The prime rib dip was the best we have ever tasted! The meat was tender and juicy, the bread was homemade and excellent! The au jus was to die for! And he also gives you horseradish sauce to put on if you want, which we did and it added that extra zing we like. Don't be deceived by the laid back looks of the store, the food was excellent! Wow! First I noticed the big blueberry muffins freshly baked throughout the day. Next the really large selection of Olympic Mountain Ice Cream. Great selection! In the cooler I noticed plastic take out containers filled with potato salad and with deviled eggs. Also homemade clam chowder. My friend and I split a French dip and it was excellent. I took home a container of clam chowder, a single serving homemade quiche, 2of the 4 deviled eggs I had with my sandwich and a blueberry muffin for later/tomorrow. There are lots of other sandwiches and sides to order, I'll be back to try a different sandwich and enjoy a scoop of ice cream. Took friends and family in for a couple scoops after dinner last night, as we often do since our favorite restaurant is across the street. The owner was visibly intoxicated and not welcoming. His speech was slurred and his eyes were telling. My five year old son saw the PINK cotton candy ice cream, and pointed to it immediately. The man shouted to him "what are you!? A GIRL!!?!" in front of many of his friends/family. He was embarrassed. It was mortifying. What a bully! I asked him to apologize to my young son for being so disrespectful and he mockingly relied..."ummm I'm sorry?" Why does he care what color of ice cream he sells? Why does he think it's appropriate to bully little kids at an ice cream store? I'm so frustrated. read more

Simply a MUST if in Union for the day or make a special trip out and give these guys a try. We drove in the first visit and enjoyed the fresh out of the oven lasagna quiché and smoked salmon. We really enjoyed talking with Kurt so we decided to come back on our second visit by boat since there is a nice dock and we enjoyed some ice cream. Food is good and I have always supported them, PRE COVID. Was up in Union for the week, went to Marina Market for meals as well as Hama Hama and Alderbrook which all had excellent Covid practices in place, we felt extremely safe, UNTIL we went for a cone at the Union Country Store, where the Owner did not have a mask on, nor did a few employees, and the ones who did had them under their chin, not did I see adequate measures in place for social distancing and sanitation which I'm very familiar with. I get it, its HOT. I wear a mask 60 hrs a week at work, and a shield, and gloves, its uncomfortable, but not as uncomfortable as getting sick or getting someone else sick. Please keep your customers and employees safe or CLOSE until you are told by the CDC and WA Health Dept that you can operate without Covid measures in place. Would love to return to supporting your business when I'm in town. read more

This place is awesome! We go here every summer multiple times. Some of the best ice cream around. Its really good!! They make home made dips. Kind of spendy but they are impressive. The crab dip and the clam dip are awesome! Fresh baguettes are soft and smell wonderful. They make great sandwiches. Very cool place. Behind the store is a house on the hill. We were staying around the area but dropped by to check out the place after reading reviews. Asked for 2 kid size scoops of ice-cream and was charged 6dollars each. Even if there were no such item on the menu the very least one would expect is for the staff to make that known to the customer... not an unreasonable request?!! I've been a customer here for a long time but I won't be getting coffee or food here anymore. They have complete disregard that there is a pandemic going on. The people serving and preparing food are not wearing masks. Customers and people are sitting inside with no masks. Some are eating - that might be legal but any infected clients will be expose the maskless employees who breathe on, touch, sneeze on your coffee lid, food, etc. I want to support this and other local businesses and these folks have been nice in the past, but no thanks. I'll drive farther to get something where people understand what it means to keep the community safe during a pandemic. read more

While staying nearby at the Alderbrook Resort, we ventured out a bit and stumbled upon this little gem. It's nothing fancy, but the owner is completely endearing and accommodating. I may be bias because I worked here as a teenager, but this is one of my favorite places. I now live in Seattle, but when I come into Union to visit family and friends I always make sure to stop by the country store. I love getting coffee and breakfast here. Kirk makes the best cinnamon rolls, so if you see one available make sure you grab it. Last weekend, Brandon made my sister and I eggs Benedict (so good!!). What a gem! After a long day of playing in the water we stopped for ice cream and it's just adorable inside. The smell of their daily special - prime rib sandwich with Au ju was so aromatic in the air that we decided to eat there as well. There's a quaint hammock out front and tables behind their little garden, used for fresh herbs that they use in the cooking. This place is the cutest country store ever! They have everything you may have forgotten to bring from home (in the case that you're vacationing). More importantly, they serve Olympic Mountain ice cream. The staff is nice, and they scoop generously. If you "need" to come by boat, you can park at the marina across the street. All though this place does have good ice cream and is cute, the pure neglect of food safety and hygiene I witnessed cannot be ignored ( even without a pandemic). I never write reviews because I have been In The industry for almost 15 years and consider yelp to be mostly undeserved vigilante justice when it comes to negative reviews. I went there on Tuesday with my kid to get a cone the guy at the counter was not wearing a mask or gloves. He scooped ice cream for us and then used a dry paper napkin to wipe the ice cream scoops off and then put the scoops on a bare counter top. And proceeded to use them for others. No hand washing was involved the entire time and he helped multiple customers( both credit card and paper money were touched). At one point he licked a small amount of ice cream off his hand. Wow, this place was good and fun! Our family stayed at the Alderbrook Resort and headed to the Store for Sunday morning breakfast. What a fun place. They have a little bit of everything. My wife and I ordered breakfast which included biscuits and gravy and eggs benedict. Yum, yum yum. I'm not the world's biggest B&G fan but these were outstanding! I highly recommend this place. I was really impressed by this store. I thought it was neat that the owner only opens the place for the summer months and then spends the rest of his time working and whatnot down in CA. THE BEST thing in the store is the Olympic Mountain Ice Cream. This is about the best ice cream I've ever had. Otherwise, he has a great selection of beer, snacks and all the odds & ends you'd need out there. I also appreciate a lot of homemade baked goods, dips and other edibles that he and the staff experiment with.
