Came here around 4pm and some of the donut flavors were sold out. However they did have 3 of their most popular options still available according the the cashier. I tried the Vietnamese coffee donut and the brown butter hazelnut donut (one of the popular one). The Vietnamese coffee didn't really taste like Vietnamese coffee. It tasted more like pupmkin spice if anything. As for the brown butter hazelnut donut, it was absolutely delicious! There were hazelnuts on top to so you get a lot of different textures and flavors. I'd like to come back and try a boston cream or another flavor. read more

Union Square Donuts? Yes please. I wish I could share a pic of the honey glazed donut, but I was too excited to sink my teeth in it. My gawd, it was so soft and fluffy. I was kinda sad when it was over. Other good ones: Vietnamese coffee, vanilla bean, maple bacon, brown butter hazelnut crunch Had my heart set on Boston cream, but they sold out. Come early if there's something you want to try! Never had their vegan donuts, just wanted to mention it in case anyone is interested. Looking forward to my next visit! read more

Placed a delivery order on their website for an office event. A day later received an email the order is canceled. Called the number in the cancellation email, they don't have the order in their system. They asked me to call every store to check. I asked why an e-commerce system for one business doesn't have all orders (mind you, again, I called the number provided in the cancellation email). Response from the employee on the phone -- "That's just not how we do things here." Dunkin has better customer service without donuts that are basically bread. Best part is the charge will be refunded in "9 to 14 days". That's how they do things there. read more

These donuts are the bomb. I'm obsessed with their honey glazed donut it hits the spot every time. I try and visit only when i know it won't be mobbed...but they usually get through the line quickly. I want to love their donut holes but the last time i got them they had absorbed so much oil it gushed out when i bit into it.... it was not enjoyable at all. I'm hoping that was just a fluke though and will give them another try next time i visit! read more

There's not much more I can say that hasn't already been said. Union Square Donuts, for me, is the gold standard in gourmet doughnuts. Whether you go for their filled, glazed, savory, or sweet options, you can't go wrong because the base dough is fantastic. If you're only going to try one flavor, get the brown butter hazelnut crunch. (I mean, unless you're allergic to hazelnuts...) It's like a butternut donut from Dunkin' Donuts, except one thousand times better and a little more sticky. However, the best thing to do is to get a variety of flavors and then slice the doughnuts into quarters so that everyone can taste a few flavors. This is also a convenient way to not notice how much fried dough you're eating for breakfast... The only flavor I've tried over the years that I didn't love is the chocolate chipotle. The classic combination of chocolate and spice just didn't work for me in doughnut form. Overall, though, Union Square Donuts deserves all the praise! read more

Items Selected: Creamsicle Strawberry Sea-Salted Bourbon Caramel Boston Cream Cinnamon Sugar Maine Blueberry Brown Butter Hazelnut Crunch Another heralded spot in the suburb of Somerville, Union Square Donuts has long been considered the Boston Metro's preeminent distributor of artisan Donuts and although some may be put off by prices that range $3-4 the fact that the place continues to sell out each and every day should be enough to suggest that the hype is at least part-justifiable. Using buzzwords like "small batch" and recently expanding their reach to Brookline where Harvard students are sure to be a market force, Union Square Donuts on Bow Street is a friendly sort of place where reclaimed woods and light music overlook a thriving market of all ages and with servers far more helpful than most 'hip' spots elsewhere the line progresses as an endless trickle, a half-dozen fried treats ringing in at just over $20. No doubt using good ingredients, the bases a crumbly buttercake or eggy sort of yeast-risen Brioche scratch-mixed and fried on-site with toppings also made in house, first tastes of Union Square's goods came from a 'Creamsicle' that reminisced of Hostess Yellow Cupcake with more dignity and less sweetness while the Strawberry ring topped with reduced-fruit frosting was not quite on-par with Blackbird's Honey-kissed version, but pretty excellent anyway. Dressing up the next puffy circle in boozy Caramel that came across almost savory thanks to the Salt, another interesting bite was the Brown Butter Glazed "Premium" selection studded with Hazelnuts while the pocket of Custard beneath Chocolate Ganache and bursting Maine Blueberries inside a Cinnamon Sugar pocket were each well worthy of the four dollar investment. read more

