I like that they choose to make their ice cream in store rather than buying it in bulk or ordering it from a factory. If you are looking for a quick ice cream treat, I would 100% reccommend checking this place out! Everyday of the week, they have some sort of deal or happy hour sale going on which is worth it to schedule into your day. They have many different flavors and toppings and they do allow sampling! For those who cannot have dairy, they also have dairy free options which is why this place is a go to for large groups or people new to Davis! There are options for everyone. One thing to note, they do not have seating inside and oftentimes they have long lines. But they do have seating right outside under street lights. On busy days, staff are alwasy working as fast as they can and they are always happy to help. The best way to avoid the lines? Go before meals or go earlier in the day :) after dinner is always the busiest time. In the spring, you can also submit a flavor you'd like them to make and if it makes it into the running, it will enter the month of bracketology where visitors try new flavors created and the favorite will be added to the menu for a while. For myself personally, I think the one at Dah Bao is better, and I've had much better in the Bay Area and outside of the bay. That being said, we both really enjoyed the chicken and rice. It was such a nostalgic taste, and we felt like the serving size was great. I think the previous reviewer is confused. The Upper Crust has always had the BEST COOKIES EVER and their quality has remained consistent for all the years I've been gobbling them up. I love spending a day out at one of the local farmers markets (Wednesday evenings in Davis is especially fun) with my kids and having some Upper Crust oatmeal Chocolate cookies. They make peanut butter and raisin ones too, but chocolate are my faves. I would also recommend the rosemary salt bread and the country french. Seriously addictive stuff people! The staff are also really friendly and helpful and the owners are frequently there to chat with and answer any questions. Keep up the stellar work Upper Crust! read more

The Café Gourmand and espresso at Upper Crust in Davis, CA were absolutely delicious--the quality of the food and drink was impressive. Unfortunately, the service did not match. The staff taking orders at the counter behaved unprofessionally, even displaying obscene gestures, which was completely unacceptable. While the café's offerings are excellent, the disrespectful and inappropriate behavior from the staff overshadowed the experience. Management needs to address this, as professionalism and respect for customers are essential. read more

I have been enjoying Upper Crust products for a couple of years now. Local. Fresh. Tasty. This chocolate loaf had excellent flavor, but it was extremely dry out of the package (and $8 from the Farmer's Market). Other than that, I have always had a great experience purchasing and enjoying Upper Crust baked goods and I will return for my usual items. read more

Our personal preference would've been like a fruit jelly, but that's what they had available. Make sure to get it warmed up so the chocolate hazel spread is nice and warm and melted. The pizza slice was also pretty good. I really enjoy the way they make their pizza crust! It reminds me of like a longer fermented pizza crust, thinner, but on the chewy side. I also appreciate that they don't use pizza sauce and they just use what tastes like crushed tomatoes or a more pure tomato sauce. Despite things tasting good, we weren't really blown away by any of the items that we ordered. If we come back, we'll make sure to try the other offerings, which could definitely bump this review up to five stars.

My daughter and I got there about 15 minutes before opening as we had plans later and waited out front on the picnic tables. I really liked the outdoor area. The other restaurant was already opened and they told us that Little Gem would be opening soon. We ended up having to wait quite awhile as Little Gem opened about 15 minutes late and normally I would probably take a star off for that. however the man was VERY apologetic and we are all human so I was not mad about it. We ordered our waffles on the kiosk and they came out fast. The presentation was so cute! The fruit on top was fresh and tasty. The waffles are pretty unique.... they use a yeast-rising brioche dough and contain Belgium pearl sugars that caramelize. It was good! Very sweet for sure but in a good way. They definitely did not necessarily taste like the waffles I had in Belgium, but that apparently is because I had tried "Brussels" type waffles and these are "Liège" waffles. I learned something new and more importantly I learned that I love both types of waffles! Portions were perfect size for my daughter and I but might be a little small for some. The prices were good though so no worries if you need two! A lot of them came with ice cream on top and I was told by another patron that the ice cream at Little Gems is great but we did not try it when we went as we were going for a late breakfast.
