Today we came for lunch. A custom chicken cutlet and today's special the Saquon sizzle We couldn't complain a bit about either. The cashiers are so friendly and the ordering process is easy (once you get the hang of it) kiosks where you order and pay all in one. If you are getting a drink and chips, you have to pay separately at the cash register which is slightly inconvenient. Indoor and outdoor seating first come first serve but it does tend to turn over quickly. It can get crowded and the shopping area does get congested. There was a wait for the kiosk when we went today but the atmosphere is comfortable and inviting. A lot to see and plenty to try. We will be back to sample more of the menu for sure.

We've been going here for years for really good pizza. It changed hands about two years ago and we were concerned the food might change with the new owner and it did. Hard to believe but it is EVEN BETTER than before! The pizza is great and today I had their "famous buffalo chicken wrap" for the first time. OUTSTANDING!! (Yes they are open for curbside pickup during the Covid-19 pandemic; just call ahead). If you haven't tried this place you don't know what you are missing. read more

We heard about this place all the way in New Albany, IN. We absolutely loved the meat ball subs and the macaroni and cheese. I hear the meatballs are made in house. They are ground perfectly and they use really good meat. They are also huge! The macaroni and cheese is also perfectly made, it is creamy throughout with a nice crunch around the edge. This place is the best! I highly recommend it. Can't wait to get back to PA to try something else at Uptown Deli!! read more

After looking at the review, we decided to try it out. It's a nice venue - it was very quiet and had a relaxed vibe. We had recently gone to Hymie's Deli (Merion Station) and the noise level there was a little deafening. Several of the reviews on Pumpernick's mentioned the Challah French Toast...many quite favorably. We decided to order that and the Veggie Omelette, sharing each. I love Challah French Toast, I make it once a week. I perfected my recipe in college working at a breakfast-lunch restaurant near campus. It all starts with the challah - we had a bakery in Youngstown that made the lightest, fluffiest and tastiest challah. The owner insisted we use only butter in the pan when grilling the French Toast. It wasn't rocket science. Somehow, Pumpernick's missed the mark. It looked very appetizing when the dish arrived, but as soon as I tried to cut a piece, I immediately knew it wasn't 'light and fluffy'. Just the opposite - it was probably the 'heaviest' and dense French Toast I've had. It tasted good - was grilled perfectly - and after a few bites, the texture didn't seem 'so bad', but it was. As I said I make French Toast with challahs (once a week) from Rolings Bakery to Whole Foods to Famous 4th Deli, and it's never near as dense and thick as the French Toast at Pumpernick's. I would guess it's the challah, not the preparation of the French Toast - but I'm not sure. Which brings me to where the challah is from - I asked - it's from Jeff Solomon Inc, a bakery in Elkins Park, that's been in business about 30 years. Enough about the French Toast, let's talk about the Veggie Omelette, which was delicious! I routinely make omelettes, with vegetables, and this omelette was as tasty as any I've made. There were onions, orange peppers, mushrooms and tomatoes, and both my partner and I were surprised at how much flavor the veggies had! The omelette itself was light and fluffy; it was delightful! There were hash brown potatoes served with the omelette which were cooked perfectly - crispy exterior with a tender and great potato taste. There was a cinnamon raisin bagel that also came with the omelette which was very good. We enjoyed our breakfast notwithstanding the Challah French Toast - on our return - I'll try the pancakes.
