We ate here when passing through town, and it was quite the treat! Coming in, the hostess was nice and the decor was instantly appealing with an open kitchen and unique, colored light fixtures. For drinks, I had the Berry Blast smoothie while my boyfriend had a mimosa. I found the smoothie refreshing and fresh. The mimosa, though, was reported to be a bit disapointing. "It had the wrong balance of alcohol and orange juice- too much alcohol." For food, we had the chicken sausage hash and a personalized scramble respectively, with a biscuit, sourdough toast, and a pancake on the sides. My chicken sausage scramble was GREAT. The sausage itself was so flavorful and it paired perfectly with the diced potates. My one issue was the red onion pieces leaned to far to raw whereas I only like them cooked to soft or carmelized. The biscuit was so soft. I was very happy I forgoed toast for a biscuit! The sourdough was not served hot enough to stand up to the soft biscuit. As for the scramble and pancake, "The scramble was a made to order with the ingredients. It tasted fresh, well-seasoned, and very wholesome. The pancake was smooth, buttery, and generous sized. I went to Uptown Kitchen for breakfast and unfortunately, the food was mediocre. I had the stuffed French toast and it was two pieces of French toast on top of each other with "filling" in the middle, but just mediocre. It was a choose your own bread, filling and topping on the French toast. I opted for the chocolate-hazelnuts filling and strawberry topping. My mom had an egg scramble with her choice of toppings and it was overcooked and dry. We had some bacon as a side and it was super crispy. In summary, the interior is adorable and fun. The food here is always delicious. They have healthy options and comfort food as well. The smoothies are delicious and healthy. They have Lavazza cold brew, and the regular coffee is good, too. If you ask, they will give you a cup full of hot Joe to take with you into your day. I recommend the Jonathan's healthy hash, or any of the brunch features. This place is a-okay. As a tip, make a reservation or call ahead, I've been told it's always busy, and the time I went it was just as crazy. They can put your name on the list if you call ahead and can't make a reservation. We waited 2 minutes. I ordered the iced coffee. Apparently that means add syrup and other flavors as I was charged for the coffee and also "syrup" or something like that. Kinda silly to me. Regardless, it was good! I also ordered the vegetarian croissant. Honestly, it wasn't that good. The potatoes weren't seasoned well and the spices didn't mix well. The "sandwich" wasn't really a sandwich as there wasn't a top. The croissant was only on the bottom. The reason the sandwich wasn't good was that the veggies weren't cooked. The mushrooms and other veggies were prepared by cutting them and putting them on. I wasn't a fan at all. It was very fresh, which was nice, but they needed to be cooked a little before serving. I wouldn't order this again till changes are made. I also tasted my friend's carrot cake pancakes and the bite I had tasted like tasteless and flavorless fluff. Uptown kitchen is located in an up and coming area of the upscale city of Granger where the city obviously developing and adding new businesses. When I walked in it was packed to say the least and everyone was dressed business casual, so this place has a nice following catering to a certain upscale demographic clientele in the community. When I was greeted I was impressed by the professionalism of the staff. The manager himself greeted me and took down my name and even though the restaurant was busy he was very attentive to me. I looked at their menu selection and it was all American food featuring sandwiches, salads, and build your own pizzas etc. But what I noticed is that all of the ingredients looked fresh and of good quality which is what matters. One amenity they offer which made me giggle is they have a FULL bar!!!!! I will mention this is a BRUNCH restaurant!!! And they close by 3pm Lol!! So yeah I thought it was cute to see that they accommodate to people that want to get toasted early in day and enjoy a good brunch/lunch Lol! When my food came out it was good I ordered quiche with fries( their fries that they call fries are cubed red skinned potatoes) they were good, with a nice texture and nicely seasoned, and the quiche was good. But not up to par with the quiche I make. I also tried their chicken avocado club and it was veryyyyy refreshing! It could've used a bit more flavor but overall good concept and it wasn't bad it was pretty good. All in all the service was good. The food was good. The ambience was semi upscale. I also appreciate the fact that the same manager that greeted me when I came in checked on me before I made my departure, to make sure I enjoyed my experience. The glass was filled with ice drive through style (nearly to the top) with the drink left to fit into what was left of the already meager space in the 12oz glass. Even my mother in law would have been disappointed. They earned three stars simply because the menu items were varied and all good