Virginia Kitchen and Bath - Kitchen Renovation Project

This is our second home project with VK&B. The first was a kitchen and minor powder room addition,…read moreand the most recent one was a bathroom in our guest house. We've been pleased with the outcome of both projects. They've done quality work for us. One thing that stands out for me is their flexibility. We've been on long trips during both jobs, which would normally make me very nervous about not seeing progress. But I was able to facetime with the crew for issues/questions/updates and they sent pictures every couple of days. I also appreciate their willingness to come back to address issues after the project is done. Their nice people, too. All in all - I'm pleased. I've used them twice and will get a bid for any future projects as well.

It has bubbled again and for the past two hours I have had to scrape the walls and will need to prime and paint these again. I am certain that you painted without primer and not the proper paint. Now the extra coats and labor I have to do. I hope that the drywall was installed properly since nothing else was. Honestly for the cost it was not worth it. It was crap workmanship for the beginning and the tub is still not finished properly since you scrapped it and they came several times to fix this. The amount of time and energy I am putting into fix your mistakes is ridiculous

Mosaic was a great find and recommended to me by my contractor. I checked it out on Yelp first and…read moredue to the great reviews, decided to try it out myself. I've done a bathroom remodel before without the help of anyone at Mosaic before this one and now after getting the help of a design professional I'd never want to do without it again! My appointment with Cameron went very well. We definitely needed the full 1.5 hours to go over my preferences, look at images I brought in and pick out tile and then take down specs for estimates. Cameron's tile suggestions seemed be very inline with my own preferences. Plus, I was able to walk around and pick out many attractive tile choices to choose from. Mosaic also has a very large building with quite a few model upscale bathrooms set up to walk around and take a look at to help spark design ideas. Later the same day as my tile consultation, Cameron emailed me her very detailed and accurate architectural drawings of my bathroom showing everything I described to her for the remodel including the tiles, vanity, tub, etc. and contacted my general contractor directly as well. I was very impressed and pleased--considering this was all a free service to customers! I was also able to take home my tile samples to look it all over later in my house. The tile was not cheap of course. I have a relatively small bathroom in my townhouse but it still amounted to well over $2k worth of tile! I know I have expensive tastes but I was hoping my contractor would be able to get me more of a discount! Well, I may have to scale back the amount of tile I'm using and/or hold off on the project to save up more meanwhile but I know exactly what tile I want to go with now!

My contractor recommended Mosaic and he couldn't have been more spot on. The selection was great…read moreand the showroom well organized and inspiring. I worked with Mustafa who listened to my wants and was able to pull great options and even find something not on my radar that was perfect. It was an easy to navigate process and high quality materials. I appreciate the knowledge and options--highly recommend!

I had seen some stuff online via Ferguson's website, but I wanted to actually chat with a person in real life about my proposed project so in that way I could walk through what I was looking for and wanted. We worked with Darin who was fantastic btw! My husband and I sort of went through with what I was looking for which included plumbing fixatures for two bathrooms and a chandelier for our foyer. He was great gave us different options at different price points also he helped figure out what I was trying to explain (I told him I don't know all of the technical names of the things, but he was able to decipher) and help us think through what we needed. Darin super knowledgeable! Now a few other points of advice if you are a first timer, pictures of what you want to do helpful even if they are inspo photos, if you've got space measurements even better. Also, if you are thinking of changing out plumbing perhaps having your preferred plumber come out to give you an idea of materials required for your project (I opted to do it in reverse).

Primary emphasis was a layout that could evolve over time and recapturing some floorspace. Start to finish was 3-4 weeks. This included tearing out popcorn ceiling, wiring in ~11 new recessed lights, new flooring, new kitchenette, small updates to a guest bathroom, painting all the things (including a chalkboard 1/3 wall) and a redesigned fascia for our fireplace. It also included a "secret room" for the kiddo that Quinn took on as a personal project, as we've been juggling complex medical issues for a few years. Needless to say that resulted in a lot of smiles and it has been getting a ton of use. The plywood in the secret room is 3/4" and we plan to add some rock climbing grips to it in the future. Pearl and Monica were easy to communicate with and any issues (ex: some painting needed to be revisited) were handled promptly. They were very flexible with pricing and really went out of their way to make this work for us. I'm deeply appreciative of the work they did for our child and the flexibility they demonstrated with some of my last-minute design tweaks. This is an easy recommend from me.

But once we scheduled the appointment with CKB, lots of other projects popped up with our old, new house: knocking pipes when the hot water is on, an old fireplace mantle with water damage behind it, a wall-mounted tv that the previous owners stuck right into flammable insulation. But it didn't matter! Quinn, Cherie, and Carlos completed our whole list within ONE WEEK and within our budget. The team painted everything from ceilings to baseboards and covered up the previous yellow and navy blue paint! They completely replaced the damaged drywall behind our brick fireplace and installed a new electrical outlet for the wall mounted tv, in addition to adding fireproof insulation! And they fixed our knocking pipes by cutting into our walls and spray foaming around the culprits. Totally professional and on time every day. It was great! Can't wait to have them back to renovate our old bathrooms.

My wife and I were shopping around for kitchen cabinets and found ourselves in the USA Cabinets…read moreshowroom on a Sunday. We met with Patrick and he kindly walked us around the store explaining the differences in both quality and pricing for the cabinets in the showroom. We were looking for something that was semi-custom and had a very strict "do not exceed" budget in mind. After some managing of expectations vs. budget and multiple price quotes from Patrick showing us our options my wife and I decided on a beautiful white cabinet that was actually RTA but with Patricks help we were able to achieve a high-end/customer look. It had all soft close doors, was a solid wood box and had a classic style at a great price point. The delivery and installation was quick and easy. They showed up on time and cleaned up well when they were done. I worked with the foreman on the punch list and the word "no" or any indication of pushback never came out of his mouth. They replaced a door because of a scratch in the face, after it was replaced I sent a picture of the handle that didn't exactly look centered, they quickly came out and replaced it again....no haggle type questions asked. The service was great, the pricing was very competitive and my wife couldn't be happier with her new kitchen! If we move, there is no question that I'll end up here again if our kitchen needs to be remodeled.

Angelo, one of their contractors, provided a very disappointing experience; his crew was highly unprofessional, unresponsive to phone calls and emails, and disrespectful in my residence. She has a way of calming the stress and making everything smooth and manageable, which I appreciate more than I can say. His whole team of subcontractors were amazing--professional, timely, and completely behind all their work. But Heather was the star! She was a pleasure to work with, and willing to go wherever I wanted with design and materials choices, until I was completely happy. She is a talented designer, and I learned a great deal from working with her. She inspected every aspect of our cabinets, and had anything that wasn't completely as designed redone until all was perfect. Frankly, working with her again is a no-brainer for us and we sing her praises to all of our friends and neighbors now. If you've done any sort of home renovations you've probably had good contractors and bad. On our most recent 1600sf addition we had a lot of mediocre work from our GC and his subs and they required LOTS of oversight. Heather's team, by contrast, gave us white glove service at a price that was a true bargain for the quality of work delivered. She and her team gave us such good value that we're looking around our house for other things to have them build (built-in buffet for dining room, wine cabinets, etc). I wish all home renovation trades-people were this good. - Pete and Krista Coleton
