Ok, I have read the bad reviews from the others. I can honestly say, I didn't experience anything that would have me give this place a bad review. Uppa Yard can get really busy, so I suggest if you're getting takeout. Call ahead and that will save you a lot of time. There is a bar area, if you would like a few cocktails. Or you can just be seated, after you place your order in the dining area. Portion sizes are very generous.. highly recommend trying this place out. Curry chicken- slight heat to this entree. Chicken very tender and the sauce is spot on. Definitely enjoyed this dish Jerk Oxtail/jerk chicken combo- again portion size is huge. Everything was seasoned really good, just the right amount of heat

Although, this app said the restaurant is closed. They are open. Friendly staff. Food is great as usual. It was so crowded. Restaurant clean. The wait time is unbelievable. I waited 1 hour 30 mins. However the food was worth. I will order again tomorrow! ENJOY!!!

Loved the brown stew chicken. No complaints on the plantain either. Great portions and atmosphere at the bar as well.

Curry Chicken, Rice and Peas, Cabbage

A friend who lives in Milwaukee recommended this restaurant to see how I thought it would compare to the Jamaican cooking I grew up eating. That's always an unfair comparison for me to make. Any food coming from your grandparents' kitchen, your parents' kitchen, or your own is unfair to use as a litmus test against restaurant food. I ordered a curry chicken plate and a jerk chicken plate. While I think it's okay for what tasted like seasoned baked chicken, what would have kicked the flavor up several notches would have been if the chicken had been proper smoked. The rice and peas were good. The cabbage was more like slaw. They didn't have plantains and we went shortly after the restaurant had opened for business. I had wanted brown stew chicken. However, that was another dish they didn't have cooked, and it would have probably been perfect since brown stew chicken is baked or stewed. The restaurant seems to be quite busy. Lots of takeaway orders, no dine-in. I must admit that the portions are substantial, so that's a plus.

Jamaican Curry Goat/Oxtails with Rice & Peas/Steamed Cabbage/ Pink Ting

The Jamaican food at Uppa Yard was absolutely hot, fresh, & delicious!! It was so good I was doing my little happy dance as I'm savoring every bite lol!!! :) We got really great large portion sizes well worth the prices. I ordered the curry goat, curry oxtails with rice & peas with steamed cabbage. My husband ordered the jerk chicken with rice & peas/cabbage. He said his was super delicious also! My curry goat and oxtails were extremely tender and very nicely seasoned. You have to be careful with curry goat not to swallow any sharp bones or shards though. The only drawback is the place is so popular the wait was really long to get our food because we didn't call ahead of time or place an online order. I'm not sure if that would have helped or not but there was many orders ahead of us as it is more of a take out establishment but people can dine in there if they would like! They also had a little bar that looked liked they had some amazing drinks like a yummy Hennesy strawberry margarita and other really good looking drinks! The place is worth trying!!! We really enjoyed the food!

I love jerk chicken and only last year started to make an effort to try the various Jamaican places around the greater Milwaukee area. I knew of Uppa Yard, but every time I would drive past the strip it's in it looked like it had permanently closed, which contradicted the reviews I kept seeing pop up. Eventually I looked close enough at their tiny sign outside and figured out they are open a couple of doors down from the location that looks closed. When I stopped I ordered a large jerk chicken dinner with rice & peas and plantains instead of cabbage. I also ordered one jerk chicken egg roll. The jerk chicken dinner was ok. I think both the jerk chicken and rice & peas from Pepper Pot Catering are much better. At least you get a lot for the price, which is good. The egg roll from Pepper Pot is larger, but it has more cabbage in it as filler compared to Uppa Yard's, which has more ingredients besides just cabbage. The egg roll stood out as the better of the two items I ordered. I placed my order at 4:48pm and didn't receive my food until 5:25pm. I was told 20 minutes when I ordered, which I was ok with, so waiting 37 minutes was annoying. They weren't dead, but they didn't look slammed either, so the wait seemed long for what I ordered.

Visited Sabor Tropical Restaurant recently for dinner on a Sunday evening…read more We were immediately greeted and seated. The restaurant itself was impeccably clean and welcoming. I started out my experience with their Pisco Sour. I prefer the Peruvian style Pisco Sour (with egg whites and bitters), they serve it in the Chilean fashion (sans egg whites and bitters). It was aok if that's the style you prefer! For our starter, we got the tostones rellenos, which were the star of the evening for me. So flavorful with just the right amount of heat. Perfection! For my main dish, I got their salmon tropical, which is grilled salmon over whipped potatoes with cilantro, mango, onion, and avocado on top. It's also served with asparagus, which was pitch perfect. All in all--it was a fresh and tasty dish! For dessert, my dining companion and I opted to share their nutella flan. I found it to be overly, cloyingly sweet and wouldn't likely order dessert here again. The service was attentive and the prices were reasonable. Get to it!