Can I have more stars? This place is amazing and I literally have told everyone I know about it. Delicious and I mean DELICIOUS donuts. The idea of a donut in a factory (Dunkin) is just gross now. In fact, I never knew I actually liked donuts until coming here. Homemade, doughy perfection inside and amazing toppings. The dough is just perfect, I've never had anything like it in my life. I adore their sugar donut, the "regular" or plain among a variety of choices. But I've also had their sea salt bourbon (yummy, just super sticky). Today in going to try to new chocolate PRETZEL donut...and I'm awaiting my brothers arrival in a few weeks to try to maple bacon, I feel like that's a little brothers dream donut. Do not miss this spot, be sure to come early (they used to sell out, but with their bigger location...3 feet from where they were, this may not be as frequent as issue). Also, closed Monday's. Ps. Just finished the pretzel. Omg. Yummy read more

Wow, this was hands down the best spontaneous trip I've ever been on. I literally woke up at 11:20AM today, went on Instagram, saw a post about Union Square Donuts, and begged my friend to drive me to Somerville all the way from Quincy just to get donuts before it closed at 1PM! By the time we got there, it was 12:15PM (thank goodness!). I was actually kind of scared that by the time I got there, all the donuts would be gone. However, they still have five or six different kinds of donuts left! Parking was really easy to find for us - it's street parking. We parked outside of the shop. There was a line when I got there but it was really short. When it was my turn, I literally told the worker that I wanted one of each donut! I ended up getting the green tea donut, chocolate glazed, chocolate covered pretzel, malted chocolate, cinnamon roll, and poppyseed roll. I also ordered an ice coffee and purchased some SUPER CUTE pins!! (Refer to the pics below). 50 cents per pop not too shabby! I was planning to wait until I got back to Quincy to devour these donuts, but there were tables available, so I sat down and literally took a bite out of each one. The first one I tried was the chocolate glazed donut. Omg it literally blew my mind! I don't think I ever tasted a legit donut, so this was a great place to stop by for some. I tried the green tea one next and it was SO good! Not as good as the chocolate glazed, but still yummy :) As for the malted chocolate, I am not a fan of it. The chocolate covered pretzel donut is a must try!!!!!!!!! I don't think I ever tasted anything as good as this. It has the perfect balance of both sweet and salty. The decor of the shop is simple and cute. It definitely has that cute cafe look to it with its chairs and benches. It's also an open kitchen so you can see what the staff is doing behind the cash registers. The staff is super friendly! They gave us complementary donut holes because the shop was almost closing. I ended up making a second purchase and bought all the chocolate glazed donuts before they closed. I spent probably around $40 here. Kind of pricey but SO worth it! Expect me to be back soon :) read more

Obviously everybody loves Union Square Donuts on an individual basis - if you haven't figured it out already from their 350+ reviews then my review certainly won't make that big a difference. BUT! I also put in a large-scale order with Union Square Donuts for my wedding party - who wants wedding cake when you can have wedding donuts?? The 120 donuts actually got picked up and brought to the venue before the pizza got there, soooo while people still dove into that pizza, it was nothing like the way they dove into those donuts. Sheer bliss. If you're not ordering wedding donuts, you're doing it wrong. Plus, they have vegan and seasonal options! Yum. read more

The new location brought along some new flavors with it. Apple crumb! Creamy peanut butter! Zesty lemon! Mmmm Mmmm savory donut-muffin hybrids. Powdery raspberry filled. OMG heaven!  I hate to say this but I pop in every weekend (don't judge me. I'm addicted) and something I've noticed lately is the donuts have been excessively greasy. It's disappointing and upsetting to be forced to throw these pricey bad boys away bcz the grease is so overwhelming. Because of this, I have to lower my initial 5 star rating. However, I'm sure once they catch wind of grease-gate (considering I've heard other patrons make the same observation) they'll fix it bcz the donuts aren't greasy every visit. So, if you're reading this and haven't visited yet, you've already heard how amazing their donuts are. Do yourself a favor a pop in for a unique donut experience. read more