with options for vegetarians and individuals with allergies. They had three types of hash on the menu - yum. I ordered the 7225 salad after asking the server on her recommendation between the Asian salad and the 7225, which featured seared steak. She didn't hesitate to say 7225. The menu states "ask for any salad chopped!" So I asked for chopped and ordered the steak medium rare. When my salad came out, I instantly noticed that the meat looked raw. It was cold to the touch, so the server took it back to the kitchen and returned with the same not-chopped salad- now topped with overly done steak. Aside from still being the wrong temperature, the steak (and therefore the salad itself) was extremely oily and lacked any flavor. The dressing was also unimpressive, watery, and flavorless. Based on the menu description and the $13 price, I had much higher expectations. Best thing about the experience was the average sangria. They offer a great brunch on the weekend so we tried brunch on Sunday morning. They were pretty busy but I made a reservation so we were seated right away. They offer a $5 Bloody Mary or Mimosa on their brunch menu. I highly recommend either one...perfect pairing to a weekend brunch! I ordered the Huevos Rancheros and it was topped with scrambled eggs. This entree had chorizo, black beans, salsa, sour cream on top of two corn tortillas. This entree was prepared perfectly and was almost large enough for two people. We enjoyed this meal on their large patio but they do have a large dining area inside. The service was ok but nothing special. I don't pass through Indiana that often, and as a vegan, I worry about my options while travelling. This was a nice reprieve from my long journey. The atmosphere and decor were very friendly and inviting as were the staff and servers. My waitress Sarah was very helpful in her beer recommendation. My friends and I recently visited Uptown kitchen for brunch. It was a busy Saturday, but they were still able to seat our group of 7 within 20ish minutes which was great. They have ample seating for everyone waiting for tables, and though very busy, the hosts/hostesses/every employee is working to ensure everything is running smoothly. Our food was wonderful, as was our server. She was very friendly and personable and treated us very well. Every plate was eaten entirely-delicious! At the end of our meal, (I believe it was) the owner approached our table to thank us for dining and ask how everything was. Not to be repetitive, but like I said before, the staff was all very friendly and hospitable; customer service is hugely important, and it's the owner's friendliness that is inspired me to leave this review. Locale: Here in South Bend's "Sodosopa" you can find this quaint little cafe next to oldish looking brand new barn doors with a false patina reminiscent of a Southern California suburb that tries to recapture the images and feeling of its 19th century pioneers. Decor: The Cthulhu lamp was displeased with the lack of any version of a Benedict on the menu, as was I. Menu: While there may not have been a Benedict in the brunch menu, I was impressed with the wine/scotch/whiskey selections. Food: NaCl was noticeably absent from my omelette and my partner's veggie croissant. Now, I'm not a chef, but I would highly recommend reading "Salted: A Manifesto on the World's Most Essential Mineral, with Recipes" by Mark Bitterman. Service: If you drove here to have brunch with your in-laws in a Lexus LX-470, and then made ever more inappropriate leers and gestures toward the wait-staff after each bloody-mary, and only tipped 20% - you are what's wrong with America. I've been here quite a few time since their opening when they were a bit closer to martins and Bella shoes. When they first opened I use to love going to get their overpriced sandwiches because I worked in the area. Eventually I lost interest only to come back and find they had a few more several delicious options, a fun dining experience and higher prices. There is something unique and almost Hipster about their approach which I love, but if you don't want to spend the extra money there are several other Breakfast/Brunch options in the area with the same quality or better at a lower price. I had the biscuits and gravy and my wife had the salmon eggs Benedict. $12 & $14 is a bit high for a breakfast entree. Tried the biscuits and gravy breakfast item for brunch this morning. The biscuits, gravy and eggs were all well-made and the full order was quite a bit of food for the price. While the home fries weren't my cup of tea, they helped round out the meal nicely. I was expecting a larger pour for the $5 mimosa, but that was because of my expectations of suburb value propositions coming from Chicago for this meal! I tried my daughter's Junior Pancake breakfast; the pancakes weren't great and were a bit dense, enough so that my two-year-old (known typically for pounding pancakes and waffles) didn't bother eating the second and third of her three pancakes. Service was great and our group of seven people was seated quickly at 9:45 on a Sunday morning, so I'm glad there was not too much of a wait. read more
