Used to love flying on southwest when your bags would be free but now that they have changed I don't know. This was my first time flying with them since the change. Seems like they nickel and dime you for everything. So many options for seating and so many additional charges. Bags are now 35 a piece. The nice thing is that you can select your seat. No more worries about not getting to sit with your family. The seats on this flight seems to me a bit more spacious, enough leg room for me and I am 6'2". The plane did seem newer. They had usb ports in the seats for easy phone charging. My flight took off and landed on time, though I know that's largely out of the airline's control. I would still fly for short trips that I only need a carry on. read more

I took 2 flights with Southwest on this trip, with a layover here at Baltimore airport in between. Both flights were fairly standard, there were only about 90 people on the first plane so we were able to spread out, but the second flight was completely full so passengers were instructed to stuff their carryons into the first overhead space they could find when boarding. My primary reason for rating Southwest so low is due to an incident with this airline where we attempted to book 2 seats on a particular flight and when we went to pay, we got an error message. When we attempted to again book those same seats/flights just seconds later, the price had suddenly jumped by a few hundred $$ within just moments. When we attempted to contact Southwest customer service, we received canned/pre-written responses, possibly drafted by a bot, which never addressed our actual reason for contacting this airline. read more

I reserved an automobile at the Thrifty Rent-A-Car at BWI airport via the Southwest Airline app taking advantage of extra points by doing it this way. However, upon arrival on Friday, May 1, 2026 at my appointment time, I found that Thrifty had no cars available for me. I had to quickly run to the Avis car rental where I was able to secure a car, thankfully,. I am told that when you reserve a car through Thrifty as well as other car rental places through the Southwest app that they do not reserve cars for you. You are better off, ordering your cars directly through the car companies and pre-paying and that way they will hold a car for you. Do not reserve cars through the Southwest Airlines app!! read more

Used to be great service for a great value. Now boarding takes longer, prices have been markedly elevated, and it feels like the new Spirit Airlines. Earlier this year, they added a $35 fee per bag, now raised to $45. They charge around $70-100 to not be in the last boarding group, and don't give any benefits to frequent customers as far as boarding groups go. This was my go-to airline, now looking to find alternatives that go to where I travel. read more

