WHAT AN ADVENTURE!!! Booked this tour the night prior thinking it sounded fun. Once there I realized I had NOT rode a bicycle in YEARS (like a lot of years!)!! Lucky for me, Bob and Michelle were the best tour guides and assisted me with my tantrum. 2 bikes and about 10 "I give ups" later... we were onto one of the best experiences (on a bike) I've ever had. We enjoyed the city, it's beautiful architecture, along with detailed historical facts! Ken was our third guide who recommended we take the harbor tours to have a different experience. All 3 guides were fun, helpful, and accommodating! Highly recommend this tour when in Boston. From here on no more bus tours for us! ***I also got the most improved rider sticker. Yes everyone knew I was going to potentially crash, fall off my bike, or run over someone. Glad to say none of that happened, whoever I did almost run over two geese and an elderly lady. The owners of this place is extremely rude and has an attitude with everyone I've seen it with my own eyes I couldn't believe it and I had a big rental booked for 25 people and he wouldn't even give me a deal then come to find out the day I was supposed to pick up the bikes with everyone it was torrential Rain storm and it was going to be all day long so I spoke with them and they said that there is nothin that they could do to reimburse a rain check for another day he said nope all rentals and sales are final no matter what the weather is and I did not know that so we lost out on several thousands of dollars and they're not care to even show any kind of remorse that was my experience so if you're considering booking a trip with a bunch of people and renting bikes from his store please think twice overpriced and the very rude. read more

Rented high quality bikes for $50 for 24 hour time. Bikes were light and well maintained hybrid bikes. The 24-hour rental allowed us the ride 40 mile "Emerald Necklace Trail" around the perimeter of Boston green spaces. This included the Waterfront trail, river parks and even some historic cemeteries. To be honest, I do not think we were supposed to ride in the cemeteries but the route we picked on "Ride with GPS app (not from the bike rental) guided us through the cemeteries and I was not confident we could catch the right trail again if we diverted. With the24-hour rental I was even able to get up at 6:30 AM the next morning to ride the Charles River trail and to Cambridge at sunrise. Biking Trails around Boston give a lot of options around town and the natural parks. The Charles River trail on the Boston side is especially nice! read more

What a wonderful place! From the moment I arrived the staff were waiting with bikes ready, water & restrooms offered, and personal helmet fitting! They were very organized and efficient in helping the whole group depart on time. Not to mention they were all handsome, over-fifty men assisting us! (married, alas!) So, women, this is the bike tour for you! I was part of a group who enjoyed a city tour with bike leader Gary. I had never been to Boston nor had most of the riders in my group which included: a businessman from London who had just ridden a leg of the tour de France, an overseas educator from Nigeria, a local college student, a young couple from New Orleans, and two medical students and myself, here for work from Texas. So not only was it a bike tour it was a really fun social encounter. In three hours I was able to visit areas of Boston I could never explored on my own - nor would I even have known about them! Gary's knowledge of history, architecture, art and even city planning made it so fun. After the Gary's enthusiasm for the area I found myself wanting to move here! That probably won't happen, but now I know Boston is a fun place to return to, with so many areas to explore further, and I can't wait to return! Haven't had my bike out in a while so I called to see if they were open due to Corona Virus Shutdown and Alex (I think) answered. He was polite and told me everything I needed to know to get my bike tuned up. I drove in, and walked up to mythe front entrance with my bike. They had me fill out a form with what I was looking to have done and then also talked to me about the process. Very easy and all of the staff were very polite and friendly. Got a call within less than 24 hours saying my bike was ready and I can come pick it up. I went down and got it. This was my 3rd time doing a bike tour with Urban AdvenTours. I live in California but often vacation on the Cape and Boston. This is one of my top activities when visiting The Town. (First is a Red Sox game). The ride is a fantastic way to see different pockets of the city. It's a fairly easy ride in the city streets and along quiet paths. We did the Boston City View bike tour and it was fantastic. Our guide, Austin, exceeded expectations in every way. He was very knowledgeable and friendly, and expertly navigated us through the city streets and bike trails. At no point did we feel unsafe. He also had a great voice for a tour guide. (seriously man you should have your own podcast). The Kona bikes were awesome and in great quality and the helmets fit well. All of the bikes have a bag for your jacket, phone, etc which was convenient. We saw Paul McCartney at Fenway Park later that night and would have had no idea he was in Boston had we not gone by Fenway on the tour. Overall we had so much fun and will definitely do another Urban Adventours bike tour when back in Boston. Could not recommend this more highly. read more

