I've been coming here for years to ensure I'm getting my dogs the best food for them. Today I took my girl in to pick out some toys and treats for her birthday and the lovely staff made the shopping experience so fun for her. From everyone working greeting her right away & wishing her a happy birthday, to treats at the counter and even a birthday bandana- it was such a fun day letting her pick out some things and finding donuts and birthday cake flavored treats. First and foremost, I have been a customer for decades and had many, many types of pets that we would buy necessities for. Kahoots - It's local and closest to me, yet is one of the most inconvenient for me the last few years. I am not saying they are doing anything wrong, I am just saying that so often when I need to grab something from there, they are closed. Also, I do not really see the benefit of shopping here than other places... I am here at least once a month and haven't necessarily had any experience that made it seem better than going to Petco or Petsmart other than Kahoots being a little bit closer. Oftentimes it's 8pm when all my other obligations are taken care of before I can run to any store. Then here I am in front of their store right now on Easter day and they are closed for the entire day. It's not that I don't celebrate Easter, it's that it's just less dependable of a business when I need something and I can't depend on them. Again, they do what they do and I am sure other people will have better schedules than I and can continue to support them. Or perhaps they see the value of Kahoots. As I am sitting here in front of their door, there are other people walking up and trying to be a customer, but they are turned away. In short, our schedules conflict and I need to find another source of pet supplies that works better for me. read more

I confess to being way too fond of convenient, one-stop-shopping at big-box stores. being a bit agoraphobic, a lingering effect of the Covid lockdown, I enjoy Amazon shopping and having things "magically" appear on my front porch. thank goodness for dog walks or I might never leave the house. hell, if there was a mini-fridge in the master, I might never get outta bed except when the pizza delivery guy's at the door. I love this store. It happens to be a chain store (there are about 20 of them in SoCal) but it feels like one of a kind. They aren't huge, but I've never failed to find what I need there. They have quality stuff. Every employee that I've ever dealt with has been outstanding. Helpful, knowledgeable, attentive, upbeat. I wonder how they do it? Most stores are desperate for staff. This is my first time to this location. In need for our pets some canned dog food and food toppers. As other Kahoots the store is very spacious and stocked well. The employees are very helpful and very friendly. Everything is easy to find, organized and categorized. When we do bring out pets into the store it is nice to know that there's room for them to roam while leashed with plenty of room. Our visit was quick, the store was empty so we were able to find our needs and check out in a flash. I would definitely return to this store. read more

We love shopping at small neighborhood pet stores. Kahoots stocks the one dog food flavor that my finicky dachshund will eat. Its 50c cheaper per can than another local pet store. They have a large variety of brands. They do not have bird food for large parrots. The staff are friendly and helpful. Parking is directly in front of the door. Store is clean. read more

Let me just say, I've been a petco lover my whole life. Petco was my way to go. BUT. I needed a specific dog food brand because my dog has over thirty allergies and it was getting SO difficult and I was getting desperate. Not only does kahoots have TONS of options (I'm talking 30 +options) but the girl who helped me , Marie, was incredibly helpful and patient with me . I am very thankful because I've as at the end of my rope but she and I went through ingredient lists and actually found a good that works and I've seen a difference in my sweet boy!! Saw an episode of LOCALIST SD on TV. The owners of KAHOOTS pet stores was on saying how much they cared about our animals and offered a free 4.5 lb container of dog food for the dog who is very finicky. I am worried about my dog as she is not liking a lot of foods lately. Being disabled and on a strict budget a free sample of dog food that they highly recommended sounded so good to see if it was something I could put her on regularly if she liked it. The day after I saw the show I called the KAHOOTS location in Carlsbad to see what time they closed as it was New Years Eve and I would be on the way over. They said they were closing 5 hours early today and it was the last day of the free coupon. I Would NOT make it there in time due to them closing 5 hours early. I asked if they could honor the coupon the next day they opened and I would be there when they opened. She put me on hold to ask the manager and came back and simply said NO. I guess they really don't care about our dogs not to even honor the coupon 1 extra day even though by closing 5 hours early they did not even honor the complete length of the coupon. I explained my dogs issue, that I was disabled and on a strict budget. I was hoping this would be the food that she would like and make her healthy. They just said NO and that's it. Being a manager for over 40 years I have always honored coupons at least a few days past the expiration to help people as well as get new customers. What did they have to lose by exceeding the customers expectations?? What they did show are their true colors that they weren't really concerned about my animal. They were more concerned about the $2 cost they may lose by extending the coupon for me in my situation by one single day. If they were open their normal hours I would have made it there. They offered ZERO alternative. I was just hoping to find a food my dog would eat and become a regular customer. That will never happen now as I see they really have no empathy for human beings looking to help their pet. Don't believe them when they act like they care. OH WELL. I will let everyone I know how awful they really are and pretending to care is just an act. Honestly they could have said yes with no skin off their back and made a new customer for life. I will also contact LOCALIST SD TV show to let them know how I was treated and they should vet these companies before they endorse them. read more

Great place to get dog food that isn't made from auto coolant in China. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. You get the sense that these are animal lovers too and won't intentionally steer you wrong. We bring our dog in so he can pick out a new toy for himself, but he's starting to piss me off. He only likes the $20 toys -- the $5 or $10 variety are no longer of interest. And then he brings the new toy home and either destroys it, or loses it. I went to Kahoots looking for a specific food item for my cat. He was recently diagnosed with Feline Idiopathic Cystitis. The vet said he needed to be on wet food only and should be water based. I've seen many IG cat videos and see kitties slurping down, what looks like kitty gogurt. Turns out it's a product called Inaba CIAO. Kahoots was a store that come up showing the sold it. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by a worker named Jordan. She wasn't familiar with the diagnosis but when I explained it to her, she knew exactly what I needed. Didn't push for me to buy everything, just pointed out options. She suggested that I give my cat (baby) plain Greek yogurt (probiotic)after he was done with his antibiotic. She took the time to look up what was safe for him. A little extra touch. By the way, I totally recommend Inaba CIAO. My boy doesn't eat it from the tube though. He's on the spoiled side and requires I feed him with a spoon. read more