When I heard that the donuts here run you for $3 EACH I was NOT having any of it. Well, old Renee wasn't. New Renee can appreciate the finer things in life and donuts definitely fall within that realm. Stepped into USD and barely made my way through the door--the shop was stuffed. Play it safe and get here before noon. I didn't mind the wait because I was offered a free t-shirt/tote and a free cup of coffee (I don't think this happens normally, it was just by chance that these spirited souls planted themselves here that weekend.) I had done my research beforehand and knew what I'd order: brown sugar hazelnut crunch, maple bacon donut, and a savory cheddar rosemary square for kicks. Once I took my first bite into the hazelnut crunch I instantly knew what made these donuts so special. A sudden surge of renewed purpose in life had jolted my mind and body. The donuts were full bodied and dense, yet, light and fluffy. I hate to give you such a contrast of description, but they somehow managed to achieve this paradox. The maple bacon was good, but the show stealer was the hazelnut crunch; I found that it had the perfect sweetness to it. The cheddar square was also such a treat after popping it in the microwave! Don't think any further, just do, and get your bad self over here. read more

Don't get me wrong, these donuts are great! But I feel like they're different than before--smaller and doughier, and not as gigantic, airy, and zeppole-like from when I first had them. Maybe it was a bad batch that day, but I was just a bit disappointed this time around. Grabbed a couple so my co-workers could see what the hype was about. Got brown butter hazelnut crunch, caramel bourbon, maple bacon, chocolate covered pretzel, blackberry lime + basil, and birthday cake. They loooooved them! The caramel bourbon and hazelnut crunch were really good, but I think my favorite may have been the blackberry lime + basil. Surprised by how good that frosting was on that one--the flavors balanced perfectly. Pricey for donuts ($3-3.50) and even though they're good I don't really see it being worth the money. If I'm back it'd be for a special occasion or something or to just get one donut to split. Definitely try this place to be a part of the donut hype though because they do unique flavors really well! read more

Bought 3 most popular donuts, Raspberry Lime, BrienButter Hazelnut and Maple Bacon. They were all good BUT I do agree with some of the reviews, the flavour was kinda missing. Our fav out of the 3 is the Raspberry Lime, and our least fav is the Maple Bacon, didn't like the combination of the bacon and the donut's sweetness. Generally the dough taste different from standard donuts, seems like they use more yeast or baking soda, the donuts are bigger than standard size, the dough is bready and fluffy. Normal standard donuts have a more dense dough to the bite. I think the price is fair for such designer donuts. U can't compare the quality with mass produce donuts from Dunkin or Krispy Kreme, it won't be fair to do that. Overall, good experience but will not make a trip just for the donuts. read more

Best donuts in the area- with friendly service. Our favorites were the Belgian chocolate, seasonal strawberry, and funfetti. By far my favorite donut place - I often come here after a red-eye flight arriving at Logan and they never fail to disappoint! First thing that stood out to me is the texture. It's soft but dense and doughy, chewy. Kinda bread-like. Different from the fluffy or cake-like donuts I've had in the past. I really like the thick, chewy texture but find that it suits certain donut types better than others. I liked the brown butter hazelnut crunch and really liked the cranberry spice (cashier's recommendation) and thought the thick texture balanced the lighter glaze/topping. I didn't like their Boston Creme; the heavy dark chocolate frosting with the dense dough was too much. Also, for a donut that size and costing $4, I was looking forward to a good deal of creamy custard spilling forth from the first bite. What disappointment. They put like a dollop of cream in it. My bf thought the maple bacon was good but could do without the bacon haha. Yeah, the bacon didn't look appetizing. Definitely on the pricey side at $3-4 per donut. I would stop by again for the cranberry spice donut. read more