Southwest Airlines in Baltimore is one of the better ones. I've connected through here and it's easy to get from gate to gate, even if you're in different terminals. And I've been to Baltimore as a destination and getting through security and boarding is seamless too. The flight attendants are always friendly and helpful, and they've managed to switch to the new boarding process (assigned seating with zones for boarding) with no issues. I've flown Southwest many times, and for years it's been one of my go-to airlines for easy, reliable travel. The booking process is simple, the fares are usually reasonable, and the staff is always friendly. I've always appreciated the two free checked bags and the open-seating system. However, I'm really disappointed with the recent changes Southwest has been rolling out. Checked bags are no longer free the way they used to be, which takes away one of the biggest perks that made them stand out from other airlines. And starting in 2026, they'll be getting rid of open seating and moving to assigned seating. I still think the customer service is great and the crews are wonderful, but these policy changes definitely lessen the value that Southwest used to offer. We fly Southwest exclusively as of late. (Couldn't even tell you when we flew another carrier... literally YEARS ago.) While I am not a huge fan of some of the airline's changes (like having to pay for checked bags), I will take the "good with the bad." There is always the matter of inconsistency, there is always a delay or inconvenience that they DO NOT reimburse for unless you count $15 voucher for a $1200 flight that came with an 8 hour delay and an "im sorry but there is nothing we can do" I am a frequent flyer of southwest and every single time I have flown with them it is ALWAYS a delay it is ALWAYS a problem that they are less than willing to help you solve just take a voucher paper and go on about your crappy day. I love a cheap flight. I really do. And when it comes to affordable flying with pilots who consistently land like pros? Southwest is it. I've never had a problem midair, and when we hit the ground, I always feel like giving the pilot a high five. They just do a solid job. The flight attendants have always been helpful, but this trip? They went above and beyond. I was exhausted... like, "questioning my suitcase's ability to exist in three dimensions" exhausted. I looked at the flight attendant and said, "It's not going to fit, is it?" and she just knew. I admitted I was too tired and weak to even attempt to lift my bag, and when she came over to help, I told her, "Shove that effer in there." She laughed, I laughed (internally, I had no energy left), and somehow it worked. Then she let me sleep undisturbed. Beautiful. 10/10 moment. Now, let's talk connections. After my connecting flight was postponed nine times, I asked, "When are you just going to admit this is canceled?" and got a solid "Ma'am, ma'am, that's not what's going to happen here." (Spoiler alert: it got canceled.) I ended up switching flights and made it work, but it taught me a valuable Southwest lesson: if you can, go direct. Connecting through Southwest can eat up your whole day... and your sanity. I'm also officially at the stage of life where I might pay for the A boarding upgrade just to snag a window seat. That middle seat is not it, especially when you're tired and no longer blessed with a "can-sleep-on-the-tray-table" body. All in all? I got there and back without a true disaster. I never fly this airlines because of the seating the price for a one way ticket is crazy to me. If it wasn't for me having an emergency to get to L.A. asap I would've never flown this airlines but since it was the earliest flight I could get I had to settle. I can even upgrade on this flight. No phone holders to watch movies uncomfortable seating is something I'm not used to at all. This will go on the same list as Spirit to me. The employees it's not their fault that the company has been so bad in their business. The employees try their hardest to assist you but the booking process is terrible. I've flown Southwest for years and have been an A-List member for a long time. My husband is also A-List. I've generally been loyal to the airline, which is why this experience was so shocking. On January 21, 2026, I booked a round-trip flight from Baltimore to Phoenix. I paid for Choice Preferred seats and selected my seats during booking. Shortly afterward I upgraded to emergency exit row seats in the extra-legroom section. I received confirmation showing those seats assigned to me. This morning (2 days before my flight) I received a random automated email at 4 a.m. saying that my seat on the outbound flight had been refunded and that I no longer had an assigned seat. No explanation. When I logged in to reselect a seat, the only seats left on the plane were middle seats. I immediately called Southwest customer service and spoke with a representative named Angelica (Case #126034865). She told me she had no explanation for why the change was made. She also said the airline had the seats "locked down," there was nothing she could do to fix it, and my best option was to show up at the airport and ask the gate agent if they could move me to an extra-legroom seat. Meanwhile, the exact seat I had reserved had already been reassigned to someone else. So to summarize: Southwest took away a seat I had already paid for, gave it to another passenger, and customer service's solution was essentially "good luck at the airport." I asked to speak with a supervisor and was told there was none available. What makes this even more frustrating is that Southwest has been promoting its move toward assigned seating. But if the airline can simply remove your confirmed seat without explanation and offer no meaningful resolution, that completely defeats the purpose. This is not how loyal customers should be treated. I expected far better from Southwest. read more

At almost 80, my husband is disabled and wheelchair-bound. Due to a pileup at TSA security, we didn't see my husband's cane on the conveyor belt and forgot it. Our flight's gate was at the farthest end of the A concourse. After I left him there to go get him some food, he called to tell me that the flight gate had been changed to the farthest end of the B concourse. The wheelchair attendant would come and move him back. When I met him at the new gate, we discovered that his cane was missing, The gate attendant made a call to find it and the situation became confusing. By this time, I was feeling exhausted, discouraged and very much my 77-year-old age. At that point, a man in an officer's uniform stepped up and inquired about it. He told me that I could get on the plane and not wait for the cane, that he would check into it. When he brought the cane to our seats on the plane, I noticed his name was Dennis W. Garrett. He had walked all the way back to security to retrieve it. We also appreciated the flight attendants on our plane were very helpful and kind. This airline is not up to par with the standards I expect from a flight service provider. It is advisable to avoid flying with them. The flight arrived an hour late in Charlotte, and despite the captain's assurance when landing in Baltimore that our connecting flights would wait, we were not able to board our next flight at 4:15 as promised. When we got to the gate at 4:15 that's the time that the flight is supposed to leave. There was a lack of communication between the pilot and the ground staff, leading to a significant delay and inconvenience for me. We were left stranded at the airport for five hours before the next flight was available, turning a three-hour journey into a nine-hour ordeal. My brand new unused Bern helmet was absolutely pancaked and my bag slashed and I immediately went to the bag office where I was greeted with that's not our problem attitude. So I called and the lady told me to go back (and I did in the middle of my vacation) where another lady said I didn't come back in time even though I told her about the incident where I was told to leave and after all that the best they could do was a $300 voucher which is not what I wanted considering I won't be flying this airline again they lost a highly valued customer with their terrible service. read more