I've received really rude treatment when trying to rent bikes from here (another service offered other than the guided tours). We had to argue with the person staffing the rental desk when we arrived at the counter 15 full minutes before closing to let us actually rent the bikes. The person staffing the desk asked us to come back the next day even though we had called to say that we were coming, to confirm the closing time and after having taken a long T ride to get there.We had to argue about the closing time and were interrogated about when exactly we left, how long the ride was, why we still couldn't just come back the next day, and so on. All we wanted to do was rent a couple bikes! Should not be more than a 5 minute task to sign a couple forms and grab some bikes to take out, we were more than happy to adjust seat height or whatever ourselves and pick a couple out. Anyway, after 5 minutes of arguing the person staffing the counter acquiesced very begrudgingly, repeatedly reminding us about how they were closing so soon and how onerous it apparently is for them to continue doing their job and keeping the store open until the end of their shift. Additionally, the person refused to allow us to rent out a mountain bike with 24" wheels (close to, though slightly smaller than, a normal adult sized bike) to one of us, a smaller adult (under 5 feet, 90 pounds) because "kids' bikes are for kids". At this point we just wanted to get whatever bikes we could and agreed to go with the full adult size bikes for both, even though an adult that small riding a full sized bike, even with the seat lowered all the way, is potentially dangerously unsafe (the handlebars are too far, etc.) read more

We took the bike tour today (don't remember which one but it was just under 2.5 hours) and it was so wonderful! It was nice to be out in the town, on the streets, in the parks and landmarks. You could take it all in. The sights, the smells, the people, the culture and history of Boston. The team were top notch! Professional, safe, knowledgeable and fun. The best way to see Boston is by bike. I've lived in Boston my whole life and took an impromptu tour with Urban AdvenTours. This tour showed me the best parts of the city that I hadn't taken the time to appreciate before and also toured us around neighborhoods I know well and love. As we meandered, we stopped in scenic spots where the guides informed us of historical events, pop culture info, and other interesting tid-bits that gave the tour a personal touch. As we rolled on through the streets I found it was particularly enjoyable to converse with other riders to learn about where they were from and what they've done in Boston, although quietly enjoying the sites is perfectly fine, too. A bonus feature of this tour is that it starts and ends by the water front just walking distance from other major attractions. This bike tour was an excellent way to explore Boston! We met at the shop and were given bikes and helmets that fit our size. Each bike has a storage pouch on the front handle bars to store your belongings. The bikes all look the same, so it is easy to identify your group members. The bikes all appeared to be in good condition. No one in our group had bike issues during the trip. At the start of the tour, the two guides gave an introduction on basic safety and the planned route. Throughout the tour, one guide stayed in the front and the other stayed in the back to catch any stragglers. Our tour went through Little Italy. It was a little tricky to navigate through it because it is crowded and the streets are narrow and uneven. Then, we rode along the river, crossed over to Cambridge, rode along the river again, and then returned to the shop. In total, we rode over 16 miles in about 3 hours. The route was mostly flat with only a few moderate inclines. The toughest part of this tour was navigating the city without running into pedestrians or cars. This is not the best trip for someone who is not comfortable riding on the street. read more

I live in Boston and I LOVED this tour. My girlfriend and I took my out-of-town parents on the tour last weekend. (Thanks, Groupon, for an affordable family outing!) It was a blast. The bikes are top of the line, very nice. Little bag in front for your stuff, water bottle with nice cold water on the frame. Helmets, etc. Only thing I would knock is that the seat was not very cushy. I wish I'd worn some bike pants, because I was a bit bruised by the end. (And here I was, thinking I had enough natural padding!) The route was also good. Very few big hills, so there was no big issue with some riders in our group being way behind. The group rode at a pretty comfortable pace-- maybe 6-8 miles per hour? Not 100% sure, but I kept pace with a runner when we were by the esplanade, so that's where I'm estimating that from. There's plenty of stopping to talk and look at things, and I never felt particularly winded (aside from when we biked up Beacon Hill, but that was immediately followed by a stopping break). Tour guides were great. We were about 10 people (maybe a few less), and we had 3 guides. At first I felt that was overkill, but it meant that there was always someone nearby to ask questions of while we were riding, plus they had one person in front, one person in back, and one in the middle, so no one ever felt lonely or too fast/too slow. They also traded off talking about the stops, so you got a nice variance in that way as well. But most impressive to me was the route overall. You just won't get to see this kind of scope of Boston on a walking or bus tour. If you want to know the in and outs of the Freedom Trail, sure, go do that. But if you want to get a feel for the whole city, do this. I would especially recommend it to people moving to the area to get a lay of the land. They take you through so many different parts of Boston! Back Bay, Fenway, Beacon Hill, North End, Esplanade, Copley, etc. I've lived here for years and they showed me corners and pockets of things I'd never seen, or showed me them in a different light. All of us had a fabulous time, and I would recommend it to other folks in a heartbeat. read more

