I have been a customer here for, not years, but decades. Tom and Bob, co owners, have always treated me like family. They sell pro quality goods and will spend the time make sure you understand your purchases. You rarely see that these days. I used to teach photography and met one of my former students there. Surprised that he was now an adult and full time professional. Talked to Steve Burns over the phone to ask questions on repairs. Stopped in today and dropped off my camera. In the mean time I browsed the used lenses and got a great deal. I am not sure why everyone raves about this place. I have been twice to have old photos scanned. The first time, they never communicated with me that the project was complete. When I called and then went to the store, they had trouble finding my order. About a year later, I brought an old album in to have the photos scanned. I heard nothing for two weeks. I called and was told I would get a call back. I did not and had to call again only to be told that they could scan the book as is for $360 or I could take the photos out and have them scan it for less. Why could no one tell me that at the shop? I do not live near Westwood. It is a thirty minute drive for me. They need to employ people who can help you in the moment so you do not waste your time. read more

My daughter and I went in thinking we needed to buy a new camera before her study abroad trip but thanks to Matt, the problem was diagnosed and resolved in a matter of minutes. The laptop couldn't read photos from the camera but Matt quickly suggested an SD card reader which solved the problem. He was amazing and the cost to get it resolved was reasonable. I visited here for the first time last weekend. The store is very organized and aesthetically pleasing. I came in to see the Fuji X100VI in person to gauge if it was something I would want for personal shooting. The staff was really friendly and patient as I tried to fiddle with Fuji's menu & settings. As I was getting ready to leave I wandered by the used Canon case and found a lens that I need for my business at a great price! They also seem to do framing, sell film, process film, sell the chemicals for that and even have a bunch of phonebooks for sale. Bergen County Camera in Westwood, NJ is one of my all-time favorite camera stores to buy from. While the store is in Westwood, Bergen County, NJ and I live in Morris County, I have no problem making the trek from where I live to this store when I need a lens, a tripod head, a tripod or just about anything related to photography. While nowhere near as large and well stocked as some of their competition in both NJ and NYC, they still have a pretty good inventory on hand and when they don't, they will gladly order whatever you need. Their prices are fair and reasonable, and they also have a well-stocked pre-owned department. On their website, they keep their listing of pre-owned gear updated on an almost daily basis. I've found this very useful when I seek to purchase used by checking the list then calling the store and asking them to hold aside an item and that I am on my way to view it. Another really nice aspect of this store is that it's run by two brothers, Tom and Bob Gramegna. The rest of their staff is extremely knowledgeable, friendly and helpful and, will spend whatever time you need to explain product features, how to assemble tripods and gimbal heads (as Alan Schwab recently did for me) and make recommendations for cameras and lenses after they inquire as to what you plan to photograph, where and so on. If you want to deal with a true "old-fashioned" family run business that puts the customer first, foremost and always, look to the folks at Bergen County Camera. You'll be glad you did. read more

For me, it doesn't get any better than Bergen County Camera. You'll usually pay close to full retail price for most things, but the service and support they provide more than makes up for it. The store itself is well laid out, with sections for studio gear, darkroom supplies, tripods, digital accessories, bags, film, etc. The center of the store is where the action really is, the cameras. They have a great selection of new equipment for all levels of photographers. I love staring at the Leica cameras. Make sure you check out their long list of used equipment. It is full of great gear. The staff is what makes the store for me. Most of them are seasoned photographers, so their advice comes from experience. Want to check out the latest lens? This place is as good as it gets. They were closing the shop when I entered but gladly decided to engage me. I told Bob (Bob Gramegna) that there was a problem with my cameras exposure and he checked it out for me immediately. He took a couple of pictures and told me that the problem was with my bracket settings. He changed the bracket settings and tuned a bunch of other settings while explaining me why he was doing these. He cleaned the camera, the lens and the sensor before giving the camera back to me that it was good to go. When I