I picked up a to go order. Food arrived hot and packed well. Not too friendly service for just picking up. People inside seemed happy. I'd go back and find in just to try it. The ambiance inside is pretty cool. Street parking is kind of limited. I can see this place being popular in summer. read more

This is my favorite place to go for Rican food! Their food has such great flavors and I love the service here, all of the waitresses are so nice and make sure you have everything you need. I love how its decorated too, think tropical Caribbean vibes!! Important to note that they recently got their alcohol license taken away so no alcoholic drinks there at the moment!! read more

Wow - so glad we ordered this! Ordered via Grubhub and got the arroz con gandeles 2x1 with the bander pepper steak. Both were large portions and absolutely delicious! Tried the Yuca sticks and tostones appetizers and really enjoyed both of them. I'm a big empanada fan so we got some chicken empanadas and they did not disappoint! All told everything we had was fantastic. We will absolutely be back and will have to visit in person one day. read more

I tried McCocos on a Friday night at about 5:30 - the restaurant steadily filled up during my time there. The staff was warm, welcoming, and brought us beef and chicken soup right when we sat down. Unfortunately, they don't currently have alcohol so we weren't able to try a margarita. But both the Mexican Tacos and Miami Tacos with steak were good. They came with a lot of food! The interior decor is neon and groovy, very unique! read more

Had the steak Miami tacos and a Colombiana kola soda the other day, and wow, did not expect such great tacos from a place that is known for their Dominican/PR food. The steak was perfectly seasoned, the salsa they give you is great, and the rice and salad they give you as sides are so tasty. read more

I don't go into mke too often but wanted to visit and see if I could find a good Puerto Rican/Caribbean restaurant since I was in the area. McCoco's stood out to me so I decided to give it a try. The service was great- it's a small establishment and once we walked in someone immediately greeting us and sat us down. The ambiance was very pleasant. They had pictures of the Caribbean on all the tvs and it felt very tropical Once we were sitting we got a complimentary bowl of soup. It was so warm and perfect for the cold day. I forgot what it was called but it was very delicious. Food I would say overall was good. I was hoping the tostones to be a bit more crispier and a little more garlicky tho /: My mofongo was good too - again missing just a tad more garlic. The meat was well seasoned and very tasty. My boyfriend got the Jibarito and he basically said the same thing about the garlic and crispiness of the tostones and his jibarito sandwich. I would still recommend this place tho! And I would for sure come again to explore the rest of the menu (: 3 1/2 - 4 stars overall read more

I took my friend from out of town here and the food was amazing! It definitely gives you island vibes! The drinks were amazing! The new patio is nice! There's a hammock you can relax in and a swing to sit in for pictures. The music makes you want to dance while you wait for your food. Speaking of the food everything is cooked to perfection nor do you have to wait long. The waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly. Speaking of the patio you can also reserve it for a party. The menu is very reasonably priced. My favorite appetizer are the plantains. read more

Went here for lunch on a Sunday with a friend when it opened. The service was very good, as well as the drinks. I said the empanadas were too greasy, while my friend said they were too salty. Probably wouldn't order again. I ordered the chicken platter, while my friend ordered the steak platter. Both her and I loved the rice. She finished her steak, while I only ate about half of my chicken. Nothing wrong with it, just a lot to eat. Drinks were amazing and I would definitely return just for those, maybe not the food so much. This place's is decked out in lighting and is super cute on the inside. All-in-all, a pretty mid experience. read more

A BOGO meal?! Uh, yes, please! I tried through DoorDash and was pleasantly surprised by the delicious food. I got the Empanada Colombianas De Pollo O Carne. So good! I liked the chicken the best. I did a "too good to go" rescue order. Other restaurants have these orders filled and ready for pick up between your time frame. They did not. When I got there, they proceeded to fill a take out order and 3 other complete tables while I still had to wait for them to start mine. What was given was disgusting. It was nearly 1 1/2 cups plain white rice, some pork n beans that looked like they literally cracked a can of Van Camps, and then approx 2 ounces of a non seasoned pulled pork. Seriously, I think they dug around to find left overs of left overs so they could fill their other orders! The wait staff ignored me while I waited. Never again!! read more

This was our second visit to McCoco's and one of the things we liked on our first visit was the variety of Tropical drinks and the complimentary bowl of soup which was quite good and reminded us of the soup our Grandmother used to make. We were celebrating a Birthday and after being seated and given the complimentary soup we were informed they could not serve any alcohol. It was quite off putting since that was why we went there but ended up ordering food which was okay but definitely not the experience we had hoped for. So although a quarter of the menu features all these different Tropical drinks that looked fantastic ... it was false advertising, they cannot serve Alcoholic Beverages. read more

The bilingual staff was fantastic and the ambiance was great, although the music was extremely loud, making it difficult to have a conversation with my friend. The food was good, but on the salty side. The dish I ordered said that it came with plantains, but they forgot to put it on the plate so we had to request it. The serving size was enormous, so I brought almost half of it home to have as leftovers. Since the name is Mc "Cocos" (coconut), I asked if they had any traditional dishes made with coconut like the ones that are typical in Venezuela, but they do not have anything made with coconut. For dessert, I ordered the flan, which was good, however, it was missing the traditional "caramelo". I hope the owner/manager reads this review and is able to make adjustments based on it (specially music column)because I would really like to go back and bring some of my Hispanic friends. read more

