Since I haven't taken many vacations this year, the hubby said he'd use his points to book me a first class ticket. Of course I said yes! Above is the price / point breakdown. The flight there was fine. Got offered champagne before takeoff then fed a meal. The chose the cheese plate on the way there. Got the usual warm nuts to start. Ordered a few glasses of red wine and had a seltzer water as well. I was on the redeye, so was able to take a quick nap. The flight back, the plane was a little older. Felt slightly dingier. No champagne before takeoff offered. Got the usual nuts. For my meal, I got the Tomato and burrata manicotti and got a few glasses of champagne. Also took a nap here as well. There was a sharks and a warriors game while I was on the plane. Was able to stream after buying wifi. Both flights were fine, tho I do think if you fly first you should get access to the lounge. I believe they only do it on one of their routes domestically from SFO to EWR, but if you are flying basically the same amount of time, you should also get access. Three counter employees for 50 people checking in is ridiculous. By the time you make the line, you will be told that you're too late to check in. My agent was smug, unprofessional and plain slow and lazy. Rude tone of voice when speaking and dismissive. She begins to find me another flight the next day, and asks me where I'm going. I say "Chicago." Her reply, "Where's Chicago?" Uh, yeah. Let that sink in for a second. I didn't respond. She had to call a colleague on the phone to ask where Chicago is. These are the types of employees working for UA. How can you not know basic geography and locations of the MAJOR US airport hubs that your company uses? ZERO stars. I Uber'd all the way to Dulles after that fiasco and whizzed by the check in process there. Staff directing people where to go. No rudeness or confusion. Fast, easy, efficient. I won't fly UA ever again and especially not through BWI. Their passenger seats feel inhumane, like a caged animal in a box. Awful. read more

My trip confirmation ID was F921ek. My flight from BWI-ORD and ORD-SAN are the flights in question. I purchased my ticket on December 9th. A few days later my plans had changed so I called back in on December 13th. I changed my flight plans and paid extra to include a carry on bag by upgrading to economy plus. I did not pay to check a bag. A carry on bag was part of the flight that I purchased. I did this because I had to arrive earlier than expected and I had to bring two laptops. I bought a laptop bag as my only carry on. The laptop bag fits under the seat in front of me I got to the airport 2 hours in advance. I always get to the airport early. I was in Group 3 on my boarding pass. As I attempted to board with Group 3, which is an early boarding group, I was told I would have to check my laptop bag. I informed the individual that not only did I pay for a carry on - but that it fits underneath my seat. I was informed it didn't matter, that I would have to sit on the 5 hour flight with two laptops "on my lap" and that if I didn't comply - the female associate at the ORD gate threatened me with "you will never ever fly again". This left me flabbergasted to be threatened by an associate. This left me stressed, offended, and frankly, boggled. So I got on the flight with pockets full of electronics and two laptops on my lap in the back row cramped window seat. BWI to ORD was delayed in leaving. I don't know if you know what it's like to fly with two laptops on your legs but it's not comfortable at all. The laptops are not allowed out of my sight for work purposes, so I could not get up to use the restroom either. Upon flying to ORD I was informed that due to the delay I had 15 minutes to deboard the plane and sprint to my connection flight gate. Since I didn't have my laptop bag, I had to run through ORD with two laptops in my hand and I made it to my connecting flight with no time to spare, out of breath and again, wildly stressed. The reason everyone was pressing the attendant button was because ORD to SAN became delayed due to flight issues. The overall flight delay was 2 hours. So I sat on the plane for 7 hours with two laptops on my legs. incredibly uncomfortable. WHEN I got my laptop bag, my headset was broken due to the mistreatment of my luggage. This was a $100 headset. I had to arrange for new transportation from the airport home due to the delay. I'm frustrated, unhappy, and shocked at how poorly I was treated. I want my flight refunded. That is the least that United can do. My parents flew southwest to meet me in Baltimore. I told them they were crazy to not fly United and that they need to fly United next time. Then my flight home was an absolutely horrible experience. Please refund the cost of my flight for my issues. Flight delays, insulted by airport staff, the theft and improper treatment of my bag, and putting my work laptops at risk for 8 hours without the safety and security of their transportation casing made this a terrible experience. read more

