Had a great first experience at Universal Grooming. They did an amazing job with my dog, and the service was top-notch. Highly recommend them if you are looking for a reliable, caring, and skilled groomer in the area. We've finally found our new regular spot. read more

(I'd prefer a 0 rating): Avoid this groomer. On July 3, 2026, I brought my Miniature Australian Shepherd to Universal Pet Care on Mosholu Avenue for a basic bath and nail clip only. I gave the owner/groomer explicit instructions that NO hair was to be cut, trimmed, clipped or shaved (ex between her paw pads). She violated these directives and made a mess of my dog''s coat. Her coat has been clipped short and unevenly; the long dense feathers on her belly and legs have been trimmed and thinned raggedly, and entirely cut away between her hind legs; she was given a rough blunt sanitary trim; there are blotchy areas that are chopped to less than 1/2"; her head and legs have been shaved, and her ears cut lopsidedly; and her long thick ruff is cut short and thinned. Ironically the hair between her paw pads was not touched; I told the owner this is the one area where she could be trimmed. She didn't even brush her out; she has been shedding all over my furniture. The owner denies she did anything more than bathe her (and says she has a video to prove it). This is simply not true; my dog's coat is proof enough (and I have taken photos to document it). I have consistently worked to preserve my dog's thick, full-bodied coat and dense, long feathers. The quality of her double coat has been compromised, as have the insulation and protection it offers. It will take months with careful, consistent grooming for it to return- I hope- to its natural state. If you want your dog's naturally lush double coat preserved, and your instructions followed with honest communication, avoid this business. read more

I brought my little Billy in today for grooming. He's a Havanese & shih-tzu mix. Norelly and her team did a great job with him. He's sometimes nervous but she said there were no issues, and he seemed very happy and excited to show off his new haircut. Highly recommend this place! read more

Did an amazing and quick nail clipping on my dog! My shih tzu mix is extremely nervous when it comes to his paws. The service was quick and safe. Will make this my permanent dog grooming place! read more

This place is very nice. The woman is super sweet and is the only staff member I've even seen at the business. Be very specific with what you want. I wasn't and ended up with my dog having an extremely low/buz cut. They always do great work. They usually keep our dogs 1.5 -2 hours. The payment it weird. They do not accept card only cash/Venmo/zelle. That's the weirdest part. Also the pricing seems to vary. One time I paid 45 and one time I paid 65. Good services, weird Payment/pricing. read more

Universal Pet Care - Fresh cut for my puppy. - Pet Groomers Near Me - Bronx, New York

I brought my 4 year old ShiPoo here based on all the rave reviews on Yelp and one personal recommendation. I am highly disappointed to say it is the absolute worst grooming my dog has received in four years. For starters, the groomer was 45 minutes late and had my daughter waiting outside in the cold rain with our dog. We understood our dog was matted and she would require a short haircut - however - the groomer basically shaved our dog down like a skinless cat and made zero effort to actually brush our dog. My dog's once fluffy tail now looks like a think little stick. Lastly, since the groomer couldn't shave my dog's face down like she did the rest of her body, she trimmed her face quite unevenly (one side of the face has longer hair than the other). We will NOT be returning here ever. Not sure what everyone else is/was raving about sadly. I only came here because we moved from Westchester to the Bronx and the trips back up to Hartsdale (my dog's original great groomer) were becoming quite a mission. Lesson learned. Back to Hartsdale we will go for the sake of our beautiful dog. read more

We drove past this place once and I wanted to find a cheaper place to get my dog groomed. The groomer here is so nice! She had a great way with my dog (a Pomeranian mutt of some kind) and I love the way she trimmed him. His fur is kind of weird and usually you can see the tracks when he gets shaved down from the razor. But she did a great job and I can't see any tracks at all. We will definitely be coming back here. She is my new go to groomer! (I paid $60 + tax to get my 14lb dog groomed and if you pay with a card then there's no tipping option, so be sure to bring cash to tip) read more

