My CKD senior pup is very picky and the usual food I get was out of stock, the staff there was so helpful in finding another brand that he might like. If your in the market for any specialty food or treats, I highly recommend this place. Finding low phosphorus options is very few and in between and having a knowledgeable staff really helps with the stress. My senior dog was recently diagnosed with renal failure and refused to eat her prescription food... and any food at this point besides chicken. My vet recommended Dexter's Deli as another option to look into for kidney safe foods. The worker who helped me was so sweet and reviewed a binder they have that listed kidney friendly food. I wish I could recall the worker's name but she was so empathetic and shared that her cat had kidney issues as well and understood what I was going through with my pet's pickiness. She gave me some generous free samples to provide my pet variety and wished me luck. I'm happy to report that her recommendations worked because my dog was interested in eating again and I was able to transition her onto the prescription food. This review is for the mobile pet dental services this business hosts (Qualified Pet Dental). It's run by vets and techs and they do shot clinics as well! It took 6 months of bonding with Cali and getting her comfortable with me to bring her for a cleaning; she came to me with yellow and black teeth and bad breath. We've been doing pig ears and other chews, but she needed something more. Several dogs are treated at once in the van; they do a 7-step process that includes cleaning below the gum line and a polish at the end. I hovered because I was afraid she would be evicted mid-session; they said she was nervous but did great. I witnessed her bounce out of the van; I got back a totally different dog! She's been extra happy and goofy ever since her appointment. I noticed a huge improvement in her teeth; they gave me a chart of her mouth just like humans get. I was sent home with a gel and antiseptic spray for her gums. They gave me a pro tip I might do next time: make her appointment at another Dexter's Deli so I don't ruin this as her happy place. She did go in the deli to choose a treat after, all super proud and happy, so the flip side is, she might be extra nervous if I take her to a location that's unfamiliar. I brought Koda in and the gentleman that helped me was super nice, knowledgeable, explained everything I was getting in Koda's doggie bag! We have been going to Dexter's for years, first with our Pit Bull mix Dakota, then with our Blue Heeler Phoenix. Last week, our latest adoptee, a Heeler/Chihuahua mix named Connor, came home with us from his foster parent at SPOT Animal Rescue in Oceanside. Our SPOT representative told us "Go to Dexter's - they support us and give each pet adopted from us a welcome bag. So we took our new doggo in, grateful for the samples they might give us. Imagine our surprise when they loaded us up with all kinds of goodies - wet food, dry food, kibble, a bag of training treats, a food supplement (yummy goodies to pour over his food) and a full armload of loving belly rubs! They stock a brilliantly reliable selection of Pup Cakes and chilled treats for your dogs and cats, along with an excellent selection of high quality foods, snacks, treats, toys,  accessories, etc for our beloved "kids with fur"! Dexter's is seriously like a cross between Whole Foods and Macys for animals!  All of their stuff is extremely high quality, with a First Rate Staff to match! I truly LOVE how they expertly take time and care with each customer to make sure that every detail of pampering our four legged family members is done with the utmost LOVE! They totally know their stuff when it comes to animal care! This year Madonna had a huge birthday party with over 10 guests. Dexter's did her cake beautifully (see my pics/vid). Everyone at the party was raving about her wonderful personalized birthday cake. So much so that they even tried tasting it (the brilliant staff at Dexter's said that it's safe for human consumption, thank goodness) over the yummy Tiramisu Cake that I got for them at Gelson's! If that doesn't say brilliance then I don't know what does. So I've now decided to  make Dexter's my go-to place for Madonna's every day celebrations, not just her annual party one. A friend of mine advised me to go here for some advice and products to help my dog with his anxiety. What a great place! The customer service is impeccable, and everyone who works there is so knowledgeable about their products. I'm trying some CBD serum for my dog, and if it doesn't work out after a few doses, I can bring it back for exchange or a refund! What! Jaw dropped the moment I walked in. No, I take that back, the moment I drove up. Super easy to spot. Huge private parking lot. Very convenient off the freeway. The exterior already won me over, let alone I walk in and see it's like a TOYS R US for dogs. Cute stuffed toy overload on top of everything you can possibly think or dream of. They checked ALL the boxes for any dog or cat owner. It was one of those stores where I just wanted to buy everything! My head said yes, my heart said yes, but the wallet said NO, please NO. I loved the presentation of everything, so clean, organized and they had thee best birthday section. If your fur baby is celebrating a birthday, say no more. Come here for not only the cutest cake, cupcakes or ice cream/gelato but also party hats, bandana's, crowns, ahhhh i'm screaming. It was so cute. I ended up leaving with a gold crown for my king and a cake that they can customize it for you. So affordable, reasonably priced and I guess even humans can eat the goodies?? Many of your toys are large and durable, which are great for our fur babe. We also like your selection of dog collars, bow ties and flexible leashes. Let's not forget that you have the largest selection of birthday party supplies, including birthday hats, cupcakes and cakes in popular flavors such as peanut butter. In 2018, Kindle got many compliments on his emoji bow tie in the New Year. He indulged in the mini cupcakes for his birthday in November. He participated in a competition with his expandable leash, which was so flexible, it allowed him to make new friends easily. However, the highlight of the year was the most recent purchase of the jumbo holiday gnome. We call him his homie his gnomie. He drags him around the house wherever he goes. The selection was a hit! My 15 year old Boxer, Elie, has hip dysplasia and pain. I went into Dexter's, on the desperate side, knowing I needed something for her but not exactly sure what. The sales lady (dang that I didn't ask her name!) walked me through several products, asking this and that, to determine which would be best for Elie. I actually picked up a very expensive CBD product. My Sales Lady reviewed it and said that the next product down in price would be more suited for Elie. My Sales Lady could have gotten more money from me because I was stressed to help Elie with her pain but she didn't. She help me find the best products that would help Elie. She also offered some more suggestions incase what I bought didn't help and how long I had to return them if they didn't work. I so appreciate the staff at Dexter's Carlsbad.