I went to the airport at 2:30pm today for my 5:04pm flight. After sitting in the airport for a while we boarded the plane finally. I sat on the plane for about an hour getting ready to go to Houston for my 2 hour layover then to Baton Rouge to go home. Suddenly they tell us the flight has been delayed at least 30 minutes, which turned into 3 hours, due to an air tower control issue. However my flight in Houston was not delayed and my new flight time would not get me there in time to board my flight home. I walk out the plane and get in line to talk to the United Airlines representative. After waiting in line for a good 20 minutes, I watched one of the lady workers walk away sighing, "i don't know how much longer I can be nice." You can expect I am not in a good mood, yet I still greet the worker with a smile. He however ignored me until I said I needed help and looked at me with an annoyed face. I told him I needed a flight to Baton Rouge this weekend, he told me there was nothing he could get me on until Monday, I told him that wouldn't work and asked if I could get on a different airline and they could pay the difference of my flight prices, he said no. I asked him if there was anything he could do and he told me I could cancel the flight on my app. Yes I would have gotten my refund but getting a flight in two days would have been super expensive. Me being a smart lady I walked up to him again and when I got to the desk he put his head on the keyboard. I asked him if there were any flights flying into New Orleans and I could just get an uber to BTR, he found one and booked me on it. In the end the issue got solved but I couldn't be more upset by the lack of costumer service that was given to a paying costumer who clearly doesn't know what steps to take next and is just looking for some help. He also kept referring to me as sweetie as if he was talking down to me. Idk if United Airlines is not treating their employees well or they are just genuinely unhappy to be there. But anyway never flying united again and yeah you shouldn't either. read more

We arrived two hours early and got in a slow line. It got slower as they took people going to TX that weren't around when we arrived. They had 4 clerks for more than 10 counters. They were very very slow. After getting through security we ran to our plane after boarding time and luckily got there five minutes before they shut the door. Flying with United is like having your bestie text you along the way. I appreciate the cont'd messages about the next flight, even how long it takes to get to the terminal to the next connecting flight. You can also check your baggage on the App to make sure it's folllowing you during mutiple stops. The cleaning crew was coming on as we arrived at each destination, and sanitizing wipes was given upon boarding. My issue is the very uncomfortable seats and leg room. Even after the upgrade, there is no room for a book bag under the seat in front of you. Flight to Houston did have a tv headrest and wifi available for purchase. The airline crew was friendly. The pilot landing was great. No damage to my luggage. BWI is a straightforward, easy to navigate airport. Baggage check, TSA, claim, and getting to the terminals have always been a pleasant experience. Restaurants, shops, and clean bathrooms are onsite. Advice: Bring boppy pillow for head and neck. Wear compression socks for a long flight. Purchase wifi inadvace on the app. Upgrade seats if possible. read more

F'tatds are nearly killing us. Stuck on the runway, deicing for over an hour while we suck in jet fumes. Late as hell, but they call it on time. The seat room is worse than Southwest. My flight was delayed 3 different times for a total of 4.5 hours. United offered some bonus mileage points to my account as consolation. That's very nice for them, since I'll never use this airline again and won't be cashing in those miles. read more

I took my 1st flight with united and the trip from Dulles to Tampa was delayed 3.5 hours which made us late to get rental car and late to get to the rental house after 10pm. We were unable to get groceries in and had to waste beach time to get groceries the next day. The trip from Tampa to Dulles was delayed by 30 minutes and after we boarded the plane we sat on the plane for two hours before taking off. We had to circle in the air and wait for Dulles to allow us to land. We were approximately 100 feet of the ground on attempt to land when the pilot gunned the engines to abort landing and take back off into the sky. I believe if he would had continued to land we would have crashed because of a storm and wind sheer. We landed in Harrisburg PA and sat on the plane for another 2 hours. We finally took off appropriately 8:20pm and landed in Dulles after 9:00pm. We arrived at home around 11:30pm. I will never fly united again and will go back to Southwest where I have never been delayed. read more

Nowhere near enough United self check-in stations at BWI. The line was extremely long and only about six check in screens were there, and one of them was out of service. Many travelers lingered too long in front of the screen, either waiting for bag drop off or not understanding how to use the computer. It was excruciatingly slow and we were all inconvenienced by something that could easily have been remedied by installing far more check in stations. read more

