My husband and I are regulars here and truly appreciate how clean and organized the store is, as well as the wonderful staff who work here--especially Diamonique! She deserves a big raise and promotion. She's fantastic at what she does and always welcomes us and our furbaby with a smile and excellent service. Not to mention, she always gives our dog treats after helping us at the checkout section. Something she does that's really thoughtful is she asks us if our dog has any allergies before offering treats. I love that so much. Additionally, we enjoy coming here because they have everything our furbaby needs, from Just Food For Dogs to healthy treats--we get her Zukes. Second, they offer a great selection of items, including grooming and teeth hygiene products. The sales are ongoing, especially for pet toys. We've been using the self-wash dog service at Petco Unleashed for the past year. At first, we loved it.. but as time has gone on, service has just gone down. The experience has been somewhat inconsistent, but there are a few highlights and areas for improvement worth mentioning. **Pros:** - The convenience of the self-wash stations is a big plus. It saves us the hassle of cleaning up at home, and the parking lot is generally spacious, making it easy to find a spot. - The store itself is well-stocked with all the pet essentials, although prices are typically higher than what you'd find on Amazon. **Cons:** - The customer service can be hit or miss. Often, the staff seem awkward and unwelcoming, which makes the experience less enjoyable. A friendly smile and a bit of kindness would go a long way in improving customer satisfaction. I do not like that I have had to ask for help vs a sales associate asking & greeting me " Hello, how can I help you?" we should not feel like we are a bother when walking into a store, ESPECIALLY when they first OPEN & it's empty. Our experiences have been with only a few staff members, notably Tim, Monique, and a younger blonde girl. - The shampoo provided seems diluted, and there isn't a variety of products to choose from. Other self-wash services we've used offered a wider selection of shampoos and conditioners, which were also not diluted. - Using the self-wash tubs can feel like a big ordeal at times, and the price feels steep considering the quality of the products provided. I brought my two young boys into the store, and they were excited to each pick out a treat and a toy for our new puppy. Naturally, as they looked at the toys, they squeezed a few to hear what they sounded like. After a couple of squeaks, a young employee came over and told us there was a rule that "only dogs are supposed to squeeze the toys and humans aren't allowed." My boys immediately looked upset, thinking they were in trouble, which prompted the employee to quickly add that they weren't--but that the noise gave her a headache. Seriously? In a pet store, where dog toys are sold and tested because of their noise, customers are expected not to squeeze them because it bothers an employee? This felt less like store policy and more like personal preference being pushed on paying customers. Nowhere is such a rule posted, and the interaction completely took the fun out of what should have been a happy experience for my kids. Disappointing and unnecessary. I'll be looking for a better place to shop for our pet supplies. read more

We come to this location for the self-serve dog wash. I love that there are several stations (4) with adjustable platforms so if you have a short tiny dog you can raise the platform and if you have a bigger dog you can lower it. The platforms have holes so the water drains out and unlike other places that use a bathtub, your dog doesn't have to sit in dirty water. It used to be only 10 bucks but they raised their prices recently. :( What I don't like is the watered down shampoo. And instead of replacing the bottles when they get empty, they just refill them with more water and a little shampoo. If there were sturdier plastic that would be okay, but the bottles are pretty thin. I've watched the employees adding water and shampoo and conditioner to existing bottles. I get the cost-cutting measures but it's pretty gross you're trying to wash your dog with water down shampoo. Which was pretty cheesy when it was $10 but now that they're charging $12, now it's just lame. So we bring our own shampoo and conditioner. There's only one dryer so if there are other people washing their dogs or using the dryer you have to wait until they are done which can take a long time or go home with a wet dog wet. People come here all hours of the day even during the week which really surprised me. The employees want you to pay right away which I get because some people might walk out without paying but it's not very friendly. All the negatives aside, this self-wash works for us because our dog only has three legs. It's easier for him to walk into this tub. He seems like he's enjoying it more because he smiles a lot when he's getting washed which he didn't do at the other places. I just wish they would add another dryer. read more

