I would not recommend this groomer. I have a 5 month corgi and explained to them that this would be…read morehis first time getting groomed. They told me they have groomers who can handle dog's first time getting groomed. Okay, perfect! So we set up an appointment. On the day of his appointment the groomer texted four minutes before the appointment was going to start that she would be late and she would be there an hour and forty five minutes later. Now I know things happen, but to text that four minutes before the appointment is to start is extremely unprofessional. This should have been our sign to cancel the appointment entirely. I let them know that would not be possible as we had plans for later that night. She then suggested the next day. I told her again no we wouldn't be able to because we had appointments the next day. Again this was probably the universe telling us to just cancel the appointment altogether. All of a sudden she says she can be here by 3:30 P.M. I asked if she really could be here by that time and she said yes so we said yes okay let's continue with the appointment. BIG MISTAKE. The groomer gets here and she acknowledges that this would be his first time getting groomed. We told her yes and let them know he does not like getting his nails cut, doesn't like the blow dryer, etc. She said ok. She asked us how we wanted to do his hair and we said we can go shorter and to make his nails as short as possible. An hour later she lets us know he's done. We go down to get him and he looks like a completely different dog. I'm shocked at how he looks. She basically shaved him down almost to the skin. I felt like she was also trying to guilt us because she also kept saying how he was nervous and scratched and bit her. But that's why you were warned from us and the appointment guide that this was his first grooming experience and that he would be nervous and take the proper precautions with him. I feel like that wasn't the case and she shaved him down and rushed through it. We couldn't really inspect him then and there because like I said we had plans for later that night. But looking at him the next day we noticed how uneven and how shocking this haircut really is. You can see the shaver marks and how uneven it is. He really looks like a different dog. I called today because this isn't right and spoke to a receptionist. She said did I want the head groomer to come and fix it? How can they fix it? He basically has no hair left if they tried to fix it. So she said they could offer a 20 percent off discount for our next service. I was honest and said that his hair is probably going to take a long time to grow back and I will never use them ever again. So we kinda sat in silence and I asked if there was an additional discount they could give. She told me that she would have to ask the head groomer and she would text me. After not hearing back from her I ended up calling back. She said that they could offer an addition 5 percent off. Whatever percentage off isn't enough. I don't think whoever the groomer was could handle first time grooming with puppies. And I do not think that's enough for what they put our dog through. I hope he isn't scarred for the rest of his life against getting groomed. Do not recommend this groomer at all. Try a different mobile grooming if you can.

I've brought my 14-year-old Golden Retriever here for grooming 6 or 7 times over the past several…read moreyears because it's conveniently located and they've always done good work. On my most recent visit, however, our bill had increased by about 35%, including a $20 "infrequent grooming" fee. I understand businesses need to raise prices, but this fee caught me off guard because we bathe and brush our dog between appointments. When I dropped my dog off, I jokingly said, "Everything the same as last time... except the infrequent grooming fee." I intended it as lighthearted feedback, not a confrontation. Instead, the owner immediately responded by telling me I was welcome to go somewhere else. The conversation quickly became heated. I'll own my part in that. I wasn't perfect either. But what disappointed me most wasn't the fee itself; it was how quickly a simple comment was met with defensiveness rather than a conversation. As a repeat customer, I hoped my feedback would at least be heard. Ironically, I think there's an easy solution. Instead of adding an "infrequent grooming" surcharge, why not simply offer a loyalty discount to customers who come in more often? The end result is similar, but it feels like rewarding customers instead of penalizing them. To be fair, they do decent quality grooming, and I have no complaints about the care my dog received. Unfortunately, after this interaction, I was asked to take my business elsewhere. We've since found another groomer we're very happy with. I genuinely wish them well. My only advice is that customer feedback, even when you disagree with it, is worth listening to. UPDATE: Thank you for your response. If you were looking to come across as confrontational, argumentative, and defensive, well, then you nailed it.

***Updated in response to the owner's reply:…read more The owner's response reinforces our concern about how this business handles customer issues. We are extremely disappointed by our most recent grooming experience at Cali Pets. We had used this business twice before and previously had positive experiences grooming our two wooly-coated huskies, which is why this outcome was so upsetting. Our dogs have long, thick coats that can mat quickly during seasonal changes, especially in spring. Our male husky, Arkin, is particularly prone to matting around the belly and sides. Because of this, we sometimes trim down problem areas at home before bringing him in, with the goal of preventing larger sections of the coat from becoming impacted while still preserving as much of his fur as possible. That is also what we expected from a professional grooming visit: help managing difficult areas while saving as much coat as reasonably possible. Before this appointment, we had already trimmed much of the fur on his belly and sides, while most of his back remained intact. When we picked him up, we were shocked to find that he had been shaved down almost entirely, including areas that we did not believe required that level of removal. In our view, this was an unnecessarily extreme result, especially in April and especially for a senior dog. Equally concerning was the lack of communication throughout the appointment. Both of our dogs were scheduled that morning. After waiting about 30 minutes, we were told our male dog would need to come back later. We adjusted our day and returned him at approximately 2:30 pm. Around 3:45 pm, we were told he would take longer than expected and would miss the originally quoted pickup window of 4:30-5:00 pm. After that, we did not receive a proper update. The shop closed at 5:30 pm, our calls later went to voicemail, and by after 6:30 pm we were concerned enough that we drove there ourselves to make sure everything was okay. When we arrived, we were told the staff had taken a break and were still finishing up. When we finally saw our dog, the result was far more severe than anything we had expected or would have agreed to had it been clearly explained in advance. We also disagree with several points in the owner's public response. In particular, it is not accurate to say service was refused. Both dogs were scheduled, and we were instructed to bring our male dog back later due to how the appointment was being handled. We also do not agree that this exact outcome was the only possible option. For reference, the three photos we included were posted to show context. One shows our pup before his appointment to give a sense of the length of his coat even when cut down significantly already. Another shows the result after this grooming visit. The third shows an example from a prior at-home trim, included to demonstrate that in the past we have been able to cut down problem areas while still preserving substantial fur rather than taking nearly the entire body down to the skin. That comparison is exactly why this result was so upsetting to us. If such an extreme shave was truly the only humane option, that should have been communicated clearly and directly beforehand. Had that been explained to us in plain terms, we would have declined and made a different decision for our dog. We are sharing our experience so other pet owners can make an informed decision. We have included before-and-after photos, as well as examples of prior trims done at home for comparison.
