WOW! I've been walking past this place almost every day for the past six months and for some reason…read morehave never gone in. Finally, I went recently with a friend and it warmed my heart. They have live music in the back room which is a cozy, tight space that pretty much ensures you'll make eye contact with the performers. I'm not sure if we just got lucky or if the talent is always that good but the two bands we saw were both so great in their own way. There's a great variety of genres and clientele. Finding seating in the main front area can be tough but there was plenty of seating in the music area and the back porch. This is the kind of place I want to become a regular at!

Williamsburg was still in the early innings of its transformation, with places like SEA already hinting at what was coming. At the same time, Calvin Harris was equally early in his journey, years before becoming a global, arena-filling superstar. In a venue that intimate, the sound was mind-boggling, the party was incredible, and there was a feeling that something much bigger was beginning even if none of us fully understood it yet. I was young, dumb, reckless, and wonderfully carefree, living through a refreshingly simple chapter before New York darkened my heart. That night remains legendary and, quite simply, absolutely incredible.

There's plenty of seating, and it feels very warm and cozy within. Ordering at the bar took a little while, but the bartender was very friendly and once I had the drinks, it was a great space to relax within. We had some of the ciders, which were a great flavor and taste. I also loved the decor behind the bar and also throughout the building. There's a yellow, comforting warmth throughout the space, something that I loved on a cold winter evening. If you want a chill space with excellent vibes and a warm atmosphere, Skinny Dennis is definitely the spot for you. I think they also have live music frequently - no one was performing while we were there, although I did notice someone beginning to set-up just as we were heading out. I highly recommend!

Get there on time, seats tend to fill up quickly. Bathrooms are small, try and use it before or somewhere else to avoid lines. Acoustics in the theatre are nice, I highly recommend coming here for a show! Small and intimate. Enjoy your show! I know I did!

Mikael the bartender is heavenly with the customer service and he maintains a cool vibe and deminur. Juice the manager is there from the start till closing and is very detailed oriented. Juice gets the job done no matter what situations arise. Juice layed back chill and runs around all night to handle every single detail. All the employees here should be commended as everyone here leads by example and it's a pleasure to finally be in a bar with no attitudes and pettiness. Kudos Brooklyn Art Haus.

I was glad I had friends familiar enough with the space that they took us to an elevated area in the back that felt like a VIP lounge but was open to anyone meandering the space. This back area might not be ideal for those who like to stay close to the DJ, but for the rest of us olds who like it in the quieter area and like to sit from time to time, this spot was absolutely perfect. I went on a sweltering night, and though the ACs were on they weren't powerful enough to combat the heat emanating off all the hot and sweaty bodies around the club. You don't really go to a club like this to be comfortable though. The DJ was ok the night I went, but I was thankful to be with a great crew and for that back area so that I could sit from time to time. I am sounding like someone who does not go to the club and am okay with that.

Rodney is on a power trip. This is a bouncer who threw my friend out (including 8 of us) after twisting his arm for leaning on an empty table. He did the same thing 5 minutes earlier to my girlfriend, telling her she can't lean on the table (she's 99 lbs) by the bar in the front. Rodney is butt-ugly and his obvious sexual frustration led him to tossing a bunch of us out even though we had 2 open tabs at the bar. You can't miss this person. Picture hellboy but without make-up and a thousand times uglier. What's funny is Rodney was determined to toss people out, when we're spending good money at the bar and dancing away in the front on an obvious slow night. Management has to realize they need to look into this loser because I'm sure we're not the first to come across him. I understand Union Pool can care less with my review and it's a hipster paradise but I just want others to know about this bouncer. You cannot miss him, it's Rodney. He looks exactly like the monkey boy with a chain in The Golden Child... you know the movie with Eddie Murphy.. one of the henchman for the main villian. Thank you Union Pool for employing this moron. Me and my circle of friends will not be back ever again. I secretly thank him because now I have an excuse to never go there. Yes! read more

