My friend recommended that I call on these folks to help me sell used camera gear for someone dealing with early onset dementia and other issues. Brett answered the phone and was both immediately sympathetic and professionally helpful. He did the research on the equipment I have and called twice to update me on what he found. He, of course, explained that the quotes were contingent on examination but he was clear that if the tests were even better than "average" the quotes could even go up. WOW! That blew me away. I found Madison Photo Plus a couple years ago after having the store recommended to me by another photographer who grew up in Madison, NJ, did a fair amount of business with the store and thought I'd be able to benefit from giving this family owned and operated business a look. When I finally made it to the store in the early winter of 2021-22, I was considering getting back into shooting Black & White film and during my first visit, met the owner, Jerry Harmen. During our conversation, I noticed that he had in his used display a Nikon N80 film camera. I'd had one of these cameras many years before and used it extensively until a couple of parts inside the camera failed and rendered it unusable. I really like the camera because it was small and compact, weighed very little, had a GREAT metering system very much like those found on its more expensive siblings the F100 and the professional F5 (now both long out of production). The price I paid for this unexpected find was also a pleasant surprise and I bought the camera on the spot. In the months since, I've been back many times and have made quite a few other purchases to include a used Nikon F100 film camera, two used SB-800 flashes (also in excellent condition), three different sizes and styles of tripods, 4-5 camera holsters and the first Z mount lens for my new Nikon Z9 camera. While this store doesn't have the huge inventory of B&H Photo or Adorama in NYC or New Jersey's own photo superstore, Unique Photo, what they do have is a passion for photography, the open and unselfish willingness to share information with new and existing customers and a surprisingly well stocked inventory of the various accessories that shutterbugs often realize they may need or want. Madison Photo Plus carries Canon, Nikon, Fuji and Olympus cameras and lenses for those brands. They also carry third-party lens brands like Tamron and Sigma that manufacture lenses for the camera OEMs. If you need a flash for your specific camera brand, they carry both the OEM flashes from the camera brand as well as flash units from ProMaster and Godox. If you are a beginner photographer, the folks at Madison Photo Plus will spend whatever time you need to make sure that you get gear and equipment suited to your skill level, what you intend to shoot while also ensuring that you don't walk out of the store with things you don't need. Also worth noting is that Jerry and his team provide other services such as lessons for beginners, helping you set up your gear correctly so that you can use it effectively right out of the box as well as photo contests. If you provide them your email address, a well written and thoughtful newsletter on photography, new equipment releases, tools and techniques will come your way every month. Not to be overlooked for photography enthusiasts who live in Morris County (as I do) is the fact that the store is very convenient to where I live and there have been numerous occasions where I realized I needed something on the spur of the moment and didn't have the time to order the item(s) I needed online and then, wait for its delivery. Madison Photo Plus is a locally owned store that is a ProMaster dealer. That means they carry a wide variety of ProMaster products designed for the smaller, independent camera shops and these accessories are often those that larger stores like B & H and Adorama do not routinely stock. Whether you are just starting out or are an experienced photographer, Madison Photo Plus is a great place to shop for a surprisingly wide variety of gear and products at reasonable prices and for items needing to be special ordered, honest delivery promises. In closing, this review is a replacement for my previous review, one that I wasn't all that pleased with, so I am replacing it with this one. I've been buying cameras and photo gear for the past 40 years. It's been a long time since I've visited a camera store with the convenience of online shopping. The other day I walked into Madison PhotoPlus for the first time because on their website they had a previously owned camera body of a format that I had never used before that I was interested in. I wanted to take a look at it before purchasing and they are located not to far from my home. I walked out in an hour with that camera and macro lens for that body. Bret was as helpful as can be, the price was right, and he had exactly what I wanted. I was surprised to see such a huge inventory of new and previously owned gear. I felt right at home again in a photo store like I did before online shopping became so popular. The prices here I found on par with any of the online big boys. Excellent service, knowledgeable staff. The quality of the photo prints is MUCH better than anything from a chain drug store. I highly recommend using their online service to make prints. In addition, when I got a new DSLR elsewhere, I purchased a 1-on-1 package of 6 classes to have Vincent walk me through all the new features of my camera. It was well worth the price to quickly be able to use my new DSLR. I've also stopped by to pick up last minute items before a vacation for my DSLR, they have always had what I need in stock. I am so impressed at how wonderful this shop is! They print great quality photos at a reasonable price. The prints are absolutely stunning! I used to go to chain stores and pharmacies for photo development and always found myself frustrated at the way the colors in my photos would look different than on my phone or laptop screen, and I assumed that was just the nature of iPhone photography. However, my photos look exactly as they do on screen now that I print with Madison photo plus. Also, compared to chain store prices, Madison photo is the same or a little bit more, and definitely worth it! Compared with studios and photographers, Madison Photo prints are much more reasonable in price. They even print photos in matte for the same price (matte always looks higher quality in my opinion), whereas the chain stores upcharge you for matte, and you often have to wait days for matte prints, when Madison Photo can do it in an hour. It took a little while to get used to their online upload portal, but it is easy now. You can also go in and print in-store for those who don't want to bother with their uploader. (Tip: the online print uploader works with every browser except Safari.) Also, the level of customer service and kindness here is unreal! Twice, the great guys at the shop accommodated my order and got them to me after hours, and once they even delivered the photos to my home so I could have them in time for my Dad's birthday celebration. That is unheard of in this day and age. I'm never going back to drugstore printing after I've seen these results! I really struggled between 5 and 4 stars for this place. In all honesty, for the area it is in, PhotoPlus deserves a 5 star rating. If they catered slightly more for the film photographers, I'd be delighted. If they had a used equipment section, I'd be even more delighted. The selection of filters, film and accessories was rather limited in the pro- range. The staff were very helpful and respectful. They have Cokin filters, good selection of digital cameras and lenses. A regular customer will find all they need and get a valuable advice in this shop. read more

Went to this place to get a picture on a canvas. Walked in with hopes that I would get what I would like. No! Instead I got no help, the lady behind the counter was more interested on what the fuck was on Facebook, barely answered my questions, didn't seem all that interested. Then when I finally got my answer which felt like I was pulling teeth, she tells me it's over $200 and it'll take over a week to come in. Went to Walgreens, got my picture printed in an hr on a canvas, for under $100. Here's a tip to whoever owns the place. You want costumers, treat them with respect and help them. I want so much to support local shops, but these guys aren't honest. They insisted I needed two photos for two passports (US and IR) and charged me 45 dollars instead of 25 dollars, and then used the same exact photo for both, simply cropping it differently to abide by the different standards for each country. Exceptional service, remarkable knowledge, excellent selection. I have used Madison Photo Plus as my sole camera source for the past thirty years. I am not one to exploit their knowledge and advice and then run off to a big box store or the internet. That decision paid off recently, when my high end digital camera proved to have a manufacturer defect and Jerry Harmen, owner of Madison PhotoPlus in NJ, took care of the camera's return to the manufacturer for repair. When the malfunction recurred, Jerry worked diligently with the manufacturer until finally ending his appeal with the head of the model division. The camera was replaced with the latest generation of the series line. Jerry did all of the legwork resulting in my obtaining a superior camera at no charge.