This is a recent book mark after seeing the unique menu so I stopped by for lunch. WOW this place is beautiful was my first impression as I walked in with color and a modern cool look. They have a nice bar and dining area which was clean and new looking with TVs all over playing colorful salt water coral and fish and some neon. This is way out of place for West Allis and should be in a hipper part of Milwaukee. The menu is very interesting with breakfast, lunch and dinner options and fancy cocktails. The chaofan platter was recommended of the two dishes I was looking at with choice of meat. The presentation was on point for a $12.95 platter I thought, someone has put money and serious thought in to making this gem of a restaurant in downtown West Allis and GREAT JOB. The chaofan platter comes with choice of meat and I chose grilled steak and onions with, chaofan rice and a side salad. The grilled steak was nothing fancy and a thin grilled sandwich steak that had a slight grilled flavor. The chaofan rice is a fried rice with vegetables, eggs and bits of beef and chicken that was tasty and seasoned nicely. The side salsa is more of a garnish. Overall if anyone follows my reviews you know that I like to try every style of food and some more than others but this is a very welcome restaurant for the city of West Allis. After moving to Milwaukee over 20 ago from Chicago with an awesome food scene I can honestly say that the Milwaukee area food scene has come a long way in that time. read more

Two visits in, one for lunch a couple of months ago and one for dinner with the family tonight. The lunch is organized by side dish for the most part (tostones, arroz con gandules, white rice and beans, etc.) and you choose the protein to pair it with. McCoco's is a Caribbean restaurant with a focus on Puerto Rican and Dominican cuisine, with a few Mexican and Columbian dishes, and an out-of-place "shrimp scampi" dish thrown in. Lunch was near perfect. I ordered arroz con gandules with pernil (roasted pulled pork shoulder) and sides of mofongo and tostones. The pernil was tender, moist, and really well-seasoned! The arroz con gandules was also tasty. The tostones on my first visit had a beautiful yellow color with a crisp exterior and fluffy interior, and the mofongo was nicely seasoned but could have use a bit more cruchy chicharron for texture. Tostones are made from green plantain. They are generally bland and rely on crispy texture and salt for flavor. They are often served with a 50/50 mix of ketchup and mayo as a dipping sauce (which Heinz figured out to bottle and sell). Maduros are made from ripe plantains, which provides a naturally sweet flavor. You'll find these on Carribbean menus, including Jamaican menus, and they'll simply be listed as plantains, but know that those are the sweet version from ripe plantains. Mofongo is made from mashed fried green plantain. Typically fried and mashed in a wooden bowl or pilon (pee LONE) and stuffed with meat, seafood, or veggies, or rolled into a ball with bits of crispy pork or chicharron, and deep fried. Tonight's visit was solid, too, with only minor marks against. I ordered the carne frita (fried meat, specifically pork) with white rice and beans and a side of tostones. You'll see a big difference my two photos of tostones from the two visits. In the earlier dated photo, the plantains were sliced at an angle and cooked in clean oil for the proper amount of time (typically slice around an inch thick, fry for a couple of minutes, removed from fryer, smash, then refry to complete the cook for another couple of minutes). The tostones today were cooked in oil that was used a lot, likely because of the very busy Mother's Day volume, and they were sliced straight, as opposed to t an angle. Today's tostones were not as good as the first visit, BUT the white rice, beans, and carne frita were all cooked perfectly, seasoned perfectly, and very delicious! The pickled red onions on top of the carne frita were a nice touch. The other negative mark is for the yuca fries. They were undercooked. The color was closer to white than a golden color. They weren't crispy at all and the center wasn't soft and fluffy. They were also underseasoned. The pork empanadas we had as an app were also perfectly cooked and delicious, and while I liked the chicharron appetizer, what we received looked much different than the photo on the menu. It was a much smaller order than pictured, and not worth the $12, but the pieces had good flavor. Expect a good amount of fat I thought our service was great for the most part. We were a group of 10, and despite our server reading back our orders, one order was still missed and two orders came out LONG after everyone else had their food, so part server error and part kitchen error. I will go back again, and I do recommend you give them a try. read more

Didn't live up to the hype. It was 630 on a Saturday and they were very busy. Usually busy means it's a good restaurant so we were excited. We sat at the bar but everything was dirty... everything. Including the glasses that just got out of the dishwasher, the napkins in the holders were dirty, counter was dirty, refrigerators behind the bar were dirty, left over marg/pina coladas in blenders, bar chairs broken and more. Honestly the more we looked around we couldn't stomach getting more than an appetizer. We got a canned sprite and didn't get drinks. I'm sure this place has great potential but if they can't keep the bar clean which is visible I wouldn't trust their kitchen. read more

Came here because I saw they had some Columbian plates on the menu. Ordered Bandeja Paisa, the Chicharrón was delicious as was the rest of the platter. The only thing that wasn't great was the yucca. It was too soft, like maybe a batch had been sitting out for a while or made earlier in the day. Previously when I've eaten yucca it's been crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. Our waitress was very attentive and nice, food came out in a timely fashion. read more

The food was good at McCoco's but I still have not gone back since last month. It still bothers me that the waitress cheated us and told us that our three orders came with the meal but it did not, so we were charged $15 extra. So be aware when you go there that the waitress will tell you things come with your meal, but they really doesn't and you will be charged extra for each thing you order. It's a big lie. read more

After watching the segment on Fox6 we were excited to check it out. Sadly the experience doesn't live up to the hype, so save yourself the time. Many of the items on the actual menu were not available. Drinks were mediocre. The soup was actually good, minus the hair.
