Today was our first day at Muddy Paws. I called and they were able to fit me in for a nail trim pretty last minute, although they said they did require an appointment ahead of time (so I guess no drop ins). I called to let them know my dog has anxiety and asked if two people could work on him (one reassuring him while the other cut the nails) and was told they could do whatever my dog needed. They also said I could bring in my dogs favorite treat to try and use for distraction. When we arrived I explained the situation to the women in the salon (I spoke to a man on the phone)--that this was my dogs first nail trim and that he is timid and has some anxiety, and also that I am a little bit of a Helicoptor mom! He is a rescue pup and I worry about him. They were very understanding! Monique loved on and distracted my dog while Brianna, the owner, performed the nail trim. Monique was super sweet to my dog! Very focused on him. Brianna got right to it and most importantly cut his nails with no injuries, but she was also very fast. They cut the nails and then dremmeled them so they don't splinter. The cost was $23 which was WELL worth it! SO much better than me stressing out trying to do it myself and probably hurting my dog bc I don't know what I'm doing. The whole process was great! Slammed with a $181 ticket on my way out ! Suddenly a $60 increase without notice to me. I'm counting the 20s I said "sorry no tip Not coming Back ! We've been going here with our dog for 4 years now. My dog is a little ~neurotic~ and they are all so kind and my dog actually likes all of the staff (which is a miracle, because she is a chihuahua with a small dog complex). They always do a great job with haircuts, baths and brush outs, and we recently took our two cats to get their nails trimmed there too. We love muddy paws! They did a great job with my giant breed, long-haired dog. Some groomers don't take on large dogs (size-ist!), but this crew didn't blink an eye. My dog takes some time because there's a LOT of fur, but she's very mellow and doesn't require fancy haircuts. The staff is so friendly, easy going, personable and kind. My dog is never stressed at Muddy Paws. They pay attention to detail since she has special needs. Kaluah is a Chow Chow/ Kelpie mix, and to manage her coat is a task and a half.. She gets a blueberry facial and a trim and all the love. They do a superb job. Hers the other thing I like about MP. Muddy Paws are great! I have a Samoyed and so I have always been very nervous when it comes to taking him to groomers, as I've heard many a horror story. We've been three times now, for a nail clip, sanitary cut, and a full wash and groom, and every time has been great. The staff are really nice and easy to talk to, and definitely put me at ease, as they know how to work with Samoyeds and dogs with under coats generally. If you're looking for a place to get your cats nails trimmed this is the place to go. It's so conveniently located and they are so nice, profession, and FAST. My 8 month old kitten Lady is a very nervous girl and it was her first time going to a groomer. On the phone the woman I spoke to was very nice and helped me pick an appointment time where there would be fewer dogs to make Lady more comfortable. We brought her in and she was out in 5 minutes. It was so fast we couldn't believe it and they told us it was because she was so good. She does NOT let us trim her nails so she must have had the magic touch. We were afraid shed be traumatized by the experience. We got home and she acted like nothing even happened. Honestly we were amazed at our experience and can't wait to bring her back! Muddy Paws was excellent! Making an appointment over the phone was easy and the customer service was great! We have 2 dogs and our older rescue Copper has separation anxiety and is very fearful of any new situations. They offered us multiple options for low stress times to take him in and we're very understanding when we decided that it would be too much stress for him. Our other dog Echo they were able to fit in the following week and did a great job! Echo is a Australian Shepard mix, and it's tough to get her hair clean on our own. Sometimes I forget how white her chest and paws can be! They brushed her teeth and trimmed her butt hairs into a very cute little pouf. Today was our first time going to Muddy Paws and it was also our last. We wanted to love this place as it is super convenient to where we live and they got us an appointment same day that we called. To start, when my husband arrived it was extremely chaotic with multiple dogs running around behind the counter off leash. My dog is very friendly and loves other dogs, but even for him the situation was overwhelming and instantly made him nervous for what was about to happen. They honored our appointment time, but took all of two minutes to cut my dog's nails. When we looked at his nails, they were jagged and barely cut down at all. My husband then asked for them to dremmel his nails to smooth them out so they wouldn't get caught on anything and the lady told him that it would be an additional cost because he didn't specify beforehand that he wanted our dog's nails cut and dremmeled...first of all we were never told there would be a difference and second of all we've never taken him somewhere that didn't dremmel them so we had no idea to even clarify. The lady was extremely rude to my very patient and understanding husband. I have never seen my husband so unpleased with a service. He literally left shaking with anger at how unprofessional and argumentative the worker was over something that was entirely their fault. Take your dog to Petco, even they will give you a better service then this place. read more

