Breakfast in Hong Kong…read more.. On the way to the ferry, my friend and I stopped by this McCafe for a quick snack. We were on our way to dimsum and we just wanted fuel to get ourselves going... The interior is modern and bright. Customers leave their trays and trash on the tables for the staff to clean. The confusion is that the Cafe items are served from the Cafe side while the coffee, orange juice, and regular McDonald's items are served from the McDonald's counter even though we ordered from the Cafe counter. No worries. We figured it out! We shared the Corn & Cheesy Mushroom Toast. It was good enough to fill our tummies for now. On our second visit, we had the local dish, Macaroni soup. I had mine with ham and my friend had hers with sausage. It was plain, simple, and comforting. I want to return for the cute bunny dessert and the Mango drink which is served after 11am from the Cafe side. We'll be back - especially for the air conditioning! Onto more foodie adventures!!!

They line moves fairly quickly - you pay first, then wait in line to collect your food. The staff behind the counter work effectively and efficiently to ensure that your order arrives quickly and correctly. Because I had a slight cough and cold, I opted for the Breakfast Set A, the macaroni with ham and squid soup, scrambled egg and pumpkin bun, with HK style milk tea for HK$41. A good deal! And I was surprised with the scrambled eggs! They were soft and runny but firm. Just perfect. I think they beat the scrambled eggs at the Cathay Pacific Lounge, haha. You can't go wrong with Tsui Wah.

The old airport location is now full of skyscrapers where folks live in postage stamp apartments and pay insanely daft rents. One airport sign I saw said gates 2 to 534 - pardon - might take a few hours to get there from gate two. Anyway the reason I pinned BK was to show yelper's travelling through that it's there like many other American food joints (Popeyes, Starbucks, Mc D) and more expensive than UK prices; they serve Australian beef. I go to a BK about twice a year and much prefer it to Mc D.

I had a selection of meats: the roast pork (known as charsiu), soy sauce chicken (known as yaogai), and roast goose (konwn as siuarb). my favorite was the first two, both slightly fatty, very tender (but with a nice chew), and juicy from expert cooking - the goose was a little less successful, with the meat a little too dry and the skin shriveled. get it over rice, and be sure to get the accompanying condiment of spring onion and garlic mashed in chicken oil - utterly delicious.

As I took a step forward off the plane into a new world literally across the planet in Hong Kong as…read moreI had six hours to kill during a layover, anything was possible--especially the vast array of culinary options, all of which define generations upon generations of culture. What quintessentially Hong Kong food would I eat? Delicious Cantonese noodles with dumplings? Roast duck, or maybe some roast pork with the skin perfectly crisped? No. Not unique enough. Instead, I would choose the most obvious candidate at Hong Kong International Airport. Popeye's. Popeye's, located on Level 7 in the Departures area, is a worldwide icon, and I couldn't pass on the opportunity despite literally hundreds if not thousands of locations in my home country. At a pricepoint of about $9 USD, the wings, cole slaw, pepper fries, and Coca-Cola was a steal compared to the gourmet Japanese ramen and Cantonese delights which would easily empty your pocketbooks. OK, who am I kidding? It's Popeye's. I was super hungry, and the line was like 1/100th of McDonald's. Don't worry, I ate some good Cantonese food later. Accepts most credit cards/HKD; they can speak English so don't worry; the food was great quality and less greasy than that of the States. And also, if you read this and ate here, definitely let me know because we are now together in this exclusive club.

When the order was placed the manager said it would take 10 minutes. After waiting for some time when we tried to get the managers attention he just walked past us like we did not exist. When we finally got one of the managers to talk to us. We told her why is it taking so long, as we just ordered more food from the Vietnamese restaurant and that only took under 10 minutes. The manager told us to give her the receipt and she just said oh you have only just been waiting 20 minutes. I said it's still longer than what was told to us, I mean in the food service industry doesn't every minute count? No apologies in fact her reply was but you still choose our restaurant to get your food so you came back here. Now how do you respond to this? When I told the other manager what type of attitude this is, I mean we are the customer. He said what about our attitude, and came very close to me as though he wanted to assault me. My wife had called to ask if everything was ok and why we were taking so long. The rude behavior of the management at calimex made for a great story to tell my wife and family at home. It's safe to say I had a terrible experience. Regarding the earlier comment the manager made about me still choosing to come back, well it's safe to say I would never go back there even if the food was free.