After buying my dog food here for almost a year roughly ever 3 weeks I buy a 28# bag. I found out that the food manufacturer has a buy 12 get on free. I ask if they partake in that and said yes we do. I asked why they didn't tell me that in the first place considering I need to save the UPC code to redeem my free bad. Staff said they are not allowed to offer this to customer. Why would I want to shop somewhere that doesn't support their customer that spend a lot of money with them? Kahoots has NO loyalty program what so ever. You're better off going to Dexters Deli which has knowledgeable staff, offers you in store reward as well as manufacturers reward. Mind you Dexters Deli has the same prices & is just one shopping center over. read more

They have some of their own brands- my pup loves the limited ingredient wet beef food, and their probiotics work well. The staff is always knowledgeable and friendly. This review is a few weeks later than I had planned due to some circumstances out of my control, HOWEVER, I really hope Management at Kahoots takes notice of this! A few weeks back I visited your store and had the pleasure of being helped by a wonderful employee named Kai. I had a handful of questions that I asked her and without skipping a beat she managed to not only answer them, but to go above and beyond in literally every way possible. This was only the second time I had ever been in your store because it is a little out of the way from where I now live. With that being said, I decided to visit and see what you guys had since I was over near you guys anyways that day. I'm so glad that I did. Kai was a huge, HUGE help when I went into the store while waiting for my medication to be filled at the pharmacy next door. I explained to her what I was looking for (even though I did a pretty crumby job of explaining it, and she still managed to help me find not only what I was looking for, but something even better! And after she finished helping me we ended up talking about my dog for a little while and I could tell she was generally interested in hearing what I had to say. That was a really cool feeling and solidified the fact that I will certainly be bringing any and all business back to your store in the future. Furthermore, it came to my attention that Kai was fairly new at that location & I was completely shocked because she not only knew the location of every item I asked about, but she could also tell me the "in's and out's of what would be best for my little four legged friend as well!! Just recently, I shopped, for the first time, at the Kahoots Pet Store located at 2616 El Camino Real in Carlsbad where I saw a poster advertising pet dental cleaning for a fraction of the amount I was used to paying. The cleanings are performed by professionals and are conducted about two times per month and, needless to say, an appointment is required. And, as you might imagine the appoints fill-up quickly. So, if your a pet owner looking for a less expensive option for the pet's dental care know that Kahoots is certainly well worth a look. I love Kahoots! When I travel around San Diego I can find a location easily and pick up treats, a toy or our dog food. The stores are always clean and super organized - which is part of the reason I shop there. They have a good selection and the staff are truly knowledgeable. Don't ever shop at the big box retailers for pet items. Kahoots is great for the more consumable products, however, I think they could broaden the accessories for pets section of their store! read more

The lady who works here was taking good care of the animals. Clean and well organized store. Lots of pet toys for your fur babies. They sell live pets too- I saw tortoises, guinea pigs, birds, and a small selection of betta fish. No other fish nor aquatic plants, though. Good selection of food plus lots of accessories for dogs, cats, guinea pigs, turtles, reptiles, birds, and fish. I used to be a HUGE fan of the other local pet shop but they never seem to have ANYTHING I need for my fur babies. Kahoots HAS EVERYTHING (Except Vital Essential *cough* hint *cough*). Everyone there is super nice and helpful and you can definitely do damage there. Our bi weekly pick ups are: Weruva: B.F.F & Cats in the kitchen Tiki Cat: Born Carnivore Dry food Primal Freeze Dried Nuggets Lucy's Cats Incredible litter (by far the BEST litter I have used and I have used many! Even "worlds best cat litter"...it's not) They also always have samples of treats, my felines are hella picky. They carry a lot of different toys. The only thing I don't like is that they don't have a lot of options for collars. I like to change them up every now and then but other than that, they are always in stock. I love coming here and splurging on my kit's. Plus, it's nice to walk in a store that's not so bloody hot. read more

Every time I go I get equally disappointed. From the girls not knowing the simplest questions about dogs to not caring about customer service at all. Last time they wanted to charge me sales tax for a free bag of dog food. (But 10 get 1 free) How do you ring up sales tax when the total of the sales is zero?? I had to call the company that offered it and they said of course you shouldn't pay sales tax. But still they refused. I even think it's illegal to collect sales tax for an item you don't sell?? I went to Kahoots for a harness due to a hot spot covering Micah's neck. Shadowridge Vet highly recommeded them and I'm so glad they did. They measured him and made sure his harness fitted perfectly. Kahoots held a low cost, non-aesthetic teeth cleaning and vaccine day recently, where they brought in a local veterinarian who performed the services. We brought our dog in for his first teeth cleaning, and the results are amazing! She sat on the floor with our dog on her lap, and carefully cleaned each tooth with a machine. His teeth are so white now and his breath is fresh. It cost $175 for the entire teeth cleaning and exam. We will definitely be bringing our dog back for his next teeth cleaning. In addition to these affordable services, the staff at Kahoots is always so friendly and helpful, and Kahoots offers a great selection of food, treats, and toys! read more
