We spent two nights at Alderbrook Resort which was great, but pricey once you factor in the restaurant. We found Union Deli on Yelp and honestly it was one of those happy discoveries you remember long after the trip. Food was every bit as good at a fraction of the cost, and the staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming in that way that's hard to fake. The decor is nothing to write home about but it's comfortable and has a great local vibe. If you're staying at the resort, do yourself a favor and eat here at least once. So glad we found this little hole in the wall. read more

We didn't agree with the high rating for this establishment. Sure, it might be rated high due to the lack of choices in the area. Customer service lacked big time during our pick-up. The kids ordered ice cream that was served in a lid? Weird. My friend called in our order for a large and medium pizza. After a few minutes passed by, she called back to update our order from a medium to a large pizza. That when everything went south. They seemed upset with us. I thought it would make sense to order a large since there isn't a lot of food in the area. Plus, we were hiking in the area for the next 5 days. We stopped into Union Square Deli after it was recommended by a local resident and I'm so glad we did. We both decided to try the pizza (per the recommendation) and each built our own. It was absolutely wonderful. Then we tried the Olympic ice cream, which we were told is made locally and it did not disappoint. What really stood out, though, was the customer service. I wish I had caught the names of the woman and young man who helped us...they were terrific. Friendly, helpful, and attentive. Started our day off with coffee, which this place was a quick, convenient walk from the cabin we were staying at. Coffee and Lotus drinks were good, quick, and affordable. Locals are so sweet. Was greeted by the workers immediately and then also by a group of older gentleman having breakfast. Had ended our night with a pizza that sounded too good to pass up. It was delicious and also decent pricing. Tip: One lady told me that the medium & large pizza are basically the same amount of slices, ones just a little bigger, so incase you want to save a few bucks. Again the locals amazed me by asking about our puppy and chit-chatting. I suggest checking their hours - I was there on a Tuesday but it says it's closed on Yelp. Nitpicky wise, I was watching their video drink offerings while I waited and ordered a hibiscus gin and tonic. It was given to me in a cosmopolitan style glass, with no ice, instead of the glass in the photo (a normal highball glass) Tasty but very hard to pick up and got warm quickly. My sandwich took way longer to get than I expected, especially as I was the only customer at the time - I've worked on the sandwich/cold line at multiple restaurants in my day, so I don't think I'm out of line in having timeline expectations. I think part of it was while I ordered a cold sandwich (on purpose, toasty bread tends to cut the roof of my mouth up), they ended up toasting the bread as if it were a hot sandwich - and I assume the person didn't know the menu. I said I'd wanted regular/plain chips and I got maui onion, possibly that was the only option or it was that and salt and vinegar, I was a bit confused by that. While that wasn't optimal, the sandwich was extremely delicious, with ingredients evenly distributed (hey usually there's a big lump of meat in the middle and stuff is all over the place, so I really value this!) and the bread was in my top 5 of all the breads I have ever had a sandwich on in 50 years of being alive, going to culinary school, and being picky about where I eat. Wherever they get their rolls from is made of magic. I admit I don't have a ton of experience in places in smaller town counter service places where you bus your own table and tip before you've even gotten food. I felt awkward when I tried to make eye contact/body language in a drawn out way to say thanks to the employee 8 feet away on my way out to say thanks and it was great! but they were engaged in a personal conversation with a relative that had come in - and didn't look at me or acknowledge me at all as I left despite facing me and not really be able to miss me being there. I may be old fashioned, but a friendly greeting and a polite goodbye is my expectation when I'm the only customer in a place, regardless of what I tip. So basically I would eat there again - if I was local I'd make it a go to, but as a visitor to the city, I sure wouldn't tip 25% tip when ordering, after my experience for sure. I'd considered going back to get pizza for dinner due to pizza reviews, but felt too awkward after the impersonal experience. Long review but I have a lot of feelings about my money spent on food service. TL:DR Eat there at least once if you are in the area, because your taste buds will be happy, you can decide if your customer service experiences are good personally or not and you want to be a regular/how to tip. read more

