This is a review specifically for the flight from Chicago (ORD) to Orange County (SNA), mainly about the environment and the amenities in the economy class. If you purchased business/first class then this review would not apply. First of all, the economy seating is incredibly narrow. There was a lady sitting next to me where her left arm was completely over my armrest the entire flight. Also, my left arm got hit by the walking flight attendants/passengers over 3 times in the entire flight; not by purpose, but demonstrates how narrow the aisle of the plane is if you can keep hitting someone by accident. If you are over 5'7" tall you may have to extend your foot outside of the seat to the aisle due to inability to extend fully under your seat, and I have seen a few passengers do that, which also causes a walking hazard on the already narrow aisle. The bathroom is probably standard for airlines but it is extremely narrow and I would say it is a little smaller than average airline bathrooms because you can barely turn your body and not hit the sink/wall. They do provide free snacks such as mini-pretzels and regular non-alcoholic beverages such as water, juice, ginger ale; but if you want anything else you would have to pay for it. The flight attendants themselves are quite attentive and are very efficient so bravo for that. In summary, UA definitely needs to either remodel their planes that has such walking/hitting hazard or get rid of them and purchase new planes that has a little more seating/walking room all together. read more

My son has been on his plane for over 2 hrs now waiting to depart. He already missed his connecting flight in Chicago to get back to base in California. The first delay was not enough luggage handlers, I get that the 2nd delay all they said was something about fuel. This is flight 5503 out of Hancock heading to Chicago. A brand new Leatherman camping tool was stolen out of my checked luggage this morning. We arrived quite early for a 7:15 AM flight to Chicago, and the tool was in a leather pouch that was zipped into a secure area in the front of my rolling luggage. The pouch is still there, but one of the baggage handlers helped himself to the little blue Leatherman. There weren't any slips or other indications that TSA had gone through my bag (and had they, they still wouldn't have taken the little tool). Thanks a lot, United. I'm currently filing a claim but would like to warn others who may have items of sentimental value that they can't take in carry-on. read more

Why is every United flight leaving from Syracuse airport delayed for 45 - 55 minutes for deicing? Why isn't this 45 - 55 minute scheduled in your flight time so I don't have to miss every single connection on United in the entire year of 2014. Thank God I have only lived in Syracuse for 1 year. The one time that I did not miss my connection, I had to run the whole 2 miles to the gate because United does not provide transport to gates even when you are late. I had no time to eat or use the restroom. What is wrong with their management that they cannot review and revise their process when the same mistake is being committed over and over? I posted a comment on their facebook page and the responses from their employees are shocking. All the comments blamed me for not scheduling my flights correctly or the deicing contractor. No responsibility is ever taken by United for being inefficient when the same delay for deicing is caused all winter long. Shame read more

Every time I go to fly home I chose United because they're typically helpful and accommodating. But my last few times flying with them will have to be my last for good. Every time my flight either gets delayed by 5 or more hours or gets cancelled more than once with them causing a huge inconvenience. I'm not one to complain or write a review but I've reached my breaking point with this airline. read more

It wasn't that bad. The only issue I had was my return flight, I missed the flight because my rental car from Avis got a flat tire. That wasn't the airlines fault and they put me on the next available flight at NO CHARGE. I appreciate everything they did. read more

If there was a zero star rating, that would be my choice. Purchased airline tickets in January for myself and my elderly parents to get them to their granddaughter's wedding. I specifically chose United as they offered accommodating times for traveling considering my parents are 77 and 83. The airline changed the flights several times prior to departure date. Each change was incredulous with several plane transfers and flying back and forth across the U.S. For each change I contacted customer service to adjust flights to accommodate elderly parents as 12-15 hour travel day was not feasible nor were several layovers and plane transfers. Each call to customer service was a minimum of 1-2 hours in length. It was a constant struggle to get the representative to understand what I needed and why a 12-15 hour day of travel was not doable by my elderly parents! At 2:00 am the day before departure, flights were CANCELED - no reason provided. I was then forced to make last-minute reservations with another airline costing over $2000 more. Upon return I reached out to the United Airline Customer Support online as I was assured they would actually review the matter. This, too, was also a huge FAIL by United. The response appeared to be a generic one in which I was told flight changes are not unusual but here is a $50 voucher for each passenger for a future flight. UNBELIEVABLE! I will NEVER fly United again. This was by far the absolute worst customer service experience I have ever personally experienced. read more