United "Economy Basic" totally sabotaged me. They won't let you check-in online and so I had to wait in line to see an attended. Then they informed me that I was "past the check-in window". I pleaded with the agent that I'm TSA precheck and a Clear member, so I can definitely make this flight. She refused, and rebooked me on an outgoing flight from DCA... where I had just come from. If I had been booked on literally any other company I would have made my flight. Withholding my boarding pass (aka abaility to get through security) until I'm physically present is just savage! I'm in tears for their horrible services. I'm completed heart broken for my mother and how United airlines treated my mother. When purchasing my mothers ticket I noted a wheel chair was needed. I called twice to confirm this information was on file. As to confirm she will have assistance to guid her to the airport terminal to her connecting flights until she arrives to her Destination . I was inform they will provide the full service for wheel chair passengers. I was informed her check in luggage would be taken care of until she arrives to her final destination. She contacts me at 5:45pm to informed me they take her from the first plane to a group of other disable and wheel chair passengers. She was held responsible to pick up her check in luggage. They've been waiting for an hour with no update. They ask workers in the airport for assistance in which they reply rudely and un willing to help. At this point I call customer service at 5:50pm to see what can be done about the issue. Explained my mother needs assistance with her luggage and guidance to the next terminal. The representative tries to do her part to find out what happened. To their understanding wheel chair passengers receive help with guiding them to their next destination. Also luggage should retrieve at final arrival. She finally calls 18002282744to check the statues. In which she is informed new policy is in place for international flights and passenger is responsible for luggage and to check in at next connecting flight. At this point I re explain how she needs help. She finally provides with the above number to speak with the wheel chair department for assistance. I speak with a lady whom claims she can't do anything on her behalf and insist to have my mother ask for help. I explained she hasn't had much luck or other passengers waiting as well. I speak with my mother who informed me a security person came to them and insistent they continue to wait for help. Again I call the customer line at 6:32pm and Again this representative cant do much to help. Stay on the phone for 40 minutes for the problem to to get resolved. At this point I'm calling my mother to try and get another update. Until she finally returned my call at 8:15 pm in tears that the plane left and they have to wait until next day. She wasn't the only one left behind. She was in a group of 4 among others. (Keep in mind she is flying solo) I don't understand how the plane left before 7pm. To my understanding they arrive minutes before 7pm to be informed plane left. I don't understand how the plane left knowing you have missing passengers who are registered as disabled and in wheel chairs. Why not provide extra time. Especially when the numbers of missing passenger are high. This is ridiculous!!!! The support united airlines provided Has been heart breaking experience. Leaving elderly, disabled passengers to risk their health and stay over night at an airport during this pandemic. The lack of empathy from the staff and unprofessionalism they experience has devastated me. My mother had not eaten all day and hadn't slept the day prior due to her nerves. This made the experience worst. I made several attempts to get some help with no luck when I finally speak to a manager (Maggie) it was unbelievable the lack of help and guidance I received from her. At this point I well admit my cool was gone and my anger was at 100%. her incompetence just question how United airlines trained their staff. I made a couple other calls until I tried 18002282744 again. I was lucky to find a gentleman who went above and beyond to bring a little calmness to me and get my mother some help. Unfortunately no earlier flights were available. He assisted in making a complaint claim on my behave. After a very long wait time he was able to Reached out to supervisor (Barbara). Whom offer hotel stay and food. They were able to locate my mom in a chapel with her group. Yes, they were getting ready to sleep in a chapel my mother said a cleaning lady guided them there to try and get some rest. Thankful for the gentleman who help. I did enforce my concern regarding them missing their flight from the hotel. I hope this will not be another issue and they get the guidance to get to the gate on time. Overall the stress, overwhelming Concern, headache, heartache, fear, the health risk, and tears my mother and I experience is not worth trying United airlines again. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! If I wasn't persistent in calling and speaking to different representative until I got someone who cared to help, my mother would be hungry, stressed, and sleeping in an uncomfortable chapel bench/floor. HIRE PEOPLE WHO CARE AND HAVE EMPATHY FOR OTHERS. THEY WILL ALWAYS GO ABOVE A BEYOND FOR OTHERS!!! I am a nurse practitioner in Baltimore, MD. I was scheduled to go to an acedemic conference in Long Beach, CA in March. I had to cancel the flight with United Airlines due to the coronavirus outbreak and was given a credit to fly within the next year. My employer will not refund me for the flight because of this credit. I spoke a United Airlines agent who told me that removing the credit was against policy and would not allow me to speak with a supervisor. I will not be able to fly for the next year given the fact that I will be continuing to work hard to support our country during this devistating time and I'm frankly appauled at United Airlines refusal to grant me this simple request especially given the fact that Im not even requesting a refund. read more

