My 16 yo son has taken up photography and we were looking at upgrading his equipment and stumbled upon your store. We were impressed by the size of the facility, and all the different displays and the number of selections we had to look at. We were approached by an employee (Brianna Pflug) who offered her assistance and asked what the reason for our visit was. I was blown away by her knowledge and was so excited to see how engaged my son was, who normally is very quiet, and doesn't talk much. They went back and forth asking questions and reviewed some of his pictures, which gave her a good assessment of his skill level. She offered some suggestions on how he can improve the quality of his photos. Brianna did inform us that they did offer a series of classes at that location which turned out to be the perfect birthday gift for him from my Mom. The visit went so well, that when it came time for my son to purchase a new lens, he made sure that we were going to Unique Photo and wanted to deal with only Brianna. Brianna had suggested a pre-owned Sigma 70-200mm lens that was in his price range that he ended up testing and loved. My son was the one paying for the lens, and to be honest, I did find an identical one cheaper online, but he insisted we purchased from your place, and most importantly, from Brianna. For a 16 year old boy to pass on saving some money that he earned by cutting peoples lawn over the summer tells you a lot. You have a customer for life in my son, and Brianna to thank. She took the time to listen, she learned what our purpose was, engaged and offered suggestions, and followed up with me via email afterwards when I had some questions on how to book the class. Everyone I encountered there was very friendly, which I found very refreshing. I manage a hotel and can tell you that I have shared my experience with my team in our staff meeting as an example of someone providing exceptional customer service. Brianna introduced us to Ryan, the rental manager, on our way out. Ryan noticed a smug on my son's camera which he worked some magic and took care of it right away. The care he put into doing so was like he was doing it for a family member, and I appreciate him for doing so very much. Thank you for allowing me to share my experience and thank you to Brianna for everything she has done for my son. I see a spark in his eye when he gets behind that camera, something that I haven't seen in some time and have her to thank for that. I ordered a printer from this company's website on January 8, and as of January 20, nearly two weeks later, my order has not shipped and I have received no email or any other communication regarding delays or issues. I only learned the true status of my order after reaching out to their Live Assistant, where I was informed that the product is out of stock and that they are "working with the manufacturer" to resolve it. This information was never proactively shared with me. What's especially frustrating is that the printer is still listed for sale on their website, with no indication that it is out of stock or subject to delays. That is misleading and unfair to consumers who reasonably expect accurate inventory information and timely updates. If an item is unavailable, customers should be notified promptly--not left in the dark for weeks. Based on my experience, I would advise others to beware and confirm availability before placing an order. read more

With everyone using their phone as a camera, one would think what is the need for a place like this. But for a lot of us, who still use a camera, Unique Photo is a fantastic establishment. The place is huge and carries a wide variety of cameras, lenses, tripods, flashes / lighting, and everything else you could need. From a beginner to an expert, you'll find what you need. They also offer classes. I've been twice, after finding a huge box of negatives that belonged to my father. They were able to scan and out all the images on a thumb drive in a timely manner. The website shows items as available that are not actually in stock. They take your payment instantly, even though they claim payment isn't finalized until the store confirms the order. After charging me, they later canceled my order due to no inventory and claims I will receive a refund. Now I'm stuck waiting for my money to be returned. On December 9, 2025, I received an email notification that they did not have the item and that my payment would be refunded. I wanted to buy a new lens for my Nikon D5200 and visited the best buy (East Hanover, NJ), I understand they are understaffed but I looked for someone for 20 mins, did not get any assistance and then some guy came and he told, 'no you can not try new lens until you buy and then if you return, there will be restocking fee'. Being such a big retail chain, that was so illogical and then I got the reference of UNIQUE PHOTO from one of their Geek Squad Agents who worked here. I called Unique Photo first and they told me they can assist me in getting a new lens. they have agents, some of them are pro and they know about the camera-lenses, in & out. I visited today in the afternoon, and Brian Molina attended to me. Let me tell you he was really good. like I had tons of questions, what lens I should buy, diff company lenses (Sigma, Tamron, Canon, etc), Technical aspects and this guy did not treat me like " why this guy asking stupid questions" he let me try new lenses on my camera body which I brought with me. He even told me about the new mirrorless Camera, FTZ adapter, and everyhting. though at the end of the visit, I could not buy anything as I had to research on my own but I was very much satisfied with this visit and got my answer. Brian handed me his card if, at all any question, I can contact him. he is really good and I am sure other agents must be like him. The store has the facility to Rent a camera/Lens, they even recommend you before buying any camera/lens, rent them first and then buy them. they have beginners classes for photography among many others services. this is truly a one-stop-shop for all your camera needs. and I am a big fan of their attitude & customer service I will definitely contact Brian if I am going to buy a new lens or Camera. #Vocal for Local read more