Very good experience, very friendly staff, great place to bring your dog . Normally when I pick my puppy up after her appointments she is very nervous but when I got her this time she was very excited and happy :)! She looked adorable, very clean with a nice even hair cut :). She also smelled very fresh but at the same time delicate and not like chemicals. I am very happy and will definitely come back . read more

Universal Pet Care - My 7.5 month old Maltese after her cut :), she even got a lil Bow! - Pet Groomers Near Me - Bronx, New York

NEVER RETURNING!So I went to this place super last minute to get a haircut for my pup who's a mix with Bichon frise and toy poodle. His hair was already a bit long and some knotted spots and they shaved his whole fur off! I specifically told them the inspo for the haircut and because to them it was too knotty they trimmed everything off, my dog looks completely different. Also, I've gone to get his grooming before and it has never once happened where they just cut off all the hair, they dematt it but I guess universal pet care doesn't believe in that. Very bad experience with them I will not be going back! Highly do not recommend if your dog has certain type of long hair because they will just do what they want with them! AND THEY CUT HIM UNDER HIS ARM WITH THE MACHINE USED FOR TRIMMING HIS FUR! read more

This is the best dog grooming salon in town! I found Universal Pet Care on Yelp and given that every reviewer has given them 5 stars, I was eager to see if they would be just as good grooming my eight-year old golden retriever, Miles. Well I have to say Miles looks amazing! His coat is super-soft and his hair cut is the best! And I've finally found a place that knows how to trim his nails properly! Needless to say we'll definitely be back! If you're looking for a groomers, look no further - Universal Pet Care's the one for you!!! read more

After searching online trying to find a groomer for my 3 month old Cockapoo Nico my prayer was answered. The owner is super sweet and gentle as she eased my fear of having my Nico groomed for the first time. She was quick and even gave me suggestions on training. My Nico was afraid of the noise from the blow dryer, scratched her hand and she was so nice about it knowing that comes with the job. I'm so appreciative of her not making a big deal about the scratch as she is now our forever groomer. Thanks again. PS the boutique is super cute and she sells the cutest accessories. read more

This is a rude woman with no customer service skills. She only cares about money, and wants all the work done before taking your dog in. What is the point of taking your dog if she doesn't want to do any work. Gets angry if you are 10 minutes late and won't take your dog. Do not recommend, zero stars and a lack of respect. read more

My baby came out beautiful. The owner is pleasant and very patient! I will return and continue to. I believe my dog likes her as well. I have been on a hunt and I am so lucky to find her. read more

Noreily is great! She is a very experienced groomer. I watched he cut my dogs nails and it was effortless. My dogs are small and were shaved; usually afterwards they are nervous wrecks but today they are fine! read more

Did a wonderful job with my Bichon's summer haircut! Was my first time, and will be using them regularly.

I hate to give an operating business a low rating. I wish I could be writing this review with accolades but sadly I cannot. My one star rating is because this is not the place to take your dog if he/she has long hair. I have a Shih-Poo with long hair. He's been groomed all over the United States. It's expected that a long hair dog will have a few knots, which is why most groomers charge a detangling fee but I could tell from my interactions with the owner that she was not interested in working with a long hair dog. She insisted that the only option was to cut his hair short and ended up practically shaving him. I was very clear about that not being what I wanted. I tried to build a rapport with this business and become a regular customer but I will not return. If your dog needs more than a wash and blow, I would not go here. read more

Noreily takes care of my Havanese who is always very matted, I know, my fault. Her quiet and calm demeanor and the meditation music in the background puts my dog at ease. All other groomers previous made him shake with anxiety. Can't recommend her highly enough. read more

I've been taking my 10 lb red poodle here for about 6 months and have loved the service here. Sadie looks amazing and she is so comfortable at universal too. We will be here regularly. Very skilled owner and staff and relaxed atmosphere. They listen and give you exactly what you want. Drop off Appointments and pick up in 2-3 hours. They call you. No all day sitting in a cage. I've seen all size and breed dogs there and all look expertly trimmed and beautiful! A great find!! read more