This place is pretty cool. They have an open area where the dogs can hang out while the others get pretty. It's nice that they're not in cages and able to roam around. They do have cubby-type things if the dogs need to be separated, but it's still not cages! They have decent pricing and my pup always looks so cute after getting her hurr did here. The dogs seem genuinely happy and that's what's important. Muddy Paws is always busy which is a great indicator of how good a place is. I highly recommend it and so does Olive. read more

I have always taken my shih tzu to Petco for grooming but after moving to Carlsbad and reading reviews I decided to give Muddy paws a chance. For $40 (cheapest I have EVER paid) Muddy Paws did her anal glands, ears, eyes, claws and gave her a really cute and even cut. At Petco I paid $45, but every 8th groom was free but the groom was never this great. I am impressed. Muddy Paws is busy, so you may have to call a week ahead of time. They took about 5 hours which is longer than I usually wait but they also did a much more detailed job. It was dog sitting while I ran my errands at no extra charge. read more

The price here is a bit stiff. I paid $46 to get my 10 lb. Yorkie groomed. That's the reason this place is 4 star and not 5 star. Having said that, they did a GREAT job on him. He can be difficult to deal with bc he doesn't not like his hair cut. I asked for them to shave him down to 1/2 inch and leave his head hair a bit longer. He also may have needed to be muzzled and petco and petsmart don't do this. As a result, they had always given him back half cut. Anyway, muddy paws was awesome with everything I asked and the people here are super friendly. I was really happy and will take him back here again next time :) Def recommend! read more

I took my two mid-sized dogs here for about two years due to location and pricing alone. I liked that they let the dogs roam around instead of being in a cage. Or so I was told... I dealt with the fur all lover the place (literally flying thru the air) and rather rude teens at the counter because I thought my dogs were being treated well. I started noticing a problem when I would pick my boys up. They seemed over anxious, had to pee for a really long time after leaving and were also terribly thirsty once we got home. Also, both being male dogs, I knew they were getting their glands expressed, but their rumps always seems really aggitated. One day I decided to come in a little early to pick them up. They had them both tied up on very short leashes inside one of their cubbies (BOTH dogs in ONE cubby!) As I walked in I saw one of the groomers being very rough with a small pup while trimming her little face, she was grabbing so hard and the poor dog was crying. I had to yell over all the noise from the dryers to get noticed (I can only guess how the noise made the dogs feel). I was ready to jump over the counter to rescue my poor boys from any further abuse when a young man finally noticed me. He dragged my boys to the front and handed me their leashes, I had to leash them myself after paying 100 bucks for this service! I finally realized why my dogs were so nervous whenever they went here. Trapped in a cramped hole with a leash so short they can't even lay down. No water, no attention, terribly loud noises for five hours and when they are being noticed, they are being tugged and pulled by their fur! UGH! I will NEVER take my boys here again! I've found the Bark Shoppe in Carlsbad Village. You can read my review for that groomer. All my concerns are in the past now. read more

I made an appointment last night for this morning . I have a 7 month terrier mix so they told me it would be 25 for first time and an extra 6 dollars to get his teeth cleaned. . I drop him off. No problem. I get a call an hour and half later telling me he is ready. He looks shiny and happy. Smells good. I get him in the car. I'm not one to complain. But this is my baby. I get home and notice he has red marks. Almost rug burn like marks on back two legs almost in same spots on both sides. I'm very upset. He is a very calm shy puppy. There is no way they struggled. I won't go back. I would not been so upset if they would have pointed it out to me when I picked him up. I don't understand. read more

First and last time. This place is a dump. Took my dog here and was stoked on the cheap price for grooming at 25, but for some reason they wouldn't do a full body cut for this special just the basics, face cut nails etc. But it's winter so I thought fine I'm sure they will trim the fur a little and keep it long(they didn't). I dropped my 3 pound Yorkie off at 10am, they told me it would take 4 HOURS!?! And come back then. So come back around 2, my dog of course just as I imagined is waiting for me in a cubby hole shaking watching other dogs get groomed. I asked the guy at the front how long he has been waiting since he's been done and he said 2 hours?! Are you kidding... I could of picked him up and took him safe and home. My poor pup had to spend his whole day at this dump. Never going back again. So unprofessional. read more