Let me tell you something. I have been airport hopping since early this am and not on purpose. Southwest is my favorite airline but today. . . Not so much . Arrived early at DCA for a 6:55 am flight to Orlando with a 10:30 connecting flight to Costa Rica. While at DCA, our flight gets delayed 3 hr because the crew needed rest. I am all for the crew getting rest when they are flying me up in God's blue sky but now the delay has caused me to miss my connecting flight to Costa Rica where we are supposed to to meet up friends. The only other flight out today was from BWI to Houston to Costa Rica arriving at 8:40 pm when my previous arrival time was 12:55pm. Long layover in Houston but we will get to Costa Rica today. Rock and a hard place. Either delay my arrival today or go home and do the whole airport traverse the next day. Nope! So our flight was rebooked out of BWI with pre-boarding courtesy, a Taxi voucher and 2 Southwest future trip vouchers. Off we went to BWI. The adventure continues in Houston read more

This review is only my opinion. SWA has always made changes for the worse, in the past. However, they have done so gradually and always staying ahead of other airlines. Now, SWA is making so many changes at once or frequently that they are no longer a better airline than most. And these are no minor changes. They adversely affect the casual, frequent loyal, and business customers. The current leadership (If you can call them that) is flying the airline straight into the ground. The company founder, Herb Kelleher, would be so ashamed and outraged at the direction they are taking his once outstanding airline. What a shame to see this airline being destroyed. This is a golden opportunity for other airlines to poach disenchanted SWA customers. I'll be looking for other wings to fly with. read more

In May 2025, my husband, son, and I flew with Southwest Airlines--our usual choice--for our son's basketball tournament. Unfortunately, this experience left us feeling extremely unsafe and disappointed. My son and I were seated in the same row with a male passenger, while my husband and another parent from our team sat directly behind us. As soon as I sat down, I noticed the man next to me smelled strongly of alcohol. His behavior throughout the flight was erratic--he was fidgety, grinning at random moments, and using what appeared to be encrypted or coded apps to send messages. His hands were trembling so much that I couldn't read the messages, but his overall demeanor kept me on high alert for the entire flight. After we landed, the situation escalated. I saw him switch his phone to the front-facing camera and sneak multiple photos of me. I immediately confronted him and asked, "Why the F did you take a picture of me?" I attempted to get assistance from the flight attendants, but no one responded. I continued to press him, and at first, he denied taking any photos. Then my husband stood up from the row behind us and also questioned him. At that point, the man changed his story, admitting he had taken the pictures "by mistake" and agreed to delete them. I watched him delete them, and I also had to go into his deleted photos folder myself to ensure they were permanently removed, as he pretended not to know how. During this, another passenger--who had no idea what was happening--shouted at me to "shut the F up" because he was in a hurry to get off the plane. I told him to mind his business, and he backed off once he realized I wasn't going to tolerate disrespect. To make matters worse, another passenger falsely claimed that my husband had hit the man, which was completely untrue. When the police arrived, they spoke to the man who took the photos first, completely ignoring me--even though I was the one who had been violated. It felt like racial bias, as I--a Black woman--was disregarded, while the white man who caused the issue was given the first word. In the end, nothing was done. The man continued on to his connecting flight to Boston, and we were left feeling deeply unsettled and unprotected. Southwest, do better. Passenger safety and accountability should not be optional. read more

Probably one of the worst flight experiences yet on Southwest. I took flight 559 from Orlando to Baltimore. The flight boarded 10 minutes early and by the time I got to the gate 10 minutes later, they were boarding Row C!! (I had a B20 ticket!) I get on the plane at 11:45pm and we are stuck on the plane until 12:55 before we took off. Then, at Baltimore, we couldn't get off the plane because the jetway didn't work. Finally off the plane at 3pm and as of 3:35, the baggage carousel is STILL NOT MOVING! As we have all been standing at Carousel 4, they finally announce we can get our bags on Carousel 2?!! Obviously, the Southwest problems from Christmas holiday 2022 have NOT been corrected as of April 2023! (Also, Southwest lost my baggage and my companion's baggage twice in the last two months. I'm thankful both my bags arrived this time!) read more