Today was my first experience with Universal Pet Care. I live across the street, and last week I was hit by a car while walking the dogs. While I wailed for the ambulance the owner came out to help and hold my dogs till family came. I decided to take my pups there because they were good neighbors and my pups went under the car. They did a FANTASTIC job. Both dogs look great and enjoyed the experience for sure! Thank you for everything you did! I am now a customer forever! read more

When we found out that a pet grooming place was coming right in our neighborhood, we hoped and kept our fi! ngers crossed that it would be a good place. Well I must say now that we are extremely happy with this place. The lady who grooms the pups is very nice and she definitely has the knack and demeanor to make the pups feel comfortable. We highly recommend them and hope they remain here for a long time read more

I just went here this weekend and the groomer did an AMAZING job on my Shih Tzu! My dog was very overdue for grooming and her coat was unfortunately matted. Based on a recommendation, we tried this place and we are so glad we did. I was taking my pup to nana HHA tan and it was very time-consuming and expensive. This was a pleasure and we will definitely return and recommend to others. read more

Amazing!! So Sorry i cant remember her name but i never forget a face & she was amazing. I took my puppy in for her 1st groom on Wednesday she was pretty hairy n had knotting , maltipoo hair is non easy to maintain. I didn't even recognize her when i picked her up she was beautiful and looked so happy. They were so professional and attentive to detail, very clean shop and work area. The price is also reasonable, this has to be a permanent fixture because noone else will be grooming my Latte except Universal Pet care. Keep up the wonderful job ! read more

This groomer does a decent job but nothing to shout about. She did a nice job the first time, but the second visit, she cut my dog and said nothing . I noticed the cut when I got home. It was not a deep cut but it was a cut. Will not take my dog there again because of the lack of honesty and the cut. She is a nice young lady who does a decent job but I had gone to another groomer who did superb job and then, after 8 sessions cut my dog deeply in 3 places. I told this groomer and he was cut again. read more

After doing hours of research I came across Universal Pet Care. I Called Saturday and made an appointment for Sunday which worked out perfectly because that's my day off and My appointment was at 11 o'clock. (Very nice on the phone too) I brought our Havapoo to get groomed for the very first time and the owner was very very nice and caring about my dog Luna. It look like we were the first clients there which was awesome because she got to have one on one time with her. I filled out some paperwork, showed her a picture of how I wanted her hair cut to look or close to the picture's haircut. She said it would be a little shorter then the picture because her legs look shorter then the rest of her coat. (I was cutting around her legs due to some matts she had) She told me that she was going to give me a call when she finished Luna's grooming session. I walked around the neighborhood, found a restaurant, got a call Literately an hour later that my Luna was all done. As I was arriving back to the salon all I can think of was how gorgeous my dog was going to look. AND SHE LOOKED BEAUTIFUL. Exactly the cut I asked for and she never looked happier. She gave me some advice on how to maintain her coat and great tips. I will definitely be back. #shesakeeper read more

Noreily takes so much pride in her work. Our poodle Obi loves her. He can't wait to be groomed be her and he always gets lots of compliments. What a great place to have your pet groomed! This neighborhood really needed a good groomer & it's finally here. I accidentally deleted the number trying to share it with my niece and had to go online to look it up. And I came across the YELP reviews and had to write one based on what I read. I'm not in the habit of writing reviews but Universal Pet Care is AWESOME!!!! I'm the proud owner of what used to be for dogs: a Pomeranian named Hercules (subsequently passed away May 4, 2017), a Siberian Husky name Sampson (we call him Icee because of piercing blue eyes), a Pootese named Zeus, and the one that started it all for me Yorkychon named Adonis. I used to go to the Petco to get my dogs groomed but for some reason they didn't come back the way I wanted them to know matter what I described to the groom. My mother was the one who actually found UPC. I wouldn't go anywhere else. I call, make an appointment, drop my dogs off with the description that I want, and I go back to pick them up they know great!!! Norelli is not only a sweet person she's a professional. I don't know what I'm going to do when she goes on maternity leave..... Congratulations..... FYI--- always tip for GREAT service... read more