Never again. I don't even know where to begin. Let me start from the beginning. When I was checking in, the lady at the desk was immediately rude and was not at all hospitable. Did I mention she was extremely rude along with having a huge attitude? She originally asked for my passport which I gave. Few seconds later she was getting annoyed saying "You're supposed to give me your ID." Well excuse me, am I mind reader? Later on she asked for my luggage to check in, which I gave. I had two luggages and gave her both but she only wanted one. She moved on to my other family member. As my family finished checking in, I realized one of my luggages wasn't checked in as well. So, I said that I had one more luggage left. SHE had the nerve to get upset with me by saying "You were just standing there." Again, excuse me, am I mind reader? I had no idea that the customers were supposed to automatically be flying experts. After that aggravating incident, I awaited for my fight. It was now time to board but nothing occurred. 40 minutes passed and nothing occurred. Finally they made an announcement elaborating something horrific. Everything was already prepared.... except there's no pilot. The pilot was 2 hours late, which resulted us to miss our other flight and then the next. We ended up having stay over night at a state we weren't originally supposed to go to, but we had to since we missed two of our connecting flights. Having this two hour delay resulted us to miss a WHOLE day to the destination we were trying to reach. Even though the employees at the customer service front desk were effortfully helpful. Actually reaching our destination was extremely horrific, unacceptable and shameful, it was the worst flight experience ever. NEVER AGAIN. read more

Warning: I tend to ramble. Having said that... Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip... :). Admit it, you sang that just as I did while typing. The tale is of a guy wanting to save money last-minute. Usually that means Southwest, but not always, not at last-minute schedules. Going through Expedia, United was cheaper than anyone I could find, going from BWI to Columbus. (with Southwest this is a one-hour direct flight, usually around $90-$110. This trip would have been $230each way. Nein Danke Southwest!). So after booking through United, I notice we fly to EWR (Newark) first. O-kaaaaaay, why fly east t go west I have no idea, but it was reasonable. The night before my flight, or the morning thereof, I really can't remember, my flight is cancelled out of Newark because of weather. So I get an option to rebook. I take a later flight out of BWI going through O'Hare of all places... CHCAGO! So oh yes, by all means let's fly 300 miles PAST my destination to fly BACK. I'm an adventurous kinda guy, so I'm up for it. Hell, I'd have taken a flight to Narita as a layover because I've never been to Tokyo before. :D. I jokingly say to the flight attendant when landing in O'Hare that they could have just given me a parachute and opened the door over Columbus. I'd have made it home from wherever I landed. (Most likely the Shoe, OSU's football stadium. My old stomping grounds) The fun part of this story is on the return flight. Again, to save money I decide to do two one-way flights because I simply didn't have enough when I booked the first flight, and the trip coincided with payday. So fine. My trip back to Baltimore has me flying through Newark, again. No worries. I get to Newark, having 2 hours to spare. I check the departure board, and the flight leaves at 1730. I have time, so I make my way to a restaurant. I haven't had breakfast yet and it's 1500 CST. I should also mention I lost my debit card between the checkout lane of a hometown Kroger and the gas pump of that same Kroger store. So I cancel it and have a new card issued. So I'm stuck in NYC/NJ (EWR is considered a NY-area airport) with what I had in my checking account, in cash. I stop in at a mediterranean place for some tabbouleh salad and tea. I make it to the gate in plenty of time only to be told the plane had already taken off. Flight left at 1730, I was there at 1710, but the plane had already left? I make my way over to the service center and the bewildered ticket agent tries to explain that the plane is still there. Won't listen to me. Her supervisor steps in and said no, it left early. So why am I giving this review 4 stars? Because of what happened next. They book me on the next flight out from ORD going to BWI, which is at 2100. 4 hours away. I can deal with that, like I said earlier I'm up for adventures. And I've seen Unaccompanied Minors... I know what can go wrong t airports :D. The newly-scheduled plane is departing from the same terminal I arrived at earlier, so I make my way back to Terminal/Concourse A and then to A2, which is where I stay for a while. A2 is not small but it isn't exactly Times Square, either. they handle roughly 20 or so planes. Not wanting a repeat of the incident that brought me to A2 I decide to stay put after finding an Earl of Sandwich for dinner. So I eat, get a LI iced tea and relax. Fast forward to around 9 and they announce over the loudspeaker that the 9:00 flight will be delayed until 10:30. WONDERful. 5 minutes after THAT, they're boarding for BWI. It's like, make up my mind! It's never a dull moment flying, no matter which airline you use. I wind up at home close to 12:10 and somehow manage to make it to work the next day. United didn't have to do what they did for me, as the fault was clearly mine. That they did, is what earns loyalty and customer service reviews such as this one. I had the same sort of experience (good, that is) with British Airways flying home from Dublin Ireland in 2003. Not so with US Air on the American trip. Well done United!!! read more