Great store. Have been there for years. They have expo every 6 months and numbers of great classes for $10 each and you get $10 to use in store for each classes, like you paying nothing for classes. Those classes are taught by some of expert in their field. They also have free camera/lens cleaning at that time also. They also have many interesting excursions and excellent classes for fee and they are fun to take. There is a great instructor named Michael Downey and any classes he teaches are most excellent where I got my start in photography. Recommend highly to check it out if you are even little curious about photography. read more

I came across this place though a Facebook Ad for a photo expo that was happening for three days from Dec 6th to 8th. More I went through the website, the more enticed I was to know more about the classes they were offering over a course of three days and the other photography related services. The classes were very cheap to start with and I enrolled myself to the portrait class by Bobby Lane and Lee Varis on December 8th. I got to the place on time and was surprised by the size of the building and the massive parking space they offered. As I entered the building, I was pleasantly surprised by the crowd that was in and the number of counters they had for every top brand from Canon, Nikon, Sony, Sigma, Panasonic and many more. The class started on time and was very informative. The best thing was that they additionally gave each participant a chip for $10 that you can use towards buying or renting anything from their shop for any later time. Since I'm a Canon user, I quickly zoomed through to their section and tried using a lot of different combo of lenses and bodies, which was great. They even offered free sensor cleaning and I submitted my camera for servicing. I've even got an email already that it's ready for pickup and will give me one more chance to go to the shop again. I've been coming here for years and it's really been my one stop shop for all my photo needs, whether I'm purchasing film, prints or a new camera... they always come through. Karen at the photo lab is always welcoming and warm, ready to help me out whenever she's there. The price value is fair, some prints can get pricy but the quality makes up for it. read more

I recently attended their Bird Photography Boot Camp in Cape May. While there I mentioned to Mike Downey that I was having trouble updating my Sony Camera. Mike suggested that I bring the camera by their Fairfield shop and he would update if for me. Both Mike and Bobby Stormer spend considerable time making the required multiple updates for me and i left with a much better camera than when i walked in the door. Both Mike and Bobby are fantastic instructors as well. I can't say enough about the service I've received as well as the fantastic equipment at Unique Photo. read more

Employees are rude and incompetent . I returned an item and aside from giving me a hard time about the return ( which was unopened and brought back within 24 hours) it also took three phone calls to get the correct refund amount. Even then they didn't get it right and I had to call my credit card company to straighten them out, so they canceled my account. I recently returned a camera rental and was chastised for returning it with a little dust on it and the lens cap not being on perfectly. I was told "Take better care of the equipment. I should charge you a maintenance fee". Customer service is nearly non existent here. Stay away. read more

Stay away from this place. I ordered a $6700 Nikon lens from this place and they never updated me on status of my order. They never had to sell me on the lens. I contacted them as soon as Nikon made it available for purchase. I did all the work. And when the lens finally became available, they charged me $80 for upgrading shipping to next day air. That is a very short sighted way of retaining a customer. They also have a very misleading way of advertising their merchandise. They list "usually ship in 5 days" for items that are clearly not going to be available for months. I am anazed that their customers put up with such nonsense. It is impossible to get my name off their email list. I have tried multiple times to UNSUBSCRIBE from their list and the spam mails never stopped. read more

I'm not one to write bad reviews for businesses; I usually like to give the business the benefit of the doubt. However, the customer service here is horrible. I placed an order for X100V back in January 2023, waited patiently, and not a single email nor phone call (which they have both on file) was made to notify me that they had cancelled my order. Like many others that have reviewed here, I too have been lied to about a product's status. I tried ordering a tripod that says "ships in five days" on the website a month an a half ago. I checked in repeatedly, only to receive a response saying they're waiting on the manufacturer. So I said they should update the website to reflect the product's out of stock status to stop misleading customers. They didn't. Just more excuses. I checked the manufacturer website and it says it's in stock. If Unique cared even the slightest about basic customer service they would have just bought one for retail cost elsewhere and shipped it to me because of their refusal to update false information on their website. They didn't. Unfortunately, I have a credit with this store that is now going to waste because of their incompetence. If anyone else is considering doing business with Unique Photo, please reconsider your options. Their website is full of misinformation and their customer service lacks the crucial "service" part. I've been reaching out to customer service for weeks about the order and they keep saying returns department will get back to me . Today they finally got back to me and a guy (SCOTT) which is suppose to be the department manager calls me and he accused me of receiving the package and basically saying I'm lying because proof of delivery and Asking me questions about where I work etc The company is very unprofessional all the agents make customer service look very bad with the nasty tones and how they treat you . My go-to camera store these days is Unique. The shop is owned by a man with a vision. He wants his place to be known as, not only a great hardware source, but to also be known as the best place for photo education. I have attended several classes - all reasonably priced and taught by known experts - and I think he's nailed the vision. Their prices are as low as you can go for non-gray market products and their staff - many photo students or working photographers - good technical advisors for newbie and experienced shooters. They hold photo weekends several times a year and bring in vendors who often have rebates and discounts to temp us. In fact, I recently got a printer for almost nothing through a Canon special. Very cool. I especially enjoy the "tax free" weekends - makes buying on the Internet a lot less tempting. Highly recommended. read more