$2 beers anywhere makes me smile. But when some bearded squirrel bartender oozing self-importance intentionally makes you wait at the bar on several different occasions, it's enough to let loose the inner Lou Ferrigno. Maybe I needed a cool monocle or some other prop gimmick to let that guy know I was thirsty and my BAC was plummeting dangerously low. I am a calm person, but this place makes me want to karate kick peoples' heads off. The outdoor space and fire pit = nice. The music, as I recall, was usually pretty good too. Some of the clientele might need to ease up and take themselves a little less seriously tho. I know everybody's trying to do their thing, but seriously. With so many costumes, it's like every night here is Halloween. Friends, just because you own a guitar, doesn't mean you're a rock star. All in all, this is a place I used to really like. Now it's a place I feel embarrassed for. From the meatheads with walkie talkies thinking their Jean Claude Vann Damm, to the people learning how to make out in the corner. So unnatural. This place suckssssss. My friend and I went to the bathroom together (a normal occurrence among women going out together) and were literally chased out of bathroom bc the teeny tiny bathroom attendant thought we were doing coke??? And wouldn't let anyone go into the stalls together but had no problem escorting the men to the urinals where they could just as easily probably do coke together???? I guess you can't do coke alone and can only be with another person??? Anyway as we were leaving the bathroom my friend and I who literally just went in together to pee were like oh sorry we're leaving the bar (like I honestly thought there was a rule to make sure the lines didn't get so long so that's why we weren't allowed to be in the bathroom together) and he was yelling at us and honestly I was getting mad and slammed the door on this teeny tiny bathroom attendant. Anyway he told us we were banned and I was like how are you going to know who we are you teeny tiny bathroom attendant. Anyway this place sucks read more

UNION POOL SCAM!!! BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!!! Preface: This is my very first review because this matter needs to be addressed. I've put my freshly purchased beer on a ledge right next to me for a minute while talking to my friends and without me noticing, a barback took it away. It ensued a 15 minutes argument with the bartender in the backyard area, which was very confrontational from the very beginning. The bar manager was having a good time ridiculing me behind my back with faces and hands gestures until i caught a glimpse of it and called it out, to which the bartender tried to blame it on me living my beer unattended and kept looking for an excuse to kick me out. He finally gave me a beer (which was less pricey than what i actually paid for the first one) with a nice, and i quote: "take this f***ing beer and go away". I wonder if it was a one time incident or a very elaborate scam perpetrated by the establishment to coerce its patrons into buying more drinks. read more

Spent the whole day at this place with my girlfriend & another couple...spent more money than anyone in there... was cool & chill the whole time we spent there... UNTIL the so called manager Ryan came in...big guy big beard...& was the most unprofessional manager I've ever seen...the girls got excited over the photo booth & out of excitement yelled out in joy...they had been drinking... but this is a bar...that's what u do at bars lol.... they didn't cause any disturbance but the so called manager RYAN called his one bouncer over to remove the grls from the bar....for absolutely no reason other than he was in a bad mood...u can tell...it gets worse...on the way out he starts cursing out the females...that's where i step in...!!! Let's just say he's lucky....& to that I'd like to say Ryan....F*ck You! We will never return... if I could give this place -stars...I would.... don't go here unless u wanna get kicked out for having fun... read more

yes i have lived in williamsburg for the last 12 years, and have been going to union pool for the extent of that time period. it has always been the place to go after hours for coed bathrooms and tecates, but let's just say, the standards have significantly been lowered. okay, so I have a kid and a husband, but i had friends in town from SF and wanted to take them out for the evening. the bar was empty and upon our departure we were screamed at by the doorman who treated us like sub-human beings. perhaps this would be appropriate at a rave situation circa 1999 but we are paying customers and deserve to be treated with a certain amount of decency. sad to say it just isn't what it used to be. bravo for turning me into a yelp review writing moaner, but you brought it upon yourselves. think twice before tweaking out on long term customers, not everyone is a douche bag out to destroy your image of ultimate hipsterdom. read more