This is for the flight from O'Hare airport to Portland Oregon on Tuesday 1/14/2020. The flight attendants were unfriendly and appeared haggard. There hair was misplaced, and sloppy. On a few occasions we because I sat at the aisle seat they would shove past you and appear uncaring. On another occasion I went to use the restroom and drop off some garbage. I had a can. As I approached the galley I saw one attendant playing a game on her phone, as I asked where the garbage was, all she did was point in the direction of two bags hanging off of the counter. One was clearer than the other and as I i asked which bag to dump my soda can in, she did not bother looking up; another flight attendant pointed to the correct bag. Is there a policy in no phone usage while on duty? Well just thought you should know that not all airlines are perfect or rude all the time. However, after flying countless times, United appears to have the least revered flight crew, least amount of professionalism and least welcoming crew to date. Lastly, 5+ STARS goes out to the crew at the ticket counter GATE C30 at the O'Hare to Rochester flight on Friday 1/17/2020; I am lucky too have run into you and am grateful for your efforts in getting me home. Thank you!! So yep as a frequent flyer, you win some and you lose some. read more

Absolutely ridiculous. Flight was delayed by 7 hours with no reason given. Ended up landing at 1 am the next day. Our 4 bags including car seat and majority of the folks on the flights bags were not there when we got to our destination and they had no idea on location on anyone's bags. Did not have a car seat to loan us so we were stuck without a carseat for our daughter. Said they would contact us by phone and email when our bags arrived to the airport and when they would deliver to our home address. 3 days passed and still had not recieved any notification about bags. Drove 2 hours back to the airport to see if they happened to be there. Took them forever to find our bags and car seat and then finally did. My husband was had to carry four bags plus a large car seat to our car and they didn't even offer a cart or someone to assist him in carrying them. Later when we got home after the 2 hour drive. We discovered one of the bags wasn't ours and belonged to someone. The bags were identical but for them to just grab a random bag and not check the tag on it is ridiculous. That person's bag had a completely different final destination. Called them to say we have someone else's bag and if our bag was there. They said it was but since we have someone else's bag we have to drive back up there to trade it, instead of them delivering our bag and picking up the one we had. Absolutely no sympathy or acknowledgement of the inconvenience they caused us. No compensation was given, though the pilot on the flight when we finally landed said we probably would since the delay was so long. Will never fly with United again. Straight garbage. read more

My 83 year old mother took a flight from Syracuse to Tennessee on 5/15/14 she had a connecting flight out of Washington DC that flight got canceled and she was left in the airline for over 16 hours. I found out that that flight was canceled at 4:30 PM her flight left Syracuse at 7:40PM you think when you check in they would tell you that your connecting flight has been canceled No Not United. read more

Not a good experience. They need to get rid of basic economy because it would avoid nasty confrontations by employees at the gate. The lounge at JFK and Ft Lauderdale was below standard, cancelled flight with no notification or compensation for last minute cancellation and planes were dirty. I made a reservation on 7/14/2013 to fly round trip from Las Vegas to Syracuse departing Oct. 19 and returning on Oct. 27. Flying out, we volunteered to be bumped from Dulles to Syracuse and received two $400 vouchers, a hotel room and meal vouchers. Returning, I reconfirmed our flights, which even had seat assignments. I reconfirmed again on the morning of departure. When we got to the airport, we had been DELETED from the flight. However, we were still on the connecting flight from Chicago to Las Vegas. I'm not sure how they thought we were going to catch the second flight? After seeing the paperwork showing that my husband and I had confirmed reservations with seat assignments, they said, sorry, but we are not on the flight! They called someone and we spent about 45 minutes in angst, as we HAD to get home that night! Finally, we were placed on an American flight, leaving later, arriving home much later. I wrote to United, complaining about being deleted! A week later I received a letter from Jesse Ramos from Customer Care, offering us each 3,000 frequent flyer miles as a "goodwill gesture". I find that to be a slap in the face. 3,000 miles is only 12 percent of most airline tickets. We had volunteered to be bumped and received two $400 voutures, hotel and food, and they delete us and offer us 3,000 miles? In the past we have flown United quite often, but this clearly makes me believe the level of incompetence and inconsideration, brings flying United again into question. After the lame 3,000 mile offer, I wrote back to Mr. Ramos and expressed my dissatisfaction and dismay with their dismal offer, and have been rewarded with no response whatsoever. So, buyer beware, you may have reservations with seat assignments, but that doesn't mean you will fly!!! read more

We got bused to a prop plane that we were taking from Newark to Syracuse, we sat on the plane for an hour before they told us they had to bus us back to the airport to get put onto a different plane, since this one had maintenance issues with the pressure. We waited another 30 minutes before we got bused back to another prop plane. The flight was the worst flight I've ever been on in my whole life. The turbulence was so bad they couldn't even do beverage service. My sister and I both had panic attacks, and the staff was very rude. NEVER FLYING UNITED AGAIN!!!!!!! read more
