Mack Retail Camera is an absolute gem of a store, with a decent selection of cameras and video equipment, as well as various photo services. I stopped in to get my kid a replacement point-and-shoot camera, and was pleasantly surprised by the selection and the salesperson's knowledge and recommendations. I've been buying cameras for almost 40 years, and I don't think I've ever had such a positive experience when buying a piece of photographic equipment. The prices were competitive, and I absolutely loved being able to speak to someone knowledgeable (unlike the big-box retailers, one of which advertised a camera in-store that they only sold online). These guys sold me a warranty for repairs and will not stand by the warranty. I'm waiting for over 8 weeks now for the repair but all they can tell me is that i'm scheduled and they will get to me when they get to me. I have yet to see them stand behind their warranty. when i speak to the customer representatives they are all frustrated that I keep calling to get the service I paid for as if they are the ones that should be frustrated. read more

Been using Mack for film development for years. Consistently since I've been going, employees do not understand their own POS system. They are always confused. I pay a different price every time I go. Film takes WEEKS to come back. This week was the last straw-- I paid $70 for two rolls of film and prints, yet they told me I still owed $42. Last month in September 2013, unfortunately my Nikon D5100 camera had a locked up shutter release. Also a front ring from my Nikon 18-55mm lens came off loose during normal and careful everyday use. Fortunately I was wise to buy a Mack 3 Year Diamond Warranty shortly after I bought my Nikon D5100 camera kit in November 2011 from Tuttle Cameras in Long Beach, CA. Thankfully almost two years later, my Mack Warranty came in handy in my times of need! The Mack Warranty is one of the best investments that I ever made when I bought my Nikon D5100! I paid a total of $130.49 for my Mack Warranty, with tax included, and it was worth every penny paid! I sent off my Nikon D5100 camera and 18-55mm lens on two different days in September 2013 through Tuttle Cameras, as each one had repair issues occur on two separate occasions. Both items were shipped out free of charge to me to Mack by Tuttle Cameras. About three weeks later on two different days, I received both my Nikon D5100 camera and my 18-55mm lens at Tuttle Cameras, both in excellent working condition! They are a scam. I have two appliances that I mad a claim for in April and as of Aug. 17 they still have not repaired them. They have a whole game going where they are very creative at not servicing claims. I spoke with the retailer that sold me the warranty and they advised me that they have thousands of customers that have had this same issue. Ever since 2020 when there was covid they suddenly stopped servicing claims. Not sure if they are going bankrupt or it has been taken over by crooks. read more

While on vacation I ran into problems with my Nikon D3100 but waited until I got home to get it repaired. I was recommended to Mack Camera at the place I originally bought it and was very glad that I took my camera there. I dropped it off last Saturday at 1:55 pm afraid that I would be rushed since they close at 2:00 pm on Saturday. I was met at the counter by a friendly, patient and extremely knowledgeable young lady named Theresa. Theresa took time to speak with me and to answer all of my questions until past closing time. She promised to have the camera checked out and serviced for a very reasonable price. I was delighted to receive a call on Wednesday saying the Nikon was ready for pick-up at the quoted cost. Theresa mentioned "her students" in conversation and I found out she also teaches photography classes at the store... I have just finished my third lesson and I already have learned much more than I ever had in the two other photography classes I attended previously. This is a great store and Theresa is a fabulous teacher! Highly Recommended!!!! read more

