For a very brief moment of my life, I would visit someone who lived near and attended UC Davis, but that part of my life has long past. Either way, this was a neat stop that we went to during one of my visits. It's small, but it fulfills a niche without making the residents of Davis have to meander out to San Jose or the like to go to a Japanese market. There's imported Japanese household goods, anime and kawaii merchandise and trinkets, snacks, drinks, a LOT of Gunpla and model kits, manga, stationery, instant noodles, condiments, furikake, mochi and other ice cream, cosmetics, apparel, and much more. There's also some hot and fresh foods like baked buns, etc. Cool that they added several different floors and support the Japanese community there as there's classes too. As much as it's a neat little shop with stickers, figures, anime, etc. -there is something definitely wrong with one of the cashier's here and customer service. We were answered rudely when asked for the price, and when we asked to get stickers to purchase (all locked and they need to unlock it, like it's that premium huh?), they automatically assumed we just wanted one and didn't even look like she wanted to unlock it for us. We made a day trip to explore Davis and stumbled upon this store while walking through downtown. We were excited to see that this store had a wide variety of Japanese and Asian offerings. However, our experience turned sour shortly after entering the store. The cashier, in the middle of helping another customer, reprimanded my husband for throwing away an empty cup in their trash can. Her facial expression and tone of voice was obviously upset and stern, as if we brought in a ton of trash to put in her bin. That experience alone made us feel unwelcomed and we left immediately. Like lady, who the hell hurt you so badly that you're upset at an empty cup thrown in the trash. This review was left moreso to let management know of their employees level of customer service. And well, if she was management, then that is just a shame to treat customers that way. read more

My fiancé and I love to stop by this mini mart any time we're in Davis. This place is 3 stories, floor 1 being the mini mart, floor 2 has anime and the learning center, and the basement has a bunch of different stuff like books and stuffed toys. You can always find something when you come here. We came by last night and the gentleman working was super friendly and welcoming. We ended up just getting a couple snacks and a drink. Rude customer service by a cashier named Cienna/Sienna. She looks annoyed with every customer and thinks everyone is there to steal something. The cashier was unwelcoming and unfriendly to the children who visited the store. She even snatched something away from my daughter as she was playing with it out of curiosity. This place is pretty cool! They have so much in such a little store hence "mini mart." Honestly I got the vibe of a mom and pop type store filled with lots of different candies, desserts, ramens, even little trinkets and stationary sets!! Super cute store! The staff was super kind and offered if we needed help finding anything specific when we came in. There are no drinks allowed in the store so they have a little table that you can leave your drinks on right outside the door! We ended up buying little Japanese candies that were by the cash register and they were super delicious. This is a cute little Japanese mart that sells all sorts of stuff -- anime merch (keychains, stickers, posters), plushies, stationery, snacks, bathroom items, manga, EVERYTHING. One cool part about this place is that there are stairs leading to a basement floor which has a study area for people to hang around. It feels so homely and cozy. I was leisurely bebopping around downtown Davis on a recent lazy weekend afternoon. I eyed this place... Kobe Mini Mart. The sign distinguished itself as a Japanese mini mart. My curiosity was peaked, so off I go venturing in. So glad I did. This place sells a bit of everything. I was a bit awe struck with all the inventory. You do not normally find a place like this outside the Bay area. Even Sacramento does not have a shop like this. They have Japanese and Asian candy and snacks; food staples such as rice, noodles; frozen foods including mochi; cold case of Japanese sodas; deli hot buns; plates/bowls; plushies; and stuff that I am not hip enough to understand. That stuff is Funko, anime character keychains (which reminded me of shrinkee dinks), stickers, cards, figurines, model kits/paints/brushes, and toys. Kobe Mini Mart is a charming place that provides Japanese food and other grocery items. They have a mini manga lounge and skin care products at the bottom level of the store. I wish they could expand their manga lounge to make it more inviting for people to read. They also carry a few anime goodies like cute keychains and standard toys. read more

Really felt in my element here. As a Caucasian man raised around Japanese media, I've always felt extremely in touch with Japanese culture. The ambiance was very pleasant and Nihon-like. Despite being a small place, I left with a bigger heart. It was very kawaii (meaning cute, for those who don't speak Japanese). My only complaint is the downstairs section was slightly less erotic than it was in the past. At the very least, put the scandalous figures on display guys! Either way, it was kakkoii (meaning cool). Such an adorable mini mart! We were waiting on our food from Honey D next door and decided to take a peek. Pleasantly welcomed as we entered, we were not harassed for browsing. They have quite the variety of food items not available in traditional markets. It sure was neat to see all the things they offer for sale. Felt like gaining five pounds just looking at all the tasty treats. Everything from delicate pastry, frozen desserts, unique candies, even chicken wing flavored chips! Kobe is a Daiso/ convenient store hybrid! They have your basic oriental snacks, drinks and cute lil' trinkets. Kobe has a nice size shelf dedicated to instant noodles, a good selection of sweet and savory snacks and a cold drinks section. You can get school supplies and basic household essentials here, too. Make your way down the flight of stairs into their ample lounge and you can use their hot water dispenser and microwave to heat up some instant eats. However, you have to be quiet as a mouse in the process because the chances of people studying downstairs is pretty high. So STFU and use your indoor voice or don't speak at all. It would probably be okay to play silent library tho. Hopefully, it won't be like that all the time because they have games such as jenga and connect four off to the corner of the lounge. How can you not be loud with jenga and connect four?! Overall, I'll always stop by here if I'm in the area. They have a lot of neat snacks and items, although they can be a bit on the pricey side. I LOVE THIS PLACE SO MUCH. They literally have everything you need - Delicious snacks, cold drinks, ramen, frozen food, a microwave, water kettle, free WiFi, cute stationary, plushies, knick knacks, and a whole room downstairs designated for studying and playing games. I would always look forward to studying here, as it's a lot more picturesque and calm than studying at the campus library. What really makes this place is the store owner, Thomas. He is hands-down one of the sweetest, friendliest, most respectable and welcoming people I ever met in Davis. One day I had lost my phone downtown, and as he was walking out of the store after closing he let me back in and looked at security footage to see if anyone had taken it or where it might be. The fact that he took the time to do that for a customer, especially after closing, was so respectable. I don't know many people who would do that. He would always ask me how my day was or how I was doing when I would come into the store, and it really made my day just having these conversations with him. Another time I had an altercation with someone at the store, and he asked me if I was okay after which was super sweet of him. I'm really gonna miss this place! Really cool store to check out in Davis, unfortunately they have some bootleg keychains, acrylic stands and desk mats. Really disappointing since the store has a lot of great stuff to offer. There's a whole Japanese market, a manga section, a lot of official merchandise and prize figures. There's some scale figures too but they are pseudo displayed behind the register so goodluck figuring out what's for sale and what the pricing is without bugging an employee.