CHOOSE ANOTHER AIRLINE I traveled the week of May 6th to Chicago O'hare and checked 1 bag. Upon arrival, the two outside zipper bags were completely GONE! All the items *my tolietries) were as well. When I went to report this at the c/s desk, the first thing the employee said was "we won't give you cash" What the hell? I never asked for cash and really wanted my items \back and comp for the luggage they tore up. He then offered me a $200.00 travel voucher on United. I told him he must be crazy to think I would every fly this airline again --- how does a voucher compensate me for my jacked up luggage and lost toiletries??? After I asked for a Manager, he spoke to someone and offered $200.00 reimbursement once I send in my receipts. DO NOT FLY THIS AIRLINE ... read more

I try to fly UA whenever I can and out of all the american companies that fly between LAX and BWI this is the best. I would try to pick an international airlines if I was flying overseas since they are more updates with individual entertainment, but for a 5 hour flight I will go UA. read more

I love United. I have 2 friends that work for United and I'm proud. I'm always taken care of with this airline and never had any issues with lost baggage. I could certainly use more room between seat (darn granddaddy long legs) but that will be the case on most airlines. Very nice pilots and flight attendants keep me returning to this airline (and if course my rewards program). read more

On Tuesday 02/05/2019. I was Traveling on military orders where our bag fees are waived. When arriving at the check in counter I showed my orders and Military ID, not noticing I didnt have my current ID with me, the attendant took my ID and said this ID is expired you need to pay $30.00. I explained to her you can see my orders I just left my other ID at home. She was so gun-ho abot getting my money she heard nothing I said. I called and talked to a supervisor in customer support. He offered me $50.00 travel credit, didnt want a travel credit I wanted my $30.00 back and to not be used. If I can avoid flying with United "Air-LIES" again I will. read more

Have you just had way too much good customers service recently and feel like shaking things up a bit? Perhaps you haven't experienced some good verbal abuse? Maybe you want your bag lost, or you would like to pay for every little thing? Well if you've chosen to fly United you've come to the right place. Recently United has become a slightly upgraded version of Spirit airlines but they serve water on their flights. Now I fly weekly with a variety of airlines so trust me this isn't a one off rant. United has actually impressed me with how consistently bad they are. From lost gate checked bags (I didn't even know you could lose a gate checked bag), to verbally abusive flight attendance, I've witnessed it all on United flights. Trying to get to some kind of status with United? Forget about it, they require at least 25% more points to make status than any other airline I fly with. Wanna watch TV? They charge (free on America, Alaska, and jet blue) Wanna use the internet? They charge (free on jet blue) Bag 0.3 lbs overweight? ($100) ... yes this is really what they charge it's. $75 on most other airlines. Basically United is a terrible airline that I only fly when no other convenient flight is available... it's literally the worst every time I'm forced to fly them ... their monopoly on the skies is appalling. I woke up this morning on a mission. A mission to do good, and see good people. I set out on my journey in the still dark morning hours; the fog was thick.. Perhaps as thick as my anticipation to arrive on time. I drove fast, slowing only for blind turns and traffic signals yet never passing the line of cars ahead of me.. So eager. So anxious. In my efforts to "shave off a few minutes" so to speak, I was caught by a man of justice. A loose cannon cop on the edge, the razors edge. Needless to say after I was served a heaping helping of justice on the back roads of Maryland, I was never going to make my flight. This entire situation only exacerbated my efforts and I raced all the way to the airport, following that steady flow of commuters that fills the roads into a city like veins to a heart. Checking in on my flight I was elated to find that there was somehow a delay on my takeoff! Could it be?! Were the gods smiling down on me?!? I was so pleased as I parked and raced to the elevator. I refreshed my browser to confirm for the 8th time that everything was going to be ok... I missed my flight by 7min. It departed on time. Luckily there was a man behind the counter, a generous man whom saw my plight for a flight. A man by the name of Travis. Travis saved me today. My next flight is only 4 hours later, my entire week has been saved thanks to you Travis at BWI United Airlines. You the real MVP. read more