Forget about the millions of people in here, forget that its filled with hipsters. It doesent matter. Its the staff who you will hate in this place, from the bartenders down to the security. Yeah they have an annoying drunk crowd to deal with but, everytime I've been here its always a problem I dont know if its a race or culture thing, If someone mentions this place I say absolutly not, unless you want to start a brawl. This place is not cool. Absolutely terrible service. It took about five minutes for the bartender who looks like Mario with a bleach job to get around to serving us instead of socializing with his coworkers. When I told him I would not be tipping due to the awful service he snatched the (unopened) beers back and told me I could go **** myself. When I asked for my money back he continued to harass me calling me little girl and saying I could get the **** out. I have never been treated so rudely. It seemed ridiculous to be kicked out of the bar for this reason so I went to the back to be served at the outside bar but he actually left his post and got security to come find my friend and I to be escorted out, yelling and ranting the entire time. Do not go to Union Pool unless you want to get into a power struggle with some ridiculous jerk. read more

I'm semi-surprised this place hasn't been shut down by the health dept. Their bathrooms are the roughest and smelliest I have come across in quite some time. It smells like rot (as someone mentioned earlier) and I have walked in twice to people having sex- not even in the bathroom stall but in the hallway! Union Pool is really dirty. The other annoying thing is most of the bartenders are total, total assholes. I remember half of them from when I lived in Boston. Just a bunch of unfriendly fucks. There's a girl that works there that is really sweet- she is totally out of place. $3 Yuengling is nice on the patio in the back if you get there super early before any gross people arrive, and that taco truck makes awesome guacamole. I feel bad for them they are stuck in the back of yucky Union Pool. read more

HORRIBLE! I was there last night, was completely ignored by the bartender who was literally right in front of my face (the guy with bleach blonde hair and a black mustache). I eventually was served by the other bartender who took care of me (I gave him a decent tip for helping me out while the other guy still ignored me). I opened a tab and paid with cash. A few hours later I came back because I realized they forgot to give me my drivers license and credit card back. The blonde guy looked hammered behind the bar (very unprofessional) and charged my card anyway even though I told him I already paid. I have never been treated so rudely in my life. He even told me to leave after he voided his error. I will never return to this spot and I hope that the blonde rude bartender will be fired. read more

I have this phobia about cool hip places either being a) cash only or b) requiring a minimum amount for credit cards. Seriously, why most places do that?? When I found there was no minimum on credit cards here, I was jumping for joy (because honestly, I am trying to cut back on drinking. Plus I always run out of cash for some reason). Union Pool is in a league of its own. A bar, outdoor seating and a dance/conert area all in the same place? Geez that's pretty huge! Did I mention there is a taco truck inside to satisfy your hunger. I have no complaints. The place gets packed even on a weekday (well we all know why) but I always have a blast myself every time I am here. Now this is a stupid question: I dont think I saw a pool table in there. Why was it named Union Pool then? beats me read more