A great activity to get some exercise and history simultaneously! Yes, it will make your bum sore and your thighs burn, but that's nothing a little preparation can't help. I would definitely consider getting bike shorts if I did something like this again. Yeah, you can wait out the pain, but it's still something to consider, like others have said. I thought the ratio of biking to stopping was perfect. I am not a history buff, nor can I pretend to be interested in it, but I found that what we did cover in the tour was actually interesting, as well as being unusual tidbits you wouldn't expect to hear about. At least, I didn't. I hadn't been on a bike in a few years, but they took us at a good pace and didn't make me work terribly hard the whole time. I thought their location was easy to find, the guides were friendly and it was overall very fun. Recommended for tourists, for sure. read more

There are many ways to explore Boston: Duck Tours Freedom Trail Waiting indefinitely for a T(ransit)/ train ... and biking 12 miles in 2.5 hours with a guided AdvenTour. The Boy and I decided to go with the last option, and we were not disappointed. We signed up via Zerve online (keep in mind: no refunds, no changes) for the 2pm tour on a Saturday afternoon. They advise you to arrive 30 min early, but we were running late and got there at 1:55pm. (They had tried calling my cell also to see where we were.) No matter-- we rushed to strap on helmets, have our seats adjusted on the lightweight hybrid bikes, and then joined our group of 10 at the park across the way. The tour overall was beautiful, and moderately strenuous if you're not used to biking. There were a few hills (ahem, Beacon Hill) but the bikes were really easy to manage. Twelve miles of routes interspersed with stops, and sprinkled with Boston trivia, took us through BostonU, Fenway, Public park, a public garden, Government Center, Back Bay, Boston Commons, the South End, and parts of the North End. Pace was moderate, and biking through traffic was less scary than I imagined. All in all, this is a great way to tour the city and a nice "teaser" on our first real day in Boston. read more

I rented Urban AdvenTours bike through using my Go Boston Card. The staff was very friendly and easy-going, enough to throw jokes around (when returning my bike, I had a box of Mike's Pastry, and one of the staff was like "Oh you didn't have to bring me anything back"). Super laid back. Their bikes are in excellent condition and just be warned for short people, the bikes may be a little too high (though they say that that's how bikes are supposed to be). I am 5'5'' and when I sat on the seat, I was a little tip-toeing to touch the ground. My friend was 5'2'' and they gave her a smaller bike, and she was also tip-toeing as well. They do try to find the right size bike for you, so don't worry too much. As they say on their website, lock is given and helmet is optional. Also, they have a little pouch on the front to store your phone/camera/etc. Biking around Boston is perhaps the best choice I have made for my trip and the city is busy with cars and people, yet the bike lanes are available (in MOST areas). It definitely is a new experience, biking around the busy city. I can't seem to find any fault in Urban AdvenTours and I strongly recommend you trust this company to rent your bike in Boston! read more

I wanted to book a bike tour in Boston because I did one in Chicago and it was so much fun! This tour was pretty good, but fell short of my experience in Chicago for a few reasons: 1. There weren't as many interesting stops. Boston has a lot of neat landmarks, but what's actually covered with the bike tour wasn't that impressive. We did stop by Boston Garden though, which I appreciated because I am a hockey fan. But there weren't very many stops and there was a lot more riding than I expected. 2. Some of the biking was actually pretty strenuous. This wasn't that big of a complaint for me, but it might be for someone who expects a bike tour to involve easy cycling. At one point, we were facing a crazy headwind and it was quite challenging. My experience in Chicago was easy peasy lemon squeezy in comparison. 3. Boston just isn't as bike friendly as Chicago. More than once, I freaked out a little because I thought I was going to get run over, haha. The guides do their very best to make sure that everyone in the group is safe, but you obviously can't control every single driver out there. Overall, we still had a good time and our guide, Baylor, was great! read more