I like that the cost of my dog's food here is really reasonable and slightly less than Amazon, so it makes it a bit easier for me to just pick some up than have it shipped to me. I also like the Self-Wash option here so that I can wash my dog on the way home from the beach or dog park, where he can sometimes get really dirty. I also took my dog here to their pop-up Vet clinic that offers reasonable pricing for different shots and vaccinations. Granted you're doing these shots out in the open in front of everyone, but it's pretty simple and quick and easy, if you come early enough. I think the clinic is a pop up once a month and for about 2-3 hours only. read more

Sure beats trying to bath my pup in the tub! Nice that they have elevated stalls and the blower is strong enough to get super dry so no matting!! The staff here is always quick to greet my pup and me. When I do not have time to fit in a groom appointment for my pup, I like to wash him myself. Since I do not like messing up my guest bathroom doing so, I bring my pup to Unleashed. The wash and dry your own pup is a good deal. I think I paid less than 15 USD to wash and dry my pup. The store provides the towels, apron, soaps, and brushes. There is a loud air dryer for after the bath. The area is always kept clean despite this being a popular spot to wash your own dog. After washing your pup, give a free treat provided by the store. Or you can shop around amongst the numerous types of treats they sell. Also, there are so many let toys. Regularly, this store has sale items too. read more

I went to multiple stores looking for my dog's food which appears to be out everywhere. The store was packed with everyone trying to wash their dogs or make last minute holiday purchases. Clara was working the front, and she was doing a phenomenal job! Not only was she managing the rush of people but she was also giving excellent tips to a couple in front of me training their dog while helping them check out. My dog gets sick from every food except the one she eats. Clara made great recommendations, explained how to help her transition and stretch her current food until it was in stock again. She did this all with a smile on her face and wasn't stressed by how busy the store was. She's amazing and you can tell her love and care for animals - makes me feel like she loved mine like I do. Joey was a stinky stinky dog. His best friend Bailey, down the block, told him that his mother Leslie was taking him for a bath at Unleashed and I think the two of them would have hightailed it into the hills if we hadn't grabbed them and careened on up to Bressi Ranch. The dreaded b-a-t-h. This was the first time I used the tubs there and I thought it was just what the doctor ordered. They have 4 tubs at the far right side of the store. They hold very big dogs (there were two of them) and they put shelves with rubber pads for the smaller dogs (two of us). There's a small looped leash that hooks to a ring so the dogs don't slide around or try to jump off (which Joey tried, of course). The water gets warm really quickly and the spray strength is just right to soak them but not hurt them. Washing our dogs together was a hoot, and the dogs seemed a little calmer too. Joey kept looking over to see if Bailey was still there. The shampoo and conditioner (in retrospect) were organic and mild and Joey didn't scratch afterwards. They only have one blow dryer and it's over in the corner, so you have to lift your dog out of the tub and carry him to the bench. (The big dogs can just stand there while you blow dry them.) So I skipped that step and just dried off Joey really well with the two big towels that were offered. We've been having our heat wave in Carlsbad so it was a good day for this, and he was dry within the hour. Since Joey had a sensitive hip and I'm hesitant to take him to just anyone for grooming, this will do nicely in the interim. Right on Unleashed! read more

This store opened up earlier this week and what a great addition to the neighborhood. I was not sure what made this store different than a regular Petco but from what was explained to us, they only carry premium and organic pet foods and they also do not keep or sell pets at this store. We found everything that we usually buy for our cat Max with the exception of one of his crinkly turtle catnip toys that we have to replace monthly. Bummer - I have to go to the Carlsbad location just to get that thing? shoot! The staff here was very friendly but because they were having their grand opening, it was a little too chaotic for me. I look forward to having a pet store nearby that I can access easily but I'll probably wait for the crowds to die down a bit. It was packed today. Nice job Petco! Way to go catering to a unique customer segment - folks who want better dog food and no live animals in stores. Environmentally friendly types and dog huggers. Walked over after dinner - this is in a shopping center - and checked it out for first time. It's a mini Petco essentially with a subset of high end products and dog care services - wash your own pet. Really friendly staff who explained the difference between this store and big brother Petco. They do adoptions for pets but don't sell pets. I saw a cute toy for my dog and was pleased to learn my Petco Pals rewards card works here too - popped in my phone number and bam - I'm saving 25% on a new toy for my 13 yr old golden. It was a soft squishy one - she just likes to cuddle with them now. Oh and of course, pets are welcome to browse and pick out their own food and toys! You still have to pay (and they take Apple Pay so you can use your cool watch). read more