Our original flights were delayed and that caused a chain reaction in possibly missing our connecting flights... we got on the phone and had our flights switched easily. Upon arrival we noticed that our seats weren't together... the representative went above and beyond. She found us another flight at another airport and gave us free transportation to the airport. United Airlines - what can I say...I mean nice campaign and all but the reality of things is United sucks!! United needs to work more on customer service apart from not having individual entertainment like Singapore airlines on long overhaul flights. The other disappointment is the food when most other international airlines provide you with standard meals and selections of wines- they only serve two pathetic meal (one was udon with three pieces of dark meat chicken and other was cheese lasagne) over 13 hours of flight and wine is $6 for each mini bottle, oh yeah I should say thank you for the instant noodles in between! I never sat on a plane that served instant noodles so United is #1 for that. If those damn CEO and managements dont take all the profits perhaps the service can be improved. So getting back to customer service on the overhaul flight from Chicago to Tokyo on United flight 881- my seat was broken so every time I reclined the seat would come back home. I went up to this pan-asian lady with short black curly hair (yeah you know I am talking about you) nicely to asked if something could be done with that and she was like "can you see I am very busy here"? Then my fellow passenger spilled a can of ginger ale on me and all over the seat - all that with the two airline waitresses right in front me so they proceeded to serve other customers instead of helping with the clean up. My parents had a flight to catch to Korea early Monday morning. We arrived at BWI around 5 a.m. and this is where much bewilderment and anger ensued. We went to check-in at US Airways (because it was a US Airways flight), but it was operated by United, so we were told to check-in at the United booth. Okay. But when we got to United, a bitchy representative told us that no, in fact, we have to check in at the US Airways booth. She repeated this three times after we told her that the US Airways rep sent us to her. Frustrated, my dad went back to US Airways where they again told him that he has to check-in with United while I went to the Information Desk to explain our problem and was told what my dad was just told. We went back to the United booth to a different (and much nicer) United representative and she and another very helpful representative helped us check in... ...ONLY TO LEARN THAT MY PARENTS' FLIGHT DID NOT EXIST. UNITED HAD CHANGED THEIR FLIGHT SCHEDULE AND FAILED TO NOTIFY US. There were no more flights to San Francisco (where they would take another flight to Seoul) leaving from BWI so they had the option of 1) leaving the next day and miss their connecting flight out of SFO or 2) drive to Reagan National Airport or Dulles and fly out from there. Dulles had the later flight option, so they chose to fly out from Dulles. Miraculously, it only took an hour and a half to get there in rush hour traffic. Upon checking in, we were told that since they have four bags to check, two of them would be charged $70 as an extra baggage fee. We were shocked because we had called the previous day to confirm that it was two free bags since they were going overseas. We argued with the United rep who firmly said that the policy had been in place since June 2011. To my chagrin, it was our mistake since we had been under the impression that it was a US Airways flight and THEY have the free second bag policy. Eff United. Anyway, my parents paid the $140 fee, we said our good-byes and we parted ways. The story ain't over yet. They arrive in Seoul and go to collect their luggage. Only to find that just ONE of the four bags had arrived. Just one!!!!!!! United managed to eff this up too. How is it that my parents had to fork over $140 on top of their plane ticket just to have United screw them over by not informing them of a changed itinerary, yank them around to two different airports, and then manage to lose their luggage? I will be contacting United and demand the $140 back. I realize it may seem futile and petty, but I feel my parents should have some reimbursement for the hell they went through that whole day. And rest assured, besides their return flight back, they won't be flying United anytime soon. read more

