What a lovely, open airy place to have delicious and healthy food with a WONDERFUL wait staff. This place seems like it's always busy, and I can attest why. The food and service is exceptional, and I feel the pricing is fair too. The desserts/cakes they have ready to go, look amazing! And I can't wait to return to try them. I ordered the Grilled Grass fed Steak plate with Brussels sprouts (delish) Mac and cheese (salt to taste) with garlic bread - and a Chicken plate. Both are delicious. Very tasty. I truly appreciate management reaching out to us after a bad experience at this Carlsbad location. They provided a gift card so we could give them another opportunity to make it better. We returned to this same Carlsbad location using a gift card provided after our previous bad experience on 4/9/26. Unfortunately our visit last night 4/18/26 at 8:45pm was also disappointing. From the moment we arrived, the experience felt off. The cashier was extremely rude, she didn't greet us, avoided basic customer interaction, and continued talking to another employee while staring at us as we waited to be helped. It felt uncomfortable and unwelcoming. At first, I thought there might be a language barrier, but it became clear it was simply her attitude. Because of this, we were hesitant to even ask questions about the menu or clarify anything about the dishes. The drink machine had already been turned off, which made us unsure about ordering drinks at all and added to the overall lack of service. When the food came out, it was another letdown. The plates themselves were hot, yet the food was cold--particularly the bass fish my daughter ordered. For a restaurant that promotes made-from-scratch food, no shortcuts, and fresh preparation throughout the day, this was extremely concerning as it's untrue at this location at least. The temperature and presentation did not reflect food being freshly prepared, especially for a fish dish that takes merely minutes to prepare. While the flavor itself was acceptable, the overall quality and execution did not align with the standard the brand represents. My beef stew was also barely reheated, and did not taste the same as it did previously, only the mashed potatoes were hot and properly prepared. Overall, this visit confirmed our concerns from the first experience. I truly appreciate management trying to make it right; however, at this point it appears the issue is with staff and overall execution at this Carlsbad location. The food did not have the same genuine quality or taste we experienced at the Mission Valley location. Instead, it felt more like a cut-corner, microwaved processed fast-food experience rather than the fresh, authentic standard the brand promotes. This location, at least, does not appear to meet its own stated standards. After two poor experiences, we will not be returning. read more

I got the Buffalo Chicken Tender Caesar Salad Wrap. I always have to ask for no tomatoes, with every Caesar salad I get. I would suggest taking out the croutons and tomatoes from this particular dish because just the cheese, buffalo chicken tenders and salad are incredibly flavorful and crunchy on its own. Late Sat night my family was driving back from San Diego to OC and wanted a healthy family style place, and @urbanplates popped up in my search. We went to the Carlsbad location and Dahlia and Leticia treated us like family! The food was wonderful- everything we want in a restaurant! We don't eat out often so when we do we want healthy, yummy, and value and you guys nailed all 3! The fired chicken was perfectly battered, moist & crispy not too heavy and the beef mushroom bowl with mashed potatoes was amazing. The cookie was as good as it gets but that mango tart is out of this world good!!! On top of that the kind service these ladies gave us at the end of a long day, showing patience while we ate after close, is what is going to keep us coming back! Our first time at this UP location and ordering was easy, parking a bit full due to the Christmas shopping. Glad there was a parking attendant managing the full lot. I ordered a mixed beet salad. The presentation was pretty and overall it was a delicious salad, colorful. My boyfriend ordered the chicken sandwich the food was a scale at 4 (from 1-10). Why 4 because the fried and chicken and fries were not hot, the batter was not seasoned, They only offer red garlic aioli and ketchup for a side sauce. Basically, this plate was very barren and not appetizing. He was highly disappointed. The service, questionable because we didn't have any. The cashier was not connecting with her clientele and Our server lacked warmth as she served us our dishes. Overall, I was very surprised because my experiences with UP has been wirh a positive note. It was first time for my son , daughter in law and my grandson, visiting us from the East Coast to stop at Urban Plates. We like the setup here - order at the counter, pay and then wait for the food to be delivered to your table. Our orders were very similar - 2 Blackened Salmon Plates with mashed potatoes and 2 Avocado Cheeseburgers one with house salad, another with fries and one Kids Classic Tender Plate with fries and Apple Juice. Everybody enjoyed the food, no complaints here. One star off - my bosses salad dressing sub by honey mustard didn't arrive as requested. Also , another issue is Surcharge 3% on the bill, was not mentioned during payment with a credit card (I assume it's for credit card usage). I would probably still payed with a credit card, but at least you have to let me know. We will be back. read more

