    Peruvian Half Chicken
    Helen H.

The place is located within 3rd St. Market Hall. We decided for get the Peruvian rotisserie chicken. The half chicken was smaller than expected, but it did come with two sides. We also ordered a Peruvian salad. I don't know what makes it Peruvian, as it was just a simple salad. Maybe it's the dressing?

it was a difficult choice once when you come here. there are so many cuisine options. Why did I decide to try Criollo? simple- Peruvian food. No guinea pigs on the menu, but they do offer a combo that consist of a half chicken w/two sides for under $20. But when i opened it, there was only a 1/4 chicken. I brought my dish back to them. They immediately saw i had the wrong order and corrected it by giving me a whole Peruvian chicken along with the original wrong 1/4 chicken order. An extra star just for that! So how was the combo: I gotta be honest. the flavor was very subtle but good. It would have been better if it were not so dry. Perhaps if this dish was served immediately after it was cooked, the bird would have been moist and not so dry. But ordering this dish for dinner...it was probably sitting for many hours in their pre-cooked container from being prepared earlier for their lunch crowd. But an extra star for their flavorful black beans and peruvian rice. very good. So 3 stars for the food and an extra star for customer service. But i will definitely return, but for lunch only to truly taste the potential of this location .

Don't pay the extra 3 dollars for the side of yuca. They give you 5 pieces of yuca. So 60 cents per yuca. Unbelievable!

The place is small and the waitress didn't speak any English so a nice patron came to my rescue and translated my order, he asked me if I wanted everything on my sandwich and I said yes the was it's supposed to be and don't dumb it down for the Caucasian because I came here for the real deal food. I ordered the Tripleta sandwich with Puerto Rican rice. The Tripleta sandwich is roast pork, steak, ham, ketchmayo, cheese, lettuce and tomato on a roll of some sort. This $10 sandwich is a monster by the way. My first impression is all I taste is pork which I fine because it's good so I open the sandwich and all I see pork with a razor thin random ham piece and no steak at all. Regardless the sandwich was fu#king delicious piled/overflowing with tender pork. The hoagie roll was a great bakery artisan style French bread with a nice thin chewy crust, like my last review the bread really makes or breaks a good sandwich and they nailed this one. The Puerto Rican rice was also fu#king delicious, seasoned nicely and cooked perfectly just past Al dente but far from mush. I eat at so many restaurants and my memory gets hazy over the years but I really think that this was the best Puerto Rican restaurant I have been to and also it's probably what I ordered ala carte vs an entree on the menu.

I stumbled on this Puerto Rican place and I wanted to try it because I don't really see true Puerto Rican places at all come to think of it. I have not had Puerto Rican food since I was a boy eating at my friends house and I can only remember that rice was always on the dish. The place is across from the El Ray food store on 13th St with plenty of street parking. The neighborhood looks a little worse for wear but that is where you can find some of the best ethnic/real food. If there is such a thing as Puerto Rican dive than this place is it with all the artificial trees and roosters all over the place. There is plenty of old green booths and tables on old linoleum floors. Up front is a hot table with empanadas, blood sausage, pork, plantains etc. The older man and woman were very helpful in assisting me with picking out a dish that would be a good representation of Puerto Rican food. The menu has so much that I really don't know what it all was but I probably would have liked all of it no matter what I chose. I chose the Bistec enpanado which is thin breaded steak, Puerto Rican rice and fried plantains with a side of ground beef and cheese empanada. When the plate hit the table it smelled amazing and was plentiful so there would be left overs to relive my lunch again. For the first time I liked the plantains because they were not hard but fried with the texture of a thick slice of cheese. The rice had great texture/flavor and was fluffy with individual grains, no sticky mushy rice here. The breaded steak was very tasty but I can't nail down the flavor profile which bugged me. The empanadas was crispy/golden tasty but they were skimpy on the ground beef and cheese filling because 3/4 of the inside was air, see my pictures. I really liked all the flavors from the dish but I think the nicely seasoned ground beef and cheese empanada was my favorite with the crispy golden she'll. Overall for my first real adult experience with authentic Puerto Rican food I liked it even though the style is not super flavorful with bold tastes or flavors/spices. I would definitely like to get back and try some more of the menu, maybe the roast pork or the cubano sandwich.

Love this place.. Never a bad meal or experience! The hot case is a great go to for a snackread more

McCoco's stood out to me so I decided to give it a try. The service was great- it's a small establishment and once we walked in someone immediately greeting us and sat us down. The ambiance was very pleasant. They had pictures of the Caribbean on all the tvs and it felt very tropical Once we were sitting we got a complimentary bowl of soup. It was so warm and perfect for the cold day. I forgot what it was called but it was very delicious. Food I would say overall was good. I was hoping the tostones to be a bit more crispier and a little more garlicky tho /: My mofongo was good too - again missing just a tad more garlic. The meat was well seasoned and very tasty. My boyfriend got the Jibarito and he basically said the same thing about the garlic and crispiness of the tostones and his jibarito sandwich. I would still recommend this place tho! And I would for sure come again to explore the rest of the menu (: 3 1/2 - 4 stars overall

Tried the Yuca sticks and tostones appetizers and really enjoyed both of them. I'm a big empanada fan so we got some chicken empanadas and they did not disappoint! All told everything we had was fantastic. We will absolutely be back and will have to visit in person one day.

Small space but cozy, intimate feel to it that is beautifully decorated. All the workers were nice and friendly. The food??!! Sooo delicious, truly!! The beef fried rice was my favorite. The arroz con pollo was just as delicious, big fan of the pickled onions and salsa they paired with the entree. The rice was sooo good, never haf green rice before!! We sat in a booth and split a half pitcher of passion fruit sour. We probably would have been fine with a glass each, but the menu only gave the option for a half or whole pitcher. I can't pass up an order of tostones, so that was an easy immediate yes appetizer. I also love a good lomo saltado con bistec, so that was my entrée I thought it was a tad chewy, but still delicious. There were no crumbs left on my plate. Service was pretty quick initially, but the waitress took a long time to come back at the end. It could have been that she was waiting because there was still some drink in our glasses, but it was a little much not to at least come check in and refill waters. I still will be back, especially because it is so close to me now.