I absolutely love Unleashed! We have come here before to buy a couple of things and today we tried out their self serve dog washing station. We have two King Charles Cavilers and a huge Shepherd Hound Mix and our dogs have never been so clean or soft! The shampoos and conditioners that they provide are great. It usually takes forever to dry our fur babies off at home, but the industrial drier did it in no time. We also love how everything is provided from soap to brushes to even aprons. They even clean up the mess!The staff are so friendly here, and helped us a lot. While most of their products are on the pricey side they all work very well. But these are no cheap grocery store products. These are high-end, high-quality,pet friendly products. Stuff like Kong Extreme and Top Paw. We will definitely come back. read more

Took my pup here solely for the Self-Wash station on our way home from the Dog Beach. My dog normally doesn't like baths, but cleaning him here was a breeze because they have tall walk-in tubs. For $10 flat you get a bath, apron, shampoo, conditioner, brushes, two towels and a hair dryer. After running around in the sand and saltwater, you can't beat getting a quick bath out of the way here on your way home. The staff was friendly and helpful since it was my first time here. Only reason it's not a 5-star review is because I was disappointed in the shampoo/conditioner. They were both completely watered down, so there really wasn't much cleaning product in them. Other than that, I'd recommend this place to other dog owners. We'll definitely be returning whenever we go to the Dog Beach again! read more

This review is for the self washing station - Each stations are clean and tidy with available shampoo, conditioner, towels, and brushes for your pet. One station is designed for smaller dogs and three for larger size dogs. After you're done washing, there's a separate station for blow drying. The dryer is powerful and reduced the time it took for me to dry my dog significantly. I have a chow chow with two layers of coat and It usually takes me around one and half hour to blow dry her at home. With the commercial size dryer at Unleashed, it took me 30 mins to completely dry my chow chow. One thing I would say for improvement is to move the dryer off the grooming table as it took up a lot of space. For the price of $10, we will definitely come back to use the washing stations at Unleashed. read more

Envision for a moment that any given pet store eliminated all the junky Ol' Roy food, cruddy rubber chicken squeakers, poorly constructed stuffed toys, and second rate dog products, but still kept the prices down. Then walk into Unleashed. It's virtually all the quality dog products from each major manufacturer under one roof. I really enjoyed walking through the aisle and seeing that many of the products had the best intentions for owner's pets. I grabbed the Pawsitive Experience (?) box which had a little sample of everything (training treats, stuffingless toy, a karma treat ball, a large splinterless wood chewstick, Kong Wubba, and other stuff I can't recall). We lingered in the store for quite some time assessing the best food for our kid dog. The addition of the self service dog wash is intriguing... I'm eager to try it out next opportunity (simply because I hate dealing with washing the towels/tub afterwards). Looking forward to posting more about this in the future! read more

