Food is excellent every-time. I come from Michigan and I make a huge effort to eat at Uppa Yard i usually get a oxtail dinner. However the wait keeps getting longer and longer. Food is good but be prepared to wait over 45 minutes for your food. Today I ordered my food at 1:00 pm and at 2:00 pm it was not ready. Taking into account we are in milwaukee. It's a true yardie restaurant. Half the things on the menu are never made but that's typical for good Jamaican restaurants. Service is average. Again, something you expect from good Jamaican restaurants. Been going to this spot for years. I love their food...from the curry chicken to the jerk egg rolls to the ox tails--it's all so flavorful! Food is always hot and fresh. If you blink, you'll miss this spot. It's more of a carry-out spot but they do have dine-in option. The cashiers and cooks are amazing and always great you with a smile and joke. The smell of Jerk takes over the restaurant (that's how you know it's going to be good). My signature half jerk, half oxtails combo come with rice, beans and cabbage. A gentleman at work gave me a flyer about a new Jamaican restaurant in Milwaukee. I looked at the flyer, did not recognize the address so I left it on my desk. The following week, I was craving some spicy food but couldn't find this flyer :( A couple of weeks later, I was driving from work to my hotel on this new route that I stumbled upon. It's my understanding the Oxtails were the reason for the longer wait, other than letting me know when I ordered it would take longer I have no complaints. The ox tail i got was exactly what I was dreaming of when my Lyft driver recommended this place. Spicy was great, rice and beans sopped up the sauce perfectly, and the cabbage was a nice side to calm down the flavor everything else was bringing. In true ox tail fashion, you are going to want to take this to a private spot to enjoy. I have been to the restaurant several times, and the customer service and wait times are always horrible. What makes it more irritating is the requirement to wait, while they blast music. The last time I went, I ordered my food online and waited one hour beyond their posted 35 minute wait time. When I approached, the cashier went to the back and I saw her look for my order and when she didn't see the order, she went further to the back out of my site. She came back and lied to my face. Stated they had to drop my rolls and it would be another five or ten minutes. In reality, they never started my order. Her five minutes turned into another 30 minutes. The cashier brings my food and walks away. No thank you, apology, offer of something for the requirement to wait a total of two hours. The taste of the food is hit or miss at times, but it is of no consequence if your customer service and wait times are ridiculous and instead of being truthful, you lie to customers. And since it continues to happen, the restaurant has no care or concern for the customers that patronize their establishment. Where is the owner and his/her requirement for employee training or professionalism? At least you should greet customers, good evening welcome to the UPPA Yard; yes ma'am or no sir, have a great evening, or relay other pleasantries. Yes, they have long lines not because the food is all that, rather the patrons tolerate the behavior. They have an excellent selection of authentic Jamaican cuisine and offer combos when you can't decide which delicacy to indulge in for dinner. Meals come in small and large portions. Some our favorites include: Curry Goat, Jerk Chicken (tender and juicy), Ox Tail, & Curry Chicken. These come with rice and peas (not green peas, really they are beans) and steamed cabbage. They have additional sides available such as Patties and Ripe Plantains. As well as, some traditional beverages like Cola Champaign. (We haven't tried the seafood entrees, Jerk Pork, or Brown Stew Chicken yet). The casual restaurant is decorated in Jamaican flag: yellow and green. Primarily it caters to take-out customer's, however they do have a small eat-in area. My only criticism about this place is that they are so busy, it is very difficult to get through over the phone to place an order in advance.