We recently took our 1 year old golden here because we found a coupon for a $20 wash and brush. We usually pay $14 at the DIY dog wash, so we decided another $6 for someone else to do it was WAY worth it. I asked when I called if since he's a big boy (70+ lbs) that it would cost more. They said no, and took us on the same day. The place is sandwiched in the shopping center near That Pizza Place in Carlsbad. It looked clean and I loved how they had little "cubbies" for the dogs to hang out in before/after they got groomed. We dropped him off and they were super friendly, and called us an hour later to tell us he's ready. We picked up Charlie from his wash and he looked ADORABLE. They trimmed his feet which I thought was awesome because although they were looking shaggy, I didn't think any cutting would be done with our $20 special. He looked happy to see us when we arrived and he was just "chilling" in the cubby area and was NOT in a crate! So we paid, and they told us to keep the coupon for next time, and gave us the $20 special anyway! We knew we'd be back after that. We took him back last week and had an even better experience. When we dropped him off, we asked for a tail trim, because our guy has QUITE the fluffy tail and it was getting out of control. I definitely thought they'd charge us for the trim, which was fine, because I still had the $20 coupon from last time. Anyway, the girl who groomed him was super nice, she was an Islander I think, and had facial piercings. She did a GREAT job, and gave us an update when we picked him up. Charlie was off-leash, just hanging out with the groomers when we walked in. It was so nice to see him 100% relaxed, even getting loved on by the groomers. At PetSmart, where we used to go, they'd have him in a crate for up to 4 hours, which I hated. At this place, if your pup is well behaved, they'll let them roam free or hang in the cubbies. How awesome is that? Now back to the grooming. They trimmed up his tail expertly and I even thought to myself that he looked like a showdog after leaving this place. They did his feet again, cleaned his ears, cut his nails, expressed his anals and trimmed his "butt fur" very nicely. He was so soft and he smelled great. And guess how much they charged us? Yep, $20. At Petsmart, this would have been at least $60, and he would have been in a crate 90% of the time. We were so impressed that I felt compelled to Yelp them, even though we've only been there twice. They are just the type of business I love to support - friendly, mom&pop style, and the type who goes above and beyond to satisfy the customers. Our puppy is our baby and we wouldn't settle for anything less than the best for him. That's why we'll be back here! read more

Zoinks - My dog was tucked into the far corner and crazy anxious to escape when I got there, which is unusual for him. Once outside I noticed that he was not shaved nicely but rather butchered as if someone gave him a "flowbee" haircut. There is a patch of hair on his belly that still hasn't grown back. His ears were filthy and I can only assume his anal glands were full since nothing except the haircut was done. Does that mean my dog sat in the cubby the whole day? Like other reviewers, he had to potty something fierce and was so thirsty when we got out to the parking lot. I don't expect a mile walk and a crystal goblet of water but are you kidding? I wanted to say something but as soon as I paid I was "dismissed" and could barely be heard over the blow drying and groomers talking and I hate confrontation as well. We stopped going here because every time we would pick up our cat- Tracy would tell us how horrible he was to groom and if it gets worse she wouldn't groom him anymore. We took him to a her because he hates getting groomed and I thought they are professionals. Don't get me wrong she is friendly, but really if you don't want my business- just say it- don't tell me how horrible it is to do the job you are charging me to do. Prior to Muddy Paws he went to Fortune Grooming- but she retired- she never had a problem with the cat. The final straw was that she had been bit by a dog therefore she warned me verbally and had signs up that said that if she is hurt by your animal you are financially responsible. After that we took the cat to Dippity Dog Wash. I tried to be proactive by bringing a small gift when I picked up the cat anticipating lots of complaints about his behavior. The groomer seemed surprised saying that he wasn't any trouble at all. Never once did they complain about him. read more

I came to Muddy Paws pressed for time after Petsmart on Marron refused to trim my dogs nails. (Long story, but she gets anxious and the last time it took them half an hour, and they still only got 3 paws trimmed. I asked for my money back, and now they have refused my dog due to their incompetency). Muddy Paws said that a drop in was perfectly fine for a nail trimming. I came in and warned them of her anxiety (she's a howling beagle, so they already could tell from her whimpering), and gave them a heads up about her sensitive dew claws and arthritis in her front legs. It takes two people to trim her nails. The one girl calmed and comforted her front end and held her body and the guy trimmed her nails faster than I have ever seen anyone do it. This is exactly what my Dixie needs. Seriously, it was done in 3 minutes. Fast and painless. I would definitely recommend Muddy Paws if your dog has anxiety about nail trimming and that is the service you need. It also cost a dollar less than Petsmart. read more

This pet grooming place is the only groomers i would feel comfortable taking my pet to. The staff is very friendly and the biggest thing also for me would have to be how the inside looks. Its nothing scary or special for the pets, its just RIGHT. I took my dog here a while ago and ill tell ya, this place get super busy! so to call in and make an appointment is a MUST! I got lucky and they gave me an automatic spot, it took them about 45min to finish grooming my dog, bath, teeth brushed and all that good stuff. My dog wasnt making any noises and seemed content with whatever treatment he was getting.