Today was the second time that i've gone to mack camera (known primarily as a camera repair shop) with broken cameras and they've refused to even try to fix the problem, much less look at it. This time it was a lens they had actually fixed before with minimal effort. I used to recommend Mack to anyone with a camera problem, knowing they were where B & H would send gear for repair. Was in the market for a Canon EOS 80D, they told me the 90D just came out two weeks ago and they had one in stock, with the EF-S 19-135 IS USM Kit, price was same as B&H and Amazon. Was terrific to have three knowledgeable sales people assisting us, great experience also purchased a Mack Extended Warranty and how we never have to use it. I sent 2 Nikon items which I purchased from bhphoto for service. 1-Nikon fm3a black for cleaning, 2-Nikon 35mm f/1.4 lens ( something with the front element). When the Camera body and Lens came back nothing was worked on. Furthermore,Ive discovered they damaged and scratched it. I called them up and requested what happened, of coursed they denied it. I was very very upset! I ended up sending it to Nikon, They were expensive but they resolved the problem. First they had to replace the base plate of my Camera body and cleaning $125. Then inform me the problem in the front element was lens separation which would cost $250 (which mack warranty claimed its okay) WTF. Keep in mind I purchased the imported model and overlooked it. I ended up having my gear fixed properly by Nikon not mack warranty. wasted of $80 extension warranty. Worthless. read more

Samsung assigned Mack Camera to complete a warranty repair of my television. Within 24 hours, Mack called to schedule an appointment and was extremely flexible in terms of my availability. About 30 minutes prior to my scheduled appointment, the repair person called to confirm he was on his way and would be on time. The two repair men that arrived were professional and completed the repair in about 20 minutes. They cleaned up spotlessly and placed my television in the same spot it was found. I sent Off my camera two months ago for repair and after numerous phone calls and times of being told that It will only take 7 days to repair, After the forth time of being told "it will only take seven days" I called asked to speak to a superior only to be greeted by a voice mail. My call from the supervisor and my gear have still not been returned. I shoot canon for weddings and events and I will only buy the Canon drops and spills warranty from now on along with CPS Membership. I feel so stupid for for doing business with this company. - I just received a voice mail from the supervisor and he briefly said that there was unspecified issue that prevented the repair. Took a printer in for repair, as they are listed as a facility by the manufacturer. Not ready on time, and when I called to ask when it would be ready, the guy who took the call yelled at me about how busy they were and covid-19, etc., and talked over me and wouldn't let me get a word in edgewise. Then he told me I had yelled at him, and I should come get my printer as he had decided they would not repair it. If you enjoy being verbally abused, this is the place for you. read more

Then she rings it up for $70 more than the agreed price before taxes and tried to explain her way out when I inspected the invoice. After submitting my equipment in again (my Canon 7D), they were actually really prompt in getting back to me and even went so far as to call me to update me on my camera (which had nothing wrong with it anyway....) and I was advised they even cleaned it for me too which was a nice gesture. My projector broke. It was sent to Mackcam back in August. I received the projector back in early November only to have it delivered back to me with something new broken. They claim Epson broke it, but there was a note in it that it was cleaned and tested before being sent back to me. They also claim they sent it to Epson yet I had a sticker on the projector from a repair company in NYC. It is now December 22nd and I still do not have the projector returned to me. It is worth the extra money to just buy the extended warranty from the manufacture. NOTE 2/1/14 - Received a projector back from Mackcam that they brought on EBAY to replace mine. just like any insurance company, they already have your money so they have no incentive to actually follow through when you need them. be prepared for long hold times, difficult customer service representatives, lazy technicians and a poor job done in the end. also before buying their accidental/drop/spill insurance, keep in mind that even though they didn't see what happened, they will not cover you if they determine the damage was not accidental. basically the system is rigged to screw over 9 out of 10 people. don't let them get you too. learn from my mistake and save your money! read more

Several years ago, about 6 or so I took my laptop in for warranty service. The service needed was repairing the power socket on the laptop. This was declined. Reason- 1 day prior to the end of the warranty. I have not and shall not return here. Think twice about getting a warranty through this firm. In the end I thought that doing the work myself was worth the lack of argumentation with this firm. If I could give 0 stars I would honestly do so. I believe other companies *dorama (especially for developing) or B&^ or Foc%s in B'klyn would do better. read more