asked him, what I owe for the service he said 'Your unwavering loyalty' and charged me nothing. Seriously, who charges nothing for anything these days. I am through my days buying camera related stuff on amazon. Bob, you got my unwavering loyalty. Yay!!! PS: I am brown (India) and they treated me like family. The Bergen County equivalent of B&H Photo. It's a local store in a small town, so brace yourself if you've never been to my neck of the woods--its beautiful! Anyway, they have everything. They sell old to new SLR's and digital cameras. They have your tripods, your studio needs, your darkroom chemicals, photograph albums to put all your work in, frames, areas where people can stick in their memory drives into a computer to order/print pictures from their digital cam, etc.. They also sell the paper, spot solution and REALLY good spot brushes (which are hard to find at Pearl Paint); just about everything. Service here is fantastic. Most all of them have a very solid background in photography, so if you are there you know you aren't being spoon fed bullsh*t. They are extremely helpful and will give you as much information as you need. They will also never push you to purchase. They'll give you their opinion and options available, and are just as happy if you don't decide on anything than if you make a purchase. And on top of all this, they also sell a wide range of film for an amateur like myself to experiment with. While BCC does send most of their customers film to Kodak, they also give you an option of having film developed at their own lab. You can pick the type of paper and size you want to optimize the quality of your picture, and if you aren't satisfied they'll reprint them at no additional cost. Service is something that was lost a few years back when everything electronic became disposable. Walking into BCC you feel like everyone in the store is generally concerned about your camera buying experience. It's kinda weird but i miss that $hit. Most stores i walk into you have to stalk a sales person or stand on some line. Best customer service ever! They are such great people. I feel the warm presence of the staff the minute I walk through the door. Their friendly attitude and camera store reminds me of the customer service I used to receive when I lived in Orlando, FL. They are real and they don't price match other competitors but they do ship with no tax to my home in Brooklyn. Dan was super friendly and chatted with me a while about photography and my love for these super sharp lenses I was was purchasing. I am very happy and glad they are so close and only a short drive over the GW bridge to get to them. Came here to make my first DSLR purchase and couldn't be happier. At first DH wanted to order on Amazon, then I suggested this store and he wanted to go by himself since it was supposed to be a gift but I persuaded him to let me go since I was going to be the primary user and thought I should receive advice first hand. They close pretty early all week but on Thursday they are open until 9pm. We worked with a guy named Chris and he was very helpful and thorough. He spent over an hour with us helping us decide between makes, picking out bags, and other accessories. He didn't push anything, made suggestions for later, and even offered that we come back after we take some pics so he can look at them and give tips. Also, they offer photography classes, photoshop classes, and trips for you to go on to test out your skills. I know I'll be returning when I want to add a lens or 2. I stopped by earlier this week to consult with them regarding my SLR camera. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience with the help I received. The phone call I made before I stopped in however, was very kind and helpful. The gentleman who helped me appeared to be having a bad day or just prejudged me before I got to the sales desk. Very cool demeanor, it was not a 'happy' exchange. He seemed to know what he was talking about which was reassuring but with a kind of 'who-uses-manual-slr-cameras-anymore' smugness. I can certainly understand what retail does to a person (don't we all have a retail work story?) and I've responded the same way to customers before. When I first went to Bergen County Camera I was shocked! Shocked at the way Bob Gramegna made me feel so comfortable, I am by nature shy. Bob spent and hour of his time on someone who may or may not buy any of his merchandise but he showed his love of photography. This caused me to not only come back to buy my first digital camera but been coming back to every time I need or want new camera merchandise, even if it is list price. Best camera store I've ever been to. It's huge, with a wide selection of everything from antique camera, digital cameras. "film cameras", automatics, photography books, supplies, printer paper, photo albums and portfolios, binoculars, telescopes,printers, etc. The staff is pretty much all photographers and they are very thorough when it comes to explaining to you how different cameras operate.
