes filled me up--so pasta will have to wait for next time. For dessert, I went with the ricotta pistachio cheesecake (if I got the name right) and it was the perfect way to complete my evening. My wife and I celebrated her birthday at this restaurant yesterday I had been to the location once before when it was owned by the previous owners. I'm happy to say the food was wonderful, even beyond what I remembered. We started off with grilled artichokes and then had the Parma pizza. The ingredients are so fresh at this restaurant. Definitely 5 stars here! I finally came to check out this Italian ristorante. Right from the get-go. I was greeted by the owner, a very young and friendly person, and also the staff. We decided to go to Forchettina because we hoped it would be as good as its predecessor restaurant, Forchettaboutit, was in its heyday. Forchettina is actually much better in every way! As other recent reviews have noted, the owners are present, passionate and friendly. Our server tonight was co-owner, Georgia, born and grown up in Italy (despite sounding like a southern U.S. state). The food was excellent: we started with a cheese pizza that was generous with tasty cheese and nice tomato sauce; perfect homemade gnocchi with a delicious pesto sauce and eggplant parmigiana with wonderful red sauce. We finished with delectable cannoli. Finally, the new owners have done some interior upgrades that elevate the ambiance of the restaurant from what used to be too much of a fast food pizza place. What a great casual italian eatery in Encinitas. We started with calamari fritti which was very light and delicious. We also got half hawaiian and half bronx pizza (cause i couldn't decide) but love that it's thin crust. I had the special that night which was scallop risotto and to me, the dish was a little salty. We ended our night with dessert and I opted for their tiramisu cause i can never resist tiramisu when it's on the menu. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.