Awful service! They say they are short staffed! Gate changed every 20 minutes. Then, luggage took forever to be loaded even after we were all on board, arrived late again, and now changed belt for luggage pick up. Awful, awful service. They need to straighten out or will close down. read more

I recently took United to San Jose California from BWI and a week later returned. Flights both to and from were awful. The seats are so small I upgraded and United charged my debit card for a third party when there were only two if us flying. It took me 24 days to obtain my refund. We were herded onto the first flight only to be told there was a screw missing in the engine and we had to deplane for an hour delay. On the way home the plane was delayed again getting us into BWI well past midnight. I will take a bus to hell before flying United again! read more

My friends book their flights to Costa Rica in February for the June/July trip to get the best price, United has a guaranteed fare, after all. Well, it's May and I've decided I could afford to go, so I book on the same flight for $130 LESS. I called United and after over an hour on the phone, I've given up! Their policy is: any price matching/flight changing, etc. for 30 DAYS AFTER THE PURCHASE fee is $50 per ticket.... but AFTER 30 DAYS: $200 PER TICKET! WTF? So when I was told over and over that they would not match the price, refund the difference or even charge $50 and refund the $80 difference, I asked if they would give an in-flight FREE meal or even a drink and, (you may have guessed) they told me, "I'm very sorry, but no concession will be made, that is our policy." So: DON'T BUY UNITED TICKETS MORE THAN 30 DAYS BEFORE YOUR FLIGHT or, perhaps, just don't fly United at all. We're still 6 weeks away from the flight and I'm not looking forward to the experiences I've read about here on yelp! Do they want to stay in business? read more

My daughter had a flight from BWI to Newark to get a flight to Ireland. After several unexplained delays they ended up cancelling her flight and she missed her connecting flight. They did not offer any compensation or assistance. She managed to go standby on a flight to London and will make it to Ireland for her Equitrek but they can't tell her where her luggage is or even if it will eventually catch up to her. Thank goodness she opted for trip insurance. Will never fly United again. read more

United Airlines have great service. Due to flight delays I would have missed my connector flight. United offered to cab me over to Dulles and book me on a nonstop flight. I truly appreciate their efforts. Awesome customer service!! Thanks United! read more

It's a love hate with United. If you have status, it can be ok about 40% of the time. I am 1K so sometimes I am pretty happy with them. Again, maybe 40% of the time. But flying American Airlines is now the new DMV so what can you expect? I guess since we just have to lower our standards it's not that bad. But I don't think I would recommend United if you don't have status, there are other, cheaper airlines that are better. Also, United is changing their Mileage plus program next year to screw everyone so being loyal doesn't even matter. read more

I don't fly United very often. That being said, this is the LAST time I consider United as a travel option. The problems started before the plane left PSP. The flight out of PSP was 30 minutes late, putting us at risk on missing our connection out of DEN to BWI. The flight attendant, Meg, explained that if we had missed our flight that United would provide lodging, because the delay was not weather related. Her tone throughout this exchange was dismissive, condescending and patronizing. I am convinced that is the reason United put us on the plane that they eventually did, to save the costs and logistic hassles of a hotel stay for some 200 people. The way United handled the assignment of the replacement aircraft was beyond belief. Moving 200 passengers to four separate aircraft (all having mechanical issues) after having three (+) hours to handle this circumstance was comedic at best. I could feel the passengers bonding in their disgust with United and the way in which we were treated. Our flight finally landed at 3:30 a.m. instead of the 11:05 p.m. ETA. Safe travels and you may consider all other options before booking with this airline. I know I will. read more

Why is your help desk in the Phillippnes? You couldn't get American dummies? C'mon! A small change to my ticket was going to cost more than a new ticket itself. I kept being reminded that I agreed to the charges when I bought the ticket. The lady on the line could not understand minor nuances of English. It was like chasing my tail in some nightmarish elementary school. No wonder your overall ratings are awful. read more

Can't keep on schedule, no empathy for the issues created by such disorganization. I would suggest Jet Blue, Southwest or foreign aircrafts