My wife and I decided to have our family time at a little cafe/deli called Union Square Deli. She is a frequent customer and has been since she was first pregnant, and had to drive by often to go to the doctor's appointments. I had never been, but since I'm a Yelp kind of person, I'm curious to try new places. The menu seemed unremarkable, like menus I have seen before. But a couple of things I will remember. It's not only a deli, but also has an ice cream area, and a whole separate section for bar/ alcohol area. Also, as you'll notice in the close-up picture, they seem to have what I consider dark rye bread which I find at very few places. My Reuben sandwich was extra yummy because it had thick dark rye bread, with what I consider a fair amount of meat, and tasted very good especially with some chili dolloped on top. Also for you people that have Celiac or are gluten free, my wife would approve, because they have gluten-free crust for the pizzas, and gluten-free bread which she had on her favorite sandwich the salmon sammie. The chili was also gluten-free approved.. For those looking for some ambiance, it seemed pretty low-key on a Saturday afternoon but I also noticed on their chalkboard they seem to have open mic night every Friday evening.. Second time visiting and decided to try the veggie panini with a side snickerdoodle cookie. Starting out, service is quick and attentive. Very accommodating for substitutions and super friendly. Lovely little seating area with a cute little bar. Food came out quickly. And plenty of food it was. My panini was about twice the size I was expecting. Toasty with plenty of filling, I thought the honey mustard was a nice contrast of taste with the veggies and provolone I had them substitute for the Swiss. Took home the second half for a snack later. The snickerdoodle was good size and had a good amount of cinnamon sugar. The only change I wish was that it would be slightly warmed until a light crust developed. I am notoriously picky about my snickerdoodles as warm cookies were the main reason I showed up for high school. All in all, I would definitely recommend this deli. We'll be back soon. read more

Even though there aren't a lot of food options in Union, this is a pretty good option! I have only tried their sandwiches and pizza here. For sandwiches, I really like their Big John club and their Italian hot sandwich. My husband really likes their French dip but definitely on the smaller side. Actually, all their sandwiches aren't too big but they came with your choice of a small cup of potato salad or bag of chips. Their pizza was just okay to me, I would choose their sandwiches instead. So the first day my husband and I came in, I ordered a breakfast sandwich with bacon, egg and cheese Togo. After we left I realized they forgot the egg on it but we were already back at our hotel. She Seemed ok with it but then after I paid she went and was whispering to the cook. I overheard her say "just for the difference of an egg!?" I confronted the cook when she walked by and she sounded sincere saying she enjoys making food and just wanted to make sure she was doing it right but who knows. The older woman at the counter seemed stressed out both days and I heard her tell someone "I haven't even had a chance to drink my coffee" no one cares lady. You are in the business of customer service, get up 10 mins sooner and drink your coffee. This was the most amazing gluten free pizza I have ever had. The employee was very helpful explaining my gluten free options (pizza, sandwiches, and salads can all be made completely GF). The atmosphere was relaxed and the view outside of the restaurant was gorgeous. Calzones cannot be made gluten free but as a celiac I was impressed and satisfied with the options I did have. Union Square Deli is a short drive 2-minute from the Alderbrook Resort and offers simple, but filling, less expensive breakfast options. We ordered a breakfast sandwich with sausage, the Breakfast Scramble, and a mocha for just shy of $20. It took about 10-15 minutes everyone in our group (of 5) to get their food, but I imagine that was because there was just one person in the kitchen, and everything was made to order, so it all came out nice and hot. We all also shared a couple cinnamon rolls, which were a tad dry on the outside - the center part was more to my liking. They also offer pizza later in the day and have a section where they serve ice cream scoops, both of which we will need to check out the next time we're in town! read more