I was having trouble with my Canon 5D Mark 2, called Mack up, and after some tests found out that it had to come in for repair. The first time I sent in my Sony Z7U to be repaired it came back and I was still having the same problems with it. Then I sent it in a second time for re-work, and when it came back the problem was fixed, but there are now 2 SCREWS MISSING from the body of the camera! Both times it came back dusty and I had to clean off the lens after taking it out of the box (even though they had given it a 'lens cleaning'). The repairs are also done very slowly. Their customer service people are incredibly difficult to get in touch with, and when you do they're not very helpful. It is frustrating that they never let you speak with a technician who is actually doing the repair. All told, my camera was out of commission for over 2 months, during which time I lost about $800 to renting, and the camera is still missing 2 screws. I will never purchase Mack warrantees again. read more

We are very happy with Mack retail and video service! We have used Mack for new purchases and repairs for years now and currently have 15 canon c-100 cameras under Mack warranty. Recently we needed audio and lens repairs on several of them at the same time. The repairs were done correctly and quickly! Our Mack representative Theresa was phenomenal in making it happen and keeping us up to date. In my 15 years of managing studios and equipment in NYC I have yet to find a facility this efficient or a representative so well-informed. We purchased a MACK warranty along with an Epson printer. The printer stopped working and as instructed by Mack, we shipped the printer to Mack for service. That was 7, SEVEN WEEKS AGO. We are a professional Design Studio so, of course, we could not endure that down-time without a printer. Countless emails and phone calls to Mack were without satisfaction to us. We were forced to purchase a new printer. Mack's response has been a series of childish, evasive excuses and broken promises. They have totally failed to stand behind their warranty. SEVEN WEEKS AND STILL NO RETURN OF OUR PRINTER!! I would NEVER AGAIN PURCHASE A MACK WARRANTY... I'd advise anyone to evaluate our situation before they purchase a Mack warranty. read more

As of now its not a camera, but instead a very fancy noise making machine.. there customer service is no where to be found. with the exception of the operator Rose who can't seem to get any on on the phone. Horrible company!!!! Total fraud!!! I keep waiting to see that they are shut down due to fraudulent business practices. I used to buy a MACK warranty whenever i bought a new camera - that is until i actually had to use it once. I sent in my camera with a detailed report of what was not working properly. They not only returned the camera without fixing it (they refused to saying I must have dropped the camera) but when the camera was returned, they had broken it even more! I called to complain that the flip out side panel was in perfect working order when I sent it to them and after arguing with the sales rep - he put me through to the head guy at the facility who proceeded to actually yell at me using profanity! I bought a refurbished washer and dryer from a shop that only sells refurbished washers and dryers. The shop (which is now out of business) sold me a Mack Camera 3 year extended warranty. Mack Camera directly sent me a numbered warranty certificate for each machine. 2 weeks later when I registered the warranty, I received an email confirming my warranty. This email included the serial numbers of my washer and dryer. That was 2 years ago. Yesterday, I made my first request for in home service and was told that they are not honoring the warranty because 1) they do not provide warranties for used equipment and 2) they never received payment for this from the appliance shop. Today I provided them with the warranty certificate (that they sent me directly) and the confirmation of my warranty (that they also sent me directiy). I paid for the warranty and they confirmed its validity. They never informed me of revoking the warranty, nor have I done anything to have it voided. If they don't provide warranties for used equipment, they shouldn't have given me a warranty in the first place, much less confirmed it being registered with the serial numbers of the used equipment. I expected slow, frustrating service with something like this. I didn't expect dishonesty and have no desire to ever do business with this company again. read more

We purchased a Mack warranty with a Canon G9 several years ago. We've sent it to Mack twice now. The first time they were very unresponsive after sending the camera to them - we would call multiple times with no answer some days, and when they did answer they were very rude. We even had to contact their regional representative to make any progress. However, the second time we sent the camera in (recently), it returned with dust inside the lens apparatus (not there before). Mack agreed to "re-work" it, which involves sending the camera back again. They assured me it would be handling with priority, usually 3-4 days. It has now been 12 days since they received it, and it is still being worked on. You would think that if they can't get it right the first time (very poor quality control), they would do everything they could the second. I will never use Mack Camera again. read more