I know where to get amazing food from scratch...Urban Plates. Urban Plates (UP) is located in THE Forum Carlsbad. It's my favorite place to go to for lunch and dinner. I quickly became an UP fan when I found out all meals use quality ingredients freshly delivered from local farms/producers that are responsibly sourced. Who doesn't love fresh food!? There are so many yummy wholesome options on their chef-driven seasonal menu that you'll crave for. They're able to tailor to different dietary needs which is a plus nowadays. If you're in the area, you must step right up to UP for a relaxing, farm-to-table dining experience with a good vibe and friendly quick hospitality. My kids LOVE the mac n cheese here. It's super soft and cheesy and they'll eat all of the string broccoli as well. My go to here is the chimichurri steak and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes is sooooo creamy also. Its super convenient to place an order on the app before coming in and it's readily available for pickup. Food is excellent, never have we had a problem with our food. The reason for my bad review is the service we received for lunch on Saturday, May 31st. I had lunch with my mother, aunt and son. Our ordering process went smooth and cashier was nice, she even explained things in Spanish for my mom therefore I gave her a generous tip. My problem was that most tables were dirty so my mom went back to ask same cashier (mind you she wasn't busy) if she could have someone to clean our table. She in turn gave my mom the rag and my mom came over and cleaned our table. My aunt and I couldn't believe the audacity. Prices are decent here, especially for the quality of food that you get. I ordered a 1/2 steak sandwich and seafood chowder soup. It wasn't huge, but the 1/2 of steak sandwich had a generous portion of meat that was tender and cooked perfectly. The seafood chowder was not overly thick and had quite a bit of seafood in it. Some of our group were disappointed because the sandwiches didn't come with lettuce, tomato, etc., I didn't mind. I really enjoy going here, we have the plate pass so getting a discount every time we go is great. We usually get either the burger, the shrimp, or the salmon those are our top choices. I enjoy that they have deal menu, a lot more budget friendly and healthier than fast food locations, my one complaints are not being able to get refills my self on my drink, but having to walk up to the front cashier for assistance because at times there is a long line, and also this location it self can use more TMI in the restroom. However location, lots of parking, and service is always great so we will keep going but not using the restroom there :). read more

One star for the food but NO star for the service! I've been ordering my sides and desserts to Urban Plates and never had a problem until this time, we had a very bad experience with Carlsbad location. We normally order at La Jolla and Del Mar location but since we moved to Escondido area we ordered our sides and desserts for our Thanksgiving lunch at Carlsbad location. My husband picked up the order on time at 11am it about 25 miles away. He came home the pies are missing. So he didn't have any choice but to go back and drive 25 miles to pick up the pies. I ordered our old time favorite Mango Tart, apple pie and pumpkin pie. He came home with 3 pies without the Mango Tart! We got 2 apples pies and a pumpkin pie. This is so frustrating for the second time the orders are wrong. So my husband drove at least total of 100 miles just picking up the wrong orders so freakin ridiculous and it's on Thanksgiving day. I called the store and spoke to the gal who helped my husband at the store she told me she swears she put the Mango Tart on the bag and I told her I don't think so. I asked to put the manager on the phone and guess what she put me on hold for a long time. I had to hang up since we have to start our Thanksgiving prayer with my family. After an hour ago I had to call the store. They finally put the manager on the phone and she told me to refund all the desserts. Mind you she didn't even apologize and she just slapped me with refunds. She told me 4 to 7 days it will credit to my account and guess what at this moment no credit was made! So now I have to call again to follow up! This is really ridiculously frustrating. I won't ever never order to this location again. Service is terrible and awful. People are so rude and mean. Tonight, I was in town with my husband and I suggested we go. He'd never been. After our delicious meal, he is all for going back! Everything I've tried has been tasty. Today I had the beef and mushroom bowl over mashed potatoes. Pure comfort food! My husband had a lighter bowl with beets, avocado, and other fresh ingredients. He'll have that one again. Service was great also. Helpful and friendly. The tables are natural wood, fun chairs and benches. Comfortable. Get there early to get a seat at the outdoor fire table.