We went here for dinner on a Saturday night and had a good experience. Located just minutes away from the Alderbrook resort. It's smallish and a fit for DDD--nothing fancy but making great homemade food. The pizza was excellent, crispy thin crust and generous toppings. I had a small veggie pie and the kid had a cheese pizza. Tons of fresh cheese. My veggie pie was one of the best I've had. The wife had a French Dip and loved it. Everything is cooked in the oven. Alfredo sauce with chicken and artichokes. But by accident, I got the Barge. Although that looks really good with loaded of ingredients. I don't eat pork, so I went back and got the right pizza. I was not disappointed. The flavor of the sauce is not overly salty. Most of the flavor is from the ingredients naturally. The dough is just right. Not too chewy. My family has a house on the canal and this time I brought my friend to visit. Me, her and my grandpa have been at the canal for three days and came here, to the deli, four times. Not only does it have a special menu for the new inside out movie with wonderful drinks to match the characters but it also has a huge selection of other drinks like coffee, smoothies, Italian sodas and much more. Food wise, the restaurant has anything and everything you could ask for. My friend and I personally loved the grilled cheese and cinnamon rolls. Unfortunately, we were unable to try the pizza and other great looking food due to our short stay. Throughout our visits, we ran into a regular three out of the four times named Keith. Everyone in the room knew his name as he greeted each person. He loved to chat and has an amazing old fashioned car. The workers behind the counter were very kind to him, and everyone else. The girl that had been taking our order even complemented my nails. Overall, the food was great with an exquisite selection and the drinks were magnificent with flavor and creativity. Wow! What a gem! My family ordered takeout here on Saturday night when we were staying at Alderbrook. We got two pizzas (create your own) and a French Dip. Everything was delicious. I love that both the pizzas and hot sandwiches are cooked in a brick oven. It really makes a world of difference. Ordering over the phone and picking it up went flawlessly, too. The year of COVID (2021) has been brutal for the service industry. Next to the order area was a handwritten sign explaining they have been trying to get additional staff for a couple of months and to please be patient and nice with their staff. Three teens and a young 20-something were making sandwiches and manning the bar (the oldest one did that...), and in short they were super-busy. We understood and relaxed in their open-air patio area with a nice cold beer. Our sandwiches came out about 15-20 minutes later and they were superb. I had a quick chat with the bartender and she told me that she helps the owner by filling in when she isn't at her regular job, and that they are having a very tough time getting people to work there. The good news is that it hasn't affected the food. Delicious. We will return! read more

Ok so where to start is the real question. This may be my new favorite restaurant in the whole world. We got the inside out special drinks and they might be putting Jamba Juice out of business because they were truly the best smoothies I have ever had in my life. When walking into this deli I didn't know what to expect but I was VERY VERY pleasantly surprised, it was an ice cream parlor, a pizza place, a walk through, a drive through, a sit down establishment, a winery, a place to gather, a cafe, a deli, and overall a pretty incredible place. After a trip I don't think I would ever typically go home and rave about somewhere I had eaten but this place is very different because I will be telling many many people about my actually incredibly ideal experiences that I had everyday. Oh and if I had to recommend something to get if it's your first time I would have to go with the grilled cheese which does not happen to be on the actual menu but once again this place is pretty incredible and they will FULLY make anything you want or need when it comes to actually anything. I loved the grilled cheese so so much other than the crust which happened to be a little hard to swallow but that was easy to get past when you look at the big picture and then if they had not discontinued this drink I would recommend getting the anxiety which was a strawberry and mango smoothie (the best I have ever had actually like actually) but if it is out due to us getting 4 of them in one day then you may want to try fully any of the other drinks because they were all INCREDIBLY IDEAL. And now going home today I am going to be very sad about it all but a big part of that I'm going to be honest will be because we took our last and final trip to the deli this afternoon, but we did get to see Keith again which I would fully recommend so that was pretty great.