Watch out for sales tax claims on their website, you will get through the cart and then after the order is placed and they confirm order you will be hit with sales tax. Also problems with backorders, they indicated an item was shipped but then the next day after they processed full payment for two items came back to me in an email and indicated that an item is on "backorder". My boyfriend and I decided to stop at Unique Photo this Sunday afternoon to check out cameras and lenses and get to know a bit more about the models we were interested in. We were assisted by an employee (missed the name) who was really helpful in aiding us in finding the models, recommending us appropriate lenses for what we wanted to use them for, and having friendly conversation with us about photography and knowhow. We were able to test out some of the cameras and browse around. I noticed the worker that assisted us as well as the few others in the store are camera enthusiasts and know a lot as passionate people themselves, which I really liked. There are camera models for Nikon, Panasonic, Canon, Sony, and Fujifilm. I also saw they host classes and other things in the building and may check it out some time in the future when Corona is over and I get accustomed to my new camera that's arriving soon! read more

Terrible online customer service. I ordered 4 umbrellas. Next day they had shipped ONE. Never called or emailed to ask if that would be OK and of course, it would not be. I need 4. Three are backordered. They shipped a useless one. Chatted with online chat. They cancelled the other three. Should have cancelled all four as I am now stuck and inconvenienced. THEN, credit came through without any credit for shipping - at the very least for those that have not shipped. Emailed. Messaged on Facebook. Left two messages on voicemail and no replies. So an immense amount of wasted time and it seems no forethought for the needs of their (former) customer. I should know by now to stick with B&H or Adorama. read more

I've taken classes there occasionally over the years and that's been fine. I've always done business with Bergen County Camera in Westwood and have only known good, honest approaches to sales. I went to Unique for a new memory card (since I'm now in Morris County) and the salesperson started with the most expensive, finally worked his way down but discouraged me from buying what I've been happy with. The one I purchased was costly and on my field trip I had difficulty with getting it into and out of my camera as well as my card reader. I shoot with a Nikon, this is a Sony card and maybe that's the problem. After asking if I could exchange it after my disappointment and only one use, I was told no. If their sales approach is only to sell the highest priced items, I won't be shopping there. read more

My MacBook Pro's screen went on the fritz. I was thrilled to find an Apple-authorized repair place within 20 minutes of my home. Jay (James) and Kareem at the Apple station at Unique Photo are both very thorough, attentive, and full of suggestions. Their diagnostics revealed more issues with my laptop than I was aware of. Their repair quote was clear and reasonable and they set my expectations for time to complete the service. The computer came back days ahead of schedule. The laptop looks like new and is performing well. Jay and Kareem also can handle multiple customers simultaneously and give each attention and care. Plus... the store is awesome and all the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. I enjoyed browsing the large photo books and the equipment whenever I had to wait. read more

I have purchased many items over the past 15 years and have never had a problem. Recently I had a bad experience with Unique and will not purchase there again. Long story short: they left me hanging with a brand new and very expensive camera that was severely malfunctioning. They refused to make good on it. Details below. I bought a Canon camera and had multiple problems with it: the autofocus would not activate and it froze up such that only battery removal will revive it. I took it back to Unique two weeks after purchase and we theorized that a bad EF/RF adapter was the culprit. They replaced the adapter and I left for a photo trip. As I used the camera more, I discovered that the adapter was not the problem. The camera was faulty. I took the camera back to Unique after calling ahead. (There was a record of my earlier visit) When I got there, the manager starts nit picking that the strap was not in the box. They look at the camera and say "This camera is used. It was purchased 6 weeks ago. We cannot take it back." I say,"Of course it is used, That is how I know it has a problem." They refused to budge. In essence, because I was initially willing to work with them on the adapter, too much time lapsed and they were unwilling to reconcile the problem. They told me to take it up with Canon. Might as well buy directly from Canon as well. Nothing but headache using Unique. "You can shear a sheep many times, but you can only skin it once." I am done with Unique. read more

Discovered this store from billboard advertising for their photo expo. I have been to the expo 2 years in a row. Pretty dope store. I used to drive all the way to B&H, but this is the spot in all of NJ for all your camera needs. The one thing that I truly will acknowledge and appreciate is the level of knowledge of their staff. I have not experienced the same with B&H. And this isn't me talking bad about B&H, but simply being honest. Also, you cant beat the fact that they are opened on Saturdays...B&H is not. They have absolutely everything that you can possibly think of. There is a huge parking lot, so parking is never a sweat, not even during the expo. The only thing is that I wished there was more space for their expo...but hey, I guess they are being smart with what they have. All in all, I gave them a whooping 5 stars because of their efficiency and customer service. And although not all of their reps are good at it, the good ones outweigh the bad, and that in itself is very obvious. Exceedingly knowledgeable staff. read more

There were a lot of staff in each section and everyone there is very knowledgeable about anything camera related and were very informative and detailed when I had questions.