While the donuts were sweet, the experience left a bitter taste in my mouth. I had an issue of how things were processed. I paid with a card and was asked directly if I wanted to tip. Foodbaby came here, so I came here - duh. Their style of donuts is big and fluffy. They have bold, interesting flavors. For two people, we got four donuts - blackberry basil lime, lemon ricotta, brown butter hazelnut crunch and the sea salted bourbon caramel. Out of all of those, the blackberry basil lime was my favorite. The flavors were great - you could definitely taste each, and none of them overpowered another. I also really liked the filling of the lemon ricotta one a lot. The filling is lemon ricotta, and the glaze on top is chocolate topped with pistachios. The sea salted bourbon caramel definitely had that bourbon taste, and it was way more than just a hint. While the hazelnut crunch one was good, it was just eh compared to the other ones we had. There wasn't a lot of seating, so we took them to go. Downside? They give them to you in boxes that aren't high enough for the donuts. So, if you were to close them, the icing gets all over the top of the box instead of in your mouth. After just being in the box for a couple of minutes, I found that these donuts were actually pretty greasy - not cute. But yeah, I'd come back here again if I find myself in Boston. Gotta be on the lookout for that Boston Crème, which they didn't have when I came here. read more

This place is amazing. This is even coming from someone who could easily pass up a donut. I had heard about it from multiple sources and figured I had to try it. I came here with my parents and little sister. We got a variety to try: Maple Bacon, Vanilla Bean, Brown Butter Hazelnut Crunch, Vegan Chocolate Frosted, Sea Salt Bourbon Caramel, & Malted Chocolate. Our favorites would be: 1. Butter Hazelnut Crunch 2. Maple Bacon 3. Vanilla Bean However, it is almost hard to choose favorites when everything is seriously awesome! The Malted Chocolate was tasty, too, and the Sea Salt Bourbon Caramel was decent but pretty bitter and a little too salty. We got the Vegan Chocolate cause they were out of the other chocolate flavor we wanted and it was very good - had I not known that it was vegan, I would never have guessed. The texture of these donuts is insane. It is like biting into a cloud at first but afterwards they have some chew to them. The place is nice and clean and the employees run the place quickly and efficiently. Be sure to get there pretty early or they will be sold out of the more popular flavors. Union Square Donuts is one of the rare donut shops that gets the "dough" in doughnuts right. I am an avid donut hunter, and I haven't found any other place that sells such fluffy donuts. Kane's Donuts and other places simply cannot compare. If you're here for the first time, I would definitely recommend the Brown Butter Hazelnut Crunch. If you're like me and love donuts, but not the ones with tons of sugared icing on top, this is the perfect donut for you. The crushed hazelnuts offer a perfect crunch to every bite, and the slight saltiness really balances well with the sweet. Sometimes they sell out if you go too late in the day, in which case I would recommend the Sea Salt Bourbon Caramel. read more

Bostonians rarely "cross the river" for cuisine or nightlife in Somerville and Cambridge, but Union Square Donuts is worth the effort. My wife and I woke up early on a Sunday to drive here. Sunday means free parking, and arriving early - 7:30 - means there are parking spots available right outside the door that won't be there anymore at 8:30. We parked, walked in, and were second in line. We wanted to try everything, but there are a lot of flavors to choose from. My wife likes cake doughnuts and citrus flavors, so she really enjoyed the dense, brightly flavored lemon poppy doughnut. She also tried a sea-salted bourbon caramel, which had layers of flavor that just kept coming, all good. I chose the Vietnamese coffee and Boston cream. The coffee donut was really tasty, had a great chewy texture - as do all the yeast-leavened donuts on the menu - and it was probably the only donut we got that didn't leave a ton of sugar on my hands. It didn't really have a coffee flavor, however. The Boston cream was run-of-the-mill, and Union Square Donuts shouldn't feel obligated to have it on their menu; this is Somerville, after all. The coffee selection was a bit lackluster, and could use a bit of development. Specifically, there were no details about the coffee's provenance. Atmosphere was trendy but chill. Service was warm and friendly. There were plenty of places to sit. Overall, I'm glad Union Square Donuts is close to where I live. But not too close. I fear how many donuts I would eat if it were easier to get here. read more

If you go when you near their closing time, you will see that they'll have very few selections left, so don't wait 30 minutes before it closes on a Sunday afternoon before the holiday (oops).