The place has outdoor seating in front and the inside has a nice bar with big front windows and tables/chairs. The bar menu for a tropical restaurant had a small tropical drink menu I thought but the strawberry mojito sounded good. The strawberry mojito was good but for all I know it was a kiddie cocktail because it didn't taste like an adult beverage because it didn't taste like an alcohol beverage. The blond woman with the hypnotic/beautiful accent working the whole room by herself did a great job. The menu has so much good stuff on it that it's hard to pick a dish so I opted for the Latin inspired signature sampler which is empanada choice of meat, steak quesadilla, tostone ralleno pork, three mango bbq wings and tostones. The food took a bit to hit the table but it looked good when it did. Everything was delicious/flavorful and seasoned nicely. I enjoyed everything on the plate so it's hard to pick one over the other except the wing's because wings are everywhere. The pork was moist and seasoned nicely as well as the tender steak quesadilla, it's all very good. Overall I really like my lunch and I'm so glad that I stopped for something different and they did a great job.

Hi, This is Dominic the food reviewer. Today I tried Mangos Cafe. It is located at 1682 N. Van…read moreBuren St, Milwaukee, WI. 53202. It started in 2010 on 16th and National then they moved to the current location near Brady St. I got to talk to one of the owners, Greg. He said him, and the other owner Frank wanted to open a place that was like a Florida college bar and restaurant, with an interesting twist on tacos. They also own and operate Juana Taco Company and Makk'n'Cheese. Greg told me he started out at Buffalo Wild wings and wanted to make better wings, so they opened their own place. Mangos has also been voted best tacos in Milwaukee twice at Taco fest. The decor is like an island tiki bar with tiki masks decorating the walls. They also have a DJ from 10pm to close. One of the cool things here is that they serve food all the way until bar close, you can pick up, get a delivery or eat in, all the way up to 2AM. They are open 11am-2am (bar close) 7 days a week. They marinate their wings up to 24 hours in Dominican seasoning. To eat, we tried the Triple Sampler which comes with 2 empanadas, half order of Jamaican Curds and a half order of Mango fries. This appetizer was very outstanding I thought. Then, we tried wings with all kinds of different sauces. We tried 2 baskets of Jack Daniels BBQ and Spicy parmesan wings. Then had a basket with Naked wings with the sauce on the side. For the sauces, we had Thai Chili, Caribbean Jerk, Hot and Honey, and their hottest sauce, Angry Chef. I thought the wings were very tender, and I thought the sauces had just the right amount of tang to them. My favorite sauce was the Angry Chef and the Thai Chili. My Dads favorite wings were the spicy parmesan wings. We had so much fun getting to try the Angry Chef sauce. The angry chef was pretty hot but it wasn't too bad, and it was very enjoyable with that nice kick. Next we tried something special. Its not on the menu yet, but it was their authentic taco with Avocado Cream Sauce, and a little Angry Chef hot sauce. I thought my taco was very home-made especially the corn tortilla, and I loved that hot sauce. It was all amazing. My Aunt also had a Tropical Mojito to drink too. I would definitely highly recommend checking this tiki bar and restaurant out because it is very decorative and fun inside, and these are some of the best wings you can have in Milwaukee. That taco was amazing too.

Butler WI…read moreis not known for a diverse food scene and this Jamaican restaurant is way out of place to start with. The place has a cool lounge vibe and probably the coolest place in Butler WI. My service was friendly and fast. I would have to go with the classic jerked chicken meal as my first time trying the place that comes with jerked chicken, mini hot corn on the cob, rice/peas and cabbage. The cabbage was probably the best from a Jamaican restaurant that I can remember because it was spicy. The corn cob was also very good because it was cooked in a broth of some sort and very different from regular corn on the cob. The rice and peas were also good with some spice but lacking any depth of flavor. The jerked chicken was good with moist meat and that classic dark skin but it needed the jerk sauce on the to get its flavor potential on point. Overall was the food good, yes. Was it the best jerked chicken no because that south side place is still my favorite. Would I go back for more of the menu, definitely.

We had the jerk ribs and the brown stew chicken with rice, cabbage, corn, and plantains--every single thing was packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. Service was excellent from start to finish, and we got to meet the owner, Jessica, who was fun, friendly, and clearly passionate about what she's built. Highly recommend--can't wait to come back!