Wonder why everyone else in the world thinks Williamsburg is a joke? Well go to this bar on a Friday or Saturday night. Sure, the taco truck is awesome, but to get to it you'll have to wade through a sea of some of the most ridiculous-looking trustafarians you've ever witnessed in your life--seriously there must be a sewer grate someone left open next door to this place where these monsters can catch a waft of PBR. In other words if you feel like mingling with the silt at the bottom of the gene pool, have a blast--but if you're looking for a bar in the area with character I'd suggest Brooklyn Ale House, the Levee or anywhere else that doesn't play music by Dan Deacon and Animal Collective. There are few places in the world that are as disgusting as this urine soaked petri dish. If your idea of a good night is swapping les savy fav records AND a little bit of Hpv, then DIG IN! Nothing beats the washed up nobodies that slime their way to this place friday and saturday nights. If you are ever lost in the burg looking for union pool then just step onto the grease trail that flows through the streets straight to its door. If you are in a heated game of I spy and desperately need to find a girl with a cliche tattoo, white belts, poor music taste, or ironic mustaches and pseudo-intellectual babble about books they never actually read then GO HERE NOW! hahahahahaa i have not been here in lets say ...3 years .....but was chillin with some friends that dont live in willy and one of them wanted to check it. WELL .....did he ever get a good idea of what this fuckstop was like. - bouncer was a tool and should have just told us " fuck you we dont want your biz $$$ " ........cause thats how he greets all the paying customers. - service sucked ass - about one hour into this bad idea my friend went out to smoke a cigarette which is a legal thing to do in America ....he was not allowed back in bar by shithead bouncer. Racist and Homophobic had 3 BAD incidents happening there at different times :whats the common ground between them?? 1) you get the wrong order and even though you are not even complaining about it you hear that this is probably because of your your "THICK foreign accent" 2) an Ecuadorian friend gets kicked out because a female bartender accuses him of attacking her a month earlier. After insisting to talk to her later, she says she was wrong, oh sorry he REALLY looked like him 3) my gay friends get violently, physically kicked out because they were playing tiny fake maracas by the outside patio door . Since moving to Brooklyn, this has been one of my go-to places on the weekends. The music is normally good and you can dance if you want, but there's also plenty of space to just talk with your friends without feeling overwhelmed by the crowd. The drinks are cheap and really strong, so the $20 minimum on cards will get you far (always a plus). My only complaint is that it reminds me of the bars I went to in college, and by that I mean it's pretty likely that you're going to run into a creepy guy just visiting for the weekend who really wants to get laid. But if you're good at avoiding those situations, it'll be a good time. read more

Went here after my delicious meal at Ipuddo and boy was that a mistake. Havnt been here in years so I thought I'd swing by for a nightcap. Well that nightcap turned into several drunken nyu kids trying to hit on me and when I ignored them I figured they'd get the hint. Nope. They continued to slur pickup lines at me like it was game. Gross. Speaking of gross the only decent thing this place has going for them is the huge outdoor area but again that was over run by a bunch of college kids looking to get laid. The owners of this are a bunch of money making crooks! They don't care who they disturb in their vicinity as long they as they can make money. They play loud music through out the night into the weird hours of the morning. Multiple complaints have been filed with them but they wouldn't care less. I have no vendetta against a bar as long as they sound proof their venue and respect their neighbor but they have no interest in doing so. Please do not patron the venue and send them a signal that they need to do their part and be responsible. Let them know if they want to make money be responsible! read more

So my friends and I went there last friday night. We consider ourselves to be open minded individuals. We certainly would not call ourselves hipsters by any stretch. We walked into this spot and all eyes turned. I think my jeans weren't tight enough for this place. We had a good time overall but everyone in that place looked the exact same. It's kind of an odd concept that hipsters consider themselves "independent" and "non-conforming" yet now, they all look the same. bar itself is ok but the crowd was a little lame. good spot if you are in the hood, but not worth making the trek from manhattan. read more

Living in the neighborhood should not mean sacrificing a good night's rest. The establishment needs to take responsibility and show more consideration for its neighbors.

I really hope they stick around, I'm really sad about all of the local bars and restaurants constantly closing in this neighborhood due to corporations buying out buildings. I don't think it was the fault of the bartender, just a bizarre situation. Regardless they were helpful! They are a great and fun dive, I will definitely be coming back and still recommend for a cheap drink and eats! I come here somewhat often for a cheap drink and popcorn.... for some reason they overcharged me and said i left a $100 tip! I wish i could do that but I am broke and would not do that after only drinking 1 drink.

All-in-all, Fine Time was a fun alternative bar, and I'm glad to at least have stopped in.

I think I would have loved this place 20 years ago when I could stand for hours and did not care about being crushed by lots of people.