Considering I've been coming here since June and all ya'll fancy people are re-reading this I figured I should add an update. I'm surprised at the lesser reviews - I still REALLY enjoy coming here and find the staff extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I was actually just there yesterday giving my girl a bath - I pop in here every couple or three weeks to use the bath and of course, generally end up buying a treat or a new toy for her to destroy shortly thereafter. I think most of the staff knows me and recognizes Petunia right away and they always ask about her skin (the first couple of months she was breaking out from allergies etc so I spent a LOT of time talking to everyone). I really like their bathtubs the best - I've gone to one of the other local places that offers the baths and you have to actually hoist your dog into the tub unlike here, where they can walk, jump or even use a ramp/stairs if needed (supplied on request) to get in on their own. I find the tub is the perfect height, and again, unlike other spots you have full access to both sides of the dog without having to attempt to turn the dog back and forth. Also it's less tortuous for her to bathe here with warm water then in the yard all the time with a cold hose. I do bring my own shampoo and ear cleaner with me but they DO supply some goodies. Their prices aren't cheap but it is a corporate store - and of course they're selling higher quality items. I've never been pushed to try a specific brand, just been educated on the differences between them. I was even informed of a 3rd party website that offers unbiased reviews and nutritional breakdowns of all the dog foods so that I could come to my own conclusions. FIRST! Nice to have a pet store within walking distance from home. Now when I need anything for my corgis I have a perfect destination to walk them to. Also conveniently located by Stater Bros and various dog friendly eateries (outdoor seating areas). Other than antlers to chew on, this store had all my dogs' regular necessities- shampoo (TropiClean), bully sticks, and their brand of food, Solid Gold. Store clerks were friendly and helpful. It's super awkward giving my dogs a bath in our tub at home and I always end up making a mess; I might try the self-service grooming this winter to treat my dogs to a warm wash instead of getting hosed down outdoors. We live in a condo, which doesn't lend itself to washing our pooches easily at home. While Unleashed is a great small neighborhood pet store, we go here specifically for their well-priced and excellent self-serve dog wash setup. We have a Sunday ritual of Dog Beach, then Unleashed - we've tried several dog washes in North County, but none are set up as well as Unleashed. Specifically: (1) the staff is very friendly. I've been to some dog washes where the owners are very "hurried" and aren't very helpful (2) there is usually an open tub, or I might have to wait 5 minutes (3) It's the easiest tub and spigot setup around - I like that it's 360 degrees so I can walk around my two 70+ lb dogs for a thorough cleaning/rinsing. The height is also just right. (4) Their shampoos, brushes, towels and sprays are of good quality and always clean and availalbe. (5) It's 10 bucks a dog, and if you're a PALS member, you accumulate points toward a free dog wash. (6) They have monthly specials...for instance, in May, they have "Wash Me Wednesdays", when the dog wash is half off! Needless to say, this is my favorite place to go for squeaky-clean dogs with not a lot of hassle or expense. read more

Unleashed is very convenient for me as I work just down the road from the store. I have been in only a few times and have been very pleased with my overall experiences. The staff is great and are always in good spirit. I had a young lady help me out both times with my purchases for my new cat. She provided excellent customer service and most of all she was able to relate to my situation with a new cat and a harness. I was looking for a harness and she had recommended one that came with a bungie lead. Since my cat has taken small steps with using the new harness she has become very comfortable with venturing out and establishing her territory. Thank you!! The prices are a little high but that's ok with me as you pay for what you get - quality and convenience. The store is small shop that carries a smaller selection than a huge pet super store. It's a good grab and go place for quick basic items. I saw some rants on here about a few things that sound pretty ridiculous. I realize this location is in Bressi Ranch/Carlsbad and you tend to find high maintenance people around there. Coming from a realists point of view Unleashed is great little shop with great staff. If your looking for some really rare or speciality item, this might not be the place for you. read more

This store is in a very busy shopping center. I like that they have no live animals. The employees are friendly and helpful. I was looking for new cat litter. The manager recommended a brand and I bought it. Unfortunately it's scented when I specified I only wanted unscented. I had to schlep it back for a refund. I would return here. First my review only pertains to the dog washing area. I went to this one after being a regular at the delmar one. I wasnt too impressed due to the fact that this one isnt as nice. they only have one dryer here so u have to wait in line or let ur dog leave wet. My husband and I bought a litter box roughly 2 1/2 months ago for our new kitten. The cat came out of the litter box today and one side of the flap broke off. We went into the store and asked if we could have a replacement or purchase just the door. While the gentleman at the front was helping us another employee came over with an attitude and said we needed to purchase a whole new top unit. The cost for a new top would be $30, which we just spent 2 1/2 months ago. We we're not trying to get the piece for free and it being a Petco brand product we were hoping they would stand behind the quality of their items. Between her attitude and the price there was no way we were purchasing a new one. It is very unfortunate that they don't like to take care of their customers as this is where we purchased everything for our pet and continued to purchase our monthly supplies. Although we are happy to have a pet store in our neighborhood, I think that this place has missed the mark. First, They do not carry premium dog food that you would find at a place like Pet Nutrition Center. They only carry the major brands, not necessarily the high end brands. Second, They do have dog washing stations, which is nice for the do it yourself people, but they don't have a dog groomer! WHAT?!!?! We were so hoping for a neighborhood groomer, which would have been convenient. On the plus, they do have all of the treats that we like to buy our dogs, and they have a great selection of toys, leashes and everything else you would need for your pet.
